I also tried some of the potatoes from the traditional eggs benedict. The potatoes are cut into large pieces and well-seasoned. The Monte Cristo was flavorful and perfectly crispy. The berries and side salad paired well with it and the overall dish was very filling. The thai tea pancakes were also good but on the drier side, so using the thai tea sauce is a must. The Iced Mango Matcha latte was also a good combo but a bit difficult to stir with a flimsy plastic straw. Overall all of the food and drinks were really good and plated beautifully. When you want a savory and filling savory fresh toast... this is the place. Savory breakfast over sweetness from the french toast was delectable with its custom sauce that was more savory than sweet. We arrived on time and about a half hour after the restaurant opened. The hostess barely looked up when we walked in and continued to work on her computer for several minutes before seating us. Tutu Lounge brings great Asian American fusion dishes to downtown San Rafael! Looking for a new place try in San Rafael, Tutu Lounge appeared as an option. However, what drew me was that their menu had a bit of an Asian twist so I definitely was excited to try them out! My friend and I went on a Sunday around brunch and it was busy but thankfully there was seats for us so we did not have to wait at all. The restaurant is a beautiful space that has an old school European vibe with bold modern pieces adoring the walls. It almost reflected the whole vibe from the restaurant: a little bit of the traditional but mixed in with something new. Here are the things my friend and I ordered: Spicy Tom Yum Omelet (4.5/5) Definitely a nice blend of taking the traditional omelet and incorporating some Asian flavors with the tom yum sauce. It paired surprisingly well with the guryere cheese to provide that extra layer of umami. On the side, the potatoes were fried to a nice crisp with seasoning from the light salsa. The only thing I wished were that the tom yum sauce were spicier! Spicy Basil Chicken (4/5) Although there were other recommended dishes like the marscapone banana pancakes, opted for something more savory which landed on the spicy basil chicken. I thought this dish was super solid hitting the balance of sweet, savory and spicy with the hints of basil. When eaten with the egg and rice, the bite screamed comfort. I would have loved a little bit more spice but otherwise this was a solid dish. The service was super attentive and quick. In terms of parking, there is street parking available. For instance, the Tom Yum Scramble was a brilliant idea--the tangy flavor of tom yum paired perfectly with the scrambled eggs. The pancakes were delightful, especially with the Thai tea sauce. We also really enjoyed the Brussels Sprout Salad (crispy Brussels sprouts with roasted peanuts and cherry tomatoes in som tum dressing), Tom Yum Prawn Linguine, Wagyu Beef Burger, Banana Leaf Salmon, and Ribeye Nam Tok (a medium-grilled ribeye steak topped with larb sauce, herbs, and toasted rice powder). Tutu Lounge is a little East meets West for artsy brunches on the Marin Peninsula. We had a family brunch with lots of eggs bene dishes and sweets around the table. The crab cake and the fried chicken were my favorite versions of the classic New York brunch delicacy. The pancakes with Thai tea syrup and the fried home fries were also standouts for the meal. I do recommend a reservations for large parties here. The only tables open during the weekend were the tucked hallway ones near the kitchen. Service is super friendly and I only worry a bit for the slow food rollout for half the table. Jay Yinger and team did an amazing job designing the layout and decorating the restaurant. read more

I went with my parents for the first time this week. We were pleasantly surprised by our experience. We made reservations, though we didn't really need them. The look and feel of the restaurant is fine, it isn't a stand out or run down. We had good service, it wasn't over the top great, but got the job done. For drinks my mom and I got the peaflower lemonade, it tasted like completely normal lemonade, just purple and $6.50! So I wont get that again, but lesson learned. My dad got the Lychee iced tea and really enjoyed it. For appetizers we got the Chili Crusted Calamari and the Rib Eye Nam Tok Salad. The salad was amazing, one of the best restaurant salads I have ever had, the flavor was robust and round, it was tart, sweet and savory in the perfect balance. The Calamari was okay, I don't think it was really much different than normal calamari and would like to see more the "Chili" For the entree's, this starts at one area of confusion or further clarification needed. We asked if it was better to order individually or order as a table, if you have this question yourself, the answer is share, but we were told differently. The entrees are all easily shared especially with a side of rice, which the sides of rice are a little small, so I suggest ordering one per person. First entree was the Garlic Pepper Prawns, the flavor was amazing and the prawns tasted like good quality. The only negatives, it needs something else with it, it comes with just a bowl of prawns. The Prawns could be a bit crispier and were just the slightest bit under cooked. Second the Pil Khing Gai (Fried Chicken). This was amazing as well especially when it was hot and fresh. The chicken was perfectly crisp and the green beans were perfect with it. The flavor was almost overwhelming in a way, only real note was it was aggressively seasoned and was slightly too salty (and I love salt, i literally have a salt shaker tattoo). Last dish was my favorite, Pork Shoulder Panang Curry! Soo rich and delicious, the pork was fall apart tender and the asparagus was a nice accompaniment (I wish there was more than 3 on the plate), I think they can skip the picked cucumber and carrot they put with it, it just didn't match. They either do not have, or did not offer dessert, and we probably wouldn't have gotten anything, but would have been interesting to see it. We will for sure go back, one thing I would like to see is more of the fusion style meals they have on the breakfast/brunch menu on their dinner menu. read more

So, I was SUPER excited to try this place based on the reviews. My family drive from the east Bay so I wanted to pick a great brunch spot. Unfortunately, the reviews were WRONG! It took over 15 minutes to get greeted, our drinks took even longer and the food took even longer than that. Staff brought one side item out with the remainder of our food coming out 20 minutes later. The food was decent but definitely not worth the experience or cost ($100 for 3 guests). Please save yourself some time and frustration and just don't go. The staff stated they were overwhelmed which is unfortunate as I thought this was a well-run/established business based on the reviews. During our meal we were not checked on, no questions regarding how our food was or if we needed anything. The table next to us was asked several times if they needed something and also had their waters refilled. No one came around with water to refill my empty glass. Our server, when asking for our orders, came up quickly and stood there with the device they use to take orders, barely any words asking if we were ready or if we had any questions about the menu. Regarding the menu...very underwelming. I understand we went for brunch, but their "pacific-rim inspired" dishes were more sweet than savory; I think about 2 savory dishes and 2 sweet. My girlfriend ordered an "Irish Benedict", the base meat for this is pastrami. Another fun fact: pastrami is NOT Irish. Hollandaise was very acidic and not very creamy. I ordered the "Farmer's Scramble" the eggs were over cooked, giving it that "eggy" taste, while the meat was somehow under cooked. A cappuccino was also ordered. Tutu Lounge! Although I believe they are primarily known for their breakfast/brunch items, we came for dinner. We were in the mood for something new, and they delivered on that! We had a curry puff/samosa, vietnamese spring rolls, duck red curry, kabocha squash curry with chicken, and pork shoulder curry, coconut ice cream, and ube lattes. The puffs are very similar to the curry bread I had from Asian bakeries, except the one here is a touch sweeter. Crumbly goodness! The squash curry was ok; it was a little more al dente than I am used to but still good. I personally like the duck curry...it is my favorite of the three we had here. The pork shoulder was tender, but a touch salty. Their ube lattes (we asked for less sweet) was so comforting (especially because it is a rainy day today)! My friend and I were looking for a new brunch spot to try out, Tutu's lounge really stood out because the food looked yummy and something different that doesn't really exist in Marin. When we got our food, I realized that my egg Benedict was more like boiled eggs with hollandaise sauce. My egg were completely solid in the middle instead of runny and the chicken tasted kind of off. So I didn't really enjoy my meal but the potatoes were nice and crispy I'm not sure if I'd try this place again but I'd probably get one of the it sweet breakfast if I did. read more
