Pho suon bo va nam - pho beef rib and brisket
    Hannah N.

This fairly new restaurant is located in a somewhat isolated shopping strip off Beach Street. The dining area is surrounded with lots of windows being at the end of the building so the interior was bright with plenty of sunlight. The staff was very welcoming and patient as my friend and I stayed a while after eating to talk and catch up. They were accommodating and did not rush us out. I was in the mood for pho so I ordered the beef rib pho for the unbelievable price of just $16. The broth was good enough to fulfill my craving but as always with restaurant pho I was not wowwed by it. The beef rib was meaty and definitely the highlight of the dish. My friend ordered the beef short ribs and enjoyed it. We also shared an order of eggrolls and shrimp rolls. Eggrolls were just ok as well as the shrimp rolls which had a cream cheese filling. They did have an interesting oxtail hot pot I would want to try next time.

Honestly I was a little pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Haltom is very overpopulated with Vietnamese restaurants and has some very well established places that people have been going to for decades. This appears to be a new restaurant as I had never seen it before. The interior is very nice and clean with videos playing on the side walls of different Vietnamese dishes being made, this all made for a great ambiance. Service was quick and very friendly from everyone that I interacted with. The Rocket Shrimp were very good, I have never had this dish before but it reminds me of a cream cheese rangoon wrapped around a piece of shrimp. I ate them all! The iced coffee was also very delicious! Now here comes my one critique, the pho. Its not bad, in fact I would say its one of the better bowls of Pho I have had, the problem is there are much much better bowls of Pho 2-3 miles down the street that are also cheaper. My biggest criticism on the actual pho is that the broth is SUPER oily and I feel like they could have done a better job at scraping the scum off the top. Maybe they want it like that and im out of taste but thats my opinion. The noodles were kind of heavy as well, almost like udon more than rice noodles. The meats were actually pretty tasty though, big slices of brisket, steak and meatballs however I do think they go a little light on the portion for the price. If I am paying $14 for a bowl a pho I would expect about 30-40% more meat in the bowl. All in all, it was a fine experience and I hope they have success in the area, but for me personally, I will probably continue going to their tried and true neighbors.

A good afternoon late lunch. Wanting some rice and pasta salad to pair with the meal. I know I didn't order a proper Vietnamese dishes but these were plates of good food. The Korean short rib with tender, the papaya salad was fresh with a nice kick to it. Washed everything down with a creamy kick of Vietnamese coffee. A great pick me up after a whole day of work. Definitely coming back to try their BBH next.

We had a great experience at Anh Long! They served traditional Vietnamese dishes like Pho, Bun, and different hearty soups and stews. It was Saturday at lunch time and the place was packed. The restaurant was very clean so that was very appealing. I will return to try one of the chef special soups for a larger group of people.

Had lunch here with a couple of friends and boy we were surprised. The place was amazing. The staff and the ambiance was both friendly and inviting. The food was amazing. We had several appetizer which were great but the star of the show was the pho and that beef rib, amazing!!!! I will definitely be coming back without a doubt.

We have been meaning to visit this place since they open especially when they had the BOGO beef pho but schedules were hectic around that time. Now, that the crowd has died down and schedules aligned it was time to check it out. Like always, we try to stop in when it's always the dead hour. Sometimes we feel sorry doing this. This is the crew get a breather, time they can sit down to eat and get a little break from the lunch rush but it's the best time for us to dine in when we don't annoy other patrons when we take an obnoxious amount of pictures for Yelp and the gram. It' has a nice open and bright space, great for all those pics. Taking in all natural light. I had their shaken beef. It was good but there's no "wow" factor. I've had better ones but I can honestly say their Vietnamese coffee is one of the most balanced viet coffee I've had. It was creamy, sweet and the coffee isn't acidic in taste. It was perfect. They also offer Vietnamese hotpot which is rarely seen in DFW. That might be the next item to try when back in the area.

I visited Anh Long Kitchen for grand opening weekend, arriving around 4pm on a Saturday. As a party of 2, we were seated quickly with no wait. They were offering buy one get one free pho for a couple days so we were excited to enjoy the deal! We tried ordering a cafe sua da/vietnamese coffee but they said they didn't have any. For apps, we ordered their rocket shrimp and chicken wings. The rocket shrimp comes with sweet chili sauce and is like a crab rangoon with shrimp inside - very delicious and so crispy! The chicken wings came out piping hot and the sauce reminds me of a sweet chili sauce mixed with fish sauce. Since the wings are saucy, they're not crispy but the chicken itself is moist. The flavor wasn't bad, but the sauce is not my fave so I probably wouldn't get them again. We ordered two pho dac biet which is their combination pho. The meats are very tender, and I love their meatball. The broth is a bit on the saltier side, but with a squeeze of lime it helped enhance the flavor. I've tried a lot of pho places in the DFW area, and this pho was not bad. It's definitely not one of my top picks, but what makes them slightly more unique is their house chili sauce which I highly recommend trying if you like some spice. The staff were friendly and the service was good. Overall, I wouldn't drive out of my way just to eat here but if I'm in the area and crave pho, I'd come back! They have a beef rib pho which I'd be interested in trying next time!

Go food to-go since I was on a time crunch. Great food provided by a cheerful and helpful staff. If you like spicy, you gotta ask for the house special chili paste. I bought a jar because it goes great on everything!

Clean inside good egg rolls and Peach Tea. I just stopped in for a light snack. I order from uber eats to pick up.

    Outside

Decent food. The pho ga is quite good with lots of chicken. The grilled pork is very good, but the only thing that I wish they had was the pickled carrots in Dicon. The place a place looks very modern in nice and clean. There's service was only so so so but typical of asian restaurants.

But, as Happy Lamb Hot Pot demonstrates, things that are great in theory aren't always that way in practice, Here's how it works. The first step is to choose a soup base from about half a dozen varieties. You can have one, two or three different types in the same pot (although adding a third will cost extra). Then you choose meat: chicken, beef, lamb or pork. They also offer some premium cuts of beef for an additional fee. Once those are ordered, you visit the buffet where there's a wide selection of seafood, vegetables, sauces and even some foods that don't go into the hot pot, like chicken wings, sesame balls and fried rice. While I loved the fact that there were so many options, it quickly became apparent that some were much better than others. For example, the chicken and lamb were fine, but the non premium beef we got was not the best quality. The seafood and vegetables from the buffet were fresh and plentiful. However, the items that were not hot pot-able left something to be desired, like spring rolls that were cold in the middle, or dried out, overcooked fried dumplings. Our group was big enough to use separate hot pots at our table for a total of 4 soups. The Thai Tom Yum soup base was hands down the best and most flavorful of them all. The worse was the original marrow broth, which had a pungent sour flavor that basically made it inedible. I'm sure through trial and error a fantastic meal could be constructed from what's available here. But, for the price, I won't be in big hurry to return and make the effort.

A quick note on seating: the patio is lovely in theory, with the optional open windows and a breezy feel, but the chairs are not winning any comfort awards. Inside booths are the move. Also worth noting, this is Fort Worth, and once the thermometer hits triple digits, the patio conversation ends itself if the windows are open. Plan accordingly. Malai starts every table with steamed sticky rice and an eggplant dip, which is a charming little ritual and a genuinely good one. We also kicked things off with the Edamame, a heads up on the heat level there, and the Fried Imperial Rolls, filled with ground pork and shrimp and served with a sesame soy sauce. Fair warning: these do not photograph well and arrive at the table looking a little shy. Don't be fooled. They're flavorful, subtly spicy, and well worth ordering. For entrees, we tried the Basil Vegetable Fried Rice two ways, one vegan and one with chicken. The vegan version was a genuine surprise, with vegetables cooked just right and a flavor that didn't need the chicken to make its case. The mushrooms, however, had the texture of something you'd find in a hardware store. Chew at your own risk. The Green Curry, meanwhile, was a case of too much of a good thing. The curry was so heavy-handed it drowned everything underneath it. Sometimes restraint is a virtue. Save room for the Banana Pot de Crème. It's creamy, subtly sweet, and a graceful finish to the meal. The service at Malai is enthusiastic, and I do mean enthusiastic. The staff works as a team, all smiles, attentive, always nearby. Occasionally a little too nearby. More than once a plate nearly disappeared before we were done with it. It's a small complaint, and honestly a far better problem than the alternative. They're warm, cheerful, and clearly enjoy what they do, which goes a long way. Portions are generous, so order a few dishes and share the wealth. For a lunch stop between shops, Malai Kitchen punches well above its weight.
