I've been a TFK fan for a while and LOVED the food. The service is usually pretty good. I was excited to come in tonight but was sadly disappointed. The hostess was very sweet and helpful. Our server, however, did not check on us once throughout the dinner. He forgot to bring one of our drinks and we didn't even get a chance to tell him because he didn't check on our table. We told one of the other servers/food runners about it and about 15 minutes later, he came with the drink and an extra one for some reason but we were already done with our food by then about 45 minutes after we initially ordered. On top of this, he charged our card without giving us the receipt first (he took the card off our table). He charged us for items we didn't order and somehow added $50 extra to what the tables tab totaled to, showing as an overcharge on the bill. It took a while to get his attention again and fix the issue but never got an explanation for the unaccounted for $50 dollars that he added. On top of this, our food was served cold and the burgers we ordered were dry. This is not what we usually experience at TFK. read more

I've experienced in-restaurant dining at this location a few times before, but this review is for their catering. I recently placed a catering order for a baby shower, and overall it was a great experience and I'd use TFK again. Options are limited for their online catering; unfortunately, you won't find their famous edamame dumplings or other hot plates. The catering menu only features a selection of wraps, salads, bowls, warm sides, drinks, and desserts. I had issues completing my order online, so I called this location and worked with TFK manager Vanessa, who assisted me with the menu and how much to order for our group. She even convinced me to cut my order in half, which I'm so thankful I did because we had so much food leftover. The food was still a hit at the lunch shower, delivery (from their third party service) was on time, and everything arrived correct and presentable (we all know how delivery doesn't always 'plate' well.) Nice restaurant in a great location, with a really nice ambiance. Always enjoyed sitting and eating at the bar in particular. Sampled a lot of the menu and it was pretty consistently good. The burgers were always tender and juicy. The pizza was pretty solid. The chopped salad was very good with a portion of fresh salmon. My favorites though were probably the ancient grains bowl but most of all the edamame dumplings - these don't look like much but they are absolutely delicious. read more

They told us that are food was going to be ready at 1:30 and made us wait until 2:00 to get our to go order. We told them this and they blatantly ignored us and proceeded to talk amongst themselves in the kitchen! They hold food packages just sitting on the counter for 20+ minutes of food ready for pickup however they chose not to bag it until we stood there for 10 minutes making eye contact asking four times for our food! I have so many positive things to say about this fine place to eat. First off, the ambience is perfect. The decor and lighting are evenly balanced to not draw away from the experience yet make you feel comfortable and warm and welcoming. Now to the food. Any place that puts the focus on clean and healthy food that this restaurant does will get my business over and over again. The menu is broad and interesting with a wide variety of choices. I love the quality of the produce and protein that they incorporate into their meals. Priced reasonably for the quality one cannot go wrong in eating her again and again. First time in Austin... walking around the area and came across this restaurant yesterday. Love the vibe of the restaurant and love the farm to table aspect. When we got seated we were automatically greeted with waters but then she kinda went away for awhile. Our server I am not sure if she was the bar manager or worked at the bar but she was busy working at the bar and her didn't have apron on so that's what we assumed. She didn't introduce her name either. The food took awhile but we didn't mind since we were just relaxing. She didn't really check on us too much - only once but she was serving maybe 1-2 tables next to us. At the end of the meal, she asked if we wanted boxes and asked if we wanted the check. She didn't ask if we wanted anything esle or dessert. Overall the food was good, We got the arugula strawberry salad with steak and the bison sausage pizza. Oh my god the pizza crust was delicious and the salad was good, very refreshing! Wish they added maybe some sweet other greens along with it since the arugula can be bitter even though there was strawberries in it. Overall this review was mainly about the service. I don't think she was a regular server, I wish she was a little more attentive. I felt like if we ended something we would've needed to wave her down and go to the bar. I came here with a group of coworkers. There were 8 of us total. We had made a reservation so we didn't have to wait. Even though it was 12:15 when we got there and it was busy, I believe there were still a few open tables. It's a pretty big restaurant and they have outdoor seating available. Several of us ordered off the fall menu. Other than one person who had ordered a fish dish (I think sea bass), everyone was very happy with their dish. I think the fish was fine, but it was a really small portion and he was still hungry, so he ended up ordering a pizza too. We got cookies and the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. My coworkers really liked the cookies but I probably wouldn't order the flourless chocolate cake again. It's a good atmosphere and the staff were all very friendly. Despite being prime lunch time on a Thursday, it wasn't too loud in the restaurant, which is really nice. read more

I was excited to try this place. My children love it and talked about how good the food was. We went on a Monday night at 630 pm and had reservations. It was not busy at all. We sat for 15 minutes until the hostess brought us waters. We put in our cocktail orders and later food orders. Forty-five minutes later got our food and still waiting for silverware and our cocktails. I got the Tuna Poke Bowl. It was mainly quinoa. We finally got our cocktails as we were finishing dinner. The price was $164 for four. Not really worth it. Plan on 2 hours to order and eat. read more

The taste fell flat; it tasted more like airline food than something that I would seek out from a restaurant. The dumpling appetizer was ok as well, but not great. One thing to note: they have gluten-free options for those who need it! So this was my first time at True Food and I was impressed. They are taking covid measures seriously: tables socially distanced, sanitizers, staff wears masks and you can even do contactless ordering! It was a nice Austin day so we sat outside. Serving size is also decent. The reason I'm giving it only 3 star is that I was really unsatisfied with the waitress to our table. When we tried to order, she was chatting with some coworkers behind the bar counter and didn't see us for a while, and she missed the beef in my order. Just like the one in the Domain, the establishment had clean, spacious interior, friendly and knowledgeable staff, as well as a good number of vegan options available. When my husband and I visited the establishment for dinner today, I got the butternut squash pizza and my husband ordered the vegan double cheeseburger. We both enjoyed the pizza, as its vegan ricotta was close to being "real cheese", and the dough had a nice, chewy texture. My husband's burger was a bit underwhelming, mainly due to the patties that were visibly ground up vegetables molded into round shapes, but the side of kale salad and sweet potato were super flavorful and paired well with both the burger and my pizza. read more

I have been to the Domain location with no issues but we ordered at the Downtown location and I noticed halfway through my meal the salmon was raw. I was hungry after a long work day/conference and didn't notice at first but I am now home suffering the consequences. I am not sure if the fish was off or if I am not used to raw fish. Definitely will not be returning to this location. I am so sad because this is my favorite restaurant and one of the few I can eat at in my area. Bottom line up front: Impressive and clean vegetarian and vegan foods with options for those who also want meat. My family is in Austin for a barbecue vacation. So naturally our first dinner here is at True Food Kitchen?! Seriously though, last time I did a barbecue vacation, we got incredibly sick of eating meat and felt physically unwell. Therefore, we were committed to vegetarian or vegan for at least 1 meal a day. But going vegetarian or vegan does not have to be punishment, and True Food Kitchen is an amazing demonstration of this. While we were mostly impressed by our salads and hummus appetizer, we did have 1 complaint. The salads were very heavily dressed. Perhaps lightly dress the salad and provide more dressing on the side? One can always add more dressing, but it's impossible to remove dressing. As a result, we were picking out lesser dressed greens and avoided the drenched greens altogether. read more

This is a really fun place to visit. I discovered this place back in August of 2021 and I've been there three times since. I live in New Braunfels so visiting here three times is actually saying something. What I like: The vegan options and the flavors in some of the dishes. The ambiance. The service. The patio! Why didn't I give this a 5 star review? The only thing I would say that the prices are just slightly above what I'm good with. Example is a green tea is $4. I know I know... we're in the city and I should expect to pay city prices but I guess I grew up where iced tea would only be $2.50. Splitting hairs here, probably. But that's really just a small gripe of mine. The other one is that the flavors really pop on some of the dishes. My favorite dish by far is the edamame dumplings. Such a wonderful melding of flavors that each time we visit here, we order at least 2 orders! This explosion of flavors, like I found in the edamame dumplings just isn't found in the rest of the dishes that I have tried. Example, I tried the butternut squash pizza and it was quite bland. The ingredients are fresh, bright, and of high quality, but the flavors just aren't always there. I hope the chef "kicks it up a notch!". For example, the vegan double cheeseburger is decent. It's filling and I do like the sweet potato hash but the burger just lacks flare. I really do like this place though and the ambiance is awesome. We will be back! read more
