We're moving from Chicago to Houston (where I lived until 2010), and I wanted to wow my fiance with a place that has a similar feel to his beloved RL Restaurant on Michigan Avenue. Well, Houston doesn't have a Mag Mile, but Post Oak is as tony as there is in the city, and Turner's seemed to have that similar dark-room-framed-paintings atmosphere. Initially on walking in, he was impressed I'd found a place with a similar look & feel, then the nonsense started. K, they are back to their old-school jacket-required thing, fine. He hadn't packed a jacket in his carry-on for 95-degree weather in Houston, but OK. The staff was courteous and friendly enough, so that was sorted out. We had reservations, and thank goodness, because there was not a table empty. We were seated at a charming two-top....under the craziest Arctic blast of A/C I have ever felt in any building anywhere in the world. Guys, if I walked my dog outside in Chicago in February, it would've been less cold & windy. I cannot overstate this. The heat of the day had lifted and it was quite a pleasant night, so much so that we did a 45-minute walk after dinner before bed. So there was no need for that mess. You think I exaggerate? The A/C a good 15-20 feet up BLEW OUT OUR CANDLE. The server couldn't even relight it due to the blast. We don't get cold easily; we once walked down to the Chicago River on a 5-degree day just to see the river frozen, and my eyelashes froze on the way, but I was fine because I was . . . dressed for the weather. The bread was excellent, as was my mocktail. Server was friendly, attentive and courteous, but there wasn't much to be done about the A/C. I am just glad I wasn't one of the many women in there wearing a strapless dress. I'd brought a blazer, and I was still so chilled down to the bone that I suggested we skip dessert. We never skip dessert. But first, the entrees. This man can devour an Ol' 96-er sized steak in 12 minutes flat, and I knew something was up when he wasn't murdering that beef. My heritage chicken & dumplings and the potatoes au gratin we shared were pretty cold, but I tell you what--I'm sure they came out of the kitchen hot. It was THAT frigid in there. BTW, my dumplings weren't cooked through. I can cook a fair amount, and I could've flavored and cooked a better dish than that. Chicken was excellent, but it was an inconsistent dish. Weird. And look, I LOVE the soft tinkle of a background piano, but when you have a relatively small space, a piano player banging it out like it's a Dueling Pianos bar and a singer out-yodeling Beyonce (that happened), it makes for awkward "HEY LET'S SHOUT SO WE CAN HAVE A CONVERSATION!" dining. They were both great, but their volume needed to be about 2/3 lower. I'm not usually a complainer; I have far more raves than rants, but this was a big miss of a night. The noise was in fact so great, that after we declined dessert and I mentioned that we'd just like the check as I wasn't feeling very well (i.e., I'm about to get the car from the valet and turn on the heated seats--literally did that later), the server brought us a dessert anyway. We had not only not ordered one, we were itching to get out ASAP and thaw out. So IDK how he heard that we DID want a dessert and which one it supposedly was. I leaned over the table and said "THEY WON'T LET US LEAVE." This place has potential if they can sort out their atmospheric issues and get some fully cooked hot dishes on tables that will actually stay hot. When I first made the reservation, to be honest the live piano music was the thing that caught my eye. I was planning a romantic night out for my anniversary. When we arrived we were greeted at the front and show to our table where a card was sitting to congratulate us on our anniversary. Which I though was very sweet. Upon sitting I was given a stand to place my jacket and purse. After this we were greeted with warm towels to wash out hands. Which was a nice tough. Our waiter then introduced himself and began to go over the cocktail and dining menu. I tried the pimm's cup. Which I though was actually pretty good. The drinks are strong but good. Warning you are going pay a pretty penny for your meal but I will say I think it was worth it. The chocolate cake was amazing! Incredibly underwhelming and overpriced sum this expletive up. I do have to say that the service was very good and our server was incredibly nice and attentive. The food is average, at best. We tried the octopus which was completely ruined with the barbecue sauce and overdone, the land and Sea was good but it wasn't amazing, the beef tartare and the foie gras were also just average, The spaceIs beautiful With a southern old charm, dark navy walls, beautiful art and leather seating and well decorated but they need to get rid of the fake flowers that are everywhere and ruining the scene. The prices were astronomically high, a shot a Mezcal with club soda was $28 was as a McAllen 12. We also indicated that it was our anniversary, there was no special treatment, whatsoever. read more

Chilly rainy Sat, I arrived 5 mins to Four....when the bar opens and the door was locked. Since it had a big old knocker on it.....I knocked... A lady came to the door...eyed me up and down like I had something stuck to my shoes......and Shouted....We are closed, still setting up and slammed the door shut. Well....it was raining and I had just valeted....What should I do.....I just stood there... Precisely at Four....I heard a click.....That's it.....No.....We are opened now.......Please come in.... I debated if I should leave however I had fought that Westhiemer traffic to get there....so I stayed. Had the T's Martini and a burger....btw is is far LESS superior to Pappa's Burgers on Westhiemer however far more Expensive ( almost $30.00). The Martini was perfect. Loved the atmosphere...vibe...and music...& the the friendly bartender with the Russian accent. However....Won't be Back.....Too many other choices in Houston....Cheers...!!! read more

We had a delightful celebration meal at Turner's! The foie gras, waldorf salad, filet, and coconut cake were my favorites. The waldorf salad in particular was so tasty--sweet and savory at the same time. I heard many great things of this restaurant and had to try it. Same owner as The Annie Cafe & Bar located upstairs. Very nice decorated dining room. Reminded me of a members-only club speakeasy. Various pictures hanging on the wall thoughtfully chosen and placed. Food and alcohol were overpriced. Dinner menu had steaks, seafood, and [hamburger/hot dogs/reuben sandwiches???]. BE SURE to look at the pictures of their online menu so you know what you are going to get. The pictures were quite accurate. Wait staff were attentive in the beginning, but then nowhere to be found when needed later on. The piano with live singer was a nice touch. I probably won't come back to this restaurant. The $75/per person no-show fee was a bad taste from the beginning. I do recommend trying it once. read more

The bar is great it only has a few seats because it's a small place but it's nice to have a drink there before you get to your table. Their signature special recipe old-fashioned is quite good. I'm surprised about the mixed reviews here because I personally had an amazing dining experience! The wait staff was on top of everything and I truly felt like we were taken care of. It is perfect for a date night out as the piano player really adds another level to the romantic atmosphere. The snapper appetizer and the fried quail were incredible. I was slightly disappointed with the octopus as it wasn't quite as tender as I was hoping it would be. The dover sole was excellent but had a touch too much sauce for my liking. Wow!! I love this place and as a first timer, loved that it is open for lunch (kitchen closes at 2:30 pm. It is a clubby little gem and we joked with our server that we had become "ladies who lunch" because that was the clientele when we visited. We had wonderful food and drinks. My sister and I shared the tenderloin with whipped potatoes. It was awesome. She really liked her lobster bisque as well. The ambiance and drinks are great, I would return just for that: the food however, was so so but not worth the price. I ordered the artichoke soup (good), a vodka martini, glass of Sancerre and the octopus. The octopus was chewy and didn't have a great flavor, warm when served and had a way too salty BBQ sauce. The potato that came with it was half warm half almost frozen which suggests they microwaved the premade dish. I love pulpo and order it whenever on the menu. My significant other had the oysters with caviar that again were over dressed with the cream. We would not return for food given so many great places in Houston at the same or lower price point. Much anticipated and it didnt fail. The atmosphere reminds me of an old school nyc steakhouse starting from the navy blue entrance door to the dining area The bar area is small but cozy. The bartender, Jose, makes awesome drinks. Tried the old fashion and their house special which was a twist on a screwdriver The food and presentation was emaculate. Our server Ben was also a wine sommelier gave us great recommendations on the old/new wine. We tried the lobster thermidor and the ribeye. The lobster was exellent. The ambiance of this place was amazing, one of the prettiest, most romantic and cozy restaurants I've been to in Houston. The live piano player just added even more to the beautiful interior. My husband and I had the oysters, fried quail and biscuits, the cobb salad, chicken pot pie and the cheeseburger. All of the dishes were visually beautiful but the taste wasn't as good as I'd hope. Great taste but lots of bone in the quail & biscuits and my husbands burger was very rare. The bread basket was perfectly delicious, the chicken pot pie was good & the oysters were also a delight. Overall, I prefer the Annie's food menu (the restaurant directly upstairs that's also part of the Berg restaurant group) to be honest but I'll definitely return here for the atmosphere, that cannot be beat! read more

Dear foodies, a new review for you...Turner's, a "speakeasy" themed restaurant/piano lounge is so fun! The door hidden around the corner, opens up to a gorgeous bar. Then walk around and it opens up to the cozy restaurant...it's small, so reservations are a must! You feel as if you were transported back to the golden age...wood paneling, grand piano, and dim lighting all add to the wonderful ambiance...the staff are so attentive, and friendly...my only qualm with Turner's is it's overpriced, the food is excellent, but you can get the same quality for a bit less at other local establishments...but the entertainment definitely makes up for the hole in your wallet lol...we started with oysters, they were delish... I got the Waldorf salad, I loved the combination of flavors in it...it's a pretty big size too...I then got the salmon pot roast, which was actually good, unusual yes, but delicious. We ended the evening off with a couple of desserts, they were excellent. The best part were the piano players...they were so entertaining, they take requests, and did not disappoint! Regarding the food and cuisine we were HIGHLY disappointed Across the Board! The mash potatoes were not silky but runny. The meat loaf was more than stale and had a very hard texture. The filet steak was not the cut they sold us. It was tough and lacked flavor. They divided it in two by cutting it strangely. There is not private conversations to be shared with your romantic wife. I was placed by the piano so having conversation with my wife was impossible. Artichoke Soup and Burrata also outstanding. I had never had Lobster Thermidor before but WOW so good. It is a very rich and filling dish. We also had the Filet which was cooked perfectly. They have the best biscuits and gravy THE BEST. For dessert we had the Coconut Cake which was big enough for two or even more people than that. Extremely good and nice to have another cake option on the menu. All the servers were super nice and everyone goes above and beyond. We had a 6:30pm reservation and we were not rushed at all. This is a hidden gem, if a little expensive, on Post Oak. When I say hidden, it is not obvious from the front where this restaurant is. However it is well worth seeking out. Wonderful small and intimate room with a pianist playing music results in a relaxing atmosphere. The staff are attentive and the food is excellent. Like many good restaurants the menu has limited items with no clear theme. I had the mushroom tartlet on my first visit which was nothing short of delicious. I returned the following evening and sat at the bar, we started with notably fresh oysters. My wife enjoyed the tartlet and I tried the Carbonara which was Al Dente if slightly over seasoned. read more

This is the most incredible speak easy like restaurant I've been to. My boyfriend and I went last night and have zero complaints. The ambiance is dark and sexy with live piano and singing. The food was exceptional and Oscar our server was kind and attentive. We had the salad, hot dog setup (don't turn away from this... amazing) and wagyu steak cooked to perfection. This restaurant is hidden but a good find. It's small and dark atmosphere makes it for a cozy romantic date. The pianist adds a nice touch but it does make it hard to hear anyone while he is playing. I was a little disappointed with the cocktails. The food was just ok. Nothing was really great or gave me a "wow" factor. I would like to try their brunch. Went to Turner's as a last minute thought. I had read about Turner's and had plans to eventually go. Decided last minute to call for reservations. No seating available but José, the manager made it possible to find a table. Let me begin by saying that I really liked the entrance off to the side of Annie's. It gave it a speakeasy-ish feel to it. The entrance goes straight to the bar which is quaint and tasteful. Not to mention well stocked. The table was set right in front of the piano which made the experience even more enjoyable. The music selection was outstanding. The pianist took requests from some tables which I thought was very nice. The menu was diverse and simple. You aren't overwhelmed with ten pages of menu. The wagyu steak was fantastic and so was the artichoke soup. The coconut cake and the coffee were incredible. The service gets a 10! Perfect evening. It was a dark and stormy night... and while that may sound a little corny, it was actually the case and a perfect night to stop in to this incredible new bar/restaurant for a Friday afternoon cocktail. The first thing you notice is the attention to detail in the bar area. And make sure you look up or you'll miss the phenomenally carved monkey chandelier. And then once you turn the corner... Wow! This relatively small hideaway is exquisitely appointed. While I was only here for a drink, the menu looked so incredible that I immediately made reservations to celebrate our 33rd anniversary. Actually our anniversary was in March; but we have had to reschedule three times with another restaurant due to the Covid mess. Clearly, it was meant to be to celebrate our anniversary here! So getting back to the stormy night business...it was actually a perfect night for their Blood and Sand cocktail. A delicious mix of scotch, antica, cherry herring, and orange... and garnished with a nice sliver of dehydrated blood orange. And to complete the ambience, the sultry and sexy sounds of 40s lounge music is softly played in the background. I hesitate in pressing the send button on this review because once the word gets out on this Houston gem, one may need several weeks for a reservation just to sit at the bar. So while Houston is slowly getting out of the Covid doldrums, you need to quickly experience this restaurant without the crowds. You can thank me later... read more

After a few mins I called back again and was sent directly to voice mail. I had some questions about the dinner as it is for a special dinner that reserving through Open Table wouldn't be sufficient. This restaurant allowed me to make a reservation on OpenTable for a day that they were not even open. It was for a birthday as well so you can imagine the disappointment when we realized it was closed. I even got confirmation texts asking me to confirm that we would be attending and the restaurant made me give a credit card number to secure the reservation. I tried contacting the restaurant after the fact via phone and email and never received a response. Very disappointing. read more
