About Burlington, NC location: Recently I really wanted a Watermelon smoothie. So I went to my app and ordering took me a long time...the app is NOT user friendly. Couldn't order a smoothie and a 1/2 sandwich, and I didn't want a whole sandwich. Finally managed to order my smoothie and I got there and got in line. Young employees were going down the line taking orders and a girl told me to wait in line I was in line 35 minutes! Then when I got to the window, I was told to wait again. I finally went in the store and asked about it. The employees could not find it. So one young lady offered to make me a smoothie if I would tell her what I want in it. I told her to forget it at this point and cancel my order. She couldn't do that - had to have a supervisor. A supervisor came over and told me they could make a smoothie in 20 seconds! Service was absolutely horrible! The mangers were very rude and had too much attitude when I was telling them about a simple problem. They were very unprofessional. And I feel so bad for their co workers, they treated them like trash or prisoner. I saw one of the managers tell one of the workers to do something, when she was already busy and had so much other stuff to do, to see him just chilling and being on his phone when he could be helping her. So I placed online order for 1 kid and 2 adult size smoothies- Avacoloda and watermelon moijito both added fat burners and energizer. Only the Avaco was supposed to be sub splendia. We picked up maybe 10 mins after said would be ready so we already expected a bit of melt. Both adult drink were basically no sugar and watered. The watermelon was bad tasting but palatable. Avacolado was a no go. So we turned back to get a redo only on the one smoothie. Upon return no one was eager to see why I was returning with a cup. A lady with different color shirt- assumed it was manager in red- Stepped up and told her my situation and all I had in my drink. I stepped aside to wait and watched her go back. I got lost looking out windows and she surprised me when I saw her approaching again within 5 mins. I should have known was too quick. I said my thank yous and exited.That was a mistake. I didn't even get what I asked her for. A whole different drink. And still no good! I'm upset because I returned and I was super respectful to staff when presented the issue and patiently waited. I feel like she shrugged me off and just handed whatever was green and made on counter due to it being watered too.I understand life is tough right now that's why I made sure I didn't make anyone feel any kind of way. I didn't go in there and act up. It's a smoothie. I just wanted to enjoy what I paid for and when I think about how I was treated and it actually makes me upset. Basically Subway quality food at Panera Bread prices. I ordered the new Hawaiian BBQ sandwich thing and a raspberry smoothie. The smoothie tasted watered down like it had too much ice. The sandwich was okay enough to eat half of, but I didn't like it. The staff was not friendly. She kinda stared at me for a moment before mumbling "what can I get for you?" This is by far the worst experience I've ever had. I've been to this location multiple times and for some reason something always goes wrong but this time did it for me. We pulled up to the drive through at 6:15pm. The girl in the drive through didn't come through the intercom until 6:24pm to inform us they were closed. We then stated to the girl that we had already been in line for 10 minutes and the website states that the store closes at 6:30pm. The girl then dismissed us very rudely and said they were closed for the day. Most of the staff is always super rude and disrespectful. They all have attitudes. Food and smoothies are really very good, everything is reasonably priced. I went in and had experienced some very long wait times (over 20 min) and a bit of inefficiency. As soon as Patrick (the manager) heard of it, he immediately told me that changes were in order. He even added breakfast to the menu because so many people asked for it! He and his staff are always friendly and happy to help. I suggest the Island Green smoothie, Jamaican Jerk Wrap or Southwest Chicken breakfast wrap. The first time I went, I sat in the drive thru for 20 minutes for one smoothie. The second time, I walked in, no one greeted me, and I stood at the counter waiting for someone to take my order for about five minutes. I watched all four workers looking at me while they sat at the counter, sipped on their drinks, and gossiped with one another. When one FINALLY acknowledged I was standing there, the one male worker walked up to the counter and basically said he didn't take my order because I was standing in front of the correct register. I tried the Caesar salad and blimey limey smoothie, both were pretty good; especially the salad. I have never written a review on yelp in my life and I'm on it constantly. This place has good food but it is so bad when it comes to wait time you honestly should not ever come here. The staff is also extremely rude and are 100% the cause of all of this. I have a 30 minute lunch break for work and was in the drive thru line for 25 (only 3 cars in front of me). The staff could absolutely care less, this is supposed to be a fast food place and their menu mirrors that, but I could honestly eat at Olive Garden next door faster. This particular Tropical Smoothie really needs some help by way of customer service. Every single employee was monotone to the point of hateful. No one said hello or "we will be right with you" although they had two customers in the store and one in the drive through. We sat down and our meals were brought. My order was wrong and my boyfriend's was right. They continued to work on new orders and took more orders before they corrected mine- with no apologies. My boyfriend sat there for 17 minutes (timed) before they brought my correct meal. Also, the manager Kwanto or Kwanta was absolutely unprofessional and rude. He wore shorts sagging below his butt which left a good view of his red underwear. He took out order initially and didn't say welcome in or that'll be out soon. I try to give this location a chance because it is close to work, but EVERY time I go for the past 2-3 months it has been incredibly slow!! I ordered online and went to pick it up, even past the time I asked for, and my food was STILL not ready. Then they told me that they were out of something needed to make my sandwich. Ok, fine. Then they asked me what else I wanted so I order that. There is only 1 other person in the restaurant and 6 workers, and 1 car in the drive-thru. It literally took them 35 minutes to make my 1 wrap. So, I proceed back to work and open my wrap and there is a long blonde hair in my wrap, that is clearly not mine. I've called at least 10-15 times and no one is answering the phone. It seemed to be high school kids or very young adults working. I saw two employees eating and then get up and go behind the counter and come back and sit down and eat. I am truly over this location. Amazing Customer Service from Boris M (I believe it was Borris - The man with the West African accent). Very fast order placement. I had my smoothie and sandwich in the matter of minutes. Apparently when John commented back to Jillian, he forgot to actually talk to his crew, my mom and I went through there today, she wanted to try it. I went in Sunday to try them out. I had a coupon, from the Burlington Times-News, for any grilled flat bread sandwich for $2.99. The lady at the register told me that they do not honor their coupons and she showed me a note from the manager telling her not to accept any coupons. My 2 cents: When It comes to interactions between coworkers in the workplace, I honestly have NO problem when employees, as far as I can tell, are able to joke around casually and shoot the breeze with each other. I've been there, done that, and I understand that whole dynamic. However--at some point, you should keep some degree of self-awareness. There is a time and place for everything. This was maybe a month back* But --when you have a loud and boisterous individual (I think an off duty employee) who is continuously distracting and talking to employees (specifically, in charge of all the food orders at the time) about ridiculous drama, making obnoxious comments towards the other employee, cursing while taking about what's going to happen at so and so's party and getting drunk together later, walking back and forth between the area where the food is being prepared and the table areas, in street clothes, just to continue with the same conversation while seemingly flirting and playing around, it becomes hard to not find the whole situation and experience severely lacking in just about every way. With this type of behavior during business hours and customers watching and hearing everything, it was just way too much. Respect goes a long way. The other employees kind of ignored the situation, but they didn't seem like they were enjoying the noise, either. In defense of the girl, at some point she seemed to have noticed that the guy was putting them in the center of attention--not the good kind. She actually told him to leave from where she was making the food; I honestly didn't think she would tell him anything. She may've noticed someone with an uncomfortable look on their face by then; I know it didn't go unnoticed by the other patrons. On a lighter note, although not that light, the demeaning attitudes and back and forth insults can be reined in a little. I understand if it's a thing that you jokingly do amongst yourselves, however, it can go a bit overboard especially when you're directly in front of customers who are in earshot of every word. I remember clearly one of the girls just continuously kept calling the other girl stupid, and she was saying it in such a manner that I felt bad for the other girl; I was actually getting really irritated with her rudeness. It was excessive and I felt really uncomfortable; and I was just a bystander. There is one girl who is consistently nice, smiles, and works pretty well; she is short and skinny, and wears (or wore) long braids. It seems that, for the most part, she is mindful of her behavior in front of customers. I also thoroughly enjoyed the young lady who was always doing drive thru, she had a very professional appearance and demeanor. I think she was/is a manager, her shirt was collared(?); I think her name is Shantell or something along those lines ? She was very personable and she paid careful attention to her customers--top notch. I haven't seen her there lately, but she was definitely a great asset. Lucky to have(had) her. She possesses a genuinely pleasant and composed demeanor. You can't teach that. Starting from about a few months ago: This location seemed to have switched up their staff a lot, the atmosphere is not as inviting and personable as before. I am only speculating, but it feels like a change occurred on some level. I wonder if everyone gets along well, it kind of feels divided when I walk in now--maybe it's just the many strong personalities in one space, or maybe it's just one that rules the roost? Again--I'm just speculating. But after this change in atmosphere, the smoothies became bland and tasteless; I'm pretty sure that the smoothies were not being adequately made. My food order was consistently either wrong or forgotten altogether. I'm going to guess that the employees had position changes, and that caused the overall service to suffer? I'm just hoping they all work together to make this location's reputation stellar. Let's end this on a high note: I think I can seriously say that I love the food and smoothies at Tropical Smoothie Cafe. I think that they are starting to care more about what they are putting out, and maybe that just goes along with knowing the product better, getting the process down, and becoming more confident in their work. The last smoothie I had was delicious, and the speed of the whole order was a bit quicker. In regards to the smoothies, they just recently started working on getting their quality back to where it was. My food was also delicious and exactly what I ordered! She even remembered my order. All in all, this isn't a deal breaker by any means; it definitely won't stop me from going back. Most of my complaints are about human mistakes and age related tendencies, which should be taken as constructive criticism; this is all an easy fix-- it just takes the willingness to be mindful. I didn't get a chance to eat here. Waited in line for 15 min., watched the cashier accidentally void a coupon for the person in front of me and then not offer to fix the mistake. The manager came over in a huff and said the woman was holding up the line and made her pay the full amount.
