While waiting, sent an email and read news on my phone. After what felt like a long time, checked when I had sent my email, and it had been 30 minutes. Gave another 15 minutes before I gave up waiting and asked for the check and left. Didn't get my sushi but I had to leave. No idea if it would have been tasty or not, but I DID see what looked like takeout orders being filled ahead of me, while I waited. The tofu teriyaki I had was fried very nicely but for $20 I got 3 triangles of tofu. Kids menu was at $10 so we opted to share our food with our baby. This place is amazing! Its located right next to the target. I reserved a table for a party of 6, a week in advance. My cousin wanted to order a sushi boat for her birthday. And this place actually has sushi boat specials listed on their menu! This place has so many options for sushi in general.. obviously, we were only focused on the sushi, haha. Upon walking in, we were greeted with smiling faces and seated right away. We order a few apps like edamame, shumai, and gyoza. All were very tasty! For the main course, we ordered the chef sushi boat special. The presentation was so fun! We loved to eat so it all went down super fast. I was still peckish so a few is us placed another order. We also got the spicy tuna roll, oyster roll, and lobster roll. I absolutely loved the oyster roll! It was different and so fresh! All the sushi was very very fresh! We ordered sake for the table. Since my cousins and I are dorks, we found their sake containers so fascinating! What innovative technology lol! It was cold sake and to prevent the ice watering down the sake, there's an indent on the opposite side that keeps the ice separated and the sake cold. I posted a pic of that on here also. Anyways....... The staff was wonderful accommodating myself and 5 of my cousins. They were so attentive! I don't remember saying that it was my cousin's birthday but they somehow knew! Maybe by observing or something? So, at the end they surprised all of us by giving a complimentary sushi roll and birthday girl ice cream and a candle! So sweet and thoughtful of them. It really made the event much more special! The staff hands down was spectacular and as well as the food! I definitely recommend this place regardless of the occasion. Been here a several times with friends and have thoroughly enjoyed my experiences every time. The sushi rolls are so tasty and flavorful, with a wide variety of options to pick from- I highly recommend ordering their combos and personally favor the Firefire roll. The fish portions are so generous, it is so normal for sushi restaurants to skimp out on their cuts so I rarely justify ordering items like nigiri or sashimi- but that is not the case here as you get so much value in what you order. Thick, fatty cuts of yellowtail sashimi are a must get when I come here. Story about my first time trying yellowtail here further down! I never had anything that tasted fishy or off, and have enjoyed a wide variety of other items as well when I want to mix it up. My guilty pleasure is the tempura udon soup, an understandably puzzling order from a sushi restaurant but one that I shamelessly slurp down with every one of my visits! The service is familial and warm, the servers very kind and accommodating when it came to recommendations or meeting any requests. On a recent visit, we were accommodated for by the owner who was so considerate and engaging in conversation. She asked us where we were from and what items on the menu we've enjoyed most. She even brought out additional ginger salads and complimentary yellowtail sashimi for us to try after she told us how different of a texture it was compared to the salmon belly we ordered. Very kind and just happy to provide us a good service. I see some of the reviews below that convict the staff and owner here of rude comments or behavior, and I question their judgement because in my experience the atmosphere here is so warm and Ive only ever seen other clientele enjoy a relaxed calm meal with nothing but considerate and familial service happening around me. Perhaps a culture difference has made others quick to judge, but personally Ive only ever experienced and noticed a grateful and humble attitude from the staff. As a family owned business, I feel appreciated and valued as a customer here, and always felt treated like I was family as well! Our takeout experience was not good, but dine in was a big improvement. -the tuna was maguro, which is what I asked for the first time and later learned in owners' response that it was bluefin. I know bluefin is expensive, but I don't like bluefin. The maguro was good. The spicy tuna was good, as was the beach role. Ordered too many roles and had to take lots home. Wow. This place gets busy!! Decided to pop into Tsunami Sushi last weekend for dinner after driving past it for many years. Upon entry it was much more lively than I expected (for a strip mall spot), and I was pleased by the old school jams playing in the background. We were greeted by a friendly hostess/waitress who sat us at a table towards the front of the restaurant. Had I known how busy they'd get, I'd asked to be moved far far away!!! Everything was fine for about 15 mins when we put in an order for the yakitori and then...pure chaos!!! Since we were sitting near the hostess stand, all we could hear was the continuous pinging from online orders, the many phone calls, and the delivery drivers were piling up waiting for orders essentially hovering over us. At first I thought it was a good sign that they were busy because.. that must mean the sushis good, right? *sigh* It took 20 mins for our sake to come out. I had to flag down two waitresses to have them check on our order. We ordered the sushi within 15 mins of being seated and one hour later... WE WERE STILL WAITING..FOR SUSHI (as I watched all the to go orders go out)!!! I was trying to be patient but at that point it was absolutely ridiculous. At that time I flagged down a waitress (because they weren't providing any updates) and asked for our food to go. She apologized and about 10 mins later our food came out? Either our order got mixed up somewhere or they were prioritizing the online orders trying to clear out the delivery folks who were also growing impatient. The waitress offered us a little discount and some miso soup to go with our meal. When I got home, the hot rolls and cold rolls were in the same box steaming.. UGH. And the roll I ordered didn't have the ingredients as listed on the menu. I feel like they just threw something together and gave up! This place is kind of a hole in the wall? Smack in the middle of a busy shopping center is this cute little sushi restaurant. Right when you walk in, you are greeted with an array of christmas lights that make you feel warm and cozy. You'll probably be greeted by the owner and she is just a delightful person. She is so kind and so hard working. From taking and delivering orders to rearranging the chairs, she is working nonstop to make sure you get the best experience possible. My gorgeous date and I ordered the boat and boy were we satisfied. It was so much food we had to actually take some home. The fish is fresh as can be! This place is a serious bang for your buck. The toro is so rich in flavor and the assortment was just stunning. The wasabi is just the way I like it. Great causal spot to go to without having your wallet hurting. I always prefer Japanese/sushi restaurants that have a good variety of other meals besides sushi and was happy to find that it was the case for Tsunami! They had other entrees like curry, don dishes, sukiyaki, tempura, and udon. My udon came out after my salad in a steaming hot pot and was chock full of noodles and yummy green veggies. It was plenty filling for me and I was full and happy by the end. The staff are incredibly nice and I didn't feel rushed at all to empty my bowl. The service was friendly and helpful, which was necessary since we had a few questions about the 3 different sushi menus (no complaint there, though! We loved all of the options). There was a huge variety, and we tried some things that were new to us- like one had "broiled cheese" on top - a little different, but we are still glad we tried it. They go pretty heavy on the spicy mayo, but scraping some of it off isn't a huge deal. We went for sushi, but I was pleasantly surprised by how wide-ranging their menu was outside of sushi. The only thing missing from this amazing sushi bar is a sushi bar you could sit at and eat. Yes, there's a sushi bar but if you sit there, you're looking at a wooden wall.
