This has become one of my Father-Daughter go to restaurants on weekends for lunch. I love True Food Kitchen because their food is wholesome and healthy! Although they offer an array of protein options, the dishes are so good you don't need to add meat! I come here knowing I will be filled and satisfied eating vegetarian. Also, my dad is diabetic so he really loves their Ramen because it's made with glass noodles which exponentially lowers the carb count. My two favorite menu items is the Ancient Grains Bowl & Pesto Pasta because both come with their infamous pumpkin pesto sauce that is out of this world! I really wish they could mass produce their pesto sauce so I could buy it and put it on everything! I also love the Peruvian sweet peppers that are always so fresh! They also serve loose leaf tea and Rishi is one of my favorite tea brands! Among the appetizers the Roasted Cauliflower is the best! More recently, they have allowed us to sample their juices and offered us complimentary dessert. Two great desert options are the tart and flourless chocolate cake with vegan ice cream. I once brought my aunt & uncle to visit. In my aunt's past life she used to be a personal trainer and body builder and she thought this place was phenomenal!My dad works nearby and he requested his company take him & his coworkers here for his celebratory retirement send off! Prices are very high for the small amount of food you get. The restaurant has a college cafeteria feel to it, so definitely not a place to go for a romantic date or special occasion. The menu is all "healthy" food, which is nice, but if you have someone in your group that is a big eater (meat and potatoes like my husband), they will either have to order a couple of entrees or leave still being hungry. I guess it's a good place to meet for lunch if you're a couple of women who are watching what you eat. Stopped for lunch at the Oak Brook location on a beautiful sunny afternoon. I was in a hurry but wanted to capture some rays and enjoy the rare 60° temp on an October day. I plan to order carry out and sit at one of their patio tables. But I was told that the patio is closed. I reiterated that I'm not looking to be served, merely to order carry out and sit at one of the many, many patio tables. The hostess felt it necessary to get a manager, so that he could reiterate rudely that I could not sit on the patio. Really? This place must have way too much business to turn away customers. How could I have the audacity to want to actually sit outside and beautiful sunny day at the tables and chairs that they provide for customers? We spent most of our time there watching the server (Alma) ignore us. Dinner drink was forgotten (I had to eventually go to the bar to ask again, and then still wait)! Ignored by server, hostess and manager - who could clearly see the situation. Zero acknowledgement from server... we even had to wait for the check. Again, great food but really poor service. True Food Kitchen is my favorite new, trendy, health-centric restaurant in the Chicago burbs! TFK is one of the newest restaurants in the area, taking over the old Stir Crazy location. It is very similar to Seasons 52, albeit less formal. TFK's entire interior is nature inspired; wall to wall are nature elements and lots of green. I didn't feel like I was in the middle of the Chicago burbs - I felt like I was in California. I did not object given I went on a cold day! Like Seasons 52, it has a rotating seasonal menu. My server was Mira - she was fantastic! When I envision a "brand ambassador," I think of someone who represents the brand because him or her truly believes in the product that is being sold. Mira did just that. Being that this was my first time at TFK, I had no idea about portion sizes, what is recommended, etc. She walked me through the entire menu and recommended tons of tasty options. Moreover, service in its entirety was great. Food was served quickly and staff was very nice. First, I tried the butternut squash soup. It was very savory; not sweet like I'm used to. However, it was extremely yummy! To drink, I had a pomegranate chia limeade - it was delicious! Very crisp and refreshing. But the real winner was the Grass-Fed Burger. I've had several burgers before, and this is easily one of the best that I have had. It was not huge by any means, but the beef was seasoned to perfection. Seriously, if you want a burger, you NEED to try it. Lastly, I had the Chia Seed Pudding. It was interesting, while not my favorite, I would order it again in if I have a small sweet tooth. I am bad bad person if I didn't review my once-a-week-go-to-fave-place-evahh! True food deserves more than stars. They deserve sky and stars! Clean place, clean food, real food! Healthy choice is always a good choice. I enjoy every moment spent here. I even took once my guests from Europe to try this tasty dishes. They have seasonal specials and now pumpkins are in peak. I enjoyed almost everything on the menu but lets say we have some faves. Dumplings with truffle oil, grain bowls, hummus, salads, cod fish.. seasonal soups are amazing! Tulsi tea is a must. Og refreshener is a must too. Burger will come with a side of kale salad or sweet potatoes so no no for fries my friends:))) Service is always fast. I can not say enough of this restaurant. Usually love this place but ordered the pho for once and immediately regretted it. I figured it wouldn't be authentic, but it lacked flavor and tasted watery. Didn't eat much of it unfortunately. I decided to try this place after seeing how delicious everything looked. It's also 4 minutes from my workplace so that's a bonus. Today I tried the grass fed burger with the side kale salad, and a watermelon lemonade. I could tell they used lots of fresh watermelon in the lemonade. The kale salad was good and had good flavor. 1 star off because I asked for my burger medium (I like it tender and juicy) and the burger patty came very, very well done. Quite overcooked. I didn't like the tough texture and charred flavor. But the toppings on top of the burger were yummy. It's on the pricey side. $23.65 for a burger entree and watermelon lemonade before tip. How has it taken this long for me to try True Food Kitchen??? This might be my new favorite date night spot (or any night spot). I came in here with no expectations and I was so pleasantly surprised. First of all, I love the layout and the big open space. This would be a nice place for a lunch or dinner with a group of friends, but the chill and slightly dim lighting and the candles also makes it a nice place for a romantic dinner for two. Second, the service is amazing. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful when it came to ordering. She also explained that some of the dishes are seasonal, a concept which I think is awesome and makes me feel good about what I'm ordering in terms of freshness and environmental friendliness. She also really tried to make sure we were going to love everything we ordered...which brings me to my next point... The kitchen is super accommodating. I ordered the Sea Bass and the dish included quinoa, which I let my waitress know I was allergic to. I was happy just to order it without the quinoa but the waitress said I would lose out on a lot of the flavor and said I could just add the Sea Bass to any of the other dishes. I took her suggestion and I'm so glad I did! I added it to the spicy curry dish which was PACKED full of flavor. It's a little on the sweeter side for a curry, but it was creamy and sweet from coconut, had a tangy flavor from something citrus-y, and also had a spicy kick as an aftertaste. It went GREAT with the Sea Bass...which...it's Sea Bass. It was delicious. My husband ordered the grass-fed burger and they let him order a little bit of each of the sides (kale and potatoes). The burger itself was delicious, although was missing something creamy (like cheese or even a little mayo). OMG simply outstanding! I've been pretty hungry and decided to stop by in True food Kitchen after visiting a mall. I'm so happy that I did, I can surely say that a food in here is one of the most delicious food I have in Illinois area, as it's not always easy to find well prepared plant based food. Even though I live like 40 minutes away I would definitely come here again to make my gut and mind happy again. I also had Summer corn Tomato Flatbread and Kale aid (which I was lately craving for).
