Visiting from out of state. Needed breakfast/lunch before visiting La Brea Tar Pits and LACMA. What a sweet spot we found here at Twist. Hip, open, comfy vibe. Fresh, delicious, reasonably priced food. We each got a salad: the Italian chopped and he got the club salad. Both were fresh and flavorful. Balanced just right! And the dressing set them off perfectly! Served by friendly, pleasant employees. And the chocolate croissant--delectable! Fresh, flaky and deliciously chocolatey! Nothing stale or stiff about it. I ordered food for pickup this morning. My food was very fresh and the ladies who work there are lovely. I will definitely be back since I live right around the corner. One piece of advice for the owners, though. I ordered poached eggs, turkey sausage and fruit. By the time I got home the fruit (which was in a ramekin inside my to go box) had completely obliterated the eggs. Please think about separating the eggs in your to go orders. Good food- bad service. It seemed like the girl taking orders was new because she didn't know how to ring orders in. I looked at my receipt and noticed that she had put in the wrong thing, so she assured me she would tell the kitchen to correct it. When they brought my food, it was the incorrect order. However, the seating is decidedly uncomfortable, the the layout of the restaurant can be confusing on first visit - you have to go all the way back to order, passing the front-facing counter, which seems counter-intuitive (no pun intended). But that's a small gripe really. More annoying are the people from the yoga place(s) nearby. Ye gods, what a crew of over-privileged miscreants. Twist is an amazing eatery with excellent customer service and tasty food. Every time I visit Twist, I'm greeted with a smile and hello from the woman who is behind the counter. She has helped me with questions about the menu, prepared a great takeout bag, and even talked to my mother about small business tech stuff, like using an iPad at the cash register. The space is absolutely adorable and the staff couldn't be nicer. But wow, the food we had was really bland/disappointing. The chicken bowl with couscous had almost no flavor, and the salmon on the salmon bowl was (intentionally) cold, but also very dry and almost stiff. Maybe the salads and sandwiches are better, the desserts did look quite good -- and since they've only been open a few days, I definitely cut them some slack -- but this is no competition for Sycamore right now. read more

After twenty minutes of waiting I had to go in and ask the girl behind the counter (who was on her cell phone) if we could get our iced teas and she said sure. It took 40 minutes for 2 salmon bowls. I like the space and love that it was easy to get into on a Sunday morning. Coffee was good and I like the menu options. On the negative side, the woman taking orders wasn't at all friendly. When asked about which was more popular - waffles, pancakes, or french toast - she just said "everything is incredible." Actually, the waffles were horrible - like warmed sawdust.
