I am a proud iconoclast. Over my lifetime I have sought to do things my way, often differently from the "crowd", and while at times that has presented some obstacles, I have learned to overcome them, take a long view and keep a sense of humor. I don't need to please everyone, and neither does any culinary establishment, especially in New York city and Los Angeles. We are free to be ourselves and to do what makes us happy. What Bad Roman does makes me exceptionally happy. The first thing I appreciate about this place is the obvious imagination the owners show in every aspect of its creation. The structure, inside and out, decor, appointments, art pieces, and most importantly, the menus show a clever understanding both of Italian excellence and American ingenuity and rebelliousness. Every dish is a twist on the ancient rules that a very old culinary culture had to observe. Up until now. And there is another thing. As someone who does not eat animals, it is always a challenge for me to assemble a meal in the heart of the carnivorous marketplace. I am surprised at how many people are still doing it, since to me we should be beyond this practice by now. But, Bad Roman clearly wants to make every single diner feel welcome, understood, "gotten", and delighted. They really do get me, which isn't easy to do. And, looking around, they get everyone else. Genius. Just glance through the pictures I am sharing, along with all those that other diners have posted. Study the menus, consider the location on Canon in the main hub of an iconic enclave replete with restaurants. How did we find Bad Roman amid all this glory and how has Bad Roman managed to stand out in a stellar way when we did? The name, first of all, tongue-in-cheek. An attractive and clever exterior that pops as you approach it. The quality of every single cell-i-ment once inside. Gorgeous light fixtures, dappled mirrors, giant sculptures, gleaming tables, silverware, napkins and glassware. Hand thrown ceramic dishware straight from the old country, and the most delicious drinks, main dishes, and desserts you are going to find anywhere in both cities. I can say that with confidence because I have eaten at most of the vaunted Italian restaurants in NYC and L.A. Not one element could have been better at Bad Roman, with particular emphasis on beauty and quality. And there were many things that were startling in a positive way, such as drizzling a delicate stream of olive oil over the homemade gelato that accompanied a dense and rich chocolate tarte. Or serving a savory Babka, light as a cloud and accented by fresh parmesan threads. Our server, Cameron, is a real pro. He moved around smoothly, giving us an array of choices, answering questions deftly, and seeming to be thrilled to do all of that, the whole time. I am going to seek him out next time. Need I say as well, the entire space sparkled and glowed, spotlessly immaculate -- that is so important to me. The bill was shockingly reasonable and we were able to park several steps away in a spacious clean public garage for a few dollars. This lunch did not break the bank! I have tried hard to think of any recommendation that would make this sterling experience any better and the only one would be to add a bit of sound attenuation discreetly on the ceiling. But, given the brilliant concepts I saw all around me at Bad Roman, there may be some auditory slight-of-hand plan too. It certainly made for a lively and festive atmosphere. Every table seemed to host a party, whether of two people or twelve. Bad Roman is not to be missed. Hurry and reserve a spot before they sell out for the holidays. Bad Roman was amazing and definitely a 4 star food experience, although the service was a little off this time. The restaurant itself is such a vibe. The decor, lighting and energy make it a great spot for a fun night out. We started with the garlic bread, calamari and Caesar salad, and everything was delicious. The garlic bread was warm, cheesy and addictive, the calamari was crispy and flavorful, and the Caesar was surprisingly one of my favorites. For dinner, the filet with ravioli was the standout. The filet was cooked perfectly and pairing it with the ravioli was rich and delicious. We also had the truffle pasta, which was creamy, flavorful and topped with plenty of fresh truffle. The cocktails were also really good. The only miss this visit was the service. Our server didn't really check in on us throughout dinner, I wasn't given a steak knife with my filet, and overall he just wasn't very engaging. For a restaurant at this price point, I definitely expect the service to be a little more attentive and personable. Thankfully, the food absolutely delivered and that's what saved the experience for me. Amazing food and atmosphere just wish the service had matched everything else. Had an incredible dinner at Bad Roman Beverly Hills with my wife and one of her best friends. The food, atmosphere, and overall experience were all excellent. We ordered the Whipped Ricotta with Truffle Honey, Yellowtail Crudo, Spicy Gem Caesar, Chicken Scarpariello Rigatoni, Spicy Brussels Sprouts, and the Snake River Wagyu Strip. Everything we ordered was delicious, but the Wagyu and Whipped Ricotta were definitely standouts. Great energy, beautiful atmosphere, and a really fun place for a night out in Beverly Hills. Everything was 10/10. Popped in for lunch. Ambiance and vibes are giving New York. Started with two of the Spritzy spritzes, and the roasted garlic babka, which was like a savory croissant that melts in your mouth. The Caesar salad was probably the best salad I've had in my life, with a nice kick from the Worcestershire sauce. I could bathe in the sauce from the filet agnolotti, served tableside with a balsamic drizzle. Last but not least, the lemon cheesecake topped off an already great meal and service. Just like the room, the food is also so very rich and colorful. The pastas are fantastic. Love the Paccheri Amatriciana, spicy carbonara with juicy guanciale.... The spicy calabrian chili lobster also had a sinus clearing kick with campanelle and an entire lobster that's flambé right at table side. Delicious and comes with a show lol. The arugula & pear salad was also very light and refreshing. The Bad Roman Wedge with so-so. Essentially a lettuce wedge with salami/cherry tomatoes/olives. Would skip the latter. A classic upscale spot in the heart of BH. The vibes inside are really dope with cool architecture and dim lights. However, it's very loud and quite crammed inside. I was disappointed w/ food. I expected expensive but I also expected taste and flavor. I tried their chicken which was flavorful but completely dry. Service was also slow- took forever to find our waiter to place an order and get refills on water. Small things like that at a place like this should be automatic. $70 for chicken (w/ no sides) + tip is just not worth it. Made it into Bad Roman for dinner with friends on a Thursday night and had a satisfying meal amid a throng of happy, lively, and loud people. Yes, this is a very loud place to be sure, with high, vaulted ceilings and steel beams allowing every sound to reverberate to its greatest potential. There's a theory that the subway tunnels under Carnegie Hall contribute an arbitrary X factor of some kind to the theater's legendary, irreplicable acoustics -- well, instead of being in the concert hall above, Bad Roman is like being in the tunnels below while a train is screaming by. Look, I get it: loud and lively amps up the experience to a party level, and people like returning to a party time and again, which is good for business. That said, a little more thought could have been put into the acoustics of a venue that is otherwise pretty perfectly designed. Visually it's a stunner, with mirrors and chandeliers off-set by other sculpted lighting fixtures, colorful banquettes and attractive details throughout the restaurant, right down to the servers' uniforms. Speaking of the servers, they were all friendly and helpful, working quickly to tend to the very crowded room, where there always seemed to be people waiting for a table to open up. The food is a bit of a conundrum. Literally everything on the menu sounds terrific, which makes the decision-making tough; we easily could have ordered almost everything just to taste it. The reality of the food is a bit more down to Earth. Presentation is uniformly excellent, pretty and interesting-looking -- but if none of these big swings is a true miss, you do have some singles mixed with the home runs. I loved my Martini Pepperoncini, which replaces olive juice with the juice from those pickled peppers, giving the drink an original and most welcome brightness and bite. Tuna Tartare was cold and fresh, lightly dressed and very tasty -- so much so that I didn't feel a need to put it on the accompanying crostini, as a spoonful was terrific on its own. The Caesar Salad was good, but no more special than any other Caesar in any other good restaurant, and definitely not as creatively flavored as the Japanese Caesar at Matu. The Roasted Garlic Babka, which is as much of a "must order" idea as a hot dog at Nathan's, looked great but barely made it to first. The garlic flavor was quite muted and generally overpowered by the sweetness in the bread's dough, giving it very little punch; it just didn't live up to the expectations created by its name. Main courses were also a mix of wows and okays. The Filet Mignon with a Cacio E Pepe Raviolo was the star of our selections. The prime steak was expertly cooked: charred on the outside and very properly seasoned; tender and flavorful inside, at a perfect medium rare. On its own, this would have been a wonderful steak -- but, add on the decadent raviolo (filled with a Cacio E Pepe cream that coats the steak in richness) and you've got a truly memorable bite that made everyone go "hey now!" Our other protein, Lemon Chicken, was also expertly rendered, the meat being about as juicy and tender as any half chicken I've had anywhere, with a light yet very tasty lemon jus. However, in the end, this lovely chicken was a little too plain to compete with everything else that was going on, and it seemed a bit out of place. We ordered two pastas with our proteins, with mixed results. The Paccheri Amatriciana was a winner to me, featuring a light, slightly acidic tomato sauce, very finely diced and cooked guanciale, and a punchy Pecorino. The flavors blended well, the texture of the pasta and guanciale made for a nice bite, and the portion was probably the most substantial of the evening. Les successful was the Penne Luongo with Black Truffle Cacio e Pepe. The pasta itself, long, thick and wide, was interesting, and I appreciated its hearty chew. The sauce was the same as what was inside the Raviolo -- but, while a bit of the sauce was a nice accompaniment to a bite of steak, I found it too think and overwhelming as the main attraction on a plate of pasta, even overpowering the fresh black truffle shaved on at the end. My wife really enjoyed it, but I wouldn't order it again. We shared one dessert, which was the Tiramisu Ice Cream, and was the other absolute home run of the evening. A large slice of ice cream cake that looks and tastes like tiramisu, this has to have Tom Carvel sitting up in his grave and saying, "why didn't I think of that?" It's light and cold and a proper palette cleanser after an evening of rich flavors. So yes, go. Be prepared for the scene, and order what sounds good. If you're with friends as we were, you'll have a blast. Just know that when you get to the plate, you're not guaranteed a hit. read more

Maximalist, dramatic, moody, and definitely a scene. We came on a weeknight and it was still PACKED. It's pretty loud and dark inside, which I personally don't mind, but something to know if that's not your vibe. Service was great overall. Friendly servers and pretty quick considering how busy it was. What we ordered: Pepperoncini Martini -- 9/10 Briny with a little spice. Delicious and probably one of my favorite things of the night. Dressed Kumamoto Oysters -- 7/10 Yummy with the shallots. The oysters weren't super creamy, but that is more of a personal preference thing. Roasted Garlic Babka -- 8.5/10 Flaky, warm, garlicky, parmesan-y goodness. Whipped Ricotta & Truffle Honey Butter -- 8/10 So good with the crusty bread. I just wish the bread had been warmer! Roni Cups -- 5/10 Way too salty for me, but I liked how crispy they were. Definitely better with the basil. Crispy Calamari Casino -- 8/10 Perfectly light and crispy without being overly oily. TLDR: Food's genuinely good, some kinks needs to be ironed out. We called to make a last minute Saturday resy for opening time. Luckily they had a spot so we went in. They're also on OpenTable. Street Parking or lot parking is paid. Easy access. They have a fairly decent sized menu with lots of veg and pescatarian options. We got the shrimp chitarra minus shrimp/veg, crab luigi, eggplant pull a parm, sauted spinach, and lemon cheesecake. They also gave us a sorbet on the side for celebration. All of it tasted amazing, especially the marinara that's served with the parm and the sorbet. Drinks were alright, the dessert cocktail with pine nuts needs to be skipped if you dislike pine nuts as much as I do (but did not know pinolo stands for that). They were out of/low on the cars for the shots. The restrooms were out of toilet paper. So there are some funcitonal things they need to work through. The ambience gives zealous modern Italian opulence in the pun-iest way and is extremely cute. Fun fancy date night spot all in all. read more

New(er) Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills that I had come across and added to the list of places I must try. Made a reservation and headed over. First, ambiance, very welcoming and frenetic, in a good way. Plenty of staff everywhere and everyone is willing to help you out and attend to your needs. We were seated right away and started off with cocktails. The Mai Tai was decent, really didn't stand out to be honest. In terms of food, we began with the Roasted Garlic Babka and the Dressed Kumamoto Oysters. The babka was like a croissant type bread, very soft and flaky, really flavorful but in the shape of a loaf. Hard to really describe and it was worth it! The oysters had a cherry pepper mignonette on top which gave them a pop of added flavor which was a nice touch. And the filet mignon meatballs were delicious. The grated grana padano had a crispiness to it, adding a little texture from, I'm guessing, being broiled quickly, with fresh cheese grated on the top for presentation. Just a great bite. I'd say in my top five meatballs in Los Angeles. For entrees we ordered the Spicy Lobster and the Agnolotti Bistecca. The Bistecca was ok, really tasted under seasoned to us, but it's stuffed with filet mignon and has a sweet balsamic glaze. The spicy lobster is served with campanelle pasta and calabrian chili, and is prepared for you, with a show, table side. This was actually very good, great flavor throughout, and comes with a whole lobster tail and the meat from two claws. Great entree. Finally, for dessert, I had seen these lemon type dishes coming out, and assumed it was the lemon cheesecake, so ordered that. So creative, so delicious and so much fun. It's a lemon cheesecake, molded in to the shape of a lemon with an outer layer shell, sitting on a bed of crushed graham crackers. You crack/cut in to the "lemon" while getting some of the graham cracker crust to assemble your bite. Just perfection. Chef's kiss! Overall, new Italian addition to Beverly Hills and Los Angeles as a whole, and a quality addition at that. Drinks were ok, not necessarily the place I would go for a congrats but not bad either. Get the babka and meatballs for sure, as well as the spicy lobster. The oysters if you're really wanting oysters but you can skip the agnolotti. And absolutely try the lemon cheesecake! read more

The scene is very Beverly Hills and you can tell it's the shiny new thing in the city. The spicy lobster pasta was good and the ravioli outstanding. The bill ended up being $150 per person. Our bartender (I wish I remembered his name) was incredibly kind, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for. They showed us to our beautiful table, and we were so excited to try the food. I purposely chose an off-hour to avoid the crowd, but the place was still pretty full--which immediately gave me high expectations. And thankfully, BAD ROMAN did not disappoint! What we ordered: Roasted Garlic Babka -- A MUST order!! Order TWO!! Seriously, this was that good. Roni Cups & Ranch -- Deliciously and perfectly salty and creamy. I stuck the roni cups between pieces of the babka and dunked them in the ranch. Twice. So yummy! Spicy Gem Caesar -- The perfect portion of fresh veggies to balance out the meal. Filet Mignon Meatballs -- Ooey, gooey, and packed with flavor. So satisfying! Chicken Scarpariello Rigatoni -- Definitely get it baked and burnt-style. That crispy, slightly charred finish makes it even better! BAD ROMAN is one of those restaurants you immediately know you'll want to return to--not just for the food, but for the whole experience. Our first time at Bad Roman was a winner. We sat at the bar and first ordered a martini. It was served in beautiful glassware and was the biggest martini I've ever seen. Beware if you have more than one! For dinner we ordered the Faroe Island salmon which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The pasta mafaldine is tasty but rather plain. The side of sautéed baby spinach was delicious. The bartender provided outstanding service, and was fun to chat with. The atmosphere is swanky with beautiful chandeliers and nice lighting. Loved loved loved Bad Roman. There are so many good things to say, it could be called Good Roman. I didn't know it's only been open less than two months and there are certainly things that will get better but I loved what they have going on so far. Which is a lively atmosphere. Good cocktails (eventually they will be great) and fantastic food. My server was Robert and props to him. We had a great experience and would be treated to be served by him anytime. He had great recommendations and his honesty with his thoughts was spot on. It was a Thursday night and it was packed. We weee sat in the back part of the place so conversation was easier at our table. However if you want the scene and the vibe make sure you're seated in the front room. Next time I will be for sure. We started with table garlic bread that was a good start and definitely didn't want to fill up on it. I tried a nice spicy tequila cocktail. It was made with a habenero shaved ice. It was good but not anything I'd repeat all night. So I opted for a Lalo old fashioned that I drank the rest of the night. The bartender was consistent which is key because they were delicious. We got the spicy Cesar salad, hamachi crudo to start and those dishes were both excellent. We shared everything. Family style. There was four of us and we order three pastas, two mains and three desserts. No one left hungry. And there weren't really leftovers. The Cacio E Pepe with shaved truffle was the best thing I ate for the pastas. We had a filet stuff pasta and the tomato base Arabist's pasta also. But the cacio was so good we ordered a second with our mains. For the mains we had the Wagyu New York and the Branzino. I'm not a big New York fan so it was fine. But the branzino was perfection. We also got spinach and fries on the side. For dessert we had the panna cotta, the chocolate cake and what I loved the deconstructed lemon cheesecake. Caligula, Nero, Claudius, Incitatus were all bad Romans except for Incitatus because he was a horse and Mario who was an excellent Server at Bad Roman. Creep through the traffic in Beverly Hills, until you get to the tile wall with a Neon Snake and Bad Roman displayed. It's really should be Good Roman (no, make that Great Roman). Enter, look around. It's everything Las Vegas wishes it was. Ritzy and glitzy from the open ceiling to the closed reservation book because they're often fully committed on Open Table. The dining room is flashy and panache-y but inviting and comfortable. The pumpin' thumpin' loop is absorbed by your second Double Pour Martini. At 5:00 Pm it's time to take Mom and Pop out for a treat. By 8:00 PM the battle at Monte Cassino was quieter. The Vibe: This is where you hang when you've arrived, the charges got dropped, they bought your script, and the high flyer equities you took a plunge into will now allow you pay off all three mortgages. Everyone was totally hip along with a few hip replacements. Small touches count. A Salt Cellar with Maldon Flaky Finishing Salt and a small hefty Pepper Grinder are on the table for use at your discretion. It all makes you feel good to be here and plan a return even before you order and that's even before you try your first loaf of marvelous Garlic Pesto Babka. The Bar: Way cool and hot at the same time. The beautiful people are stacked up 3 deep with LA's fickle foodies, someone on a Hinge binge, and Bad Roman regulars that make up a convivial crowd without any one feeling crowded. A generous pour of Signature Cocktails, Classics, a Curated Wine List all let you to blame the Bad Ass Bad Roman Bartenders when you're blowing into the breathalyser at the Sobriety Check. Despite being mostly off booze I was tempted by the Martini Pepperoncini. "Hello, my name is Ron and I am a back sliding weakling when it comes to a good Martini". And that's what this was with Oak Leaf Cluster. I am guilt free for having had it. The Bad Ombre was short and to the point A wannabe Whiskey Sour that was easily drinkable (said I after a polite sip). The Staff: Mario was a Pro from the jump. Bright fellow, he was, knowledgeable, and just enough Mario tableside to curate a fabuloso dining experience. Brother Mario knew when to take charge and when to take a powder. He enhanced the whole adventure. The Food: Dannatamente buono. The Garlic Bread Babka was positively brilliant. Served hot, a soft interior with a river of Pesto running through it. Redolent of Garlic all encased in a Parmesan Cheese dusted crust. Order two and I defy you to leave a crumb behind. The Crispy Calamari Casino was a basket of Calamari Fritti which were battered tubular slices, deep fried and dotted with specks of Speak (Bacon), a drizzle of Lemon Juice and a drip of Marinara Sauce. Eat'em while they're hot and before they become soggyfied. No problem, I inhaled them. The Spicy Caesar gradually offered up it's heat. Toasted Bread Crumbs stood in for Croutons. All in all this Caesar had a right to preside over the Roman Senate. The semi-main event was a Grilled Pork Double Cut Chop served with a meaty Rib. The Pork was sweet, perhaps from a Maple or Brown Sugar Glaze, but not too sweet. It was tender and running with juice as a Pork Chop cooked just right should be. No mystery chew, no gristle, no sinew, no cartilage, and no strings attached. The Chop was settled onto a bed of Roasted Escarole. Let the juices saturate the greenery first, then enjoy it. A very clever presentation indeed. As soon as the heat quiets down a bit go feral on that bone. The show stopper was the Grilled Butterflied Branzino. It was cooked as good as anyone can cook Fish. It was served spread Eagle on a bed of Salsa Verde and fresh Lemon Quarters to squeeze over the delicate filets before you. The Fish was translucent and transcendent and had me desperate for a third Garlic Bread Babka to sop up everything that slipped off my fork. Cooking Fish they well separates the true Professionals from the occasionally lucky home cooks. Mario lobbied for the Lemon Cheesecake and boy, was he right for which I remain grateful. The "Lemons" were really pastel colored White Chocolate illusions. Crack into them and find Lemon Panna Cotta. Questo e stato fantastico. It didn't hurt to add two ample scoops of Blood Orange Sorbetto. No more roamin' round town looking for killer Italian. My roamin' days ended at Bad Roman. read more

I am so happy to say that Bad Roman lives up to ALL of the hype! We had an incredible dinner there with friends, and everything was amazing, from the decor, to the food, to the service. The menu is amazing and has lots of options! Let's start by listing all the delicious food - the Cesar salad was delicious (heavy on the cheese), the whipped ricotta was heavenly, the garlic babka was out of control, the fried eggplant was hefty, and all the pastas and proteins we got were amazing. The dessert was some of the best I've had. Highly recommend the sorbet and the lemon! Service was great too. Our waiters and all the staff were incredible. Only notes: It's super cold inside. I think they could use some gluten free and vegan options. Also, they do cook the lobster pasta tableside. The appetizers I ordered for myself were nothing short of delicious. The salmon sashimi plate was INSANELY GOOOD. It honestly blew me away & I would surely order it again next time i come. Bad Roman is really about presentation and ambiance rather than excellent cuisine (as typifies most spots in Beverly Hills). The space is beautiful - hard not to feel like you're in for a festive evening. Though creative, the food here is ultimately for the Gram and you can certainly get better Italian elsewhere. Stick with the classics and you'll have a pleasant (if not expensive) meal - Babka, Whipped Ricotta, Steak (both times I've had the Raviolo it's been excessively gummy), and ALL the desserts (truly the best dishes on the menu). 3.5 stars read more

Somehwat posh and well decorated restaurant to spend the evening. Great location too as you can walk around Rodeo Drive if you have to wait. Can be a little noisy since its a bit crammed in there. I suggest starting with the garlic babka bread which is the top item in their appetizers. They also had a great salad dish, the Spicy Gem Caesar which isn't spicy (luckily) and had lots of cheese. The main course was excellent as well, particularly the seafood dish, the lobster pasta dish which had delicious seasoning/creamy sauce/chewy noodles. We also finished with the lemon cheesecake which was beautifully presented in the shape of actual lemons. Service was very friendly and checked up on us often. read more

Bad Roman is L.A.'s hot new sceney Italian restaurant, a Beverly Hills outpost of a popular New York joint. It's a mildly difficult reservation to land, though I was able to get a last-minute table for four last month, for a Saturday double date night with Carol A. and Kevin W. We showed up on time for our 8:00 reservation and had to wait at the bar for fifteen minutes before we were shown to our table. I know this stupid play, Mother Wolf did the same shit when it was the hot new sceney Italian restaurant. Bartender was nice, but we did have to pay for our drinks. The dining room was attractive, expensively built and decorated. Tons of cool light fixtures, plush furnishings in bold patterns and colors. Everything decadent and over the top. The vibe was fun and buzzy, maximally Saturday night. Service was okay. Our waiter was pretty indifferent, but she more or less did what she had to do. Annoyingly, our food came out in kind of a rush. I don't know why, as I doubt they were turning our table. Maybe just the general disregard of a restaurant at the height of its popularity. Drinks were great, starting with that round of cocktails. I loved my Martini Pepperoncini, a cold, salty martini with Grey Goose, pepperoncini brine, and lemon zest. Honestly the best thing I had at Bad Roman. The Bad Ombré was nice too, with Maker's Mark, lemon, a Barolo float, and a Chinato sinker. The Strawberry Sbagliato was an easy sparkling drink with strawberry-infused Aperlo, bianco vermouth, and Prosecco. The Tequila Granita was a sort of frozen margarita, with Dobel Diamante Cristalino, Cointreau, Calabrian honey, and habanero shaved Ice. We shared a bottle of red wine, and possibly two, with our meal--something Italian, I believe, though I don't remember what. The food was good and satisfying, if not in the top tier of Italian restaurants in L.A. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and they arrived in two large clumps. All at once, we had shrimp cocktail, salmon crudo, pepperoni cups, calamari, and a salad. The shrimp cocktail were excellent, big and snappy, served on ice with lemon, cocktail sauce, and some kind of aioli. The Faroe Island salmon crudo was nice, with honeydew, pickled serrano, and fresh basil. The 'Roni Cups & Ranch seem to be a Bad Roman signature, and I enjoyed them for what they were: giant pepperonis with a side of ranch. My favorite of the starters was the crispy calamari casino, excellent calamari tossed with bacon, pepperoncini, scallion, and plenty of seasoning. The arugula and pears made a tasty salad with candied hazelnuts and shaved pecorino. We ordered two pastas and a steak, which again, did not need to hit the table all at once. The agnolotti bistecca was filled with filet mignon and drizzled with balsamic dolce. Pretty good, though I've had better versions around town. The spicy lobster was a showpiece dish, flambéed tableside. Sweet, meaty lobster with campanelle and Calabrian chili, definitely a winner. The Snake River wagyu strip was a solid steak. We also enjoyed sides of spicy brussels sprouts and sidewinder fries tossed with rosemary and sage. For dessert, we had an affogato and a slice of tiramisu ice cream cake, both sure things that did indeed hit the spot. We also got a dessert cocktail--the Vesuvius Bowl, with Zacapa rum, pinoli orgeat, lime, and fire. This was, disappointingly, served in a normal-sized glass and not a bowl, but it did come flaming with multiple candy-striped straws sticking out of the ice. It was sugary and tropical, though I am now realizing it might have contained pine nuts (looked up "pinoli orgeat"), the one deathly allergy we told our server about at the beginning of dinner. Yikes! Turns out Carol sat out the Vesuvius Bowl just because she'd had enough to drink, but we narrowly evaded an actual emergency. Anyway, we had a great time at Bad Roman, and I'm glad the perfunctory service didn't send my friend to the hospital. I don't know that I'll be back in the near future, but it was definitely worth checking out. read more

I enjoyed the ambiance here and it was even more crowded than I expected. The crowd was cool, not too young and not too old, most people were dressed up which I personally enjoy. Loved the decor and the vibe inside. Food was good- not mind blowing, but it was a solid good. 8/10 with some show stoppers. The Babuka bread was very tasty and a perfect starter if you come hungry. It was cheesy inside and gooey dough with Parmesan on top which I liked. The pull apart eggplant was pretty good too, flavorful and the marinara was well seasoned. We got the Lamborghini shots (adorable!) and they hit a buzz for me right away even with all that babuka . The truffle honey ricotta was nice, but I wouldn't say I needed a full plate of it before it got to be a little overpowering. I was torn on the entree since I had read the filet is dry and unseasoned without the cacio e Pepe, but considering I was already carb loaded from all the appetizers, I decided against pasta dishes and went for the filet and cacio e Pepe. I will say- I don't know what these mediocre reviews were saying because it was a KNOCKOUT. Extremely flavorful and decadent. 10/10. Last was the lemon cheesecake, another knockout 10/10. The lemon made it fresh and tangy and the cheesecake inside was creamy and sweet, a perfect balance! All in all I'm glad I came for the experience. Service was excellent, we never felt neglected and were checked on just the right amount even with a full house. I would come again and try the other stuff on the menu, but if I didn't make it back I'd be ok because LA has no shortage of amazing places to go! read more

Lovedddd Bad Roman!! The vibes are so good, the lighting is perfect and sitting at the bar was honestly such a fun experience. I got the house bread, pepperoni cups and pasta and everything was so good. I asked for a crispy dry white wine and Dom and Eli ( bartenders) recommended one that was literally exactly what I wanted. I HAVE to shout out Dom (Dominique) and Eli behind the bar!! They were both so sweet, attentive and just genuinely fun to talk to. This place was dope! I really enjoyed the architecture and art of this dining establishment. The bartenders Eli, Harvey, & Nate were super cool and made great suggestions. They even let us sample a couple of the cocktails since they are pre-made. The pepperoni cups were good, but my friend was not enjoying them since the pepperonis were cured. The ricotta with honey was amazing. The oysters were good, but I didn't appreciate the oysters being different sizes when they were the same type of oyster. My friend decided to come to Bad Roman for dinner yesterday but we didn't make a reservation so he went there earlier around 5:30pm to get a table but it is very popular so we got a spot at the bar The bar is quite nice as well if you and your friends are waiting for the table or just walk in and that's a solution while waiting We had our dinner at the bar since it was full house last night We ordered two sides and two main courses and couple drinks for pairing My friend had one dirty martini and three glasses of red wine and I had one white wine We had meat balls and asparagus for the sides. The asparagus is drizzled with acid sauce so it is quite tasty to have it in summer Meat balls were delicious, too. The Cacio e Pepe is not impressed and I didn't taste the smell of the pepper but the penne is very special with the longer form Branzino was very tasty and the green paste was really refreshing which tasted very similar as chimichurri sauce and we loved it The dessert we had tiramisu ice cream cake and it was amazing ! We recently dined here, and while the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food flavor was genuinely good, the overall experience was a mixed bag. The biggest downside was the environment. The noise level was super high, making it difficult to converse, and the tables are packed way too close together, creating a very cramped and loud atmosphere with people talking extremely loud. Service was also very long and slow. To top it off, when we asked to pack up our meal, they put two of our leftover food together into a single box rather than separating it. As a nice surprise, they gave us a complimentary dessert of ice cream served with a separate lemon frosting cream, which was a lovely and delicious touch. read more

Bad Roman had been on my list for a while, and it lived up to the hype overall. The space is lively and fun, with a trendy atmosphere that makes it a great spot for a night out. Parking was fairly easy to find, they also have valet. The dishes were flavorful, well-executed, and perfect for sharing, service was good as well. It is definitely on the pricier side, but that's pretty much what I expected given the location, so it wasn't a surprise. Every new restaurant opening holds a promise but yet another Italian restaurant and don't hold your breath for an inventive menu. The two lonely slivers of salmon I got were well ok ,but adding a side would not have killed them. Bathroom staff need more frequent clean ups as it looked like it had not been tended to. Overall , for us it was not a hit but it's worth a try one time as we went at an odd hour around 4.30pm and the evening ambiance may offer more. read more

My favorite dish was the pepperonis but I really like pepperoni so maybe that's just me. The lemon cheesecake is very light and unique, the presentation is beautiful. Christine, the concierge at L'Ermitage Beverly Hills, recommended Bad Roman, and I'm really glad we listened. I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, but they couldn't have been more wrong based on our experience. From the moment we sat down, everything was outstanding. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and made excellent recommendations. The manager was also very attentive and stopped by several times to make sure we were enjoying everything, which was a nice touch. The food was excellent. The babka and Caesar salad were both incredible and are absolute must-orders. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and the branzino was fresh, flavorful, and one of the best dishes of the night. I also expected the restaurant to be much louder based on what I'd read, but that wasn't the case at all. It had a fun, energetic vibe without being so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. Bad Roman is a beautiful-looking restaurant, and the staff is friendly, but unfortunately the dining experience did not live up to the hype. Despite having a late dinner reservation, we were kept waiting for about 30 minutes. By the time we were seated, the restaurant was already emptying out, leaving us among the last diners there. The croissant bread was the highlight of the meal--so much so that we ordered a second round while waiting for our food, which took an unusually long time to arrive. The Cacio e Pepe was, without question, the worst version of the dish I've ever had. The eggplant looked impressive when it arrived, but it was extremely salty and barely edible. The fish was dry and served slightly cold. For a bill totaling $509, the only memorable part of the meal was the bread and butter. Amazing first (of many) visits to Bad Roman. After hearing all about the NYC location - happy to say it lives up to the hype. Our server Ashlyn set a high bar for the experience, taking such great care in making sure we had the BEST night. Food was excellent, with the signature Filet and Raviolo a standout, we also loved the whipped ricotta, the pear and arugula salad, the garlic Babka. Make sure to save room for dessert - Ashlyn made sure we got to try her favorite, the Blood Orange Sorbet- something we wouldn't have chosen otherwise, and it may have been the underrated fave of the night. The deconstructed Lemon Cheesecake, Tiramisu ice cream cake, and the chocolate torte were great too. We really enjoyed meeting several of the staff who were so welcoming to this new space, and really made the experience. Bad Roman is well represented in LA by this team. read more
