I have been eating at Tsunami, for many years. I lived in Japan, for over 2 years. Shin's sushi outdoes every other sushi, I have ever had! I always sit at the Sushi bar. I try to get Shin, as my chef, each time. He is so kind! He gives me a free salad, and a bag of cookies, at the end. All from his heart! He is the ONLY Japanese Sushi chef, in the restaurant. So, if you want to be treated like I was treated here, and in Japan, ask for him. He is off on Wednesdays, usually. I do not like raw fish, so I usually ask for the roll, that has fried shrimp in it. The Shrimp are huge...more like a prawn. I am always satiated, when I leave there, and feel like I am with family, while there. The best server they have is Tommi! She is half Japanese, and can communicate so well, with Shin, that if you sit elsewhere, and you have Tommi as your server, you know, you will get the correct, and delicious meal, for which you asked. On my birthday, if I come to Tsunami, Shin gives me a dessert. That is how familiar they are with me. Love the people there. read more

Bar used to be cool, and now it sucks. They gutted the high end Asian look and now it looks like something a weekend carpenter put together. Terrible. I've been here a few times and waited to write a review to be sure I wasn't misguided. I can definitely say I wasn't, I'm an avid sushi lover and have easily been everywhere the low country has to offer; this is among my favorites. Genuinely good deals and a good sized menu, not small but also not nauseatingly big. I started coming on Wednesdays and come to the bar (which is fully stocked) the bartender Aleece is probably one of my favorite bartenders I've had. At the very least give this place a shot. Oy. This place was bad. I had to walk to the bar to refill my water, the food took 2 hours and the wasabi was brown.

This place did everything right that one expects from a restaurant. The place was clean, the sushi was fresh and delicious, and the staff was friendly and attentive staff. Would come here for sushi anytime. The only reason it didn't get the 5th star is because the non sushi dishes were a little greasy then again what place doesn't do that. I'm sure they would've cooked it a little healthier if I had asked them too. read more

I don't know how to rate tsunami, everything I have eaten has been great but I have witnessed two horrible things done by a waiter when I was at the bar. Two weeks ago, I saw this waiter with gray hair, gray mustache, a small beer belly getting sake from the bar for his table. He did this by putting 4 fingers INSIDE four sake cups across the bar and into the restaurant. I thought, wow that is gross, wait until the customers see that! They will surely send that back. . Tonight was even worse. While I was sitting at the bar, I saw this same waiter using his forefinger to wipe and fingernails to scrap food from again INSIDE the sake glasses and serve the drunks. This is vile! Just wanted to warn everyone about the server, I tried to complain but apparently there wasn't any manager working. Let's just hope he washes his hands in the bathroom. read more

I had the hibachi shrimp and fried rice meal. it was absolutely terrible. The shrimp were so over cooked they were like chewing on a ball of rubber. The rice was bland and had no flavor. I've heard the sushi is good but I was with a group that didn't like sushi so I felt it right to pass on that idea. I probably will not go there again after my first experience. Wasabi will be my next Japanese restaurant I try. read more

I been here several times and the service is bad. It is slow even on the dead nights. I went last night and there was one other table that was seated. We got our drinks (water and a sprite) right away so we weren't ready to place our order. We told the waitress we need a minute to decide what we want. She never came back to get our order. We waited for 30 minutes. We grew tired of waiting so we decided to pay for my sprite at the hostess's stand. When we told the hostess how long we waited she didn't apologize. I know it wasn't her fault but it seemed like no one cared. The whole staff had this attitude of that isn't my table so not my problem. read more

I was in for my first time with a couple friends and unfortunately we all ordered the shrimp hibachi, well we got two and split some apps but the food wasn't worth the money or the wait. The staff seemed more focused on talking to each other or checking their phones. We never saw a manager walking around to tables checking in on them to make sure we, and everyone else was happy with our meals which suggests poor management. And our silverware and dishes were dirty. We had to ask twice for clean silverware. It made us all wonder if this was what they were bringing out, how dirty is everything we can't see? Was in town visiting and stopped here for my last meal. So they have good lunch specials...$3/4/5 sushi rolls which are plain but exactly what it states. Very simple and therefore how they are able to charge so little. There was a group of 9 of us and I know it's a little harder to get all the food prepared and out at the same time but this experience was ridiculous. We all got our soups at the same time. And then it all went downhill. The server forgot my brothers salad which she remembered 30 min later, at which time about 3-4 people had gotten their food. I never received the sushi roll I ordered and after pointing it out to the waitress at the end of our meal she told she would go punch it in. After I repeatedly said I didn't want it anymore.....I don't understand why she kept on insisting. Some of us got the steak lunch bowl and they said it was ok. The Szechuan spicy chicken was probably the best meal ordered. I, as well as a few others got the spicy chicken bowl. If you want fried chicken that is smothered in a mayo/hot sauce blend them this is your kind of dish. I was not expecting fried chicken and the amount of sauce that was on the dish was overwhelming. This should be stated on the menu or have the servers tell customers when they are ordering. For an Asian restaurant it is quite unusual for there to be fried chicken......just a suggestion but make it a point on the menu so that food isn't sent back. Yes the food is cheap but less than mediocre in my opinion. So half of the table got their food and were done eating before the the other half even received their food. I have never been out to eat and have seen a place that allows for the food to come out so staggered. Maybe if you are a couple or small group will this place suit you more but not for large parties. read more

We love the crunch & special rolls. Tsunami has many lunch & happy hour specials: rolls for 3-5 dollars. A really good deal. What needs work: decor- is very 70's, the background music varies between rock and country and sometimes is too loud. read more

Come here every Monday for half price food and bev night! I work in the business and am pretty understanding with service, food, etc. They have amazing appetizers! I almost always get the vegetable potstickers because a close friend of mine is a vegetarian and always comes here with me. They are to die for. As for sushi, my favorites are the dynamite and the pheonix.. I'm a big fan of fried sushi. The last couple of visits here have been a bit disappointing. I usually don't get off work until late before heading over here so that might be a reason. They close at 12, though, so there shouldn't be any excuse as to why the service has been so horrible. We don't get checked on for the first 15 minutes, took half an hour for food, drinks were refilled ONE TIME. After eating it took another half an hour for our waitress to check on us again. Left super angry. Food is amazing, service not so much in the late hours. Come early and maybe you'll have a better experience. read more

Let me start by saying that my boyfriend and I go to Tsunamis all the time, at least once a week. I'm in the food and beverage business as well but have never felt the need to complain until tonight. We love to go for happy hour because it is such a great deal, so of course we got there around 6:55 tonight and was not even greeted by a server for 10 minutes , even though there was only one other table in the whole dining room. So, my boyfriend asked would we still be able to get happy hour because we were there technically on time to which the server replied no. We decided to leave because this was not the first time we were ignored for more than 5 minutes after sitting down. As we left the server was talking about why we were leaving to the hostesses in an rude tone. It's unfortunate that they truly do not understand good customer service since the food is good for the prices. read more

My wife and I stopped in for lunch right as they were opening today, hoping for some good sushi. First, there was some sort of "old house" smell that lingered about while we sat down for lunch. Second, the waitress had to look at the menu to figure out what the most popular rolls were. Third, when the food arrived, it was poorly prepared and plated. We ordered four different rolls, all of which tasted the exact same. While we watched our food being prepared behind the sushi bar, I observed one of the chef's smelling the fish. If you have to smell the fish to determine whether it's still good enough to serve, something is wrong! Needless to say, we won't EVER stop in for lunch or dinner again. The manager/host spent most of his time on the phone and gossiping about who was recently interviewed for what job and left customers waiting at the front door to be seated. The smell, poor excuse for sushi and the lack of professionalism are all reasons why we won't be going back. $39.00 down the drain! read more

I'm in love with the ginger dressing. Really like that I can purchase it by the tub. If you order a chicken dish go ahead and get the white meat up charge is worth it, otherwise you end up with that not so great parts of the bird. Ask for extra teriyaki as well they have become rather stingy with it. read more
