Hi, I'm hoping this email reaches the owner or manager, Neri. I purchased my bike back in May of this year from Jerry and come to find out, everything he told me about the bike is not true. He said I wouldn't be getting flats. I've had several flats in 1 month and the bike is too big for me. When I was purchasing the bike, I asked him to measure me and he said it was a good fit and to buy the bike before it went out of stock. Fast forward to today, the reason I am writing this email, I have had no trouble with customer service at Triathlon and would like to keep it that way. However, I brought my bike in yesterday to get the back tire fixed for a flat and everything was good. I start riding and notice the gears were off. I called and asked if someone would be there to fix the gears. I've had my bike since May and know how my bike works, like most people who ride their bikes. Well, I'm telling Jerry he basically messed my bike up. He's telling me about my gears. I explain to him everything was great before I brought the bike in and when i left I couldn't push my brake down, and had to look at my gears instead of knowing which gear I was in. He walks away mid sentence while I'm talking and says something slick while walking away. I've referred several people, who have purchased bikes, just like i was referred. But if this is the way your employees handle this mistakes, I will no longer be referring and if I have to come get my bike serviced again and I happen to come by Triathlon, if he is rude one more time, that will be his last time speaking to a customer that way. Absolutely terrible customer service. I called them to ask a question about a derailleur for my bike since I broke mine and I didn't know what kind it was. Keep in mind I just called them and after I told them I didn't know the part name, he started babbling about how I was wasting his time and said very angrily, "Call me back once you know what you want." I'm sorry I don't know everything about bikes and it is supposed to be your job to help me with this kind of stuff. That's the reason I called for crying out loud. Also, the job I was asking for was way more expensive than other bike stores. What a scam!!! I don't recommend this place at all. read more

3 stars - atypical triathlon shop I get a kick out of the guy who runs this place. Its almost like a local Michael Ball kinda dude. Anyways this a great place to check out if you are into triathlon or just starting out. The attitudes can get a little aggravating when all you want to do is just get your stuff and go but that's to be expected of any good tri shop. Most of the guys are nice but some times you get someone with a chip on their shoulder (or maybe she was just being flirty) and it makes you question why you're handing them so much money and getting crappy attitude in return. The foreign guy is cool. He knows his stuff. They stock some sick bikes and have seen them provide excellent service to high end purchasers. I've yet to buy a complete from them. read more

I needed to get my only worn 4 x Roka Maverick II wet suit fixed....ripped the heel cuff putting it on at the Redondo Beach Triathlon...I'm new to wet suits...so working so close to here..this location is a no brainer... The whole staff are wonderful and cool...Especially Teresa, I like her a lot...but this time I spoke with Guilliame and he was cool....basically they sent the suit to "Swell Stuff Wetsuit repair...suit came back like new..perfect. Service was fast, not cheap...so I will probably keep this suit..thanks Tri lab. read more

Triathlon Lab has been my source of gear, knowledge, and service since I took up the sport a year ago. Among other things, I purchased my first tt bike here. The owner, LLoyd, took the time to measure me, fit the bike, and try out 5 saddles to find one I liked the best. My comfort on the bike improved tremendously after the fit. The rest of the staff have also been really helpful with things like wetsuits, shoes, bike routes to try...you name it. Overall great shop and people. read more

I went in about two weeks ago looking for a wetsuit and after two swims in it, I'm sure it was a great choice. When I walked in Markus helped me right away with the fit. He also offered recommendations and rationales for a few wetsuit options. I walked out with a great fitting wetsuit for a lot less than I probably would've spent if I ordered what I had been looking at online. This is a great place to go to learn about gear. It will be hot in there to try on wetsuits, so consider the day you go. read more

Their customer service is seriously lacking. I called to see if they had a specific item in stock. The man that answered the phone told me he believed they did. I wanted him to check (you know his job) before I went in. He didn't like this. When I asked him how much they were, he mumbled. I said, "what?". Took my husband's bike in because the wheel had developed a wobble. Seemed simple enough, but had to explain that to no fewer than 5 different employees, the 5th one, I think his name's Chris, was really nice--all of whom were behind or near the repair counter--before being told that the "bike mechanic" wasn't in and wouldn't be in for a few days. (What were all of those guys doing behind the repair counter anyway, if they aren't bike mechanics?) Not good, but decided that it might be worth the wait due to the bike being a Specialized brand and not that many bike shops in the area work on them. After a few days, hadn't heard anything, so I called. The "bike mechanic" identified himself as the manager. He talked a lot, seemed smarmy and unpleasant, and it seemed as if he could be exaggerating the problem to increase the amount of the bill. When I objected, he said that just for me, he would give me a special price. His whole spiel was eye-rollingly over the top. The price was somewhat high, but he assured me that was the best possible price to fix the bike right so that it would work well for a long time and be safe. Even though only one spoke had a problem, all of the spokes needed to be replaced, he insisted, and that would take some time. My husband had ridden the bike 50-100 or more mi a week for many months, I reasoned, so perhaps the spokes would need replacing. The bike was not done by the date promised. Reluctantly, gave them a few more days. Finally, it was done. I went to pick up the bike and the amount I was told was much higher. I protested and the manager/ bike mechanic went into another overly dramatic spiel, but eventually, brought the price back to what we'd agreed upon. The very first time my husband rode the bike after the "repair," at least 5 spokes broke. My husband is tall, but he is NOT overweight. Besides, the bike has an extra-large frame so it's designed to be ridden by tall people. Took the bike in and they actually had the nerve to resist the idea that they should have to do anything about the problem of the spokes they installed breaking right away. Finally, after much back and forth, they said they'd fix it and call me when it was ready. After 5 days, hadn't heard anything, so went in to check. Nothing had been done to fix the bike. They only gave lame excuses and didn't know when it would be ready. Again, the bike mechanic/ manager wasn't there. Frustrated and dismayed, decided to cut my losses--I'd already spent something like $130, wasted time in the shop and on the phone, and my husband had been without his bike for almost 3 weeks. Took the bike and found another shop that works on Specialized brand bikes, as well as probably every other kind of bike: Ted's Manhattan Cycles 110 N Sepulveda, Manhattan Beach, CA 90265 http://tedsmanhattancycles.com/ They did a great job! The entire transaction was quick, straightforward, and no nonsense. They understood the problem right away and were honest about what it would take to fix it. They're courteous, reasonably priced, and they do good work. Two days after I brought the bike in, it was fixed right and fixed solidly. My husband's had no more problems with the bike, even though he rides it to and from work (10+ mi) and other times, too. I regret ever going to Triathalon Labs and will never go there again. I'd advise against anyone going there that doesn't want to be over charged for shoddy work and waste a bunch of time. read more

Location: Great Parking: Great Knowledge of staff: Hard to tell Service: POOR, to be avoided. I walked in thinking this was a bicycle shop where I could purchase a carbon fiber bike. I think they are actually drug smugglers though because they sure don't seem to want anyone to come in and buy anything. They couldn't possibly be a bike store since it's so obvious they are eager to turn people away. Ok maybe it was me? I don't know anything about bikes I just know that I wanted a bike with a synthetic frame. Maybe it was my stupid questions or my tendency to ask about the cheapest items in the store to warm up to what I am really interested in. No that's not it at all. It's because i wasn't looking for heroin. If I had been looking for heroin I bet that guy who claimed to be the owner would have done back flips to the stock room to fetch me a fix of their latest import. Instead I asked about a carbon fiber bike he had and he just couldn't be bothered to tell me anything about it. Read all the other reviews. Many tell the same story. Why open a store if you aren't interested in selling anything? I predict these guys will not be open for business for very long. Unless the crack heads are aware of their ruse. read more

The Good: Lots of selection The Bad: Poor customer service. Difficult to find parking. I can't remember a time when I've stormed out of a retail store fuming mad. Yesterday, I bought a pair of Zoot Swift FS shoes. I needed them for a race today. They looked great, were a fair price, and light as a feather - perfect! The sale transaction was quick and painless - they did a fantastic job collecting my money. When it came to helping me with a problem, however, there was a whole different story. On race day today, the skin on my achillies tendon started bleeding into the shoe during the run portion of the triathlon. Looking at the shoe afterward, I realized that there is this stiff cotton lip that runs around the top of the shoe that is angled inward toward the heel. That part was what caused the friction and bleeding. After the race, I called them up and explained the problem. They told me to come on by and they'll either exchange it at full retail or less 10% restocking fee if they're not in "like new condition." I told him that I live an hour away and didn't wanna drive home to pick up my receipt and if they could still do the exchange. He asked if I used a credit card. I said I did, and he told me that they could just look up the transaction that way. "Cool!" I thought. I was willing to accept the 10% restocking fee. In fact, I told myself that if they let me exchange them, I'm going to buy a $350 wetsuit today, too. When I got to the store, there was a guy at the counter (don't remember his name, but he was an older asian-looking gentleman). He proceeded to tell me he can't do the exchange because I don't have my receipt. I argued with him about this for a few minutes trying to explain what I'd been told over the phone - he wasn't hearing it. Finally I asked if I could just mail them to the store with the box and receipt once I got home. He said that would be fine. Fair enough - my fault for not having my receipt. Then came time to get my new shoe. I walked over to the shoe section and a new guy was standing there, who appeared interested in helping me. I explained what happened during my race today. He then started trying to sell me a "support" shoe. These are the kind of shoes people have to buy who over pronate. The cushioning is stiffer in the arch area to help prevent people's feet from overpronating by supporting the arches during compression - hence the name "support." I do not overpronate. I have a normal arch and normal pronation. When I explained this to him, he took a step back and scoffed at me. Yes - he literally scoffed at me! Then he started telling me how I have something wrong with my feet and I need to see a specialist shoe fitter. I looked at him and repeated that I have a normal foot and I don't need a "support" shoe. Then he asked to see my shoe. He pointed to the blood in the shoe, looked at me, and said "I can't take these back, man. There's blood inside." I looked at him, snatched my shoe out of his hands, grabbed my other shoe off the counter and stormed out of the building. I could have slapped him. Needless to say, I didn't buy the wetsuit, and I won't be shopping here again. read more

Great selection and nice showroom. The problem i have is that they charge $75+ for a fitting. You think that they would do this for free for a paying customer but no. I paid for someone to barely tweak my saddle and handle bars for no more than 15 minutes, what a joke. The sad part is that if they would've done this for free I would have definately come back and referred my friends to them. I could see a charge if they do a prolonged in-depth fitting that took over an hour but there shouldve been no charge for me, or at most they should make it that you have to buy at least $50 -$75 worth of their merchandise for a free fitting. Simply The BEST triathlon store! I am a 9-time Ironman 140.6 finisher and have done over 100 other sprint and Olympic distance triathlons over the past 10 years and these guys at Tri Lab have always been there for me getting everything I need done to keep me at my best and most prepared for any competition. I can't say enough great things about both locations here in Redondo and Santa Monica as they offer the best service with very knowledgeable staff plus all the most popular brands of the best triathlon gear on the market. They have worked on all my Cervelo (2 Cervelo P3 and Cevelo SLC SL) bikes. This store has it all and if I could I would give them 10 stars!!!! Thanks guys ;) read more

This shop is listed on Specialized's website as a dealer...So, I called them looking for a specific item. When I talked to them on the phone, listing the item by the exact name, I was told they had something entirely different. When I once again specified what I was looking for they put me on hold to check. They once again came back to the phone to tell me they didn't have the item...except the item they were telling me they didn't have was, again, something completely different than what I asked about. So, I don't even have to step foot into this shop to know they haven't a clue. Buyer beware. read more

I been training for my first triathlon and Triathlon Lab has an excellent starter kit which I upgraded the bike and wet suit. Friendly and knowledgeable staff who took the time to make sure I was completely satisfied with my purchases. Update: I still think Triathlon lab is a top notch store in terms of their inventory and bike know-how. However, I'm changing the rating from five stars to three stars because of my last interaction with them. I had my bike shipped there from a race I did elsewhere in the country with the request that they re-assemble it to my specs, which I attached to the bike (and which they had on file, since they did my bike fitting). I also asked them to true the front while, which was slightly bent. I had called and spoken with different people on the phone there three different times, checking to see if my bike had arrived. Each time I reiterated what I was asking them to do, because none of them seemed to know what was up. After my bike arrived, I called on a Tuesday to see if it was ready. "Sure," they said. "come and get it." So on Wednesday I take a half day off of work, arrange for childcare and drive the 20 miles from my place to the Triathlon Lab. There sat my bike: reassembled but completely off-spec, and the front wheel still bent. "Uh, I need this reassembled to my specs and the front wheel hasn't been trued." Blank stares. I state again what I had asked them to do. "sorry, we had a miscommunication. this should take us about 10 minutes." 25 minutes later. "We have a problem. this type of wheel set requires proprietary tools that we don't have..." I had known this might be a problem. I agree to buy some new parts. "this will take us about 10 minutes." 30 minutes later "we have another problem with compenent compatibility..." It would have been nice had they caught these problems earlier so I hadn't driven down only to find my bike in complete disrepair... Long story short, I had to come back the next day after spending $800+ on my bike to get it in a riding condition (they had quoted me $650). He offered me a discount, which was the discount I would have received anyway, since I'm and LA Tri Club member. Big head ache, big disorganization, big bucks. The headach and the disorganization could have been avoided, and the big bucks, given the headache and disorganization, should have been less. I agree with Brendon D. "Go there if you live in teh area, but not worth driving all the way across the city." My original post: I made the mistake of purchasing a bike from a competitor bike shop down in Laguna Beach. When I couldn't get the fitting scheduled (they were quite uninterested in following through with what they owed me) I called Triathlon Lab and they made an appointment right away. They were excellent, and even gave me a discount on the fitting, since I should have received it with the purchase (from another bike shop!). The staff is highly competent, professional, and spent the time with me to fit my bike and get me on the road properly. My future business goes to Triathlon Lab. I highly recommend them. read more

My wife and I have very conflicting work schedules, so it was hard to get in there at the same time. We came in on a Sat about an hour before they closed. Everyone was very nice. Matt helped us mostly, and he was awesome. He stayed 40 minutes after closing and never did we feel like we were keeping him. He answered all of our questions, took his time and we had a great experience. I'll be returning for my tri needs, and assuming my wife loves the sport like I did after my first tri, she'll be back as well. read more

I had a spoke pop hitting a steel plate where road work was being done. I brought my wheel in the same day and they had the bladed spoke on my carbon fiber aero wheel replaced in about 20 minutes. I was shopping for my brother-in-law's gift and since I have zero knowledge of triathlons, the staff here was very helpful in helping me within my price range. They have a huge assortment of items, from bicycles, to swim gear, to energy bars and supplements, to training books and videos, to equipment backpacks, to elastic straps that hold the race number. Ian is an awesome and very professional bike fitter. He refitted my already fitted bike that was set up for aggressive and competitive riding to suit my current weaker status. Today I went riding and it was the first time in years I didn't have back, knee, calf, shoulder, and quad pain. So glad he could use his professional expertise to help me out so I can get back on the bike again. Let me first say, I live in Redondo Beach and I'm a Ironman triathlete. These people are jerks. I have had several bad experiences in there and this was the last straw. Saw something I liked, undecided, went online to there website and they were offering a 15% coupon online. Asked if we could use the coupon and pick it up...NO. They have to ship it. Ok. I can buy the same thing online from someone else and they are offering the same discount. They also offer a points reward program and we asked how many points we have? The guy snaps and says they are closing and there are people in the store. Mind you we had been trying to call for the past 2 hours. Sorry. Besides the actual merchandise, the staff are terrible. Have made several purchases there in the past including a P2 Cervello. Each time the customer service has gotten worse. Today was the final straw. I was shopping for a new front rim and did some research on line. I saw the price from the on line store was around 549 bucks. I kinda wanted the rim today and plus I like to support local tri shops. I drove up there (25 miles) and inquired about the rim. The sales rep who first helped me was nice. When he showed me the rim I noticed the price was over 100 dollars more then their on line store. I brought this up and the sales rep went to the manager. The manager came over and said if I wanted that price i should just get it on line. Ok?!?....I guess business is booming at the store. Was not looking to get a cheaper price and would have paid a little bit more to have the rim right then, but the manager was incredibly rude and obviously did not want my business. read more

Having been a General Sales Manager and Director of Sales of multi million dollar corporations and in this highly competitive economic climate I was totally blown away by the total neglect of any form of customer service. Hadn't planned on stopping but in the market for a road bike and saw that they had a sale. Readers digest version don't waste your time or energy. Was told the size bike I was looking for wasn't in stock, yet I found two on the floor. I wanted to demo a bike and was told sure, only to still be standing there 20 minutes later as customer after customer came into the store making small purchases. (I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt...Qualified by what i was wearing?) Anyway, walked out and drove to Performance Bike in Hawthorne where I was greeted by Marc and taken through a very informative overview of different bikes, etc. I purchased a Carbon Fiber Road Bike and have been back multiple times to purchase additional accessories. If you are new to the triathlon scene, this is your go-to spot! After months of searching for a road bike and several bad experiences at other local bike shops, I set foot into Tri Lab in April to find out more about the starter kit that included a Felt road bike, Profile Design wetsuit, helmet, googles, cap, tri top & bottom, and transition bag for $999. Jerry and Lloyd were awesome and took the time to answer all of my questions and didn't rush me at all as it took me a couple weeks to pull the trigger. Best decision ever! That wetsuit alone has kept me warm and got me through plenty of distance swims this summer, while the Felt has been the perfect entry-level bike for an affordable price. After my first flat on a long ride, I swung by Tri-Lab to ask for some pointers on how to change a flat quickly during a race and Nery was awesome! He stopped everything he was doing, took the time to give me a hands-on demo and gave me the confidence to race the next day. I've been telling all of my tri friends in Long Beach to cruise on down to Tri-Lab for quality service and awesome staff. Big thanks to Bodie, Lloyd and Nery for sharing your knowledge and always being so helpful. Could not have made it through my sprints this season without the Tri-Lab crew! read more
