This is a really fun place to visit. I discovered this place back in August of 2021 and I've been there three times since. I live in New Braunfels so visiting here three times is actually saying something. What I like: The vegan options and the flavors in some of the dishes. The ambiance. The service. The patio! Why didn't I give this a 5 star review? The only thing I would say that the prices are just slightly above what I'm good with. Example is a green tea is $4. I know I know... we're in the city and I should expect to pay city prices but I guess I grew up where iced tea would only be $2.50. Splitting hairs here, probably. But that's really just a small gripe of mine. The other one is that the flavors really pop on some of the dishes. My favorite dish by far is the edamame dumplings. Such a wonderful melding of flavors that each time we visit here, we order at least 2 orders! This explosion of flavors, like I found in the edamame dumplings just isn't found in the rest of the dishes that I have tried. Example, I tried the butternut squash pizza and it was quite bland. The ingredients are fresh, bright, and of high quality, but the flavors just aren't always there. I hope the chef "kicks it up a notch!". For example, the vegan double cheeseburger is decent. It's filling and I do like the sweet potato hash but the burger just lacks flare. I really do like this place though and the ambiance is awesome. We will be back! read more

The employees were super nice and helpful. I always like to ask for there recommendations on what to eat and most cases it never fails. The waitress asked me what I was looking for....and I said hearty, flavorful, and delicious and she recommended the double vegan cheese burger. She wasn't wrong this sandwich was sooo delicious! OBVIOUSLY who doesn't enjoy a regular double cheeseburger but this was pretty good! The bread was super soft and most and the sandwich pretty much melted in my mouth. The actually pattie was crispy though so it worked together! The edamae dumpling was declious as well the hint of truffle made it pop out even more! I tried the turkey burger which was extremely good. The fixin's (avo, sauce) have it a great flavor. Flax bun was a nice touch. Sweet potato hash came out a bit cold, but tasty nonetheless. Pretty cool spot. Comes with a lot of options for gluten free/vegan people. The service is a little slow, but not horrendous. The staff is nice and accommodating. I got the gluten free chicken tenders and kale salad, which were pretty good, could use a little more flavor but the sauce makes up for it. My girlfriend got the grass fed burger, and asked for medium which they cooked wrong. We sent it back and it was still overdone, so I would make sure you're specific about how you like your burgers done. For the price, it's a great place. read more

My husband & I were able to get a reservation for lunch super last minute at True Food on a Sunday afternoon. It was not busy at all - we could have not made a reservation & been seated immediately. The service was fast & efficient. And our server was very kind & helpful. The menu has great, wholesome ingredients. And I LOVE that they have all their nutrition facts online - this is always a huge plus in my book! The food was good as far as healthy food goes. But, I wasn't over-the-moon impressed by any of it. Would go back if I need something that fits my nutrition goals, but probably not if I'm just looking to eat some really delicious food. We went to visit our friends in Austin from Houston, and they wanted to go to this place for lunch. Everybody's food was very good, but the customer service was excellent. I have a lot of food restrictions ( vegan, no salt, no oil). I initially asked the waitress if the roasted vegetables were oily and she said no but when they came they were extremely oily and greasy, I cannot eat any oil. She took the vegetables back and asked if I wanted something else but I was turned off about the whole thing so I said no I don't want anything but they made it right and brought me steamed or dry cooked veggies ! read more

I've been to Tru Foods at least a dozen times. It's a go to for healthy eating. We went tonight with Vegan friends knowing their menu would accommodate their diet. Our table had the double cheeseburger, Sea Bass, Korean noodles, spaghetti squash and an ancient grain bowl with Tofu. My meal was the ancient grain bowl. Unfortunately it came with Sriracha sauce all over it. I wasn't going to complain but the rest of my group said something. The server automatically took it away and brought me a new one with sauce on the side. The manager took it off the menu and gave us complementary desserts. As far as "healthy" food goes, True Food Kitchen wins. It's got a seasonal rotation of dishes, modern, flavorful and avant garde in terms of cuisine. Lots of vegetarian and vegan friendly options, great atmosphere and decor too. What more could you want? Starters here are a must. I recommend the charred brussels, which have a deep sear and enough carbonization for contrast as well as the edamame guac, which is really guac with edamame on top as decor but the homemade chips are great. Edamame dumplings are also good, though texturally a bit mushy on the inside. The dishes themselves are larger than you expect, so you'll leave full but the biggest challenge is figuring out what to eat. There's so many good looking options, so it'll take you a long time to decide. I opted for the spicy panang curry with tofu and was very impressed. The sauce wasn't too spicy, large grilled chunks of tofu and a sauce that was rich but didn't overwhelm all the fresh veggies (green beans, more charred brussels). The black rice doesn't absorb the curry particularly well, but I did enjoy the nutty taste and the fact it didn't disintegrate in the large bowl of curry. The fruity seasonal drinks are also great. Concord grape lemonade, prickly pear other stuff, you name it. They seem like novelty party drinks but they aren't that sweet and will hit the spot on a cool day. Only blemish might be the dessert. The vanilla ice cream and cookies are just ok - both are a bit texturally off for my liking. All in all though, this is a great place to grab lunch and feel great about yourself doing so! read more

I love this place so much! The food is always fresh, they have an abundant amount of vegetarian options and always have a seasonal menu which can make it feel like a truly farm to table experience. It is a bit pricey but totally with it because it tastes and feels "clean." This go around, I wasn't really hungry so I got the Butternut Squash Pizza starter of the seasonal menu. My plan was to eat one or 2 slices and take the ready home but it was so tasty that I finished it all before I knew what was happening. I seriously recommend it while it's still on the menu. My friend had edamame dumplings to start and then half and half of the chopped salad and Korean noodle bowl - they don't tell you but you are totally allowed to mix and match half and half of the salads and bowls for your meal! Our waiter was super friendly, the restaurant was clean and it's always fun seating close to the kitchen watching the chefs and staff interact. While it is not my usual go-to, all of the dishes and cocktails I've tried have been decent. For me, the winner is the Grassfed Wagyu Burger. Wow, it is juicy and flavorful and THICC, all things I want a burger to be. This dish carries the rest of the restaurant for me, but again, if you are into health and responsibly sourced ingredients, this is the place for you. As a vegan, I love true food kitchen!!! It has super awesome options for vegans and vegetarians. My friend I came with was looking for paleo options, and they had a few dishes that can be modified to be paleo. I got the ancient grains bowl, which was really delicious, well seasoned, and good flavor combination but a littttle overpriced. They have validated parking only for an hour which kind of sucks cuz I ended up having to pay $15 for parking :( Overall, true food is a great place to grab a healthier meal, but the prices are a little high so I would probably only come once in a while! read more

Pretty good place to get some healthy and delicious food. My only con with this place is that they're often out of things if you go too late. For example, every time I've tried to order the Kale Aid, it's out. On this particular occasion, we ordered the brussel sprouts as an appetizer (an absolutely delicious seasonal dish) only for the waiter to come back after 5-10 minutes and tell us they were out. Thankfully, they could see I was irritated and brought us out an appetizer on the house, which I really appreciated! It was the Charred Cauliflower, which was really good. Service wise, everything was great. My chicken avocado wrap was super good, as always. It just tastes like what you would expect a chicken wrap to taste like but, that's what I expected, wanted and got. My boyfriend got the curry, which he said was delicious and not overly spicy. Had a reservation today, arrived early and were seated promptly. The food, as always was great. Had the big breakfast on the brunch menu and everything cooked perfectly. My friend had the avocado toast which was also great and a berry dessert with vegan ice cream. The service was great and the food on point. It was my first time trying this location, I'm a long time fan of True Food and the food is consistent and never disappoints. This is my fourth time visiting this restaurant. Every time is worse. Food is decent. Extremely slow and bad service. This time, party of 4, got to the restaurant on Sunday 2/2 at 2:20pm. Got a table at 2:35pm. They took OVER 20 mins to take our order, which was at 3pm. We were still waiting for our food at 3:45pm which were two Korean Bowls, one Chinese Chicken Salad and a Butternut Squash Soup. Restaurant not even half full. This is a management issue. Needless to say, not coming back. Better options around. Wouldn't recommend, unless you have all the time in the world and don't mind waiting. read more
