Been here twice now. Had all you can eat on 6/22/23 and loved it. Rice is always fresh and delicious which I'm real picky about. Their fish was great quality. SERIVCE IS AWUFUL! We were sat for 30 MINUTES and we never got a water or anything. Then finally we got someone's attention and we ordered food only to be put on a wait list that even the cook beside him was shocked on how backed up our cook was. Mind you, THERE WAS BERY LITTLE PEOPLE THERE. I'd love to review the food but we couldn't even get an appetizer on our table. The table was sticky, the bar was dirty. The staff is very nice, great service, but the food is below average. Their 14-17 dollar speciality rolls are small and overloaded with sauces to try and hide the low quality fish they are using. You are paying premium prices for all you can eat quality. We left hungry and unsatisfied. read more

Delicious sushi. Went during lunch and did all you can eat (must sit at the bar to get this service--short wait since there is limited seating). The sushi chefs were very pleasant and funny. Had our kids with us and they even made them a cute bear out of an orange. Prompt "refills" on the rolls. They're full sized so expect lots of food! Need to eat about 3 rolls to get your moneys worth, so good luck! I normally only get sashimi as I don't normally like how heavy rolls can be but I was super impressed with the quality and taste of the rolls. Service is pretty slow during lunch with a half empty restaurant and our waitress was repeating back our orders and got 2/3 of them wrong. I thought she was entering them right in front of us on her little machine. But I guess not? The tempura veggies are weird.. it was a mushroom, not a good tasting one. It had this weird white powder in the center. I thought it was cheese but it wasn't. The other veggies were dry green onions and I think one small zucchini stick. I haven't eaten out much lately because everything seems so expensive and I'm on a doctor supervised no carb diet so that makes eating less fun. Lol!! Today I went to Trapper's Sushi for lunch because 1) I've been wanting to try them out and 2) I wanted more salmon sashimi even though I had some yesterday. I got the house salad which doesn't look like much but it was delicious. It was the dressing that made it so good. I put some ginger in it too. Then I got the salmon sashimi appetizer which was not as good as yesterday's sashimi I got from Chef Ben's but it was good. Under the lettuce was some seaweed salad and squid salad. Which I didn't realize until later. Lol! Then I got the shrooman which was portabella mushroom with spicy, tuna and cream cheese lightly fried in tempura and topped with masago, warrior sauce, teriyaki and green onions. Soooooo yummy! Used to like coming here with my brother but recently the service and atmosphere has been horrible. Always understaffed, long wait times, by the time the sushi comes to you it's already warm and server rarely comes around anymore. Currently standing to be seated after being told the wait time was 20-25 min over 30 minutes ago. We were so excited to check out this modern twist on sushi. We walked in and the atmosphere was great. We sat down at the happy hour sushi bar and were greeted by a welcoming sushi chef. I am a regular here at Trapper's and I haven't found a better deal on an AYCE sushi bar in Phoenix. I love the food and the flavor profiles here, and everything tastes great and fresh. The key factor with Trapper's would be their consistency. Every time I come here, I always start with one of my favorite rolls, Volcano. Each time I get it, it always tastes like the first time I ever had it. The chefs do very well with matching the same flavors over and over to the point where if you develop a favorite item there, you will always get it as it tastes the same every single time you get it. Whether that be 3 times in one visit, or 1 time every visit for months. The service when it comes to apps and drinks (as this is handled by others and not the sushi chefs) is a bit slow at times, but the sushi chefs do an excellent job of entertaining while you get to watch them make your food and carry conversation with them. The chefs are always friendly, well mannered and playful, and they always get along with each other, and provide a great space to eat. It's hard to find a place with good food, good service, and good personalities, as they are always eager to make you your next roll or sushi item like nigiri. The ambiance is nice, calm, and collected. The bar is a bit small so if it's busy you are elbow to elbow, but people do respect your space as well. There are tv's playing sports games throughout the place, but between having conversation with your peers and your chefs, it's merely just background/white noise at that point. I'm giving a 5 star and it might sound a little biased to others searching through reviews, but I always feel welcomed when I'm here. I never feel rushed on eating to hurry up and end my turn for others waiting, and I always get to have a good time with all of the workers there. There isn't any stingy behaviors or attitudes there. These situations provided we with a bit of a safety net to where I constantly want to come back versus continously searching for other sushi places. read more

Ok, this is my second posting regarding Trapper's....so basically it's a follow up. This place is awesome. I have become a regular and visit at least 3 times a month. Their flavor palette makes them stand out above the competition by a large margin. Today I actually met one of the owners, and it's fairly obvious that their goal is not just great food. I got to see part of a training session with a new server...not only are they working closely with them but you could tell their goal is for the servers to make the visit as good as the food. I have one thing to tell you........ If you haven't tried this place it's your own fault. If your a fan of sushi you need to get your ass in their and try it. Came to Arizona for the long holiday weekend and wanted to find AYCE sushi close to where we were staying. Thanks to TikTok we came across Trapper's and knew we had to go. When we got there we were asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or at a table. We chose a table but weren't aware you can't do AYCE at a table until we were already seated and ready to order. I've never been to a sushi restaurant with AYCE that's limited to the bar so I was a little disappointed. Luckily, the Buddhalicious and especially the Skywalker made up for it. This was my first time at trappers and it wasn't a great first visit. Nothing online that I saw stated I needed to be sat at the sushi bar to have the all-you-can-eat option. I had my 1 year old with me and she was sleeping and I was carrying her. The manager did not want to honor the all-you-can-eat option unless I was sitting at the bar and of course the wait is like 30 mins plus and the seating it so close together that i felt like i wouldn't have had enough room eating while holding my one year old while she slept. So I just accepted it and ate off the "regular menu" since I was sitting at a booth. Not to mention that when I had walked in I wasn't even asked or told if I was eating all-you-can-eat the host literally said "let's do a booth for the baby" so I was like great thanks! Then ontop of that it took them about 30 mins to greet us after being sat. No water or drink refills either. I tip great wherever I go no matter the service because I understand how tough times are. The girl was nice but the manager and the wait to be greeted ruined my overall experience. I ordered a yellowtail nigiri too and you can tell they don't change their gloves or clean their hands because I had tobiko on the bottom of my nigiri rice. not a huge deal but it's something to pay attention to. read more

I was excited to find out there was a sushi place nearby! I would say this place still has some room to improve though. The sushi rolls were lose and the rice they used were a bit dry. i could see they are still learning but i appreciate the effort definitely. It was just frustrating to see it falls apart when you pick it up with chopsticks. The sashimi slices were not well cut i could see their sizes vary. Some were larger or thicker than others. All these I strongly believe will improve overtime with proper training. The prices (i didnt try the all you can eat) are reasonable. So food was for sure amazing and honestly worthy of 5. It was some of the best sushi we have had in a long while. I would venture to say some of the tastiest this side of the ocean. However, service was so slow. My food finally came out after everyone else was completely done. It was staggered. Then the Miso came out last. So it was very odd.I know they were busy so I don't take it personally, but we got just one drink. The mochi flight was more of a duo. Just two flavors when the picture shows four different types. That was a major let down because we would have just ordered the one flavor. Hopefully as they get more staff, the service will be faster. read more
