Don't come HUNGRY! We came in on a Saturday morning at 11:15am. There was a lot of people waiting but for 2 of us it would be a 15 minutes wait. When in fact it took 35 minutes to be seated. Waitress brought water within a few minutes of sitting at the table. My husband ordered a regular coffee and his came right away however mine was an Irish coffee it took 20 minutes! Food took 40 minutes ! My husband had the Wilbur Skillet and I had the Freebird , it was worth the wait!!! Delicious and generous portions But I would have liked the food to be hot and not lukewarm . On the outside you are in the concrete and macadam fields of the Mercer Mall. Step inside and you are in something akin to an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. Bright white walls. Period pieces. Glass and mirrors. Marble bar. Polite servers with every hair in place. Could easily be summer in Southampton at Gatsby's mansion. The coffee offers several exotic choices. All you want. The breakfast menu provides unconventional twists to traditional dishes. From Crunchy Monkey Pancakes, to Bananas Forster Waffles (Bananas & Dark Sweet Rum), to OMG French Toast (Pumpkin Cinnamon Mascarpone), the options are as entertaining as the grub that reaches your table. I went with the Grand French (Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Fresh Cream, Cinnamon and Orange), just to keep it relatively simple. It arrived at my bar stool in a large white plate, small cup of butter and deeper dish of syrup on the side. The taste was good, and the thickness of the bread was really more than I could manage. The coffee kept flowing and I was even given the balance of my pot to take away. Definitely a superior take on breakfast, and the price reflected that. Everything is a factor more expensive than your nearby diner, but the quality is a fair exchange. If there was any weakness in the experience it was on the margins. The syrup did not taste like maple, which would have been a very nice finishing touch. A short stack alternative would also make sense for some, and it is probably available with the asking. Otherwise, Turning Point is a step above most café/luncheonette emporiums in the area. The service is superior and engaging. The excellent coffee is the caliber of most coffee houses that don't have the kitchen options. It is definitely a good meeting place, and is being used as such. Brunch... The most important meal of the weekend. There's not a huge amount of good brunch places in Central Jersey, so I was pretty eager to try this place. Located in Mercer mall, Turning Point is a breath of fresh air from the crappy diners you'd usually find in a strip mall. It's newer, modern and they have a pretty progressive menu. The line on a Sunday is pretty long, but thankfully it moves pretty fast. I had the banana foster waffle that came topped with rum sauce. I also had a side of ham. The waffle was good, but I've certain had better. It was also luke warm and the rum sauce was a little on the thick side, though it was a nice addition. The service was truly excellent. I was a bit of an annoying customer in terms of not knowing what I wanted, but the waitress did an excellent job helping out. All the servers actually seemed to show really good service from I saw at other tables. This place is definitely a good option from a brunch/breakfast standpoint. It's definitely worth trying other things on the menu as well, which I will be doing. read more

It's been like way over a month since I visited this new Turning Point in Mercer Mall but it's been YEARS since I've wanted to go and I'm so glad that happened finally! Turning Point is only open till 3:00 so you really have to be on your day game to get there but when you do, it's breakfast all day. You know, until 3. One thing that is amazing about this concept is that the guest is in total control of the menu. With few exceptions, you can sort of pick and choose what you want. Like, for instance, if you want eggs and bacon, cool. If you don't want toast, that's fine, you can replace it with a pancake. BUT when you replace it with a pancake you can pick one of the TOTALLY INSANE toppings options like berries and chocolate, lemon and blueberries, bananas and other stuff!!! It's good to be the King. I was in more of a lunch mood when I went so I wanted a sandwich. They have a Pick 2 option where you can get half a sandwich and half a salad, soup, OR YOU CAN GET ANOTHER HALF SANDWICH OMIGAHD. Which means that you get to try TWO menu items for essentially the price of one. Oh yeah. That's what I'm talking about. Rahim took care of us when I was there and he was extraordiNARILY thorough. He knew the menu really really well and was super well versed in all the ins and outs of how to be in control of one's order. It was super helpful. He also recommended a coffee drink, which I was like super okay with because coffee isn't just a morning beverage, it's an all day one. It was hot so I ordered an iced coffee and when it came out the ICE CUBES. WERE MADE. OF COFFEE. Genius. Everything was delicious, I had the Monte Cristo, which was basically a salty sweet French toast sandwich with turkey that I dipped in syrup (it's a better dipping choice than the strawberry compote) and I also had a tuna salad sandwich and it was seriously wonderful tuna salad. Like I'm not even playing around and, just in case you were wondering, I'm a tuna snob because my tuna salad is equally inspired. Just sayin. I wish this place was here forever instead of just opened up because lemme tell you, shopping at JoAnn Fabrics as a kid with my mom was pretty much like torture because everything is boring and there's nowhere to sit down. Came here twice over the years and really wanted this place to succeed. The first time I came here, I recall finding hairs in my food and not just one but a few too many. The second time was about a year later and I decided to give it another chance. Well, while we were digging in my friend found bits of plastic wrap in her french toast and I found eggshells and a shard or two of broken glass hidden in my egg yolk, which likely could have led to a lawsuit. The staff was attentive despite whatever was going on in the back of the house, and apologized profusely for the experience. They wrote us "free meal passes" for the next time we were to come, but 3 years later and I just don't think it's worth another shot. read more

We loved the fresh squeezed orange juice! I like that they have a free coffee station and candy for kids at the front where people wait for their tables. I enjoyed two small cups of coffee before they took us to our table. The staff was very kind but did not check on our table often enough. Lovely brunch yesterday & special kudos to the manager for taking it upon himself to remake my sister's gluten free frittata, because he had not personally witnessed it being made. When he brought it out he told her it was made with love! How can you not be impressed? I had house coffee, and they shared a French press of Costa Rican. One had the GF frittata & the other lemon blueberry pancakes. I had the delicious Wilbur skillet. Service was perfection as was the food. One star penalty for having packets of smuckers jelly at a place that serves $10 French press. No excuse for crummy jam at a place that makes food with love. There's a reason that you'll wait 30 minutes to get a table here. This is a brunch restaurant that focuses on breakfast and lunch options (no bar). Like the chain that has a similar concept, this restaurant has a decor to make you feel right at home - almost like you're at a relative's house and they're cooking you breakfast. The menu has everything that you'd expect to have at a place like this - eggs, omelettes, waffles, pancakes, freshly squeezed orange juice, french press coffee, and more. There's also a nice selection of lunch entrees if breakfast isn't your thing. It's nice to see how engaged the staff is here - from the server, to the bus boys, to the manager, everyone is friendly and wants to serve. Only thing i don't care for - and this is common in many restaurants like this - is how you have to wait in line at the cash register up front to pay. A limited menu means everything is made to order from scratch. I am addicted to the blueberry pancakes, and my boys love their french toast. My wife is an omelette girl. I had high hopes for this restaurant but was very disappointed. I ordered breakfast - eggs, sausage, hashbrowns and toast. Everything was very salty, the hashbrowns were deep fried cubes of potato, sausage links were quite small and only ONE piece of toast came with my order. Never have I had breakfast at a restaurant and only one slice of toast was served. The silver ware and glasses were dirty and we had to request new silverware and glasses. The service here was slow, the hostess wasn't the friendliest and the food was alright compared to the other places. First, it took about 15-20 minutes after we were seated to get water. It took about another 20-30 for our actual food and took 10-15 for our waitress to come back and give us the check. The turning point in little silver is by far the best. I love the turning point restaurants, but I am 100% sure that I am not coming back to this location. In order to have happy customers, try having a friendly hostesses and waitresses. Fresh food, good coffee, well sized meals, and decent prices. Tasty skillets! I came here twice so far. The first time was OK but not stellar. To be fair it was during a weekend rush with a 45 minute wait for two. We got the corn bread French toast which was good but small as well as the pesto infusion skillet which again, just OK. Round two was a weekday morning and the place was far less crowded. We got the standard skillet and the Popeyes skillet with their seasonal French press. This time around it was amazing! Prices are pretty standard compared to a full omelette at a diner. I would put this at the top of the list now for breakfast places in the area. Apparently it's a chain? I liked the indoor seating area it was very quaint and cute. This place has an awesome menu! They had some unique things, but mostly their HOT CHOCOLATE! They had peanut butter hot chocolate and it was so good, I mention it to someone any time anyone mentions hot chocolate. They had a nice selection of coffees too. However, their blueberry lemon pancakes sounded better than they were. I mean they were really good but they really only tasted like blueberry pancakes which is ok, but is it great? I had to come back and update this review. I went back to Turning Point (against my better judgement, but my Aunt suggested it and I didn't wanna be difficult and extra). So we went and the SAME young woman who had previously been so rude was our server and she was a completely different human being. She was pleasant and smiling and making suggestions. Basically it was a great brunch and great service. I sincerely hope that whatever she may have been going through before is better now. She seemed much happier and we had a totally better experience. Competent but uninspired although a few dishes, like the sosulka (eggs over spicy tomato compote) were very good. Their standard coffee is mediocre at best. The Martha's Vineyard salad is AMAZING! I tried their lunch combo of half soup and salad and even for a half size, the portion was perfect. The fresh mango, berries and grilled chicken had the perfect texture and chew. The toasted coconut was a very nice touch. I chose the citrus lemon vinaigrette for the dressing and it paired incredibly well. Their turkey chili is quite tasty, hearty and has a great balance of peppers and beans. I wanted to give this place another chance. The food looked nice the last couple of times I visited. Unfortunately, the flavor was mediocre and the service slow and deteriorated in a subsequent visit. It's been months since my last visit so I figured I'd try again. Well, I tried. Our party (of 2) checked in at 11:25 and the hostess said the wait time waa "25-30 minutes". I know wait times are an estimate so I understand when it takes a bit longer for a table. Forty minutes later we decide to see how far down the list we are. There were EIGHT parties of 2 ahead of us. There was a group of "4.5" (their words) that arrived and were sat within approximately 10 minutes. Perhaps there is a way to add your name to the list ahead of time? I don't know. Despite that, the wait was obviously not "25-30 minites" when we arrived if there were 8 parties of two, along with other sized groups, still waiting. We left after about 55 minutes and this place is permanently off my list. read more
