What a great lunch!! I came here with my husband when the bistro first opened and remembered the food being good, but today's lunch with friends was really good!! The dishes were colorful, fresh and well made. We arrived when the restaurant opened at 11:30. Our waitress was friendly and our appetizers came quickly. The portions were bigger than I expected. The calamari was crispy and tender. The Brussel sprouts were delicious and full of flavor!! Unfortunately, our entrees took a long time to come out. However, the food was great and I loved my big salad. I ordered the grilled vegetable salad minus the farro and added grilled chicken. The chicken was grilled perfectly. I enjoyed the grilled zucchini, onions and eggplant on a bed of fresh baby spinach. Yum!! My friends ordered the arugula salad and the BBQ burger with sweet potato fries. Both looked great. Had a great lunch today at Tri-Valley Bistro. First time here and I'm glad I listened so my fellow YE's. This is a nice place, not huge but not tiny, with a bar. The menu is very diverse and there is something for everyone. Great starters, burgers, full entrees, and dessert (which I'm not eating these day to keep from turning into fluffy's "DAMN" for those of you who know that reference (comedic fans alike will know what I mean). So I ordered a beet and feta salad to start. The salad was good, and the beets were all locally sourced. They actually source their produce and meats locally (I was told today). The salad had a nice vinaigrette dressing and the portion size was good. For my main dish I had the roasted chicken which I thought was a part of a chicken (like a wing/thigh) but I was pleasantly surprised to get what looked like two nicely sized breasts on my plate. (I'm referring to the chicken...please!). The chicken was cooked great, loads of flavor (skinless) and topped with a great portion of artichoke hearts (great idea I am going to use on my next set of smoked chickens in my backyard). Served fresh julienne vegetables (carrots, zucchini) with broccoli, asparagus and herico vert (yeah it's just a fancy word for thin string beans but it sounds so foodie appropriate I had to use it). No dessert, but had a cappuccino which was good. My buddy had the bacon/onion ring burger that looked great, and he said the fries with it were fantastic as was the burger. He ordered it medium well (and it came just as he ordered). I would have ordered medium rare. The service was fantastic. Always making sure things were ok but not too frequent. The server talked to us for a bit about the locally sourced food and it definitely showed and tasted like it. Nothing frozen served here, all fresh. Solid 4 starts and I'll be back to try some other great menu items. The place reminded me of a fine dining restaurant (if it were night with candles on the table) but completely casual during the day for lunch. A friend and I had plans to get together for lunch and catch up on life and were looking for something halfway between us. I'm in Concord and she's in San Jose... so Pleasanton it is! I promptly checked Yelp for some good lunch options and Tri-Valley Bistro was one of the first spots to pop up. Tri-Valley Bistro it is! The size of this restaurant makes it perfect for groups of 2-4. We were seated promptly and brought menus. I also asked for the wine menu and was happy to see such a great list to choose from. We went with glasses of bubbly. A lot of things sounded good on the menu, included a few of the salads and sandwiches. My friend decided on the fish tacos, and not wanting to risk a case of food envy, I got the same. The fish tacos include grilled fish, topped with slaw and guacamole. They also serve lime slices and a sauce on the side. I utilized the lime and didn't care for the sauce. I don't think the tacos needed the sauce any way. Service was good and we were checked on often, brought water refills, etc. The restaurant itself is clean and modern. There is some outdoor seating if you want to more fully enjoy the cuteness that is downtown Pleasanton. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. The food was nothing special and I thought it was overpriced. But the service was great so I'm rounding up. I had the chopped apple salad (I left off the walnuts) and thought the dressing was way too sweet. It would have been better with some lemon juice or vinegar to balance it out. My husband had the breakfast plate and it was fine but you could get the same thing at a lower price anywhere. I didn't think the breakfast potatoes were very good - kind of overcooked. I was tasked with planning a last-minute holiday lunch for my department and remembered that my trusted Yelp friends gave Tri-Valley Bistro solid marks. I called and spoke with the lovely Haava to make my reservation and was so thankful that they could accommodate us. The day of the lunch I drove past the restaurant and thought, "Eek." The exterior of the building isn't very appealing but, once inside, I was wowed! They did a wonderful job with their sleek and modern decor. Haava was a gracious host and led me to my table. Now on to the best part...the food! I opted for the Grilled Asparagus Salad with prawns, arugula and pesto-topped burrata. The lemony vinaigrette really took it over the top. So delicious. Every single person in my group thoroughly enjoyed their selection and said they wanted to dine here again. We had two appetizers, the arancini which was warm and tasty, and the seasonal figs & serrano ham which was too simple. My entrée, the rosemary lemon chicken, was disappointing. When asked if I could arrange a special cake for my daughter celebrating a big day (they have cake, they said), they responded saying they had a bad experience with online requests once and won't ever do a phone request or online request again. They told me they were also too busy to do it-- and yet the photos show almost no one at the restaurant. This is not the only issue. Last time we went, we ordered a salad without one ingredient due to allergies. They sent us the salad with triple the amount of that ingredient. They took it back quickly, just removed the items, sent it back, and my friend had a mild reaction to the food. We used to go every week and now, we won't. "Never judge a book by its cover," they say. After visiting the unassumingly named TriValley Bistro, I must add - "Never judge a restaurant by its name." Because, my friends, the quality of dining in downtown Pleasanton has just gone up a notch with the addition of this establishment. I was scheduled to have lunch this afternoon in downtown Pleasanton with a work colleague and a guest from out of town who was eager to try something new. A quick scan of Yelp revealed that TriValley Bistro was the top rated spot, higher than other restaurants that sounded much more upscale. Nevertheless, in Yelp I trust, so I made a noon reservation. Parking was a breeze and we strolled in a few minutes early. They had our table ready inside, but it was such a perfect fall day that we asked if we could sit outside, and they graciously took care of us. After a little work-related chit-chat, we took a look at the menu - there were so many excellent-sounding options that the three of us decided to order family style in order to try as many as we could. I had been advised by a trusted Yelper (and fellow fish lover) to get the ceviche - so I ordered that without hesitation. My colleague ordered the fish tacos (he always orders fish tacos!) and our guest agonized over the several salad choices before letting the server steer her towards the asparagus salad. Knowing all this would probably not be enough, I added a couple of other items - the corn-crusted calamari, and the fig, prosciutto and goat cheese appetizer. I also insisted they bring us a basket of bread, which I'd heard good things about (from the same Yelp friend). The bread came first, still warm from the oven and sweet to the taste. A little dab of butter and I was in foodie heaven, as was our guest who'd followed my lead. Next came the appetizers. The ceviche was all it was hyped up to be, and then some - fresh orange roughy, perfectly seasoned with lime and chili to give it just the right amount of tang and bite. What took this dish over the top for me was the fresh-baked chips it was served with (it was obvious they'd made these in-house) - I savored each bite of ceviche-laden chip, enjoying the diverse flavors as they exploded in my mouth! The Black Mission Fig appetizer was another winner - with the classic combination of fig, prosciutto, and warm goat cheese executed to perfection. I also enjoyed the calamari - crisp cornmeal crust, not too chewy - served with a creamy caper-sprinkled chipotle aioli. After a lengthy gap in time (I almost thought they forgot the rest of our order) - the fish tacos and asparagus salad arrived. Orange roughy was once again the star ingredient on the fish tacos, and the asparagus was farm fresh and nicely seasoned, maintaining the high standard established by the earlier offerings. Too full for dessert, we settled up and made our way back to our car, all of us in a mellow mood after such a delicious meal. According to Wikipedia, a bistro is a small restaurant serving moderately priced simple meals in a modest setting; bistros are defined mostly by the foods they serve. Slowly driving down Main St., I wasn't really set on what I was going eat for lunch. As I pass a handful of restaurants, nothing really stood out. After crossing another stoplight, I noticed "Tri-Valley Bistro" to my left. Since there was a convenient parking lot to my right, I figured I might as well give it a shot! As my colleague and I walk in, we were greeted by the hostess, and were immediately asked if we had a reservation. We both responded with a ..."uhhhhhhhhhhh......NO". It was a little awkward, but nothing too concerning. Their menu is fairly simple, so I was able to pick my item in seconds! I decided to go with the Salmon Sandwich. Verdict: I've had my share of Salmon sandwiches elsewhere, but this is hands down the BEST I've had thus far. The Salmon was perfectly cooked, and everything it was paired with was perfectly balanced. From the arugula ,tomato, onions, basil aioli, and pickles, it was a HOME RUN indeed! I can't tell you what type of bread it was on, but I do know that it is baked in-house! Slight crunch on the outside, nice and fluffy on the inside! The quality of the ingredients at Tri-Valley Bistro deserve 4 stars, but we had an off night there in general. So I'd rate it more of a 3.5. The lady next to us was having a medical issue that required calling an ambulance, so maybe that had something to do with the weirdness... but when it comes down to it the flavors & service were both kind of awkward :( First, the service. I know that this restaurant is kind of new, but the hostess & waiter sort of behaved like they weren't very experienced with talking to other people. No one was rude, just very very awkward in a way that's hard to write about concretely in a review... So, onto the food. The best dish of the night was hands down the prawns & squid ink fettuccine. Wow, this is a FANTASTIC dish. Tons of acid from the sundried tomatoes, perfectly cooked pasta and nice sauce. The prawns were a bit overseasoned, but cooked perfectly. Lovely, well-balanced dish. The rest: As a general note, the appetizers came out extremely quickly. Like maybe 5 minutes after we ordered, and all at the exact same time. Bread: I see a lot of people raving about this bread, but it wasn't special for us. Ceviche: Well, the fish was fresh, and there was a pretty good amount of it. But for us, the included sauce just tasted like guacamole. It didn't really taste like ceviche overall. Not bad, but kind of weird? Arancini: Unmemorable, but not in a bad way. Just OK. Brussels: Okay... these were definitely weird. I enjoyed them, but there was this odd flavor that I kept trying to place. Over and over, I kept thinking... what the hell is that taste?! Then it suddenly hit me. It has the same taste of chow fun noodles... yeah, I know that's very weird, but I'm sure of it. Maybe they use the same oil to cook with? I didn't find it unpleasant, but my mom couldn't eat them at all. I'm wondering if the entrees are the focal point here. And overall, the quality of the ingredients was undoubtedly good. Quaint little gem on Main St. Upscale California fare with Euro touches. Service efficient and pretty polished. Simple décor with lots of natural light makes it comfy for me. Mission Figs ($15/3.5*) Well composed plate, but everything was separated, so a bit disjointed. I also thought it was going to be fresh seasonal figs, but it was the dried version. Serrano Ham adds a gentle saltiness to the sweet figs and the balsamic. Baked goat cheese seemed superfluous. Huge serving, can feed 2-3 as an appetizer. Brussel Sprouts ($12/4*) Perfectly cooked halved sprouts, tender in the center and perfectly browned exterior. Lots of crumbled blue cheese, maybe a scant of red onion and doused with a vinaigrette. Again huge serving, this could feed 4-6. Rosemary Lemon Chicken ($24/3*) I only took a couple of bites out of this. First it was a large boneless chicken breast. For some reason I was thinking chicken on the bone. It was nicely cooked, pretty moist. But they aggressively slather it in their lemon/garlic sauce which is whitish/creamy. Very chunky too, so the chopped garlic was very visible. I just felt the presentation was a bit clunky, could use some finesse. Skirt Steak ($30/4*) This was on special, and I love skirt steak, so it was automatic. Perfectly tender beef but with a pronounced spring that skirt steak is known for. Sliced into hearty strips and stacked nicely. But again it was drowned in sauce. The good is the demi glace type of sauce was nice and subtle and not overpowering. Unless you got a nice chunk of green peppercorn which was spicy in an intense floral way. Potatoes super crisp on the exterior but tender in the center. Decent steak meal especially with a California Cabernet from their nice wine list. Limoncello Cake ($8/4*) This looks dead on like the one I had at a restaurant in Hayward a while ago (Ristorante Palermo). Right down to the colorful drizzle of sauces. Family birthday lunch and I decided I wanted to try this place. Was really happy the accepted reservations for 8 people and I was happily surprised they didn't force include gratuity. I will definitely be back for wine and appetizers!! Mom and sister got salads to start with and I loved the beet salad!! It was a generous serving so I was happy she shared. Mom enjoyed her salad but she didn't share so I don't recall what it was. It came with more asparagus so she may not have finished it all (our table had 3 orders of burrata so it was a lot of asparagus). The main entrees were just ok. Two of us got the rib eye. We like this little place a lot! It's small but that adds to their charm. It's located right on the main street and is easy to find with decent street parking or a lot across the street. The menu is not huge but there are enough things offered that is something for everyone. I love their Grilled Rack of Lamb - very tender, tasty and with a great sauce. My wife likes the way they do their fish. And they are one of the few places that have Arancini, deep fried risotto balls stuffed with cheese. Their crab cakes are also very good. While other iterations may have failed miserably, Tri-Valley has managed to nail it with the ubiquitous seafood pasta dish. The green pasta was cooked just right (others will usually be too wet) while the alfredo-esque sauce was decidedly spot on, being neither too watery nor too fishy. As a new establishment, the decor is modern and works with its neutral greys and hardwoods throughout. Thankfully, they seem to be fairly kid friendly, too. My feisty four-year-old daughter got a pink cup, and was happy. And we were just one of several families that day with children in tow. Highly recommended beyond the otherwise boring restaurant scene here. The place then is a fine addition to the mix. And oh yes, they have creme brulee. Definitely coming back for dinner! Their claim to fame in Pleasanton is that they have the "Best Salads in Town", I am not going to disagree one millisecond with that statement! Came here having wanted to try this place out in the myriad of options in Downtown Pleasanton. It's a comfortable bistro with a modern splash of color and fixtures. A very eager staff welcomed me as I arrived, a bit early I might add from the reservation I made for two. They were just opening and settled but I appreciate they were able to get me seated anyway. My drink order was taken, opted for water for the both of us and ended up sticking with that, I was parched. My guest arrived and then they seemed to be ready to come over at intervals to make sure we were ok before ordering. Everything said and done, we ordered the Chopped Apple Salad with Chicken while my dining partner had the Grilled Vegetable Farro Salad. Both were absolutely fresh and completely worthy of the "Best Salads in Town" distinction! I couldn't get enough of the salad however I also wasn't able to eat all of it because it was so big! Very very pleased with this place and its people. Definitely going to try their other salads!!! read more

Should have left the moment we asked for a table for 2 and were interrogated if we had a reservation! It was 6:30 on a friday... Ugh... No, Do I need one in an empty restaurant?!! Should've left... "Ok we will put you outside and turn on a heater" Me; Ok we'll take this table next to the heater... "No we need to save it in case a party of 4 comes to our empty restaurant" Should've left.... We look at the menu and decide it's just too cold to eat outside, So Mr M gets a beer and we order an appetizer; Risotto balls they were good, but could've been better with more balsamic reduction or an aioli to dip them in, would have been great! I couldn't order a drink due to being so cold, when I told them I didn't want water.... Still don't like to waste, I grew up in a drought and we are just getting over one (maybe,hopefully?!!!) totally threw them off! Husband didn't like the beer, or appetizer! I didn't like anything about this place, which is why I will not go back OR recommend this place... That being said Chris or waiter was great and I hope to see him working elsewhere as I owe him a better tip! read more

We've had a consistently fabulous experience at Tri Valley Bistro. The food is delicious - try the mouthwatering polenta cake, it's amazing.
