I'm glad we did because Dante's is quite a vibrant local hangout to check out whether you live in the City or not. We went there during their Martini Hour and managed to grab two seats at the bar. And it was bustling. If we wanted a table outside or inside, we would have had to wait at least an hour without a reservation. So we had luck when we arrived a little after three in the afternoon and found a couple of seats. The front room, where the bar is located, boasts a classic, stylish aesthetic, buzzing with activity as patrons and servers go back and forth with orders while the bartenders produce cocktails. The back room is the primary dining area with both booth and table seating. Since we had already had lunch in the Financial District, we came here for drinks. They were standout drinks, such as "The Dirty" and the Chocolate Negroni I ordered while we were at the bar. A refined, deconstructed take on the classic martini made with Grey Goose, Cinzano 1757 Dry Vermouth, and a touch of olive oil, "The Dirty" is served with a small side carafe of olive brine and a separate bowl of olives. The presentation lets you tailor the saltiness of the olive brine and garnish to your exact taste as you sip. A very exquisite experience, which I enjoyed immensely. Dante's Chocolate Negroni was an inventive, magical cocktail crafted with Brooklyn Gin, Faccia Brutto Aperitivo, Mancino Rosso Vermouth, Crème de Cacao, and chocolate bitters. The Negroni was a good contrast and the right next drink after starting with something salty and savory. Between the inventive, high-caliber cocktail menu and the infectious energy of the space, it's a spot well worth returning to for a full lunch or dinner.

The server was friendly, and the spot is small, with one of my only complaints being that it was way too loud inside. If I were to go back, which is likely, I would either have an early or late dinner, or sit outside in a comfortable month to avoid the rather deafening audio. In terms of drinks, most of us stuck with water, with one person getting a pink colored drink, which she enjoyed. My RW appetizer was the Battuta di Fassona with hand-cut Fassona beef tartare, hazelnuts, shallots confit, bagnetto rosso, and marinated egg yolk. Apparently, Bagnetto rosso refers to a slightly spicy Piedmontese sauce with tomatoes and anchovies, along with plenty of other herbs and things, which added an aromatic, lightly spicy, and slightly sweet-and-sour flavor to the beef. The tartare itself was soft and tender, with a nice mix of textures. This was very tasty with a nice portion size. In terms of other appetizers from the RW menu, a couple of others ordered and enjoyed the Panzanella, while another liked the Crochette di Parmigiana. Outside of said menu, someone ordered a dish I don't see on the online sfizi/small bites menu, which had whipped ricotta and figs on some type of crusty bread. My main dish was the outstanding Risotto al Granchio with aged Acquerello rice, lump jumbo crab meat, roasted red peppers, and bagna cauda. The rice had a lovely texture with plenty of sweet crab on top, while the sauce on the bottom had some wonderful umami, which was all enhanced by the roasted pepper. This was easily my favorite dish of the night, and it was also the best risotto I've had in ages. I don't see this on the menu otherwise, and I hope they add it or similar variations, as I would order it again in a heartbeat. As a side, I got the $14 Spinaci al Burro, with sautéed spinach, butter, and Parmigiano. The spinach had a nice texture, but I found the flavors pretty plain without much of the salty cheese, so I probably wouldn't get it again. I also tried a bit of someone else's $33 Pappardelle al Brasato di Cinghiale, their take on a classic Piedmontese dish. The pasta had a nice texture, and the bit of meat I tried was nice. From the RW menu, others enjoyed the Bistecca and Branzino. For dessert, I got the Bonet with chocolate and amaretto flan, chocolate mousse, caramel sauce, and an almond cookie. The flan was bittersweet, which I preferred, with a mildly alcoholic taste from the amaretto. Otherwise, it had a soft texture and paired nicely with the slightly sweeter and very chocolaty mousse. The Amaretti/cookie was a pleasant addition. Someone else ordered the Panna Cotta and liked it a lot, which I wasn't as interested in ordering from the menu, as it came with white chocolate. I can see why others like this place a lot. Outside of the noise, we had a wonderful meal here. I would definitely go back, as this is probably my second-favorite RW experience in recent memory and easily my favorite among the Italian spots, with the others being Da Andrea and Alice.

The restaurant had a wine dinner series called "Between Bottles," which included a recent pairing hosted by renowned wine expert, Andre Mack, of whom I am a big fan. I immediately wanted to attend the event, though I also knew that my partner was a fussy eater that had a tough time with tasting menus. I saw that the reservation page noted that the Chef tried his best to accommodate dietary restrictions, so I emailed to confirm. I let the team know about his particulars, and the staff graciously agreed to oblige swapping them out, which was so special! I was thrilled to be able to finally experience one of my culinary adventures with my companion. When we arrived at the restaurant, I just let the staff know that we were the reservation that had requested the special menu, and they had the custom version printed and ready for him! We were escorted to a large communal table by the front window, which was a bit removed from the dining room on the other side of the bar, so our group had some privacy. When Andre arrived, he sat right in the center of the table, engaging the rest of us as if he had known us for years; it was truly an intimate experience. The sommelier, Sam, was also involved in explaining the wines and acting as an additional resource. Jodi, the general manager and wine director, similarly made herself available and had had a hand in crafting my partner's special menu. Honestly, the staff here was incredible! Anyway, now on to the actual dinner. We were served three wines for each of the three savory courses, which was much more generous than I was used to! We were seated in the corner booth and celebrated my friend's birthday. It was supposed to be two additional birthdays, but both celebrants were sick. We started off with cocktails: my friends had Belvedere with diet coke, espresso martini and Soapbox social. We enjoyed them. For the appetizer we shared the Farmstead Ricotta with radicchio. Portion was small. The ricotta was divided into 3 pieces. It was pretty good. For the entrees we ordered the Roasted monkfish, roasted duck and steak with butter. Everyone loved the entrees. You cannot go wrong ordering the monkfish, duck or steak. For dessert we shared the baked Alaska which was served tableside. There was no dessert menu because it changes on a daily basis. My friend got a complementary dessert for her birthday. Service was on point. They were patient and accommodating for a birthday celebration. The only issue I had was there was 1 bathroom stall inside the restaurant, which was always occupied. There were more bathrooms on the 2nd floor where I believe the Living Room Lounge was located. Food, service and ambiance was great, no complaints at all. My friend picked this restaurant for Instagram worthy photos but personally I was not impressed as it did not wow me.
