We are coffee tourists. We travel for the soul purpose of uncovering the coffee standouts. Trident Coffee is an EPIC find, absolutely decadent coffee, from the smooth black classics to the most delicious off road creations. The cold brew is superlative , it's an unfathomable taproom of the highest quality. Alongside the excellence of what we were hoping to find - we got to meet the warmest, most gracious team of baristas - Hannah, Kendall and Kodi. Coffee is such a communal experience and this crew is unsurpassed and so fun to sit and visit with while you sip. This was one of the most delectable, unforgettable stops and one we will make a tradition in Coronado. I stopped in here after a bike ride and found some of the best cold brew I've ever had. Both the New Orleans and the Old Fashioned are delicious - balanced flavors, great coffee. Ick! My horchata cold brew and my husband's hot coffee were immediately trashed after our 2 sip-attempts. What a waste of $$. Cold brew should not be bitter, nor watered-down which it was both. The "horchata" flavoring was completely lacking - I saw cinnamon powder but zero flavor. Not sure how locals enjoy or rate it "best of 2022" - but I beg to differ. With all the wonderful coffee shops we have in Las Vegas and Henderson, NV I'm sure we're spoiled by the quality. True disappointment. read more

I love this little cute place. They have so many options of cold brews. They have a variety of milks available. You can add collagen to your coffee among other items. They offer military and first responder discounts. They have cold brew six packs. The decor is so cool makes me feel like I am on a ship. Best matcha ever had! They use ceremonial grade matcha from Japan, it's not super sweet but enough sweetness thats not over powering! The strawberry cold foam was just a finishing touch, but goes so well with the matcha! Worth the 35 min walk from the ferry gate, nice walk to the location for a chill afternoon. Wow! Ok, so when it comes to coffee shops there are no shortage of places to go especially in this town (I mean San Diego). And to be fair, there are a lot of really great places to go! But if you want really great coffee, great atmosphere and some really cool t-shirts, you must give this place a try! They literally have the best nitro cold brew I've ever had! And the selection of nitro cold brews they had on tap was amazing! I got their house special which was delicious! Don't have plans on making a trip to San Diego? Don't worry! You can order directly from them! But if you ever find yourself in San Diego, and you really like coffee, this place is worth the drive into Coronado Island! I even bought a t-shirt! You cannot get any better than amazing coffee that is a healthy alternative to the sugar laden stuff pumped out by the national giant! Keto friendly (for those into that), cold brew, or hot, black, or with alternative add ins (MCT oils etc). You can get a healthy kick without the sugar crash to keep you going all day. I'm omnivorous, I'll eat anything not nailed down; and have eaten from the street vendors in every country I've visited (gotta keep the immune system STRONG by attacking it...) The keto friendly and mostly vegan bakery items were enticing and looked amazing I didn't try any but watched a few folks buy to try and commented to the staff they were amazing... You cannot go wrong supporting Trident Coffee, amazing coffee, Local, Veteran owned, community involved. Meet the Business Owner: Eric J.

Serving as a Naval Officer, Eric Johnson started brewing his own cold brew coffee during his final tour of duty in Iraq. He noticed how coffee and tea act as a bridge between cultural differences. All of the chaos of conflict would pause between him and village elders for a brief moment while enjoying a nice cup of coffee or tea together. Two cultures born a world apart were communicating on so many levels without saying a word- that was it! Eric had found his calling and thus set out to create Trident Coffee Roasters.

It was so well balanced. It looked really sweet, but because of how balanced all the flavors were, it didn't actually taste overly sweet. I don't even like caramel and it was SO good in this. The outside was soft, and the toffee and pretzel inside gave it a nice crunch. I really liked the combination of the soft cake with the crunchy pretzel toffee. Wagyu Cheeseburger with fries (8.5/10) - The patty had a smoky, grilled type of flavor that was really yummy. It was a good portion and was made really well. The fries were also a decent addition as a side choice. Egg Sandwich (8.5/10) - Pretty basic, but really well made and put together. The bun was a bit toasted, so it wasn't super soft and had a slight crispness to it, which I liked. The flavors were really well balanced and it was honestly so good. Service: The best service! Even when it wasn't a staff member in charge of our table, we were frequently checked on and everyone was super attentive and conversational, which made the experience a lot more personal and better. I love being able to share a laugh and have a conversation with the staff. The staff member responsible for our table was Heider, and he was super attentive, helpful, conversational, and patient. We also loved meeting Sasha! She's super nice and conversational as well. Thank you for having us! Ambiance: Such a nice restaurant inside and outside. We got the patio high top seating and it was really nice. It was hot out, but the big umbrella helped. It's super busy, but it still felt nice outside, and everything looked super clean and aesthetic. Really nice vibes overall.

When I arrived, there was a very long line, but because my order had already been placed, I went to the designated pickup area. While waiting, I watched the employee behind the counter speak politely and normally to other customers. When it was my turn, I turned my phone around and politely said, "Hi, I'm here to pick up for" Before I could even finish my sentence, the employee looked at my phone, rolled his eyes, turned away from me, and went to retrieve the order. There was no greeting, no acknowledgment, and no basic courtesy. He handed me the order while staring at me, rolled his eyes again, and immediately returned to the register. The interaction was so noticeably hostile that I looked back at him and asked, "What's your problem?" He immediately turned away and began helping someone else. I then asked another employee whether there was a manager available and explained what had just happened. Her response was essentially that there was "a lot going on" and that they were busy. Being busy does not excuse treating a customer disrespectfully especially when I had just watched other customers receive normal, courteous service. What made this experience particularly concerning was what happened next. While I was still making sure my large order was complete, another customer approached the pickup area. The same employee who would not even allow me to finish my sentence immediately greeted this man with, "Hello, how can I help you?" and proceeded to speak to him politely and professionally. That was the exact basic courtesy I had been denied only moments earlier. As a Black woman, I cannot ignore that difference in treatment. I watched this employee demonstrate that he was perfectly capable of greeting customers, communicating professionally, and being courteous. He simply chose not to extend that same treatment to me. Based on what I personally witnessed, the disparity felt prejudicial and discriminatory. I then walked to the neighboring sister establishment to ask how I could contact management because I had not been provided helpful management information inside the coffee shop. Ironically, the employee I spoke with there was also Latino, and he treated me with complete respect. He listened, offered to get a manager, asked whether I was okay, and apologized that I had experienced something uncomfortable. That interaction is important because my complaint is not about anyone's ethnicity it is about the specific behavior of the employees who dealt with me at the coffee shop. What was also strange was that the coffee shop employees who had just explained that everything was so hectic suddenly had plenty of time to stand at the counter and watch me while I spoke with the neighboring business. They continued watching me until I got into my car. There had been an enormous line of customers, yet somehow the "too busy" explanation disappeared when it came time to watch what I was doing after I asked about management. That made an already uncomfortable situation feel even more hostile. The Smoking Gun needs to seriously evaluate who it places in customer-facing positions. Customers should not have to wonder whether their race affected the basic level of dignity and courtesy they received. If an employee is overwhelmed or having a bad day, take a break, ask for help, or work away from the front counter. What you do not do is selectively discard basic manners with one customer and then immediately demonstrate those same manners to the next. I came in to pick up coffee for a wedding. I was polite. I was there to collect an order and leave. There was absolutely no reason for me to be treated with hostility. I will be filing a formal complaint with management regarding this incident. I hope management takes it seriously, reviews what occurred, and provides its staff with appropriate customer-service and anti-discrimination training. No paying customer should be treated as though basic respect is optional. And yes, they can run the cameras back it'll be in there ! Then to ice the cake, they literally got the order wrong and didn't give me all the items for the party that I was taking it to! Could look me up and down but not look the orders up and down !

I had a truly disappointing experience at Trident Coffee. The place was not only unkempt, but I also noticed flies buzzing around, which was quite off-putting. The coffee itself was mediocre at best--definitely not worth the trip. To make matters worse, the service was incredibly slow and indifferent. What a COOL spot to stop at on Orange Ave! I love that they offer healthy pastry options like keto donuts AND nitro cold brew from the tap. As I was leaving the customer who had chatted with the barista for 20 minutes and wasted everyone's time got BACK IN LINE! If there are events in the area you need to STAFF ACCORDINGLY. Get your act together, this is an embarrassment to the Bird Rock name.
