Tried out this Richardson location with a friend this week. I love the location! We had a booth my the window and could people watch the sidewalk. Friendly service too. My friend got the catfish and shrimp platter, I got the salmon-herb butter style and we shared the fried green tomatoes. Tomatoes--the addition of little blackened shrimp was awesome!! Other restaurants should take notice! The platter was good--really big portions and not greasy at all. I appreciated the choices on the Catch of the Day offerings. You pick a protein and then have 4 choices for the style and sides. I picked "herbed butter" which meant loaded mashed, sautéed veggies and a big dollop of herbed butter on the fish. The whole plate was so flavorful and delicious. I missed taking a picture because I dove right in! Only thing keeping this from 5 stars was the cook on the salmon--a little over. I had even asked the server if it was cooked medium and requested it like that. He assured me they "do it right". It was dryer than I like, but I ate it all...so it wasn't awful. We happened to try Tricky Fish on a night where they had the windows open and we could enjoy the outside (without the extreme heat). It made for a nice ambiance. You could also sit outside as an option. The service was attentive, friendly, and helpful with suggestions. We took advantage of their drink specials with the $5 mules that night. I had a Hill Country mule and it went down just fine. My husband went with the Dirty Pineapple mule. That was also tasty but on the sweeter side so it was a bit much to have a second. For dinner I went with the Low Country Cobb salad and opted to have it topped with grilled salmon. THe salad on its own was a generous portion. The balsamic dressing was the right balance on the greens and veggies and the salmon just put it over the top! I found it hard to stop eating it all because it was so good! My husband went with the Today's catch with the Redfish. His fish was cooked perfectly and the dish had lots of flavor with a generous portion. I was in Dallas and my friend suggested we meet up here to catch up and enjoy some really good food. I'm glad she knew about this place because it did not disappoint. They have street parking in front but there's also a much needed parking garage, and it's free!!! We were immediately greeted and sat right away. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, made great suggestions for me being a first timer and was able to figure out what dish my friend wanted. They offer brunch specials on the weekends so we had the Mimosa tri...I must say that pineapple juice was so refreshing that I didn't even drink the other two. My friend said we had to order the hushpuppies and she was right, that hint of jalapeño and cheese definitely set them off!!! I also ordered the boudin balls and the dipping sauce was really yummy. She also ordered the fried green tomatoes but had to take home to enjoy. Another friend joined us and she ordered the Tricky Fish, which is redfish served over dirty rice and topped with crawfish etouffee. She also had something I had never heard of, okra fries... which looks like they fried/oven baked the whole okra piece and then seasoned it, very healthy and delicious alternative to french fries. Disappointing first impression. Due to the good reviews I had high expectations for this restaurant. We arrived during happy hour and were surprised to see the restaurant was empty. We were seated quickly and the server took our drink order immediately. Unfortunately, when I ordered a draft beer the server informed me their fridge was down and all they had available was bottled beer. Once the drinks arrived, we inquired about the oyster shooter appetizer. The server went on to explain what the appetizer consisted of and that they no longer offered it as an option even though it's on the menu. We needed up settling for the 30A queso with shrimp. The queso had a nice thick consistency and was delicious. Not sure if the shrimp added much to the flavor, but it also didn't detract from the app. For our entrees we ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp with veggies and the redfish tricky fish platter. The star here was definitely the tricky fish, it was heavily spiced and full of flavor. The crawfish etouffee was outstanding and the fried okra was tasty. As far as the bacon wrapped shrimp, the meal was average at best and the flavor didn't come close to the redfish entree. Our server did ask about a second round of drinks midway through our entrees. I did agree to a beer, but my wife passed on her Painkiller. Moments later a different server came to ask my wife if she wanted a refill and once again she passed. To our surprise our server delivered another Painkiller to the table and took it back moments later when we reminded him that my wife had passed on the drink. Overall this restaurant did not meet my expectations. The food was tasty, but there were too many misses during this visit that detracted from the overall experience. I always enjoy coming here. The drinks are always good and the food a majority of the time is tasty. The beach blossom cocktail was $9. The fried catfish platter and po'boy was $13 each. I arrived to the restaurant to be told my food was up next, that was at 12:30. Here comes 12:45 and still no food. My co-workers ordered at the restaurant and got their food before I did. I had to leave to get back to work. I asked for a refund and was told I would not get a receipt of refund. I have NEVER had this experience at this restaurant. Their cocktails are delicious and satisfying. I didn't feel as though I was pay for a pretty fruit drink with no liquor. I had boiled shrimp which was presented beautifully. The shrimp was fresh , tasty, and worth it. I also had the shrimp po-boy. I've ordered to-go and dine in a few times and each time this place continues to disappoint. I've visited their other location in Frisco and that one has exceptional service, they're very attentive, and clean. I went to this location in Richardson thinking they would provide the same efforts, but I was so wrong. The waitstaff never seem to care about providing good customer service or cleanliness. I've witnessed several waiters bus a table, put their hands on other people's used plates and cups, sweep, and go straight to bringing fresh food out to customers - dirty fingers and all. My guy friend said there was vomit on the restroom floor the last night we came to eat. The food is good, so I've never had issues with my to-go experience. What we ordered - fried calamari: soo good. Highly recommend - tricky fish entree: I've had both the crawfish etouffee and shrimp etouffee and I definitely prefer the shrimp. The blackened redfish and dirty rice are very well seasoned. I don't care for the fried okra, but still recommend this dish - side Mac & cheese: surprisingly tasty! so creamy and lots of flavor! I didn't want them anymore since this was a stop before dinner which was directly following our departure. Firstly our server Kara was amazing! The food was incredible. But I disliked the seating arrangements. They don't allow you to combine tables even if they are right next to each other. Inside and out. So we had to seat 6 of us to a 4 person booth. Kinda annoying but I can manage. And there was a bug in our food and nothing was done. I wasn't really looking for anything but a table visit from a manager would have been nice. Usually just good hospitality. I feel bad for the server for having to deal with all of that on her own. It's not her fault. But ultimately I would still eat here again. Recommend the fried cod! read more

I came here for the first time yesterday for Fat Tuesday and had a blast! I'm new to the area and this was my first time at any Tricky Fish. Really nice atmosphere, and very friendly staff. I sat at the bar and the bartender, Allen, was very kind and attentive! I had the Mardi Mambo cocktail (PLEASE PUT THIS ON YOUR REGULAR MENU!!!), a margarita ($5 all day on Tuesdays), fried green tomatoes topped with shrimp, $1 peel and eat shrimp, and a cup of gumbo! Everything was delicious!!! The drinks were excellent! In honor of Fat Tuesday, they even had a high school band drumline perform which was awesome! They were really good! and that was a lot of fun! The only reason I give them a 3 stars is because the food was terrific and female waitress who did help us was great. I am not upset about the food. By the way I had the tricky fish plate and my wife had the gumbo. The service from our waiter was horrible. He came and took our drink order then came one last time to take our food order and he never came back to our table. He was still there but never came back. My wife ordered a drink that never came even though we asked the gentleman that brought the food if he could check on it. He was not our waiter. I finished my beer and we both finished our food. Then I flagged down a female waitress who actually did check on us once and asked her who our waiter was. Turns out it was the same inattentive person we thought it was. I asked her for a to go box and she brought it. I told her if I could leave the tip to her I would but we were paying by card. I also told her I was leaving him the waiter no tip. The restaurant was very nice and in a nice area. The food was excellent the waiter sucked. This could have easily been a 5 star review had it not been for the lack of customer service. read more
