Figured I'd try this place after hearing so much about Hot Fried Chicken all at once from people raving and even Netflix. I ordered the #2 and got it Dang Hot (a spice option they offer which was one level above medium). I also ordered fries, greens, the mint cilantro sauce, chocolate pecan pie and lemon meringue pie. Lol I went a little crazy but I wanted to try everything. Honest truth? Everything was awesome. Was scared the greens weren't fresh but they most definitely were and they were really good.. The mint cilantro sauce was delicious. I think the most memorable part of the visit was how juicy the hot fried chicken was and the lemon meringue pie. GET THE LEMON MERINGUE PIE! I love this place. To be honest, I wish I could share a picture but I dive in eating way too fast and then it's too late. Their fried chicken is some of the best in town. I go here and Gus's when I want some really good fried chiggen. Very flavorful, juicy, and just enough crunch. I get the Mo' Hot, which isn't unbearable if you're used to spice. The spice was just right enough to add a lot of kick but not taking over the flavor. Their Kale Coleslaw and Mac and Cheese are pretty amazing too. read more

Eh. I had some bone-in fried chicken. It was good, but super greasy, perhaps because what makes the chicken spicy is an oil they dip it into after frying. Ordered potato salad and collard greens. The potato salad was terrible. It tasted like store-bought/institutional food. The greens were fine and would be better if they weren't chopped up into tiny bits. I love the fire in the hole here! Not as hot as I was expecting kind of a slow burn which made it more enjoyable and not a kick in the face. Service was a little slow but they were swamped so can't blame them waiter was very nice and had a lot of personality. Definitely coming again. read more

This might be the best chicken place in Austin. Great chicken sandwiches (go for the Southern chicken with the thigh) and some interesting sauces for the chicken tenders. Terrible service and poor leadership: Not knowing that this place doesn't do phone orders, I called to place an order and the employee that answered ignored me when I asked for the pick up option and told two other options for ordering. So, trying to confirm that it wasn't possible over the phone, I was sarcastically told, "Oh, was that an option?" By that time, I was already there, so I went in to order and thought I'd inform the manager, only to find out that it was the same guy who continued to use an aggressive and patronizing tone and body language, even when he finally, sarcastically apologized. I also found out that he is the regional manager for all 3 central Texas locations. So expect this at any of those locations unless you are lucky to get one of the other staff members that could teach him a few things about customer service. Delicious chicken, we tried collards (YUM!), deviled eggs (loved the hint of horseradish), coleslaw (delish and a perfect pairing with spicy chicken), my daughter said the mac n cheese was tasty as well. We came after they had been open for about 2.5 weeks, so they may be still working out some staffing kinks, but the wait to get the check, (and our to go pie order) took a bit long. Thankfully, the manager (I'm assuming) saw me gawking around and came over to assist us. Overall, it was a terrific experience. My only complaint was that when we got home and finally tried our pies, they are topped with an absolutely flavorless whipped cream. I make whipped cream from scratch, but I add a small amount of sugar and a healthy dollop of vanilla, they apparently do not. The pie was delicious (lemon chess) but tell them to leave off the whipped cream. read more

Wow. Just wow. I've been hearing about the trailer for a while and when a friend told me they were taking over the Twisted Root spot, I was excited to try it. Holy cow is this place good. I sat at the bar and got very good service. I ordered the Southern Chicken Sandwich (chicken thighs!!) at the suggestion of a friend. I chose "hot" as far as the sauce goes because I wasn't yet familiar with the scale of hotness. Hot was just right for my taste buds. The sandwich itself was enormous. I think there were two thighs in there, I don't remember. Perfectly fried. As for the side, I just went with fries and they were safe. I also chose the comeback sauce to dip them in. Very good. The other bright spot was that I got to chat with Nick Foles' dad. Super nice guy (he owns/partners the place). Can't wait to take others there, this place can not be overlooked. read more

In Austin where there are so many food options you would think they would be a little more courteous or care to want to serve you and start of the right foot of opening a business. It was ALL HARD and really not edible for 5 dollars.. how could that person look at that and think that's fine to give to a customer. Wow. Just wow! This chicken made me really happy!! I've been wanting to try Nashville hot chicken for a while now, so when I saw this place on Yelp, I drove straight there. I placed a to-go order at the bar, and since I had a long drive ahead of me, I decided to opt for a chicken sandwich because I knew I would be unable to wait until I got home to eat it. I believe I ordered the OG, and I opted for "dang hot." It was everything I hoped for and more...Perfectly spiced, juicy, flavorful chicken topped with pickles, Duke's mayo, and a delicious slaw on a buttery bun! Heavenly, I tell you! This used to be THE spot for Nashville style hot chicken in Austin, but they've been on the decline. Their chicken isn't hot and their service is dreadful. I am torn between 3 and 4 stars so lets call it 3.5. The first time we went we ordered the hot and it was really good. Well evidently they have changed the heat settings and there was nothing that really told us so we ordered hot again and there was no spice to it by comparison to the first time., The chicken has a nice crisp skin and is moist and juicy. Food was delicious! My only complaint is the lack of actual beer menus for outside diners. The waiter had to list them out without any kind of description, so I just picked some random local beer that ended up tasting like Miller Lite (not my jam). Eh...well... I have been thinking about this place for weeks and finally went. Was seated with my wife and we waited....and waited...and waited. Finally a waitress came over and asked if we had been helped and offered to take our drink orders. We told her we were ready to order everything. After we ordered the food did cone out quick and hot, which was nice. Chicken was good although I wished I went for highest spice level and left off avacado and cheese...as the cheese was an afterthought. ..just a cold slice on top. They forgot the extra sauce that we ordered for the fries, but brought it out after we notified them. By this time we were well into the fries though. My wife had 2 sides with her meal and asked for double fries as I wanted some.. ..what came out I "think" may have been doubke..not sure. After we got the bill we saw 2 dollar up charge for the fries order. It seems that fries as a side is a dollar more..we did not know this , and was not informed of it when we asked for the fries...although it may have said so on menu, we did not see it though. It would have been nice to have been informed of this, even though 2 bucks is not a big deal..MI just think that is good waiter/waitressing to say something to your customers. We were also chafed for the sauce that came out late and thought because it was forgotten , it would not have been a big deal to comp it ( .50 cents). I had been to the food trailer downtown before and was very impressed. It seems like the food and prices here was almost exactly the same as the original location with the addition of a few menu items like salads. The Nashville hot chicken is excellent, I'd suggest Dang Hot if you usually get hot at most wing places and Hot for more of a medium heat. I would have really liked to see how hot the Fire in the Hole level was, but they do not allow you to have just one piece of a meal as a different heat level. The potato salad is one of the best sides and helps keep the heat from the chicken in check. We were a bit disappoitned to find that the day we went the happy hour had been shorten and the food deals were removed. An definite issue with the new brick and mortar location is the service. Our waitress was not very attentive and disappeared for long periods of time, it took forever for our table to be cleared and get the check. Hopefully, service here improves as time goes on. This is sure to be one of the more popular spots on Burnet. read more

Chicken is AMAZING. I seriously wanted to eat dinner here after eating lunch here. Service was not great-we were ignored until my husband flagged down a waiter. The place was full of dirty tables. Another Larry Foles restaurant hit! The decor is casual fun, a bit eclectic, very clean with indoor and outdoor seating. We tried a lot of things on the menu..... so good! The Hot level was definitely spicy but fine for all us. The chicken sandwich is one of the best in Austin, the Big Larry Margarita might also be the best frozen margarita in Texas. The white chicken plate was the juiciest yet crispiest chicken ever and the skinny fries were hard to stop eating. All in All, a must try place when you're looking for casual fun evening and great food - mostly chicken! read more

I honestly crave T22 all the time now! I ordered the dark meat with a side of fries and Mac and cheese. The chicken was soooo crispy and juicy! The Mac and cheese were just the right amount of cheesy goodness and for dessert, my friend and I tried the chocolate pecan pie and let me tell you, it has opened my eyes to the world of pie. We have never tried pie outside the national holiday of thanksgiving, but this chocolate pecan pie was honestly really good! My boyfriend and group of friends went last night to Tumble 22. It took an hour and a half to get our food delivered, (the restaurant was NOT busy), the waiter never once came to the table to ask if we needed anything, and on top of that, did not tell us that groups over 6 were not able to split the check. As you can imagine as the hefty bill came out we were thoroughly surprised that they were unable to split the check, as well as adding an automatic 20% tip. As if this wasn't already a long night, both my boyfriend and I got very sick quickly after eating the food. I left a piece of my chicken on the side uneaten after thinking it tasted "off". We won't be returning due to the horrible customer service, and food that made us both sick. read more

Listen up! This chicken is too good. It is seasoned to perfection and crispy without all the extra batter that you find at other chicken places. You can order whatever spice level you want. I prefer the mo' hot, which is the mid-spice level. My first time here was a very pleasant experience. Our waitress offered up a full description of the menu and their offerings. She answered all my questions like a pro. (I like details about the sides and how they're prepared. Sorry :() Get the Mac in Cheese! It's gooey and has a baked top. Their cocktails are also tasty. This is a really good place. Nice ambiance inside with a inviting and tasteful bar area. There is a good amount of comfortable outside seating with TVS set up. The chicken is great. I got a 1/2 Chicken at Mo Hot, and it was a perfect amount of spice, definitely not too hot. Those that prefer genuinely spicy dishes should opt for hotter than Mo Hot. The chicken was seasoned perfectly, an there was a spicy yet sweet and smoky tone to it. The batter is crunchy and this inside of the chicken is moist. The barbecue beans are solid, and the mac and cheese is really good. Overall a great experience for chicken fans, and the positive dining experience plus chicken will have me coming back. read more
