Went here for a Saturday morning breakfast. I ordered a ham and swiss cheese omelette and my boyfriend ordered the desayuno special with fried eggs. The server asked multiple times which type of eggs. They brought out an omelette with ham lunch meat and cheese wiz and the desayuno with scrambled eggs instead. Regardless of the mistakes, the food was very poor quality. We let the server Darlyn know about the mistakes and asked to have more coffee to make up for it. She was completely rude to us and said they couldn't give us a refill on the coffee. She brought out waters and basically threw them on the table. Then when the bill wasn't correct I showed her and she actually aggressively ripped the check out of my hand. I have never experienced anything like this and was absolutely appalled by the service altogether and would not recommend this place. read more

Great customer service! We got seated right away and ordered fajitas de pollo, tres carne revuelto, papa rellena and empanadas de pollo. Our meals came with free coffee. So we ordered Cortadito and cafe con leche. Cortadito was sweet yumminess. Cafe con leche was ok as latte goes. Our meals were huge. Fajitas de pollo was tender but the sauce was on the sweet side. Tres carne came with pancakes, sausages, bacon, mini steaks, scramble eggs and fries. Both pancakes and eggs were fluffy. Mini steaks were a little dried & salty. Cuban food is a vital part of Miami's food culture so naturally it's dispersed throughout every neighborhood as a true representation of how we eat around here. We ordered a Cuban sandwich here and a morning Colada accompanied by orange juice and two croquetas as we started our day. It is very inexpensive and filling which is perfect for sharing. Plenty of Cuban traditionally favorited foods are sold here. The gratuity is included so check your receipt beforehand to avoid doubling the amount. Parking isn't always the best here but meter spots do tend to show up periodically. It's within walking distance to many of the hotels nearby making it a chill spot to come have a deliciously prepared meal in a warm and welcoming Cuban spot steps from the beach. I have been here twice now. After two shots I can say that the service is horrible, food has no flavor. I came in for breakfast on a Monday late morning which they serve until noon daily. However, they don't even acknowledge you when you walk in (unless you are a regular, then they are quick to give you a hug and seat you asap). Food - The portions are large. I ordered scrambled eggs and sausage. The eggs were super well done (last time they were actually fluffy and soft and were decent) with no seasoning at all, along with bland fries and sausage. My coffee had someone's hair in it (yikes). Service - Watch out for the really tan shorter scary lady, with a stank face, black hair, a bun on her head. She will make fun of patrons, roll her eyes constantly and bad mouth you in Spanish. I dealt with her both times unfortunately in unpleasant ways. When I came in I was waiting for a while and I asked if there was a wait? She barked "just sit anywhere open seating, then she rolled her eyes! I was shocked. This is how you greet customers? She served me too :( I waited forever to order and then was disappointed with the quality and flavorless food. I came to the restaurant on my lunch break and what started off good ended up a nightmare. I was looking at 2 choices of the menu was the grilled filled fish and the breaded fillet fish. I asked the waitress what type of fish and she told me. I told her I would like to order the bread fish fillet, the waitress said ok and put my order in. I finally got my food and something didn't look right. I ate a couple bites from the fish and was like no this can't be bread fish fillet. I called the waitress over and said is this bread fish fillet and she said yeah, which I knew this wasn't bread and I called for the waitress again and another one said it was grilled. I told the waitress that I told you specifically that I wanted bread fish fillet and she apologized and walked away. After 5 minutes, I called her over and said are yall going to make it over with and she said no you have to pay for it. I said let me speak to your manager. Of course she went to the manager to make it look like I was the bad guy. The manager came to me VERY RUDE basically told me that I shouldn't have taking a bit out of it. They started saying things in Spanish and I told them I don't speak Spanish and then she called some guy to translate. I told him forget about because they wasn't hearing me nor care about my side of the story and I just paid for the meal. A waste of $17.62 for some unflavored grilled fish and soggy ass French fries and bland wrinkle salad. This was my first time coming here and I'm never coming back. The food socks, customer service socks and overall it was a terrible experience. Please don't waste your time and money dining here. Please avoid this place. I beg Please. This place is right downstairs of my building so it can be really convenient on those lazy weekends when I don't feel like cooking. I love their passion fruit juice and they make good coffee. Not to be offensive, but as an American, I found it hard to understand the waitress, but if you can stumble your way through your order, it sort of adds to the experience. And the best part: prices are great! That being said...the good things end there. The food when it finally comes is average at best. And given that it took all of 30 minutes for the food to come AFTER I ORDERED, your appetite is ruined by the disappointing food. And to top it all off, the space. God the space. I'm a small person and struggled when I was stuck in a corner spot with a plant in my face. If you're out of options for the night, this isn't an awful choice. The service was a little confusing as I wasn't sure if I was supposed to order from the counter or a table for take-out (they seemed to prefer the table) and where I was supposed to pay (now they preferred the counter...). When I first went up to pay, I actually was totally ignored which was a little awkward... The coffee with milk I got was very good but the chicken I ordered was just okay. I really liked the onion-cilantro-y "dressing," salad, and fried plantains but the meal overall was just okay... This place was recommended by our hotel. We arrived on a red eye so we were ready for breakfast. We arrived at 8.30am after their posted opening time of 8am. The "Open" sign was on and yet there were no lights on, doors were locked and nobody was inside. We knocked on the window and got no response. I am not sure if this is an overall Miami attitude of opening whenever one feels like or just a Hispanic "mañana" attitude, but I find it rude to not be open during posted hours. What got me to write the review is when I called and asked if they were open the man said yes and that they opened at 8am. Where I come from that's called a lie. Came here directly from the airport to try my first Café Con Leche. By the end of my week-long trip to Florida I probably had 10-12 Café Con Leches/Café Cubanos and the one I had here still ended up being the best by a long shot. I ordered at the counter and the lady could not have been more helpful answering all my questions about the different types of coffee/milk combinations (there are quite a few so it can be confusing to differentiate). I settled on the Café Con Leche and then ordered a couple random little things from the bakery case. The Café Con Leche came as a mug of steamed milk and then a little metal pitcher of the espresso which was thick as syrup and STRONG. You just pour it into the milk and voila! I was bouncing all over the place afterwards. I didn't see it served this way anywhere else on my trip unfortunately. The snacks I ordered weren't as impressive, but still good. I got a potato ball which was a fried little ball with potato and some kind of seasoned meat (chorizo or beef) in the middle and then a ham croquet which is a little fried stick that looks like a mozzarella stick but is filled with ham and cheese...I preferred the potato ball to the croquet, but both were good little intros to Cuban cuisine. I will definitely be back here for Café Con Leche and to have an actual meal here next time I'm in Miami! read more

Cheap, Cuban food... Simple, no frills cafe located a block away from our hotel (las palms hotel and spa). The service was quick, food was cheap and tasty and I was surprised by the big portions. There's seating outside and inside. Cuban croquette sandwich- The bread was crunchy and the croquettes oozed with cheese. My sister really enjoyed this. Roasted pork with peppers, onions, yellow rice, beans and tostones. The pork reminded me of carnitas, crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. This was a great plate and I recommend if you like your pork cooked this way. I'd come back again if I was near and if you are staying at the palms hotel, def. stop by since it's so close. read more

We are staying at a nearby hotel and found this little gem through yelp. It was about .2 mile from our hotel. It has a small seating area but full service wait staff. The waitress was extremely helpful with answering my questions since I am not all too familiar with some of the dishes. It could be consider a true local restaurant (aka hole in the wall) eatery. Those seem to be our favorite choices when we travel. It was busy but we were waited on quickly and the food came immediately. I ordered the chorizo sandwich and my DH ordered the Miami sandwich. Our drinks were iced tea (canned) and berry lemonade. Both sandwiches were great but we agrees my chorizo was better. The fries were typical fries. We paid roughly $25 for lunch right on Miami Beach South. It's the perfect casual choice for a quick fantastic meal at a reasonable price. read more

The place is very small but since there were quite a few people in there eating, we decided it was worth a try. ***NOTE***: They only serve breakfast if you go between 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. so make sure if you want to try their lunch menu, go after 12 p.m. I wanted to try something from the lunch menu but the server told me they are only doing breakfast (time of my visit to this place: 11:15 a.m.) Butter Toast/Bread: These were surprisingly pretty good, considering how simple it is: Butter in between a stack of long toast/bread. Ham Omelette (comes with Fries and Coffee): Stacks of ham inside egg omelette. Nothing more. Tasted like something I could cook up at my own house, which isn't very good. Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice: This was one of the highlights at this place. Tasted very fresh and comes with ice on the side, if you want to make it colder. Cafe Con Leche: Comes as a hot milk and cuban espresso on the side. I would say this was very good! You can put a lot of espresso or less, depending on your preference. Each table also has sugar that you can put inside. Service: With so many people cramped inside a little space and not "enough" servers, it took a long time to get all of our meals and to even pay for our meals once we were done eating. The staff was friendly, just NOT SPEEDY. Originally, I had it at 2-star rating but the cafe con leche, freshly squeezed orange juice, and cheap price sold me on giving this place a 3-star rating. read more

It's another 5 star review--but that's what a place deserves when you combine excellent customer service with delicious authentic Cuban cuisine. We came here last night and had an experience that took us to cuisine heaven. I had the pork medallions and my husband had the tomato pork steak and we shared a small Cuban sandwich--the result, two full bellies and the waitress shaking her head saying, "I told you two it would be a lot of food!" But it was worth it. Today, on the breakfast menu the husband got breakfast special. The 3 meat breakfast special--not only does it come with bacon, ham and sausage--it has a side order of pancakes and fries. I'm still full from last night...so I had them make me a special mango smoothie. Again, the staff is beyond friendly and has only one thing on their mind "providing great customer service" and serving up amazing food. We decided to try this place for breakfast. When we first sat down the server was a bit abrupt, but she got better as the meal went on. I had an omelette and my friend had the pancakes. The omelette was unique in its shape and thickness but the taste was good, it was served with fries which were actually the best part of the plate. Their coffee is excellent and worth visiting for that alone. If you want a reasonably priced breakfast you should check this place out. I'd come again. read more

I came across here after trying to eat at Cantina 27 (and Italian joint that's apparently only open for dinner). For the price, this place is really a steal. And on top of that, I think this definitely offers one of the best, if not the best, Cuban in South Beach (even though it's really a few blocks north of 23rd Street, the northern border of South Beach). The pastelitos de guayaba y queso was very good, which surprised me considering it's not even a bakery. And really, it was finger-licking good. And I can't really say that for some of the same pastelitos back in mainland Miami. I didn't order the sandwiches (and I doubt the bread is made in-house, but I can't be sure), but I had the vaca frita and everything was right on. I also had the milanesa de pollo (topped with tomato sauce, ham and cheese), and that was big and huge. For diner Cuban food, this place satisfied my Cuban craving. Even all of the desserts here are pre-made in-house. The flan was yummy (although I saw one that hasn't been chilled appropriately - but the flavor was just right). Just make sure it's not slushy. It's supposed to be firm! So for tourists looking for Cuban food in South Beach, I really suggest them to ignore Puerto Sagua, David's and other Cuban joints and head a few blocks north for something a little bit better and fresher. The locals already dominate this place and it was packed even on a weekday during lunchtime around 1 pm. Only con: the menu is relatively limited comparing with other Cuban joints, but there's still plenty to choose from. read more

This was my first stop upon arriving in Miami. Had been here previously before and was looking forward to eating a lechon sandwich and some good breakfast. From the minute they open this place slowly starts to get busy especially if coming around lunch and dinner time. It's located right on Collins Ave in the heart of the hotels and boutiques which explains why it gets busy. The lechon sandwich is filled with fresh juicy Pernil on top of toasted Cuban bread. A little under $9 this sandwich is worth it and completely filling! It's a sandwich that you can split with someone or if on an empty stomach eat up the whole thing! I also had a chicken empanada which I found to be really salty. The crust itself was great but the chicken was a little too over seasoned for my liking. This was a little hidden gem away from the scene on Collins Ave. This place gives off a homey feel that I knew the food will be good. Complimentary bread was served before your meal. A few of my friends ordered the steak chimichurri and couldn't stop talking about it! The chimichurri sauce gave the steak a little kick with flavor and spice. I ordered the special which was the fish...I can't remember what kind of fish it was as this was during Labor Day weekend. Anyways, I just remembered that the fish was baked and cooked perfectly. I love the portion size of the plates! The food was fresh and delicious! The girl that served us was very kind, although the food took awhile to get to our table but it was all worth it.
