Stopped by with some of my friends for a coffee before brunch! The atmosphere was nice, the people were friendly, and the menu was also explained to us! I ordered a Honey Lavender Latte, and I can't lie, it might've been one of the best coffees of my life!! It was super refreshing and the perfect sweetness. The lavender flavor was bright but not too strong, and I think the bee pollen on top was a fun touch. Even as the ice melted in my drink over time, the coffee didn't lose its flavor and I enjoyed every sip til my cup was empty :) GAH I can't wait to go back for more!!

Service was incredible. The young man who helped me was super hospitable and went above and beyond. Since it was my first time, he walked me through the menu, recommended their most popular drink which was the Son of a Sailor and even told me about their protein pastries and donuts. I ended up getting the protein coffee cake and a burrito. The coffee was great, the burrito was stuffed and actually nutritious, and the coffee cake was packed with nutrients too... maybe a little hard to swallow but still tasty overall. Awesome first experience I'll definitely be back

Very good coffee and a great spot to take a break. They have gluten free pastries and a nice selection of unique cold brew drinks that are definitely worth trying. The protein bar was also delicious.

The coffee was very good! I usually don't like coffee too much but their horchata drink was perfectly sweet. The drink did take a lot longer to make than I expected but it's a small shop with minimal staff so it makes sense. Cute interior and small seating area

My family and I were staying at the Hotel del Coronado for the week and we wanted to find a local coffee shop for breakfast. Trident Coffee came highly recommended, but sadly it did not hit the mark for us. We ended up going to Better Buzz the following days for our coffee and breakfast fix. This place is not cheap for a quick brekkie and coffee. I ordered the Daily Rations Cold Brew with Cold Foam ($7.70) and a Breakfast Burrito ($13.95) which came out piping hot. The burrito is not hefty by any means, but this is Coronado and not San Diego proper so I don't hold that against them. Think of it as more of a wrap. My one complaint about the burrito is that the filing is chopped up and coated in sauce so it's just a mushy experience (see picture). I was stoked when I read that it included hash brown, but since it wasn't a whole crispy hash brown, you couldn't tell the hash brown from the egg or the sausage coated in the cheesy sauce. I hate to say it, but it just tasted sloppy. The 2 gentlemen working are passionate about their craft and very friendly. This place is popular with the locals and military community and I respect that. They do offer a military discount for those eligible. Thank you to all who have served and are currently serving. I'm glad I visited and supported a local business, but this place just wasn't for me.

My pittie, Cali, and I popped into this adorable coffee spot on Friday afternoon. I'd just gotten some gelato down the street & Cali was feeling a little left out of treat time, so we were in search of a pup cup! We bopped into Trident Coffee which is one of the cutest coffee shops I've ever seen! Cool nautical looking light fixtures, an Octopus mascot keeping watch over the place & lots of interesting coffee, tea & nibbles options. There are a few chairs inside & few tables/chairs outside as well. The kindest barista ever was so excited to see us, especially Cali, and he made us feel so welcome. He kindly offered her a pup cup and he delightedly gave it to her. Cali loved every aspect of this interaction & I really appreciated how nice he was to my pup. This interaction really warmed my heart so much and I will definitely stop by again the next time I'm in Coronado! Mahalo!

Solid choice for a coffee fix. We tried the salted caramel cold brew and hazelnut latte. I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the cold brew coffee was. Usually I'm not a fan of cold brew because I like my coffee a little more on the creamier side. Very unique flavors. Service was also good. They have military discount as well. We didn't see the sign until after we've already paid. But good to know!

super cool store known for their specialty cold brews! we tried the Honey Lavender Latte and Blackberry Cobbler Latte, and they certainly add enough cream/ flavor that they taste more like lattes, but with the cold brew bases. drinks weren't insanely sweet, definitely recommend if you want to be adventurous!

My friend wanted to go for a birthday run in Coronado. I wanted coffee right after the run which was something I looked forward to as I pushed myself to finish the run LOL. I found this shop with a variety of cold brew options which also included nitro cold brews on the tap! As a coffee drinker, I definitely had to check it out. The location that we went to is located next to some local shops on Orange Ave in "downtown" Coronado. There's a lot of free street parking around the area but could get very hectic and almost impossible to find during holiday season, dinner hours, and weekends. My boyfriend and I wanted to try their cold brew flight, however, they only had 2 sets for the flights which was already taken by another couple. Whaaat sad. Instead, I got their New Orleans Cold Foam, one of the cold brews, annnnd it was kind of sour. It was kind of confusing, giving sweetish taste but with the sourness kept overcoming the coffee bitterness that I was looking for. I personally don't like sour cold brews but that's my own preference. Some people might enjoy them sour, but I don't think they should be sour... However, my friend and boyfriend both liked it though. My boyfriend got their Mexican Mocha, not sweet at all surprisingly! It was quite good, and the aesthetics of the drink were beautiful! Definitely a lot better than the one I got. I was bummed that I couldn't try their cold brew flight but after trying the New Orleans Cold Foam, I was a bit glad that we didn't. Maybe it was a one off day where their cold brew was steeping too long... I definitely will give it another go in the future to try their flight in the future though.

I got the trident cold brew with oat milk and my bf got the turmeric latte with oat milk. Usually i am a fan of sweeter milky coffee drinks but i was pleasantly surprised with my cold brew drink! It was very smooth and didn't taste bitter at all. Normally I add sweetness to my drinks but the cold brew was super refreshing on its own without any sweetness. The turmeric latte was sweet and had a cinnamon taste and my bf loved it as well. Would love to come back the next time I am visiting Coronado!!

I'm a cold brew kind of guy. Trident is a big W for me because they offer several varieties of cold brew, fancied up versions with added flavors and sweeteners and even cold brew flights. Swoooooon. Quaint little shop right in the thick of it on Orange Ave in Coronado. Close to the beach, tons of people watching and very walkable. Clean establishment and friendly service.

Great cold brew with unique flavors in each. Son of a son of a sailor (cinnamon) is my favorite, but all are good. The keto bakery items are tasty and filling. On a quick getaway with the wife for an early Valentines Day date. Found this place on Yelp and walked past Better Buzz and Starbucks to get here in the rain. Great choice! The honey lavender latte and americano that we got were super delicious. The branding in this place is insane! The art director who created their merch did a great job. I was so excited to try some coffee from an independent shop. Because of the latish hour, I got 3/4 decaf and a quarter regular cold brew-- delicious and still had plenty of caffeine. I haven't had a donut since high school---because it is perhaps one of the worst thing you could eat. When I saw that they not only had keto donuts but were infused with protein, I HAD to try one. I was hesitant about trying the coconut one with a chocolate drizzle, because I thought it would taste too sweet. Much to my pleasant surprise-- it wasn't! Yay! Wow-- it was so delicious! There are a lot of options for coffee shops in Coronado but from the moment I stepped into this cute little spot I knew I'd never have to look any further. Trident is officially my go to spot in Coronado. Their nitro cold brew has me hooked but it's the coffee combined with the amazing service I receive anytime I go there is what has me coming back for more. I was blessed by the coffee Gods and have had Yesenia as my barista. She always knows what to recommend to wake me up & bring me back to life!! Really disappointed in this spot after multiple attempts to give them the benefit of the doubt. The overall atmosphere and attitude of the workers are Awsome but there coffees are not Good! I tried the cans from fridge and they lack flavor. Their peanut butter and banana keto, I was so stoked for only to be let down had tasted very bitter and nasty not even one sip of peanut butter and banana flavor in my mouth such a let down i had to toss it in trash . Tried their taps. Same thing and their keto bagles. Got the jalapeño chedder. Ewww it tasted spongey and grosss. I know they mean good but I'm sorry I rather stick to Dark Horse or hawthorn coffee at least their cold brews are on point :). read more

Let me start off by saying the only coffee I drink is cold brew so I was very excited to try this place when traveling to SD. I was not let down. Small little shop but the cold brew was the best I've ever had (and I've had a ton). I ordered the Trident cold brew and it was so smooth. I swung by after a run and had a great experience! It was my first time in their newly opened space and I was immediately greeted by the girls inside. Since it was my first time with so many cold brew choices on tap, I spoke to the girl ( I'm sorry I didn't get her name ) and answered her questions about the type of coffee and taste I like. From there she was able to recommend a cold brew for me to try. And she was spot on! It was super delicious and incredibly smooth. I was sold! I appreciate the friendliness and helpfulness of the employees and the quality coffee they have to offer. I will be back soon! read more

Cool little coffee house with cold brews on tap, but I came in for a cappuccino as I prefer traditional hot coffee in the morning. I didn't expect the cappuccino to have a prominent chocolate flavor from the beans. Truly a remarkable cappuccino. I ended up buying a few bags of coffee to go and a cool cap to sport around. And the barista was very cool and knowledgeable. He gave a sample of cold brew from tap. Really cool you can try before you buy. Worth a stop and do more than just smell the coffee when in Coronado. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Eric J.

Serving as a Naval Officer, Eric Johnson started brewing his own cold brew coffee during his final tour of duty in Iraq. He noticed how coffee and tea act as a bridge between cultural differences. All of the chaos of conflict would pause between him and village elders for a brief moment while enjoying a nice cup of coffee or tea together. Two cultures born a world apart were communicating on so many levels without saying a word- that was it! Eric had found his calling and thus set out to create Trident Coffee Roasters.

I brought this to an employee's attention, expecting at least some acknowledgment or concern. Instead, she simply responded, "I know they're in there." There was no apology, no explanation, and she did not seem concerned about the issue at all. Seeing flies inside a closed food display is already unpleasant, but the casual response from the employee made the experience even more disappointing. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses the sanitation issue, as well as how concerns like this are handled with customers.

Molten Butter Cake (10/10) - This dessert is an angel food cake with pretzel toffee and caramel inside, then it goes in the oven to get warm before being brought out and topped with vanilla bean gelato and caramel. It was so well balanced. It looked really sweet, but because of how balanced all the flavors were, it didn't actually taste overly sweet. I don't even like caramel and it was SO good in this. The outside was soft, and the toffee and pretzel inside gave it a nice crunch. I really liked the combination of the soft cake with the crunchy pretzel toffee. The bun was a bit toasted, so it wasn't super soft and had a slight crispness to it, which I liked. The flavors were really well balanced and it was honestly so good. Service: The best service! Even when it wasn't a staff member in charge of our table, we were frequently checked on and everyone was super attentive and conversational, which made the experience a lot more personal and better. I love being able to share a laugh and have a conversation with the staff. The staff member responsible for our table was Heider, and he was super attentive, helpful, conversational, and patient. We also loved meeting Sasha! She's super nice and conversational as well. Thank you for having us! Ambiance: Such a nice restaurant inside and outside. We got the patio high top seating and it was really nice. It was hot out, but the big umbrella helped. It's super busy, but it still felt nice outside, and everything looked super clean and aesthetic. Really nice vibes overall.

As I was leaving the customer who had chatted with the barista for 20 minutes and wasted everyone's time got BACK IN LINE! If there are events in the area you need to STAFF ACCORDINGLY. Get your act together, this is an embarrassment to the Bird Rock name.

Had high hopes for the matcha latte and breakfast burrito but unfortunately both were pretty bad in my opinion. Matcha latte- wayyy too sweet. Asked if there is any syrup they said no but the matcha was premade with sugar already. Doesn't taste like high quality matcha, but covered with sugar so you can't taste it. Breakfast burrito was premade and delivered in the morning which is fine. But when they reheat it it was soaked in oil before they put in oven and it's like a deep fried burrito. Can't taste any real eggs. Looks drastically different than the photos posted. Overall a very disappointing experience.

I'll start with the positives: the coffee was pretty average, but the price wasn't too bad. They also have a great selection of breakfast sandwiches and pastries, and the outdoor patio is a nice spot to sit and enjoy your coffee. That being said, I do think there are a few areas where this coffee shop could improve, especially when it comes to customer service. Unfortunately, the atmosphere didn't feel particularly warm or inviting. Several of the employees seemed to simply stare at customers rather than greeting them or offering any assistance. With coffee and dining out becoming more expensive, I think customer service can really make a difference in whether someone chooses to come back. When employees take the time to get to know their regular customers, make recommendations, or simply make you feel welcomed, it adds so much more value to the experience. Overall, Portal has some great food options, a nice patio, and reasonably priced coffee, but I think improving the customer service and creating a more welcoming atmosphere would make a big difference.

It was always consistent in quality and quantity. I always debate on getting two drinks every time I come because it is only 4 times a year I get coffee from here. The food is always yummy too! I usually just get a bagel! OVERALL: The highlight of my July and of SDCC in general. They are the real MVPs!
