A fantastic surprise is the downtown area of Omaha, lots of shops and restaurants which made it tough to chose, we opted for twisted fork and were blown away by the place. Eclectic decor with wood carved animal heads on the wall metal chandilers and the food was cool too. I had the salmon and was very impressed the fish was cooked perfect and the mushroom risotto that come with it was amazing. My son got the country fried steak that was the best I've ever tried. A smokey flavor that was unique. My wife had a salad she really liked and my youngest son liked his machine and cheese so much he wanted seconds. I came upon this twisted place on a warm winter afternoon (the high temp was 51 degrees). Beautifully lit with chandeliers and accented with red velvet walls, the horse heads gazed upon me at the bar. As I arrived for happy hour, I was happily greeted by Jasmine and followed her recommendation for their $5 (HH price) house margarita. Located in the old market, Twisted fork is my go-to when I'm craving comfort food that reminds me of home. The meatloaf reminds me of my grandma's meatloaf that she made when I was little. Twisted fork pairs their meatloaf with veggies and mashed potatoes that are equally good. I have also had mac n cheese which is some of the best mac n cheese in Omaha. Service is good, but nothing amazing, and the restaurant itself is a little small, which can make it a little loud at times. Not going to lie, I was a little disappointed. I typed in happy hour into my yelp search bar and this was one of the restaurants in the area. And since our first choice was closed for the night, we decided to give it a try. Their HH menu isn't bad but man did I make the wrong choice. I was intrigued with their vegetable infused vodka. When I asked the waitress how it was served, she made it sound like it came in a little glass. I was thinking it was served straight or with some cucumbers. So what did I get? I got a bloody mary which is completely not what I was expecting. I hate returning drinks so I sucked it down. As a bloody mary, it needed more seasoning and heat. But eating meatloaf and fried pickles does not go with a bloody mary. 3 stars then for a really yummy appetizer of fried pickles and the even more yummy mac and cheese that came with my meatloaf. But the meatloaf itself was not good. It tasted like it was made awhile back ago. And if it was made that day, I apologize, but it seriously lacked flavor. It felt like I was just eating smooth warm tofu. The mashed potatoes were good as well but the stand out was definitely the mac and cheese. Patio ambiance is tight on space and tables are very small. Service was slightly slow as I had to get up a find our waitress to order dessert and ask for the ticket. It was rather empty for a Monday at 2pm in mid-December. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves. We ordered the chili relano and the mac & cheese. The chili relano was just ok, flavorful enough, but felt something was missing. The mac & cheese was a little bland, but that could be the fact I prefer it really creamy. I felt that if the cook left the mac & cheese in the oven for just a few more minutes, that would've done the trick. There were some cheese pieces that weren't fully melted. Prices were fair/average, about $10-$12 per entree. Service was excellent. The guy was attentive, but not hovering. I can't say that I'll come back again if I'm visiting Omaha. read more

About a year ago it was suggested to go for their brunch. I had an AMAZING Strawberry Cheesecake French Toast entree. It was a great suggestion and my husband and I planned a day date to go there after Farmers Market. BAD mistake! Had I not known there was supposed to be strawberry cheesecake filling, I would not have found it - and certainly not tasted - to say nothing about not even a strawberry slice for garnish. Waitress didn't come back after our first few bites. I asked when she brought the check if they had changed their recipe or if I misread the menu since I tasted NO STRAWBERRIES. She went back and asked the chef if he put any strawberries in the entree to which he replied 'No'. She then asked if I wanted some strawberries to take home. Seriously? I called the manager on Monday when I thought they may not be so busy. He did not care and just said 'I'm sorry' but his tone made me understand he didn't care. Won't be back! A close friend was there after our first visit - she, too was not impressed her 2nd visit and I didn't believe her. Well - I do now! After the waiter took all the orders, he returned and said they only have white toast! I made a comment about that and soon after a man who appeared to be the owner or manager came to the table and treated my request as if it were totally ridiculous. It seems so difficult to find a restaurant that offers a grilled pork chop that is not sweet. The Twisted Fork has one on their menu that comes with bacon gouda gravy. Sounded perfectly savory to me, and I can say it did not disappoint. The restaurant itself has a laid back western type feel to it, and although it was busy on a weeknight, the service was spot on! My pork chop was grilled perfectly right down to a few crunchy bites of fat on the side. I know it sounds bad but just a little fat that told me the pork chop had flavor. Seasoned and grilled perfect not over cooked and dry. Oh and the bacon gouda gravy...yum! It was served with baby red potatoes which were also really good, and grilled asparagus that was just a bit too large and woody for me. Paired perfect with a glass of pinot noir! So delicious that I forgot to take a picture! My dining partner had the meatloaf and loved it. It was served with the gouda mac-n-cheese as a side which I tasted and immediately ordered myself a side of this creamy goodness. OMG...so delicious and creamy. I rarely finish a meal but came pretty close on this one! We decided on the apple and pear crisp for dessert. Sounded deliciously perfect however the fruit was a bit undercooked and too crunchy for the crisp. Great flavor though. Overall everything was very good. I will return soon!! read more

It was a cherry lime mule, it was great, I'd recommend if you like mules and want something a little different. It had pieces of cherries in the drink and topped with a cherry and lime. A coworker ordered the bucks fried pickle burger, it was huge and came with 2 fried pickle spears, he enjoyed the burger. Another coworker ordered the cowboy French dip, he said the beef was pretty dry and he wouldn't recommend it. BLT WAS HUGE on Ciabatta bread with more B than I've ever seen on a BLT outside of my kitchen! Wild Mushroon dip was over-the-moon and such a great accompaniment.
