I frequent this place for their Sunday Brunch. I always have the French toast, which is probably some of the best I've ever had in this city, and sometimes mix it up with the Chicken Parmesan. Service here is probably one of the best I've seen, every single member of the staff is always attentive, and makes sure that all of my needs are fulfilled. Italian food again this week! Yes, it's been a fun expedition, but the experiences are not improving. :-b Amici is located inside "Americana", which is your typical newly developed outdoor mall.. wanna be attraction of the century (as far as Glendale goes).. with apartments sitting above all the noisy retail. The only thing I really enjoy about Americana is the third level patio outside of the Barnes and Noble.. where you can sip on your cup of coffee or iced tea, browse through books, and watch the "fountain show" a la mini-Bellagio. And work on your tan. Ok, back to Amici. It's located quite close to the water show, and the patio seems like it would be the best place to sit for a view of the herds. We opted for inside, because the humidity this past weekend was just wrong on every Los Angeles area level, possible. The interior is nice, but a bit compacted and not as inviting/cozy. Everything is crisp and white. We started off with the Polpettine e Piselli (beef meatballs in a tomato-y sauce).. which was definitely tasty, minus the teeny tiny "beef" smell. You know that smell? But $10 for I think it was 5 meatballs is a bit steep. We also ordered the Amici salad, which was good, but J's right, the pieces of cheese and deli meat were chopped too small to be easily fork-able. The dressing was refreshing.. lemony and vibrant. Oh, wine. I ordered a glass of the Riesling (I forget the label, the only Riesling available by the glass), and it was fabulous! Chilled to perfection and such a light, sing-songy, fruity yumminess. Highly recommend! For the entree, I love it when they have "homemade" or "fresh" pasta on the menu - an excuse to pretend I have an Italian grandma for an hour. I was going for either the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese or the lasagna, as both claimed "homemade" pasta. I asked the waiter which one he'd recommend more, and he suggested the Tagliatelle. Ok, that it is! And by the way, the waiter was very kind and cordial. J ordered the Milanese Chicken.. in a fancy name. I was super excited to try the "homemade" tagliatelle pasta... but aw shucks.. it was sadly undercooked/crunchy to the bite.. not very homemade-ish. I should not have assumed that it would be fresh.. because fresh pasta is not dried and wouldn't be crunchy at all. This may have been homemade, but then dried? I don't know, but I was a bit bummed, I'll have to say. The meat sauce was not wow, but not bad either. It was slightly bland, but then again, my mom makes the best meat sauce on the planet. Even though yes, we are not Italian. ;-b J's chicken was very good. Two humongo pieces of chicken breast, lightly breaded, lightly crispy, and served with a tomato dipping sauce and arugula. I hated this place when I originally ate there a year ago. I mean the service was horrible. I decided to try them yesterday, and to say the least it was actually nice. Food was very delicious, as we ordered special dishes not on the menu, they actually had no problem with it and it was amazing. The seating inside: the tables are so close together that not only you can hear the person next to you clearly, but if you run out of bread you may just reach out gently and grab one from their table (if you are not embarrassed of course, or if they are cool people lol) THEY ARE TOO CLOSE!!! I've always passed by this restaurant whenever I go to the Americana. Never really thought much to eat here until the wife suggested that we try it with some friends after spending the day at Universal Studios. Food was okay, didn't really seem to be anything unique. I ordered the chicken parmesan. It was a really big piece of chicken that was tender, but the flavor tended to be lacking a bit. it seemed like the breading was very basic as was the tomato sauce. In any case, I like both places and pleased with the direction that Caruso is taking with the shopping experience. Now on the actual restaurant, The atmosphere and wine list is nice (though overpriced). At the end of the day , we did not like our meal. I had the veal with ham and cheese with mashed potatoes. The veal tasted like bland and a bit old, the ham was salty and the overall proportion was small. This was also the case with my fiend's meal. I think she only got 5 pieces of ravioli. Now i've been to places where you get 5 pieces, but the ravioli was to die for. I don't want the Cheesecake factory bucket of food, but a filling meal is requested. they could have easily given steamed vegetables with the meal. One of the most meh Italian restaurants I've even been.. Simply not special whatsoever.. Over priced for very boring food imho. I've been here twice with friends and definitely will not be going again when there are so many other better choices around the area for much better price. I've tried two kinds of pastas, the Gnocchi as well as a the chicken dish... Pastas - Sauces were extremely bland, pastas were made inconsistently the two times I went, and it felt like there were hardly any ingredients other than its marinara sauce.. For the price they charge I expect a lot more quality and ingredients on the plate.. Really really disappointing and felt I could do a better job at home and I'm no cook... Gnocchi - The most disappointing dish I've tried here. Gnocchi was complete mush.. I've actually only had one good Gnocchi in my life, and this was hands down the worst. Don't get this dish here at all costs.. It's marinara sauce with mushy dough.. Chicken parmasian - Was definitely the best dish I've tried here but still it was lackluster. My first time here at the Americana with my sister who is a local. First stop, lunch! Nice Italian place, A choice of outside or indoor seating. Friendly staff and the most important review: the food!!! Flavorful and good quality.. I had one of their summer specials - lightly breaded seared tuna - and it was yummy! Came today with some friends, and we got a table outside - after first being told it was a 30 minute wait. Got to the table, waited for a long time: and no servers came to attend the table. It's been like this every time I've been there. Probably won't be going back. It's average food at a very high price. The pasta is nothing better than you would find at Trader Joe's, but it's $20 and up... Pizzas are approximately 20 bucks- and definitely not worth it. Eatalian Café in Gardena serves you a 10 times better pizza, that's authentic Italian- for almost half the price. (It's worth the drive , trust me ). Went to the Americana for dinner and wanted to eat at the Cheese Cake Factory. However, it was an hour and half wait today Friday, I should have known. My fiancé and I walked around and decided to try Amici out. We've walked by several times and today their wait wasn't so long compared to other restaurants. We waited about 15-20 minutes. The hostess wasn't very friendly, had the "I don't want to be here attitude". We paid no mind to it and waited until we were called/text message. We decide to eat outside, which we regret moments later because the table was wobbly. The waiter was nice and attentive for the most part. She ordered a chicken Cesar salad and I got the lasagna. The food was mediocre/okay. I expected to have better quality food since this is the Americana, at least Cheese Cake Factory standards. The salad had a bitter taste that came from the dressing, a local cafe makes a better tasting dressing. The chicken was chewy, seemed that it was frozen grilled chicken heated in a pan. The lasagna was also okay, nothing special. It came in the pan to keep it warm which was the best part because the taste was just as good has a frozen lasagna from Vons. In a nutshell, this place is OKAY. We don't plan or think of going back. read more

I'm updating an old 1 star review after revisiting the restaurant. My second experience was much better than my first. We had a short wait time for a table but the Americana is an easy space to waste time while you wait. The food came out pretty quickly and was absolutely delicious. Our waitress was extremely friendly and my glass of water was filled before I had a chance to ask (during my last visit I had to ask every time). I'm very happy I went back, I would recommend this spot for a nice dinner out. It's a little on the pricey side so I'll be saving it for nicer occasions. read more

Of the three members of my party, I am the only one who survived to write this review. Let my words be a warning to those who might follow... OK, that may be a bit dramatic. Keep in mind this is a new restaurant. In fact, the waitstaff reminded us of that fact no less than 3 times. I believe them. How else to explain wine that was fashionably late arriving to the main course and yet miraculously appeared twice on our bill? Or the appetizers we ordered off the wine list (while pointing at the items we desired on the wine list) that were twice as expensive at the end of the meal when we were told the wine list prices were only available at the bar? I'm sure it's just new restaurant growing pains and not a deliberate attempt to mislead customers. The food itself left much to be desired. Between the bland cheese pizza with basil leaves strewn about, er, I mean "margherita pizza," and a dry turkey lasagna that should never be served to people who have the capacity to taste, I can't in good conscience recommend anything except the calimari I had as an appetizer. If not for spontaneously increasing in price, it was tasty enough to trick me into expecting a passable main course. But we all make mistakes. read more

We had the worst restaurant experience! I specifically asked the server if the pasta had meat in it because we are vegetarian and he said no several times. Then while my friend was eating the dish, she said there is meat inside. I called another server and he said there's PORK SAUSAGE IN THE PASTA. I actually liked this place. The Americana which was developed by the architects of the Bellagio in Las Vegas really made this mall a nice and sophisticated place! We sat out on the patio on a beautiful sunny day and I tell you the Ladies were out that day! I think I spent more time checking out girls than I did focusing on my food. The service was pretty slow but me and the boys didn't really care since we were checking out every girl that walked by! I tried their Tagliatelle Bolognese and my friends got the Lasagna and we all enjoyed out meals! The Americana is one of my favorite places to shop in LA, and Trattoria Amici is my favorite place to dine when I'm at my favorite mall, not because of the food but for the atmosphere. I always come at odd hours - after 2 pm - to take a late lunch after shopping, and the restaurant is empty, which I love since it's more quiet and the service is much better. For brunch, I've had the Omeletta Salmone Affunmicato - smoked salmon omelette. It has bits of smoked salmon and mascarpone cheese inside and paired with a side of mixed greens and tomatoes. Really nothing too spectacular. It's quite large though, I was only able to finish half. For lunch, I've had the Linguini Alle Vongole Veraci - linguini with clams in white wine sauce. Again, regular clam linguini with flavors that are simple and standard. I wasn't blown away by this one either. I'm not impressed by the food, it's your typical upscale Italian fare. But I do enjoy the location and the environment, it's up to the "classy" standard of the Americana. But if you want to get amazing Italian food, don't go to the mall for it. read more

I had the chance to go back to amici a few days ago. I found it the same great place I remember. I noticed a better wine list than the previous time and I saw they've got the two glasses of wine spectator again. It's no easy to get it the first time as it is more difficult to keep it year by year. I really appreciated the list cause is balanced and full of Californian local wine, it a sign to support local economy which I believe is right. Of course they have the best Italian wine which I think is the best wine in the word, I apologize to my French friends but that's the way it is. Italians do it better: all. food,wine,cheese. Went to the Americana at Brand in Glendale and found this restaurant right by the corner. The decor looks define and first thought I had came across was the price. Mostly we see that fine dinning restaurant list their menu out without the price. For a side note: the reason that most of the restaurant do not list out their price on the menu usually have the average dish around $40 a la carte, it is because for that type of restaurant we don't usually go for price consideration but for the occasion. Back to my visit. The restaurant was very clean and welcoming. My first visit we had an Italian waiter who was so passionate about the food, made some great choices of suggestion to us. I ordered a Salmon pasta dish and it was delicious. The fish melt in the mouth with the garnish on the pink sauce. They also had the pizza that is wrap around and even offer for one person. Usually we want to have pizza but the size was not good for just 1 person. The price range was fair and eventually we left this restaurant with a satisfy heart. I've been to Amici several times and so far, always had a nice experience each time. The restaurant is located in the Americana mall so their huge patio is great for people-watching and enjoying the nice weather. Take your time because they normally don't rush you. As far as the food, we recommend the meatballs and seafood (calamari) for appetizer. I don't know what they put in the meatballs but they are so ridicuously moist and flavorful. My husband liked it so much, he asked for it for dinner. For dinner, I had the New York grilled steak which was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well and huge! I did manage to eat it all though but couldn't finish the sides. Other recommendations are the New Zealand rack of lamb (didn't have that gamey taste to it), seafood spaghetti, and to end the meal with something light and sweet, the tiramisu. I agree that the staff (especially the hostesses) could work on their customer service skills and be more welcoming (although our waiter was very nice) but we would definitely come back again. read more

My family and I decided to have dinner here on a Friday night because it seemed like the best option before our movie. Two very pushy foreign ladies ( and their 2 young boys) pushed us to the side and demanded a table. The hostess still made sure we were seated first... she was very nice, and Asian(to defend the rude comment). No reservations but we were seated right away. A very tall guy with an accent and lots of hair was our waiter (think he was also the manager)- don't remember his name but he was the worst waiter I have ever had in my life! Until reading the reviews, I took it personal. -He did not check to see if we needed anything. We had to raise our hand like we were in elementary just to get him to notice us. -He did not refill our glasses -He did not ask if we would like dessert. -Nor did he bring our check. All of these things we had to ask for raising our hand each time. I really wanted dessert but was too offended to stay any longer. The food was good, and compared to Bucca di Beppo, heaven.
