So good!!! Finally some yummy Jamaican food in my neighborhood! First off, the store is located in a quaint little plaza you could easily miss if you weren't paying attention, but the parking lot is very convenient and there were plenty of spots available! The vibes inside super cute in the restaurant with the inviting colors and reggae music. And the staff was so extremely friendly and gave such a warm aura, it felt almost like family! I ordered the jerk chicken in a large and let me tell you, for $30 the portion is HUGE. It's enough for your lunch and dinner combined. So personally I think there is a ton of value in the meal. Now to the food - The flavors are sooo delicious. I had oxtail gravy on top of the rice and it was the best decision and I highly recommend it! The gravy was so hearty, savory, and simply a 10/10. The chicken wasn't dry to me, and when paired with the jerk sauce, it was the perfect combination. The spice level of the sauce was a solid medium as well and such a delicate balance between sweet, spicy, and everything in between! Another day, another disappointing Jamaican food experience. I'm always looking to find a go to spot for this cuisine that I enjoy, but it's hard to find one that hits right for me. I had seen this restaurant advertised on yelp so I made the hour drive here. It definitely wasn't worth it even with it being my first meal of the day. Spent $160 and I didn't enjoy the food or experience overall. I ordered ahead online on my way there and still ended up waiting another additional 30 minutes past my pickup time. I think they could have offered a drink or some extra sauces on the side for the inconvenience. Ordered a bunch of food to see if they could deliver on my favorites. I had the jerk chicken, oxtail, rasta pasta, beef patty, and sides of fried chicken, plantain and festival. Everything was edible but does not compare to the good Jamaican food I've had elsewhere. To start, the patty was flaky but not crispy and the filling could have used more seasoning. Festival and plantain were standard but soaked in a lot more grease. Fried chicken was horrible. It tasted like fried chicken you get at a buffet that's been sitting under the heat lamp all day. The chicken was dry and the batter was stale. Honestly tasted like it was a day old and reheated. First time trying rasta pasta and expected something different. I looked it up before ordering and thought it would be like a creamy pasta with Jamaican spice and seasonings. This pasta just tasted like Alfredo with bell pepper and shrimp. Onto the main dishes... Jerk chicken was extremely disappointing. I ordered the "large" size for both. Jerk chicken was $30 and there were literally only 3 small pieces of chicken. The chicken was bone dry and didn't have a sauce and was bland. This also did not taste like it was freshly made. Oxtail plate was also another disappointment. The large being $37 a plate wtf? I swear there was only 5-6 pieces that were tiny and majority bone. The flavor of the oxtail gravy was okay and the vegetable side was seasoned. I cannot believe how ripped off I feel with this place. I understand they recently opened, but this kind of food and service is what you'd expect from a business that's on decline after numerous years. I really wouldn't recommend wasting your time here. As somebody who has been to Jamaica 20+ times, I'm always keeping an eye out for some good jerk chicken and this place does not disappoint. I got the side order of jerk chicken, which came as four pieces and they were just lovely! There are a lot of different jerk recipes and you will often not be quite sure what you're gonna get until you try it, but this jerk chicken was fantastic hitting all the points, spicy, but not too spicy and with just the right amount of allspice in the jerk mix to give it that authentic taste. The location is a little scrappy and I got my chicken to go, but the folks working seemed very nice and friendly. The only downside is the prices, which aren't bad, considering other Jamaican restaurants, but is hard to stomach when you're used to thinking of that food dish at the price where it originated, which is never the same as here... all that said, the chicken was fantastic and I will be back! read more

So good !! Got the jerk chicken with rice, beans, cabbage, peppers, and Plantains. The spice level was perfect and the plantains were sooooo good. They have a bunch of different sauces for the rice which were very tasty. I'm rooting for Tropical Fiyah and was excited to give it a try since we don't have any other Jamaican restaurants in the area. I would love to come regularly but the prices here are a little high! So I'm not sure that I'll be able to come as often as I'd like, but I def look forward to treating myself to Tropical Fiyah whenever I get the chance. read more

Got the food back to the room and dug in! The cabbage was nice! Sautéed well while still keeping a nice crunch. The oxtails were cool. Good texture and the goat curry was decent. The thing that both of these were lacking is depth of flavor. It has good taste, but the flavor isn't full. It's like they used a pressure cooker to get the meat tender instead of slow cooking the food. Still tasty nonetheless. The festival was on point! Must have to complete the meal! The peas and rice was perfect! Good flavor and the rice was properly cooked! I've the rice under cooked at other places and that's just disappointing! All in all, a must try! Now... Jamaican food is known for its "jerk!" I'm accustomed to jerk being a particular way. Spicy with heat! The sauce here was more sweet and sour! Disappointing! That's the basis of the foods culture! In town for a conference and my group wanted oxtails. They were open on Monday (yay!) and open late enough for us to go. It's a very clean place adorned with bright colors, good dancehall, reggae, and afrobeat playing in a nice corner of a strip mall. Great customer service that included kindly offering oxtail gravy on the rice and peas that accompanied the oxtail entree. Along with delicious, tender, meaty and gravy rich oxtails, it came with delicious cabbage, the delicious and rice and peas, and perfectly tender plantain slices with a slight hint of crisp caramelization. We were so full and pleased. Some of us made another great call by deciding to have their in-house made pineapple-ginger juice. We just moved to the neighborhood My husband and I were looking for a Jamaican spot, and to our surprise we found a Tropical Fayah and I have to say that the food there is amazing. The first plate that we tried was the jerk chicken with festival and it was a dish that brought us back three more times lol we also tried the salmon plate, the oxtail platt, and the brown stew plate. I think personally my favorite was the jerk chicken. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of it because I was so hungry I just dove in lol but here I'm posting a picture of the brown stew that I had yesterday and it was the bomb! I'm plant based so the plant based options are limited but there are vegan patties, rice and peas and cabbage I think. More vegetarian and vegan options might be a good idea using plant based protein options. That styrofoam is killing us all these microplastics and hot food...nah, it's always turned me off from a lot of establishments. I was please to see how it was served. I accidentally found this spot on Yelp, and I thank God I did. It is extremely difficult to find authentic Jamaican food but we found some today. Oh and then I returned the next day with more people. This is a small spot at the intersection of Hollywood and LaBrea. It doesn't have a huge parking lot but it's worth it. I ordered the oxtails, jerk chicken, curry goat, plantains, coconut rice and peas, cabbage, chicken and beef patties and festival bread. Nothing was bad. The oxtails I think may be the best I've had in LA, especially the way they almost fall off the bone. I wouldn't hate have only wished for one thing which is that the jerk was made on the wood pieces like they do in Jamaica. Theirs is very deeply marinated and delicious, but it's missing the smoke and color on the skin. But I'm still going to order that spicy goodness again. They are new. Really good Jamaican food in the heart of Hollywood, but with a price tag to match. It is probably the most I have ever paid for Jamaican food, even in more formal full service restaurants. It is not a place I could come to very often with $7 beef patties and $25 (small--large is $30) jerk, curry or brown stew chicken entrees. Bottled sodas are $5. The atmosphere unfortunately does not match the price point, as there is none.
