Location 4 stars: On the 3rd Street East of Robertson, in the Beverly Grove area of Los Angeles. We opted for the convenience of Valet Parking (for a fee). There is some street parking, but it is a busy area so I would assume it would not be very straightforward. Venue 4 stars: Cute restaurant with a full bar, indoor seating and a rustic patio area. Service 3.75 stars: Server-dependent... We had servers switched on us mid-steam. The first one was super friendly and attentive and helpful, but the one who took over was just OK. The manager was wonderful and circled around making sure that everything was going well. Drinks 4 stars: AOC is mainly a wine bar. They have as huge list of wines but also some tasty specialty cocktails and a full bar. We had the Kingbird, the Mezcal Royale, Flor De Jamaica and a Grey Goose Martini. All were well-made and delicious. Prices were OK but a little on the higher side. Food 3.75 stars: AOC is known for its farm-to-table small plates, and we did try some of their famous ones, but were not as satisfied as we had anticipated. First off, the portions, especially for the prices, are tiny... We had the Bacon Wrapped Dates (good but super small portion), Haricot Verts salad (just ok), the Shrimp (good), the Clams (good), the Grilled Seabass (good), the fries (great) and their famous Spanish Fried Chicken (too greasy for our taste). They do have a nice menu of desserts, but we did not try any this time around. Billing 2 stars: They add 7% to every check to provide health insurance for the employees. While I fully appreciate and applaud the cause and also the fact that they disclosed this at the bottom of the menu (which not everyone looks at) and also noted that the customer could ask for it to be removed (but c'mon, in reality, WHO in their right mind would feel right asking???), why not simply add this to their prices?

My sister-in-law's Dry-Aged Wagyu was rich, beautifully prepared, and packed with flavor. However, the true standout was my mother's Whole Daurade. Pulling up to the restaurant our eyes were drawn to the giant neon red snake on the front of the building adorned against dark green concrete blocks mixed with frosted glass cubes. At that point we knew we were in for a treat unlike any other customary dining experience in the 90210. Upon entering, we felt as if we were teleported to a speakeasy in the lower east side of manhattan. Such elegant, yet wild decor of giant stone pigs and plant like chandeliers cascading over the dining room. The energy throughout the whole place was indescribable, something LA has needed for quite sometime. We met up with friends and were around 20 people for our reservation. Our table wasn't ready yet so a few of us grabbed a drink at the bar in the standing area. Bartender was very sweet and made a fantastic pepperoni martini which I've never heard of before tonight. We waited about a half hour until they seated us but the hostesses were very efficient in updating us every few minutes with the status of our table. We were shown to a crowded room in the back of the restaurant which was a little tight but fun and comfy. We had to stand up a few times to let other customers by, but wasn't a big deal, we were just grateful to have a table. To be honest, a couple of us felt a little embarrassed and ashamed that we were coming in to a restaurant so late on a Saturday night with such a giant group of people at closing time, but all of that guilt melted away when our server approached our table. Our server Robert greeted us with such a positive upbeat energy, he made us feel so warm and welcome. A few of the people at our table we didn't know were a little annoyed they had to wait so long to be seated and were being a bit demanding and rude to him when ordering drinks, but Robert smiled through it all and within a few moments had them cracking up with laughter and smiling throughout the rest of the meal. Kudos to you Robert for being a true professional. Once the drinks came, it was off to the races. Robert's suggestions were spot on DELICIOUS! The yellowtail sashimi was amazing, and the pepperoni cups were not only fun but very tasty. Caesar salad was good but could've been spicier in my opinion. A few of us couldn't decide between filet or the wagyu New York strip, so Robert suggested the porterhouse which he said was the best of both worlds, in which it truly was. We were gnawing at the bone, it was so perfectly cooked and seasoned. All in all, the drinks were great, the food was fantastic, and the service was extraordinary! I can't wait to bring my coworkers next time, they are going to love it. And we would be thrilled to have Robert as our server again. Being a former waitress and bartender in NYC, you really appreciate exceptional service when you see it and ESPECIALLY when you experience it.
