It's not the best sushi I've ever had, but it's not the worst, either. Went for the happy hour sushi. The amount of rolls they had on their happy hour menu was a pretty decent selection. I decided to try the dynamite roll, spider roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a California roll. All were pretty decent, but my dynamite roll was absolutely swimming in sauce and you couldn't taste anything else in it. My biggest thing is the rice was super gummy and mushy in the rolls. It made them have a pretty off putting texture... Flavor wise they weren't bad though. Also, be aware their happy hour rolls are pretty small - a lot smaller if you were to just order them off the menu. Overall, I'd go back. This is the 2nd attempt for us to order from this place. We were excited to try a new place and we used the direct mail menu and website to determine what we wanted to order. After speaking to two different people over the phone, neither one could identify the house specialty that I was referring to from the top of their menu. I was asked to read the phone number and address off of the menu I was reading off of to the restaurant. Then when I referred to their website which also had the menu item listed, they told me "we have not used the website in a long time". Needless to say, why send a direct mail piece with "house specialties" and a link to a website that doesn't exist if it does not reflect your restaurant's offering? Went back for a dine-in experience with the wife. We both ordered curries, her the veggie curry and me the red chicken curry extra spicy. The taste was fair, again very average (like my General Tso's from earlier). It was cooked well, all veggies hot but crispy, and my chicken was sliced thinly and cooked through. They used white chicken meat, which was nice. I lowered a star due to the service I got. While the food is middle of the road (not good, not really bad though), I got pretty awful service. Our food came out at random (I got my soup, finished it, and several minutes later she got her salad, our entrees arrived two or three minutes apart) and I was never given a refill of water without having to ask the server (you'd think she would catch the hint after I ordered something extra spicy, or after having to ask for a refill the first two times, but she'd come by and ask how things were without a pitcher in her hand, and if I forgot to ask for a refill, it didn't happen). This may be significantly better as a sushi joint, but what I ordered has nothing to do with the lousy service. Really solid neighborhood place for sushi and other Asian food. Not the best in the Orlando area, but the best in my Horizon West neighborhood and that's ok with me. Disappointed, horrible food...ordered Thai basil chicken and Thai basil shrimp. I've had a lot of Thai food in my past and many Thai basil dishes and this is something I've never had. It tasted burnt in a brown sauce loaded with onions and only a few Thai basil leaves, was supposed to be medium spicy had no spice at all. Could not even finish the dish. I called and spoke with the manager and she basically said too bad we've been doing it this way for 10 years. Two stars is generous, Will not be going back. one of the best asian places in all of orlando especially the sushi. i come here mainly for the sushi and it's unlimited options it's seriously so hard to pick. aside from that, Victoria, the owner is the sweetest kindest person you will ever meet. i have had very very bad experiences with other chinese owners or staff in general but true asian is like never seen before, the staff is insanely welcoming.the ambiance of this place really reminded me of my time back in japan. they have these insane drawings which are HAND-DRAWN by victorias daughter i could honestly stare at it everyday. the food is high quality not like other chinese places it's seriously one of a kind. save your money folks and eat here rather than any of chinese places. read more

This is my 4th time patronizing this particular restaurant, & each time was met with disappointment. Points of departure include poor service, terrible food (presentation, flavor, ingredients, etc.), and space. I have taken 3 different out of town visitors to the restaurant because it is conveniently located near Windermere & I like the decor. However, it is cramped for space, the service is slow, and the food is terrible. On March 31, 2018, I took 3-guest to the restaurant. When we entered at 5:45 p.m., there were only 4-other seated patrons. By 6:30 p.m., there were still only 4-patrons. They seemed to care more about their delivery takeout than their eat-in patrons. We ordered 3-General Tso's chicken ($38.97), 1 SH black bean shrimp ($13.50), 1-Fried ice cream $4.99), 4-sodas ($9.00) for a total of $70.78 plus tip. I give up--it's just not for us. FYI--I agree with Martin L. Rude, slow, unpleasant, & gauche. Might I add, flash frozen salmon flavor accompanied their so called fresh fish. read more

We were in the mood for Asian food and stopped at another local place first but there wasn't any seating so we headed here. And we're so glad we did! This place was packed too, but we snagged a spot at the sushi bar. We had gone out for Chinese, but when I saw the list, I knew I had to have sushi. I ordered Rock Shrimp Roll to start with and my hubby ordered the Dynamite roll. Then we each ordered a Dinner Combo--I got the honey chicken and hubby got the orange chicken. The soup part of the dinner combo came out first. I had the wonton soup and hubby had egg drop. They were both good. Then our sushi came out. I asked for some eel sauce on the side. Both rolls were really good. I'm not a big fan of spicy foods so the Dynamite roll was only okay for me but hubby really liked it. I really enjoyed my Rock Shrimp roll though. I'd get it again. Next came the egg roll. Then after a bit came the meal with the pork fried rice. Oh my. The serving size was HUGE!!! I could easily have shared mine with at least two other people. I ended up taking it most of it home. My honey chicken was okay. Not my favorite honey chicken I've ever had, but that's okay. The staff was so nice The waitresses seemed to know a lot of the people eating in the restaurant. There seemed to be lots of regulars which is nice to see. And apparently they have a $3.25 sushi happy hour. We will DEFINITELY be back to try that out! read more

Asian cuisine in the Windermere/Winter Garden area is hard to come by, so when I saw the signage for Tao Asian coming soon - I could not wait to sample it! As other Yelpers have written, the restaurant is small (a few booths, tables for two, and a sushi bar), modern, and clean. We were promptly seated, but that was where the "timely manner" ended. As we arrived at 5:30, the sushi happy hour was in progress, and what a steal of a deal that is! A decent amount of sushi rolls/maki, sashimi, and nigiri available at $3/plate. I ordered a few rolls and a ginger salad as part of the special, whereas my husband and our friend ordered from the standard dinner menu. After our orders were taken, another server came to take our order...we politely informed her that we already placed our order; however, we could see she appeared to be confused. She glanced at our table and offered me a water refill, yet my cup was more than 3/4 full! Within a few minutes my ginger salad arrived. My husband ordered an appetizer order of gyoza, and our friend ordered a seaweed salad, and one would think these three pre-meal items would arrive around the same time. I waited a few minutes to see if they would receive their items, but my husband urged me to go ahead and start. The greens were fresh, and the dressing was flavorful, but it was a good thing I didn't wait for their appetizers, as they did not appear before my husband's entree arrived. My husband ordered a seared tuna dish and a side of white rice, and the tunawas the next item to arrive at the table. As we were unsure of the timing, we all agreed to just eat our food as it arrived. Next came our friend's seaweed salad, followed by part of my sushi order. Our server came and asked what we were still waiting for, our response was "the gyoza appetizer, a spider roll, a side of white rice, and chicken pad thai." Our food continued to come out in spurts, nothing arrived at the same time. The pad thai, the rice, my spider roll, and lastly the gyoza which was ordered as an appetizer. One of the servers asked us for feedback, and we were pretty honest. She explained that they were new (which we were aware of) and that they're still working on the communication and team building. What should have been a 45 minute to an hour long meal ended up being slightly under two hours. All in all, the food was delicious and the restaurant was clean and trendy; however we will wait before returning to eat in. We plan to utilize them for take out and delivery, and in a few months, we will try eating in again. read more

About 45 minutes later we received our food, the delivery guy was also very polite. We ordered the General Tso's Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Pork Fried Rice. Been meaning to try Tao Asian for 2 years every time we drive by. So first, the good - fresh sushi was a hit with the table. But that's where the good ends. Reality - Ordered a number of family style dishes to try things out. Boneless ribs appetizer was a huge portion, but unfortunately, dry and inedible. When we mentioned to our server (who seemed to be the manager), her comment was, "Well, you have lots of other things to try." Really?!? Next up was the Seafood Mixed dish (can't recall name) - jumbo shrimp, even a couple chunks of lobster (not a bad touch), a couple pieces of fish, and fake krab (yes, with a K), all in a nondescript white sauce. BORING and bland. And the lobster was clearly previously frozen and way overcooked. There were more water chestnuts than any other substance to the dish. Next up... Shrimp Foo Young. Pretty good, with fresh jumbo shrimp and onions, but the nondescript brown sauce over what was basically a shrimp omelette (very strange texture, but a LOT of food)... still, not something we'd ever order again. Aside from 3 of the 4 main dishes having been served mildly warm (barely tepid... probably sat a bit too long on the counter waiting for service... the rice, everything... just not hot like you'd expect from freshly made)... the most disappointing was the Sizzling Combo Platter, served in something that looked like a large Sterno can, with nothing sizzling at all. Had LOTS of red/green peppers, and a few pieces of jumbo shrimp, scallops (way overcooked) and a few pieces of chicken. However, the biggest problem was I specifically told the server I was ordering it because I love Szechuan sauce (vs. all the nondescript, bland white and brown sauces that seem to cover most everything else). My only request with this dish - make it not spicy (no hot oil, and no hot peppers). So what did I receive? Basically sweet and sour... I asked why it was so sweet (vs. Szechuan's amazing savory)... the manager said because I ordered it not spicy, they use a different sauce?! What?!? If I wanted Sweet n Sour I would have ordered it! Who ever heard of such a thing?! So, all in all, would have been a 1-star rating, if not for the fresh sushi. So, if you like sushi, and that's it, maybe 3 stars... it was ok. But won't go back either way, since the rest was worst than meh. And oh - if you happen to have any food sensitivities in your party... I asked during our meal if there was any MSG added to any dishes (aside from naturally occurring in soy sauce), because a family member (who wasn't with us this visit, but had the food been good, may have joined another time) is highly allergic to MSG additive. The response - we "try" to not add any MSG, because some of our contents are "sourced overseas" (BIG RED FLAG)... you don't know, in this day and age, whether you are adding MSG to your food?! When I asked our server/manager (not having been confident in the first person's response), she first said no, no MSG at all! When I questioned, based upon the other person's response, only then did she say she'd go check with the chef... only to come back to inform that there "might" be MSG added to the "chicken powder" used in the dishes. Um, chicken... POWDER?! So if it hadn't been sealed to that point, we were done, and left. And no, they did not offer to comp the plate that was tough and overcooked. Wow....the only word I have to say about dinner tonight. My family came at around 6 and were seated right away. We ordered about 11 rolls from the happy hour menu and some other things from the dinner menu. Our server came around and asked us what drinks we wanted and we told him. He came back 10 minutes later with the drinks...wow. Then we ordered the food. We waiting for almost an hour for our sushi to come out. My parents got so frustrated and bored, my dad had to go outside and walk around for a little bit. When the sushi finally came, we destroyed it because of how hungry we got while waiting. I don't think I've ever been so happy leaving a restaurant after tonight. Order take out or delivery during happy hour or else you'll be in the restaurant for a good 2 hours waiting on your meal. read more

We've been here a few times always with varying degrees of service. The main waitress always seems to be in a rush and Will take over the other waitresses tables even though she can barely manage the tables she has. Tonight we arrived at the beginning of happy hour and after 10 minutes the main waitress came to take our order. She took the happy hour menu out of our hands and said ok I'll place your order and I let her know I would like my roll made with soy paper, just like I always do. She said no they can't do that and I told her they always do, we just pay $1-2 dollars more. She said it was too busy and they wouldn't do it.
