I am always on the look out for new boba places to try in the area. The San Gabriel Valley seems to have a new boba shop open every month, if not every week. I've passed by Twinkle Tea many times, but I had never ordered from here. I finally decided to give it a try. I noticed that Twinkle Tea had a food menu also. I had not had plain egg waffles in quite some time, so I ordered plain egg waffles with a Hong Kong lemon iced tea. I was feeling "old school," so to speak. I loved the simplicity of the plain egg waffles. Without having mochi, ice cream, or any powders, it was just the right amount of sweetness. Texture was quite flaky and good also. I fell in love with twinkle brown sugar when it was called OZero. I have always gotten their "Fluffy" Jasmine Green Tea, (before cheesefoam became popular) it doesnt disappoint. The drinks are on the sweeter side, so dont be afraid to ask for 50% sweet! Everyone is so nice and patient there! Parking is convenient in a lot. Every time we come to Monterey Park we try a new boba milk tea place. This one is just a-ok. We ordered black sugar milk tea with boba and lime honey jasmine tea both under specialty. I should've read one of the reviews that said their lime honey jasmine tea was not great. It was actually pretty bad considering the price. It was diluted jasmine tea with two slices of lime. Did not taste honey at all. The black sugar milk tea was fine. Nothing spectacular but decent. Portion is reasonable for the price. I love love this place. Also because I'm a fan of HK milk tea. They're employee is on point and very efficient. Sometimes I come a little to their closing time and they still take my orders without fussing. I'd recommend then anytime, anywhere. Their tea flavors is good and sweetest level is not to be concerned. Never had to go lower. Perfect sz cup for a decent price on a baba cup. Some places are just too ridiculously expensive. One of my go to tea shops! Twinkle Tea has one of my favorite fruit teas and I always get whenever I go and they also have a really good chrysanthemum milk tea that I really like as well. They have a small parking lot but I've always managed to find parking there. One of my favorite things about this place is that you get 10% if you have a Fivestar account and also 1 free topping every drink! But they don't tell you when you're ordering. They do sell a lot of food options that I haven't tried yet but their drinks are definitely worth it. Whoever the girl working the cashier telling me to take my time and explained the drink to me, you're cool. I got the Green Tea Yo-yo for $4. It sounded weird, but it was basically green tea mixed with yogurt which produced a sourish taste, and two piece of lemon inside. It was unique, and tasted sour but as you drink it it started to taste more sweet. I also ordered the house beef sandwich and it came with fries for $7.50. The beef was like a burger beef patty, had egg inside and cheese and some special dressing. Fries were crispy. Food was clean and well packed. Napkin and ketchup in the bag. This place has been here for a while, but I believe the last time i came here was when it had a different name. I dont know if they changed management or anything, but the layout looks the same. This place has a ton of selection of drinks, and they do have snacks that you can order like popcorn chicken. I didn't try their boba, but if I have a chance again to do so, I can update my review later. I ordered the Sea Salt Coffee and it was actually to my surprise pretty good. I am always iffy about ordering coffee at boba places but I would say the coffee did give me a kick. Like the previous location, I would just say that this place isnt that big. The seating and even just ordering, there just isn't much space. I do like the speed in how they get the drinks out, as we did have a party of 6, but got out under 10 min. Overall a decent place to go to, and it is still packed with people trying to work and study inside. I recommend going here if you're in the mood for a milk tea on a got day. I thought was strawberry flavor blended into the matcha. Instead it was half sweet matcha with cut-up pieces of strawberry... super weird! It was a weird combo on his part, not as bad as mine but not far from the cheesecake and watermelon scenario... Thai tea I make at home tasted alot better. My son had the lime honey green tea, adding boba. Not weird, but not sweet at all. I want to be more generous with my rating, but messing up 3 out of 3 is not possible from me. Sorry! ---- Just want to respond to the owner's response here: The kiosk didn't offer sugar and ice level. When I clicked the drink the only option that popped up was 4 additional add-on choices of items before adding to the cart. We're not local customers. We took the drinks back to our hotel which was 5 minutes away so was not going to return to the store for an exchange. The matcha and strawberry pieces together is not a good combo. All three of us took a sip and none of us want to take ownership of it. We have matcha drink often in northern cal and never this bad. Without the option for sugar level all of our drinks should have been prepared with normal sugar level, but ours were not today.... I'm not joking, as the owner you should try all your drinks often and reevaluate... The cheesecake and watermelon scenario was an example I was trying to make, that creamy texture material is not a good combo with high water content fruit, in comparison to your matcha and strawberry pieces together being a bad combo... I was not trying to say your drink tasted like watermelon in them. Sorry for the confusion. When I'm in town again next time I'll give you guys another try. My colleague and I were discussing our favorite boba places and she mentioned Twinkle Brown Sugar and how it was close enough to the office to go during the lunch break, so I knew I'd try it eventually. I finally swung by last night after work and ordered a Cheese Rose Oolong Black tea, and omg it was so good! I love cheese foam and then cheese foam her was good, but even better- my actual tea was amazing. The floral taste was more on the lighter side but still there, and just overall the drink left a good impression. To the point that I came back again after work today and this time I tried the Sea Salt Thai tea, which was thai tea with salted cheese foam. Today's drink was also really damn good. So Twinkle Brown Sugar is my new favorite boba spot near work, and now anytime the bubble tea or cheese foam cravings hit this is for sure where I'll be coming to. Downsides: Parking is limited, but I've been lucky enough to find a spot right away so far. Inside is a little small too. And drinks are a little pricier than other places I usually go to, coming to $5.30 or so after tax (one size). THIRD VISIT: I realized you can pick and choose flavors and create your own custom tea, so I got a Lavendar jasmine green tea with cheese foam and it was amazing! I've been getting into lavendar teas and desserts lately, so I really wanted to try a iced lavendar tea. I initially chose roasted oolong tea as my base (since I liked the rose roasted oolong) against the employee's recommendation and it was too flowery just like she said it would be, BUT she was nice enough to change it right away. Nice little shop with good service! There was a line when we came on a Thursday night, but it was understandable because there were only 3 people working. They were hardworking and tried to get out the orders as soon as possible. We ordered a drink, popcorn chicken, egg waffle, and curry fish ball for a little over $21. In today's economy, that's a good deal! You can order in person or through the kiosk on the s Curry fish balls were delicious for $3 a bowl. There were 5 fish balls inside, and it would be perfect if it came with rice. Egg waffles were a good portion for $5.99. The popcorn chicken was delicious and crunchy. The Girlfriend and I came here to grab drinks , I had the milk tea with grass jelly and she had the sea salt Thai tea. Normally she gets the Rose milk tea and she loves it. Twinkle has been serving consistently solid drinks at reasonable prices for years. As one of the rare boba shops that open late, there's often a crowd at night gathered inside and around the store. Their drink menu is extensive, but they have their basics done right. I regularly order their $3 Hong Kong lemon tea and milk tea. Their standard and more premium drinks never disappoint either. If I'm not in the mood for a simple classic, I'll get their refreshingly tart mango lemonade or one of their decadent boba milk teas. However, in all these years, I had not tried their food until recently. Thanks to a friend who was craving chicken nuggets, we found out that their nuggets are basically better than mcnuggets in every way; they're crispier, juicier, have more flavor, have more robust sauce options, and are cheaper at $4 for 10 pieces. From there, we wondered "well, what about their other food options?" Afterwards, I tried their spam and egg sandwich set, which was solid Hong Kong cafe fare. The egg was fluffy and the spam fried perfectly. Simple, but deceptively delicious. The fries that came with the order were perfectly crispy and were coated in a savory, ever-so-slightly sweet seasoning. I just ordered their beef sandwich set, which might be my favorite so far. It's essentially a double cheeseburger with a fried egg (maybe like a loco moco sandwich?). The cheese is melted and gooey, the sauce is reminiscent of a big mac sauce, and the beef patties are thick and meaty, not dry at all. I am comfortably stuffed. The food menu is essentially superior fast food at very reasonable prices. They're also cheaper than regular fast food combos, especially nowadays. Somehow, this place always looks closed from the outside, since the windows are always dark. However, the place is lively, clean, and thankfully never too hot because of it. The service is quick and friendly. I usually get fruit teas here, and this place manages to balance a nice tea flavor while still having a prominent, non artificial, nor overly sweet fruit flavor. The popcorn chicken was also crispy and the breading was good and well flavored. They ask what sauce you like for the popcorn chicken which won my heart because some boba places do not provide any kinda sauce whatsoever I got the sweet and chili which is about what you'd expect. Takoyaki was yummy but wish it came with a bit more mayo. Overall, this joint has probably some of the better boba snacks. I'm a big boba snacks person so this was paradise. I pass by this place a lot, and I've always wanted to try it so I decided to postmates from them for lunch. This review will purely be based on their food quality and the delivery containment. 5/5 for food and drinks. I have yet to be disappointed by anything I've tried. The sea salt oolong tea or sea salt jasmine is my favourite. The tea is fragrant and the sea salt cream adds the perfect amount of richness. I've had a few of their sandwich items and it's delivered in a standard food box. The sandwiches are made with garlic bread which is a nice surprise. I think its definitely on the heavier side so don't expect a light sandwich if you order this. Man, what happened to this place? I used to go quite often around 2-3 years ago and so many things have changed, and not all for the better. The variety of drinks has significantly increased but the quality is meh. The tea is good but the boba was surprisingly disappointing. I went on a weekday afternoon and it was too mushy and not chewy whatsoever. I believe they put some honey or sugar in their boba mixture and I did not taste that at all. I regret getting the boba, it would have been better to get pudding or something else. They give 10% off if you use your fivestars which is nice but doesn't make that much of a difference. The parking is a bit sketchy so be sure not to leave anything valuable in your car. Would I go again? Maayyyybe, to give it one more try. I was expecting a drink... not a cup of jello? so in my confusion, luckily the worker decided that I can replace it since I wasn't aware of the drink itself, but she didn't seem very happy about it. I personally wished it was described on the menu explicitly about what the drink was... technically, would it be a drink item? but that was also my fault for not knowing what it was. clearly its a popular item for the store but I just didn't know what they were. I exchanged it for a brown sugar milk tea - it was okay. not phenomenal, just a normal sweet milk tea. I also order thai tea and a brick toast. The bubble tea is very good! There is a screen for ordering, or the option of talking the staff to order directly. The inside of twinkle tea is quite cluttered, with lots of storage boxes in the already narrow walkway. There is also extremely limited seating.
