My husband comes here often with work colleagues and I can see why it's their favorite now! We went for dinner on Saturday night and it was pretty packed. Service was slow; we received water pretty quickly but waited 30 minutes before the server came by to even start taking our orders. Fortunately we received our appetizers only 10 minutes after ordering, and I was impressed by how quickly our main entrees followed in succession. I ordered the jambalaya,which they pour directly into the plate in front of you over a small scoop of rice,which was a fun experience. It was probably the BEST jambalaya I've had in awhile! Rich flavors, chunks of chicken and shrimp, and not over-salty like others I've tried. My husband's house salad was good but not amazing. For our main entrees I ordered the smoked half duck. It arrived with a big chunk of duck meat heaped onto the plate and dressed with the most delicious tangy cherry topping/glaze and parmesan bread pudding which I would order separately on its own because it's that good. The bread pudding is chewy,chock full of cheese, and still tasted good as leftovers the next day. The smoky flavor of the duck permeated throughout. My husband's halibut special was quite delicious as well, flaky and tender with bacon-infused kale. Though service was slow, the food was scrumptious and I can't wait to try other things here. The food is great. We've had delicious entrees ranging from steaks to fish. Service was just fine and just attentive enough. They are known for the expansive wine list--which is way above my head and price level, but our waiter was very helpful with selecting a moderately priced bottle.The outdoor tent is very elegant and a really pleasant dining environment, while the building interior is pretty stodgy and could use a makeover. They are also well-known for the butchery in the back--I've heard about this forever but never visited. Oh this is oh so Ladue. My husband and I made reservations several weeks in advance and were the second table to be seated. The hostess walked us to a two-top crammed in a corner against a wall next to another table sharing the same booth bench. We asked her if there was any other options because we would have been uncomfortably crammed into the seat. She stated she doubted there was anything else available and she returned advising there wasn't any other option. The entire dining room except one other table was open and that was a red flag for us. She offered no apology, turned around and walked away. We sat down but were immediately uncomfortable and knew that by the time we had our drinks and food, we would have no available space left on the table to even rest our arms. We decided to leave and stopped by the hostess desk to let them know about our interaction with the hostess. She stated they had a full house but that we could have moved to another table of the same size but in a different area. At that point our first inpression was set and chose to go elsewhere. Maybe the food is great, maybe they have an amazing wine selection. Unfortunately the lack of professionalism of the staff and the tables set almost on top of eachother was enough for us to decide that we weren't going to have an experience to make the food worth it. read more

Came here with 4 people for my husband's bday. It was a last minute surprise reservation and this was the only place available on a Saturday night. Tartare: It was a complimentary bite that they brought out for each of us before the bread. It was pretty good and I thought it was a really nice touch. Not sure if this will be on the menu eventually. Mussels: Standard PEI mussels prepared in broth. Make sure you save the warm bread to soak up the yummy broth. Burrata: This is not worth getting. Go to Sardella for an amazing Burrata. Truffle fries: THIS WAS THE ONLY THING I WILL EVER GET HERE. SOOOOO DELICIOUS!!!!!!!! Everyone could not stop eating this. Get ittttt!!!! Scallops: Standard. Their unique touch was to spice up the bed of carrots underneath. Definitely had a bit of heat so if you don't like spicy, maybe avoid. Filet mignon: Not bad but I actually was looking forward to the hanger steak over this one. I liked Ruth Chris' better. Side potato also had truffles inside. Green beans are plain so that it doesn't interfere with the main parts of the dish. We got the blue cheese on top of the mignon but I couldn't really taste the cheese... not worth the extra money. Salmon with watermelon: This was probably the most interesting dish I tried this night. The salmon had one side that was caramelized, which was delicious with arugula and bed of watermelon. The watermelon surprisingly went well. I think my only complaint is that this dish would have tasted better with a white fish. Salmon has its own unique taste that I'm personally not a fan of putting sauces and lots of flavor on it. I really liked the creativity behind this dish with the caramelizing and the watermelon, but I really do think it would have been better with a white fish. Gooey butter brownie: This is exactly what you expect. Gooey butter cake layer on top and brownie on bottom. The brownie does not taste like box brownies so don't worry. It's a big portion and rich so I think would be great to share. Créeme brûlée: Probably one of my favorite créeme brûlée I've had! The top caramel was a good thickness and the custard was very smooth. The biscotti was just ok. ***Keep in mind that they change their menu frequently, so they may have different preparations depending on when you go here!! Overall, I would come back for the truffle fries but that's about it. For the price the rest of the dinner was not worth it. There are plenty of restaurants in town that are better tasting and worth the money. But I repeat, the truffle friessssss. I wonder if I can just order a take out of the fries...? read more

Wow! This is a delicious food place! It is worth the price. I am really glad they are open. Too many places have been effected by Lockdowns. My wife and I came here for a Wednesday date night. At 6 pm, it was easy to get a reservation and get right in. The restaurant is a wonderful environment. Very High class. The paintings and decorations are fantastic. It helps make the experience top notch. The service is wonderful and staff is friendly. I suggest business casual. I had a off the menu special fried ball appetizer with goat cheese , rice, prosciutto and several other ingredients I can't remember. My wife had a wedge salad with crawfish. Both were excellent. I personally loved the tomato sauce that came with mine. It had this awesome smoke flavor that reminded me of a campfire. The truffle fries are seriously worth getting even if you take them home. The entrees were outstanding but with only one downside. My wife's steak was a bit too salty. It's a pretty thick ribeye steak and I can appreciate having enough favor to envelop the meat but we had to remove some of the outside to reduce the kick that touches your tongue. I had some amazing trout which we both ate more than her steak. I'm full. My wife is full. We had no room for desert. I give it a 93/100 overall. read more

I went here with a close friend for dinner on a beautiful spring evening. It was a quiet evening, sunny and cheerful with good food and no rush to finish dinner. They didn't offer any glasses of Malbec, but I was able to find a nice California Cabernet. We started with the duck and foie gras taco as well as the escargot with puff pastry. Both were delicious. For my entree I had the petit filet with horseradish crema. It was cooked to perfection and served with grilled asparagus and potato gratin. The fact I even had to deal with the asshole known as Brandon at this restaurant is enough for a 1 star, regardless of food. I thought the customer was always right but my girlfriend was berated to tears by him about a mistake on our meal. Not only that, I could smell whiskey on his breath while he was WORKING?! My review for Truffles has been sitting in my drafts for several months because I was so unimpressed that I didn't even feel motivated to post it. My husband and I came here for a date night, and it was not at all what I expected. I picked Truffles because of the rave reviews, but they appeared to have steered me wrong. Let me start by saying that the food was horrible. My meal was way too salty. I could barely finish 25% of it. The only thing I was able to eat without wanting to down a glass of water after every single bite was the charcuterie board (Butchery Board). How can the food be saltier than a charcuterie board?! My husband has a higher salt tolerance, so he was able to somewhat enjoy his food. I wouldn't consider that to be the norm though. I ordered the Truffle Risotto and Truffle Frites for my meal. It's a good thing I had the charcuterie board beforehand because I would have left starving. I finished less than 25% of it and gave the rest to my husband. We still had some leftovers, and we tossed it in the trash. For my husband's meal, he got something that is a bit more difficult to over-salt, the Filet Mignon with Chimichurri. He liked it, but like I said, even if it was salty, he probably would have tolerated it. Meanwhile, it felt like I was licking a salt rock. I've eaten at a lot of restaurants in my time all over the world, and none have ever tasted as bad as this Truffles in terms of salt. The service was great, and our server had my drink remade because it was way too alcoholic to my liking. For some people, that would be a plus, but I don't like to taste my alcohol. I probably should have sent back the food. However, we had been at the restaurant about an hour because the food took forever (at least 40 minutes), and I was ready to leave at that point. I tried to save dinner by getting dessert, which was the Bananas Foster. It was okay. Nothing to write home about. It is unlikely I would ever come back here. I don't know why everything was over-salted, but I personally don't really want to experience anything like this again. Proceed at your own risk! I usually do not write a review but felt like I had to as a warning to others. We went there for dinner last night and sat outside. We brought a bottle of wine to open and decant . We were told it would cost us $70 for a corkage fee since they have that wine on their wine list. We of course passed on that and bought one of their bottles. For dinner I ordered a Caesar salad with added shrimp on it . When it came to the table the Shrimp had a bad Odor. I then tasted one and it tasted bad. I basically ate lettuce with a vinegar and oil dressing with no croutons on it or cheese . My husband had a very small 4 oz steak and didn't finish it. It also did not taste good. We were highly disappointed and will not be back . We expected high quality food for the price and place. The only good thing we had was the Truffle fries. read more

I hadn't been to this place since an awkward "before the dance" meal in high school, when we were the youngest people in the place...by like 50 years. The decor was also REALLY outdated, and I'm NOT a fan of that. But I heard that they had a new chef, a new concept, and some new furniture, so I felt ready to give it another chance. Anything seems better out of high school. no? So my date and I arrived on a Saturday night around 7, pre-movie at Frontenac, and we were STILL the youngest people in the place...but probably only by 30 years this time. This is probably what made our waitress card us hard core for our wine. That's ok. I'm 27 and he's 29-we take it as a compliment. We ordered the Housemade Burrata Cheese to start, with crostini, as well as a Beet Salad that came with greens, pistachios, and caciocavallo (a special kind of cheese). Both were beautifully presented and really tasty, as was the very obviously housemade mini loaf of bread that they served us, and refilled once! For our entrees, I ordered the Saffron Fregola (kind of like a large israeli couscous, but more of a pasta), with olives, raisins, pine nuts, and tomatoes, and he ordered the Beef Flat Iron, with blue cheese and onions. Again, the presentation was impeccable, but I wasn't overwhelmed by my dish. It was ok, but nothing to rave about. However, the ingredients were fresh, and I appreciated the concept. Should've gone for the Agnolotti though. Luckily we also ordered sides of polenta and cabbage. The polenta was more like cornbread and again. not what I was expecting. But to be fair, they said it was baked...an oversight on my part. But the cabbage was delish, and even though my date ordered it, he was busy with his steak, so I ate most of it, after my Fregola was gone. Yeah...still ate every bite of that too. Overall, I'd say that this place has improved leaps and bounds from what it used to be. The service was perfect, and while every dish wasn't the best thing I've ever had, most dishes were really yummy, and worth going back for another try, with better ordering on my part. As some of my fellow yelpers might have noticed, I tend to let large swaths of time pass between experiencing a place and settling down to review it. Not so with Truffles - it is just that good! I came here with my mom for dinner on Saturday before Mother's Day (aiming to get ahead of the kiddie-brunch curve on the day itself). The service was impeccable and the food exceeded even my (high) expectations. The atmosphere was also excellent -low key and conducive to conversation. When we were seated for dinner, the tables were slowly filling up. By the time the meal concluded, there was a fairly substantial crowd, with almost all of the tables filled. Even at that, the overall sense was convivial, not hemmed in or loud/claustrophobic as Saturday dinner spots can sometimes get. I came in knowing that I wanted the Piedmontese burger - a specialty of the house with cheddar, bacon, and caramelized onions. My mom and I both ordered drinks by the glass - Prosecco for her and Australian malbec for me. The selection of wines by the glass is comprehensive and the price points were reasonable. I couldn't have asked for a better red to accompany the burger (perfectly cooked to medium). The fries that came with it were also solid - ever so slightly seasoned and presented in a paper cone, reminiscent of Belgian frites. Since my mom had been here before, she had her ordering strategy all mapped out. To start, she went with the baby romaine salad and, for the main course, cappellini pasta. The pasta was tastefully portioned and included Chesapeake crab. We shared a side dish of spinach. This version was extra good, as it featured garlic and lemon. For dessert, we shared the buttermilk panna cotta, which was very light and a perfect end to the meal. The dish was garnished with pistachios and plums, which elevated it above the ordinary. I will note that the focus of Truffles' menu is modern Italian. I believe this was a recent shift, as some rumblings were heard from a nearby table of traditional (er...grayer) patrons who were accustomed to the old menu offerings. For my part, I'm hoping that Truffles will stand by its approach to fresh, seasonal selections - and, of course, continue to serve up those burgers! read more

I came here for a work dinner and it was delicious. It had a preset menu to choose from so I ordered the raw yellowfin tuna wraps, house salad, and the Atlantic salmon. We also had amazing Moscow Mules that half our table really enjoyed. The tuna was raw which I loved, and their house salad was amazing. The dressing was homemade and had nice garlic flavors. I'm very picky about sandwich meat and this place makes the cut. Tucked away in what feels like a small town (I'm traveling so not 100% sure how convenient it actually is but did drive off the freeway for a couple miles into what I feared might be the wrong direction - I did end up I the right place though). I ordered the pastrami sandwich and got some artisan/"homemade" chips and candied bacon. I have yet to try the chips and bacon but the sandwich was good. I was raised on Jewish deli so while this is miles above the typical deli, it didn't touch my heart quite enough to move from 4 to 5 stars. I was trying to figure out what it was missing and I found myself wishing it had a pinch of salt. I wanted to try many things but had to catch a plane. If I lived around here I would likely grab soups and meals to go. Shrimp and Grits to go looked good. There is no seating- so don't plan on staying to eat your sandwich. Wish there was a table or two. Hard to enjoy a sandwich like this in your car. read more

Very nice place, quite relaxing. Our service was top quality, with an engaging waiter. Glasses kept full at all times. Courses always brought out together and plates always cleared together. Their attention to service details were very good. Food was pretty much all good, with just a couple of minor off notes. Bread was warm and soft. Butter was quite cold and hard, though. Off menu heirloom tomato and caprese salad was excellent (and we were told it was the fourth to last one they had left for the season). Burrata salad was also very good and quite rich. But the waiter said it was enough for two, and it definitely wasn't. Fortunately I had ordered it just for me. Perhaps he was thinking of the richness of the cheese. Filet was fork cutting tender and delicious. Potatoes gratin side was kind of bland. House pasta (linguine) with jumbo lump crab was very good, but too small a portion, especially for $24 for just pasta, and $14 to add the crab. I don't need a huge portion, but I don't want to still be hungry when done. And $24 for a small pasta only dish? Come on.... Bananas foster dessert was incredible, as it should be. Too bad they don't cook it table side, though. And the homemade cookies were also incredible. read more

My husband had the day off and we decided we deserved lunch out! Truffles has been on my to-do list for a long time and I'm glad we could finally make it happen! This place is beautiful! It screams fine dining the moment you step in! The beautiful paintings, the heavy, comfy chairs. I'll also mention that they play fantastic music! A ton of Beatles, Paul McCartney, Elton John - the music I was raised with and love so much! And they played it at the perfect volume - not too loud! Our server was absolutely, 100% fantastic! She was one of the best servers I've had in a while. We started with the Butchery Board. This comes with the options of adding cheese. The meat by itself is $15 and adding cheese adds $16. Let me do that math for you - that's a $31 meat and cheese board! That the most expensive cheese board I've ever had. What we got was certainly well made and delicious. But in my opinion it wasn't worth $31. I feel like I know a few other restaurants in the city that can give me an even better plate and at a lower price point. But moving on to happier things! The truffles burger is one of the best burgers in the city! The patty was seasoned like whah! It was bursting with flavor! And the sweetness of the caramelized onions paired perfectly! The only thing I would do differently next time is go with fries instead of chips. I did love the texture - extremely light and not overly hard. But they were very under seasoned. Perhaps I'd prefer the fries? When we go back, I'll definitely do that burger all over again. But I'll skip the Butchery and Cheese plate to save room for dessert! read more

Today we visit the highest end restaurant I've ever been to, Truffles. Now they tell us they've been struggling due to covid, with such a refined menu I couldn't believe it! This place is definitely five star worthy, not only is it a very elegant building but they staff wonderful understanding employees with knowledge of the menu and up and coming desserts and entrees soon to be introduced to the public. Nearly everything is made in house which is awesome, I rarely see that anymore. They have a cheesecake coming to the menu soon and it sounds like it's to die for. Definitely will be coming back to this beautiful restaurant. read more
