Tri Valley Bistro is a weekend brunch delight. It's never too crowded and service is very good. They have unlimited mimosas on weekdays too!

We were walking through downtown Pleasanton at dinner time with no particular destination. This restaurant looked to be busy enough to be good but still had some open tables, so we decided to try our luck. I love when I'm pleasantly surprised by a restaurant! We were seated quickly and our drink order was taken. They had a nice selection of beers and wine, lots of local selections. My husband ordered a beer and I opted for sparkling water. We ordered our dinners and while we waited, we got some warm bread and butter. I loved that. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli. It was delicious! There was a good amount of ravioli on the plate. The sauce had a slight sweetness but it wasn't too sweet. I'm always scared squash dishes are going to be too sweet and this one was done right, IMO My husband ordered the mahi-mahi dish. I took a small bite of it and it was good. He loved it. This is definitely a restaurant we will return to. We hadn't even left the restaurant and we were already talking about what we would order the next time we were there. It's good, give it a try. read more

Brought my parents here for an early birthday celebration because the reviews were pretty decent. We ordered the artichoke bruschetta as an appetizer and I ordered the fish tacos for myself. The waiter gave us our bread and butter to snack on while waiting. Unfortunately, the bread was not great, was only slightly warm and was not toasted. I know different restaurants serve their bread different so it wasn't a big deal though it was a little disappointing. The butter was also a disappointment as it had a more chalky texture and had a tendency to crumble when I tried to slice a piece off. The bruschetta had excellent flavor and texture, but it was four pieces, each piece only a bite size. My fish taco entree was a little lackluster too, sadly. Visually it was quite pretty with a variety of colors and a large mound of food for each taco; but those mounds also turned into how-do-i-eat-this puzzles. I can't complain that there was too much food though, never a bad thing, but even once i cut down the fish, guac, and cabbage to an amount that i could fold the tortilla around, it still lacked flavor. I kept thinking I wish I had some lime. I will say the dish tasted healthy, in the way that it tasted low sodium, in the way that it lacked salt which isn't necessarily a bad thing; but I wish it had more seasoning in general still. Even the sauce that came on the side, though quite good, didn't have enough flavor to make up for the lack of it in the tacos unfortunately. We had a reservation for two at noon on a Saturday. There was no need for a reservation. The indoor seating was fairly empty. We were seated between two couples, the indoor seating was tight, and we were way too close to the people next to us. Everyone felt uncomfortable as we could hear each other's conversations clearly. The ambiance was alright. They only had one set of lights on, so it was strangely dark, setting off the mood. Strangely there was only one person on service, which caused a huge delay in items. We didn't get our complementary bread until after we received our food, which is unacceptable. The person behind the bar seemed to be the owner, and she was just sitting there on her phone when there was clearly a need for another server. We ordered a kid's marinara pasta and spinach ravioli and one coke. The total was $41, which is a little expensive. Now the food was very bland, and we added a lot of extra salt, pepper, and chili flakes. The table next to us was also complaining about the blandness of the food. The food was cooked for people with weak palates. They need to season their food. I would recommend sitting outside because indoors, you would be packed like sardines. We won't be coming back. The food, service, and atmosphere are all 5 Stars at Tri Valley Bistro. The wine selections please, as do their signature cocktails. I find the food quality, plating & presentation, and attentiveness to details of everyone here, from the hostesses to the food preparation crew, to be consistently dealing winning hands. Open hours are earlier and later than other places on Main Street that are of this caliber. There is indoor, and two different areas for outdoor seating. Groups should make prior reservations. Management is beautifully accommodating. Do you have an exceptionally large group? That will not be a problem here. Tri Valley Bistro is in the very heart of old Downtown Pleasanton placing it in easy reach of pretty much everything. Curbside parking, or try one of the many parking lots. I had been working in Pleasanton recently and had walked by this establishment on my lunch break. I had ordered the Blackened Chicken Sandwich with Sweet Potatos fries. The people who work there were super friendly and had me out of their quick. The Chicken sandwich was seasoned perfectly and it was a perfect compliment to the Grilled Ciabatta bread. Sweet potato fries were also crispy and it was a good portioned sandwich. I will definitely go there again to try their other menu items. read more

We went there for a brunch for the first time. There are several good brunch spots in downtown Pleasanton. We walked around and this seemed like a nice place so we decided to give it a try. I ordered a seafood frittata and my son got an omelette. Both was delicious and filling. The service was friendly and we enjoyed people watching from the window seats. Service was terrible. The host that claimed to be the "owner" had terrible customer service from the start. We sat outside because of our dog and had our dog sitting by the door. She asked us once to move him which we did. My dog kept moving to the door which I moved him back like 3 times and she did not notice that I did. The 4th time my dog moved to the door right before I was going to move him she yelled at me for not moving him in front of other customers when I was going to. She was rude and terrible. The fact that she said she was the owner made no sense because I have met restaurant owners right before going to Tri Valley across the street that were super friendly, and they did not act like that at all. She could have just come up to me gently and tell me the 2nd time to move my dog instead of aggressivly telling me "I told you to move your dog, etc" very innapropriatre and did not come to check on us before this happened, all she seemed to care about was the money. I will never go back. Every other place around Tri valley were very nice servers and would even say hi to my dog but not here. If you are bringing a dog, this is not a friendly place to bring one. Do not recommend. The food looks terrible as well. I left before ordering. First of all you did not ask to move my dog multiple times... and second you did not kindly tell me to move my dog. You were rude at first and of course I'm going to respond to your unprofessional behavior. You need to revaluate how you treat your customers. You do not love dogs. You created a hostile environment for not only myself but for my dog and my party. The fact that you threatened to contact law enforcement to handle a customer service situation shows your inability and professionalism to handle simple customer service relations as a "business owner" read more

Nice place with food that shows great care on all the little things. Complimentary Bread was fresh and tasty. I don't really like home fries but the potatoes had been quickly been deep fried and seasoned nicely, not just sitting on a grill. Seafood Frittata had a nice mix of seafood. Meat Omelette had some nice onions - lightly sauteed but not overly caramelized. Fruit that came with each dish was super fresh. We ate inside but there is outdoor dining in the front and back. Service was very efficient. I never had an empty coffee cup. This is a step up from my usual breakfast places - I would consider this more of a brunch place. If you are looking for an upgrade from a diner (which I love), then spend a little more and come here. read more

It's a nice little place on Main St. with a cozy atmosphere. We came here to have lunch on the weekend. The food tasted great except my pastrami sandwich did not come with any of the promised housemade sauerkraut. Perhaps they had run out of it that day, I don't know. Easily earned 5 stars for a fantastic lunch! This was my first time visiting Pleasanton so I had to check this place out after hearing about their salads since I happen to be a lover of salads. My friend and I arrived around 230pm on a Sat and they were a little busy but were seated right away. Our server, Akdeniz, was very attentive and immediately brought our drinks. They had a variety of wines to chose from, and I enjoyed the Four Vines Zin. For our meals I decided on the Arugula Salad with added salmon. I just have to say what sold me on this place and the meal was how unbelievably good the truffle dressing was that came with the salad!!! I couldn't stop talking about it and am not usually a big fan of dressings. I even asked for extra and finished that too. My salmon was cooked perfectly, and the salad was a nice size and fresh. I agree with best salad Ive had since I can remember! My friend didn't care for his meal as much as I did. He enjoyed the crab cakes but sent back the risotto ball appetizer (I believe they were called). They were very dry and bland, but personally I wouldnt have ordered that in the first place. Our server took it away no questions asked, and brought something else instead which were the brussel sprouts that tasted much better. Great restaurant serving delicious meals in Pleasanton downtown. The outside looks unassuming but I have always seen a good amount of people dining here always. We finally got to check it out last Saturday. Hubby and I were looking for a cozy place to dine and celebrate our engagement anniversary. Reservation was quick and easy, we showed up on time and were seated immediately. Wasn't very busy at 6:30 pm. Our server seemed pretty knowledgeable about the food and the wines and took her time to go through the menu with us. She brought out a couple samples before we settled on the ones we really liked. For appetizer we ordered the Arancini balls. The flavors were really good on the risotto which was the stuffing inside the balls. I ordered their fried polenta with vegetables tower and hubby ordered their special of the day steak dish. You can tell that the ingredients are top quality and the chef takes care in the presentation. It's a smaller restaurant but I would highly recommend for anyone looking to have great quality food. Great service with outdoor seating. The servers constantly came to refill our water on a hot day. I was initially worried about the limited breakfast menu, but when we got there at 10AM the lunch menu was out already. Still ordered breakfast food at that time but it's good to have options. The portions were larger than anticipated and all the items were fresh. The bagel sandwich was composed well with the bacon the right amount of thickness and crunchiness. "Tri-Valley" The Tri-Valley area is a triangle-shaped region of the eastern San Francisco Bay Area, 18 miles southeast of Oakland and 33 miles from San Francisco. It encompasses the cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon, and Danville. (Wikipedia) So the name is pretty boring and that's a large area of which to call oneself a representative. This one works for me. Had a reservation- still seated in the elevated chairs. The chairs at actual chair level were being held for larger parties. Figured this wasn't a huge deal, so we sat in our "high chairs" for this meal. And no, there was no bar serving liquor...we did see an impressive number of wine bottles. My date had a couple glasses which landed around 12 bucks each. Which made my beers look reasonable at seven. Totally worth it for the food- started off with some arancini. Deep fried risotto balls with cheese in the middle. Usually not a fan of the balsamic reduction-style sauces; sopped this one up like I was thirsty! Scallops were probably great- did not try one...tried that black risotto. Let's just say I'm going to try to make a Sherry-cream sauce at home now. Sopped that stuff up like I was still thirsty! My spinach fettucine was all of those garlicky rich white sauce dreams with prawns. Pasta tasted fresh as well- always a plus! Little limoncello cake dessert thing...eh. It looked pretty and tasted pretty good. Still stuck on dinner- it was yummy and I'd return. Just don't mind the name of this place so much. It's almost confusing. read more

I come here often for the Lemon Chicken Soup ( as in several times a week)! It is the best version I have ever tasted. I tried to make it several times and gave up as my eggs always curdled and why keep trying when I can have the best in Pleasanton. Havva and the entire team are incredible. Decent food and service was friendly. Clean modern decor with large bar seats and some outdoor seating. Their food was good but unremarkable, except for egg Benedict came after almost everyone had completed meal. My son liked his French toast but my daughter wasn't too keen on her omelet. My husband liked his Bloody Mary more than the meal - they have all you can drink samosas that we did not partake in. I was walking around downtown Pleasanton around 7:30 pm on a Friday night and almost everything was closing at 8 pm! EXCEPT for my friends here at Tri-Valley Bistro. I love the atmosphere in here, it's dark and classy. They had a busy bar and a few occupied tables, got a table right away. Staff was so nice and attentive. When they said I wouldn't leave hungry, oh...they were not kidding. Huge portions. Delicious food. My mashed potatoes and veggies didn't hold the heat that well but minor detail. I need to make a statement about the fries. THE FRIES. So warm, crispy and a literal perfect bite. Something so simple, I will keep coming back for those fries, I will order take out for just the fries. The cocktails were also very tasty, good flavor but I can also taste alcohol and I love that. They just opened up a full bar and are playing around with the cocktail menu, definitely worth a try. Can't wait to try more! read more

This restaurant embodies all of the things that are frustrating with the Pleasanton food scene. It tries to be something special, but ends up being so basic. Great location, wonderful service, but the food just misses the mark. The initial review of the menu just demonstrates that there is little thought to the ingredients, in terms of seasonality or local sourcing. Atlantic salmon in August just when the local Coho salmon run is going strong. Brussels sprouts, asparagus and butternut squash in the middle of the summer? All of the entrees were baroque in their presentation: too many ingredients, too much "balsamic glaze" and candied pecans. Service was a bright spot. The staff is very friendly. My friends and I came here for dinner after work and really enjoyed our meal. We were a little concerned by how empty it was when we first arrived but it soon filled up. I ended up ordering the Grilled Veggie Farro Salad with Salmon and my friends and I shared the Roasted Brussel Sprouts. Everything was delicious and I left feeling very satisfied a full. Great service. Very tasty food. Definitely got what we paid for! Went to Tri-valley bistro before a concert with friends. We made a reservation, but were early enough we didn't need one. If you are going after 6pm I recommend getting a reservation. The number of tables are limited. The staff was friendly and attentive. Our water glasses were kept full and they remembered not to put ice in mine. I had the charred salmon stuffed with crab, shrimp and scallops. It was a large serving. The salmon was not dry and the stuffing was very tasty. I could only eat 1/2. It was accompanied by sage mashed potatoes and garlicky vegetables. Both sides had very good seasoning. My husband has the polenta. It was a tower of polenta. Ales, eggplant, mushrooms and cheese. The sauce was delicious. Our friends had the chicken risotto and scallops over rice. Both dishes looked delicious and plentiful. They took leftovers home. Even though we didn't eat all of our dinner we did decide to have dessert. My husband had the salted caramel cheesecake and I chose the mixed sorbet. The mango sorbet was fabulous. The raspberry was very good. He enjoyed the richness of the salted caramel cheesecake. Cute little bistro nestled in the hub of Downtown Pleasanton Main Street mecca of restaurants and boutiques. Was looking to give another eatery a brunching opportunity one Sunday when my honey & I opted to pop in Tri-Valley Bistro, since I tend to be such a creature of habit at times. Really wanted to eat outside in the sun, however the one table that happened to be available was literally squished in a corner and right next to a party that had 2 dogs with them that were comfortably laying right in the pathway we'd need to squeeze past in order to get to the table & even if we had decided to play doggie hopscotch to get to our niche, we'd be viciously having an elbow battle with the folks next to us. Just way too squishy for my tastes and that alone sort of put me off at first. But - bygones. Decided to eat indoors instead, semi reluctantly. The Interior: Dimly lit lent to what could potentially be a romantic dining space yet was lacking in personality in my opinion. Very pristinely clean, a plus, of course, however the overuse of earthen tones made things seem a bit "drab". The bar area appeared to have a nice selection of wines & I did note the clever lighting fixtures overhead as well as a lovely chandelier type arrangement which were a nice touch. Though the few tables outside were occupied, the inside only had 4 other tables of patrons and a couple at the bar, which was a bit surprising for the peak of brunch on a Sunday. Overhead you could hear "hipster" type remakes of popular songs you'd hear played on the radio today, yet remade in such a generic sort of way - jazzy, perhaps, however very dulled down from the originals in an almost elevator music kinda vibe that just didn't quite do it for me, yet I did my best to be my jovial self and playfully sang along from time to time. Bottomless Mims & Service: Pretty much what brought us here. I will say our waitress, who was lovely, timely and very attentive, kept my glass flowing, so no complaints whatsoever on that as well as her proficiency & professionalism. (5/5 stars) What we ordered: I opted for the Portobello Benedict. The eggs were cooked perfectly, however the overall plating left some imagination to be desired and the hollandaise used was very bland. The "fresh fruit" included a 1/2 banana that looked like it was just thrown on the plate - not even neatly sliced or anything. Not to mention the fact my English Muffin was barely toasted and almost appeared as if it hadn't even been. I ignored those things and took a few bites and it was just - lackluster. (2/5 stars) My bf ordered the Tri Valley Breakfast Plate which he chose with 2 eggs (scrambled), sausage & came with fresh fruit & potatoes. He also took a few bites and noted not a whole ton of flavor. We tried to jazz up our options with fresh black pepper, a bit of salt & even tabasco, but alas - it just wasn't working. (3/5 stars) We are not nitpicky people in the least & though we had a very nice waitress that day, we just weren't "wow'ed" at all by our overall experience. Perhaps we caught them on an off day, considering the reviews seem to praise TVB. Will I return? Probably not. There are a quite a few other restaurants available in the area that consistently deliver delicious meals as well as bottomless mim's. Where those offer a "bang", unfortunately TVB was merely a "fizzle" for us. It was decent, but nothing to brag about - or box up the leftovers, for that matter & that is totally not our style. What a great lunch!! I came here with my husband when the bistro first opened and remembered the food being good, but today's lunch with friends was really good!! The dishes were colorful, fresh and well made. We arrived when the restaurant opened at 11:30. Our waitress was friendly and our appetizers came quickly. The portions were bigger than I expected. The calamari was crispy and tender. The Brussel sprouts were delicious and full of flavor!! Unfortunately, our entrees took a long time to come out. However, the food was great and I loved my big salad. I ordered the grilled vegetable salad minus the farro and added grilled chicken. The chicken was grilled perfectly. I enjoyed the grilled zucchini, onions and eggplant on a bed of fresh baby spinach. Yum!! My friends ordered the arugula salad and the BBQ burger with sweet potato fries. Both looked great. Had a great lunch today at Tri-Valley Bistro. First time here and I'm glad I listened so my fellow YE's. This is a nice place, not huge but not tiny, with a bar. The menu is very diverse and there is something for everyone. Great starters, burgers, full entrees, and dessert (which I'm not eating these day to keep from turning into fluffy's "DAMN" for those of you who know that reference (comedic fans alike will know what I mean). So I ordered a beet and feta salad to start. The salad was good, and the beets were all locally sourced. They actually source their produce and meats locally (I was told today). The salad had a nice vinaigrette dressing and the portion size was good. For my main dish I had the roasted chicken which I thought was a part of a chicken (like a wing/thigh) but I was pleasantly surprised to get what looked like two nicely sized breasts on my plate. (I'm referring to the chicken...please!). The chicken was cooked great, loads of flavor (skinless) and topped with a great portion of artichoke hearts (great idea I am going to use on my next set of smoked chickens in my backyard). Served fresh julienne vegetables (carrots, zucchini) with broccoli, asparagus and herico vert (yeah it's just a fancy word for thin string beans but it sounds so foodie appropriate I had to use it). No dessert, but had a cappuccino which was good. My buddy had the bacon/onion ring burger that looked great, and he said the fries with it were fantastic as was the burger. He ordered it medium well (and it came just as he ordered). I would have ordered medium rare. The service was fantastic. Always making sure things were ok but not too frequent. The server talked to us for a bit about the locally sourced food and it definitely showed and tasted like it. Nothing frozen served here, all fresh. Solid 4 starts and I'll be back to try some other great menu items. The place reminded me of a fine dining restaurant (if it were night with candles on the table) but completely casual during the day for lunch.
