In town for work and love being in the Old Market area! Have been wanting to try this place for a while but always seemed to be sidetracked by another place! Tonight I was on a mission and that mission once again paid off as this area of Omaha has some killer places to eat! Twisted Fork is on that list! The atmosphere is great, we had excellent service from Stephanie and the food was outstanding! We got the pork chop and the pitchfork meatloaf and Gouda Mac n cheese! Portions are excellent and the price is beyond fair for the quality of food and the amount of food! The drinks were not weak and the prices are extremely fair! I'll be back to try the coffee dusted salmon as that was highly recommended! The wait time for food did suffer a little bit despite the simplicity of our menu items and the restaurant was mostly empty. In addition, the first dish came out room temperature. First time to Omaha and while checking out the Old Market District, I got hungry and came here on a Monday afternoon around 5:15. I did not get served until at least 15 MINUTES LATER and the restaurant was half empty. And when I did get served, the server was not friendly at all. Then there was a couple of diners who came in and sat down in front of me; they got served within ONE minute. I'm not certain if this was due to the fact that I happened to be the ONLY Asian person there and the rest were Caucasians including the couple in front of me. They had at least 5 servers so the restaurant was not lacking in labor. Then hoards of diners started coming in, they were served within 2 minutes and they were all Caucasians. Moreover, the host had a personality of a brick. He was not friendly and did not thank me upon my walking out the restaurant. Then my food came... it was not the best rib-eye I've had. I took my date here last weekend and it was a good experience. I had reservations so we were immediately seated. We even showed up a few minutes before Happy Hour ended so we got a couple drinks and the nachos app from the HH menu. All were very good. The nachos were awesome. We headed to the Old Market on a recent Sunday and stopped in at The Twisted Fork for an early dinner. It's hard to get a real sense of a place at 5 on a Sunday afternoon, especially one with "Saloon" in its name. Our reception was a friendly one, and with a reservation, we were seated fairly quickly. There were, perhaps, two other couples at this hour, and it was very quiet. From the layout and structure, I imagine it can get very loud when crowded. Cocktails were quick and strong, and there were a number of interesting items on the menu, but both men opted for chicken fried steak and both women went with Truffle Chicken Pistou. The chicken came with Brussels sprouts and garlic risotto. I'm usually not a fan of risotto, and have never cooked it, so I'm not sure of the accuracy of my critique, but this was very stiff and not very creamy. I've always thought from watching cooking shows that creaminess of risotto is what you aim for. The flavor though, was delicious. The chicken, like the risotto, probably was over cooked, and was very dry. The pistou? What exactly is that? Something like pesto and something like chimichurri, and something very necessary to add some flavor to that dry chicken. And finally, the Brussels sprouts -- delicious! For dessert, we had creme brulee. It, too, was delicious. And we left on an almost happy note, as a result. read more

Every step of the lunch (which we hoped would be pretty quick) was painfully slow. Ordering drinks, receiving food, getting drink refills, then finally getting our bill -- almost every time we had to flag our server down to get anything done. Food was just okay. I had the grilled salmon sandwich. It was so drenched with mayo that it was disgusting. I tried to scrape it off, but there was really no salvaging the bun. The ambiance is casual/rustic but with chandeliers (which somehow works), and I have always found service to be fantastic. However - whether I ordered an appetizer, a sandwich, brunch, or the steak, I was never truly satisfied. The portion sizes are good, but the taste is just ok. Overall, this wouldn't be my first choice for food. They offer good happy hour times (3-6pm and 9pm-close everyday except Saturday) with specials on food and drinks (cocktails, mules, mojitos). The twisted tots are really good! I love meatloaf - so I ordered the meatloaf with Gouda Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese wasn't great - thin sauce. And the meatloaf had the consistency of dog food that had been baked and then put on the blacktop and toasted. ‍ No savory sauce - dry. I had to ask what kind of meat was in the meatloaf since it was hard to tell. Meatloaf shouldn't have a smooth texture. My husband had the fried pickle burger - the ingredients on the burger were good - but together, not great. The 2 large deep fried pickle spears on the burger made it a greasy mess. The thick cut bacon was great, but overall a bit of a disappointment. I have eaten at the Twisted Fork several times, even tho I am not from Omaha. I've 'introduced' it to several friends and family members throughout the years. Not only is it located in my favorite area of Omaha, NE (their Old Market district) it's pretty much smack-dab in the middle and a perfect spot for walking to shop, people watch, and even bar hop a little after or before dinner. I've had sever different dishes when dining. A few that really stick out in my mind are their macaroni & cheese, the stuffed chicken, and their martini list. I think the stuffed chicken was a special (I love it when restaurants have specials that change all the time-shows off the chef's skills) but the Mac & cheese is always on the menu. It's truly the best I've ever had. I've had it plain, with chicken, and with lobster. They have a very delicious martini menu. I had a sour candy inspired martini once that was beyond amazing. I actually treated my friend's bachelorette party to a round of those one visit. They were all very impressed. (Not with me! With the martini! LoL) It's intimate and adorable. Small bar and small bathroom, and I've always had to wait unless I've made a reservation. They do online reservations as well and the manager actually emails you back. It's wonderful. The only negative I've ever experienced at this restaurant is my mother-in-law once ordered a meatloaf special and she didn't care for her meal. Said the meatloaf was dry. That's it. Food and drinks were fantastic; service was a little stingy. I was downtown with my family, and my uncle recommended this place. We had 9 people, and the hosts here were not very accommodating. Initially, they said they could accept parties up to 10, but then that number shrunk to 8 when my uncle tried to make a reservation. Eventually, they sat our party of 9, and I thought the fuss about party size was odd, because they were not busy, and a whole row of tables in the center were unoccupied. I ordered the Fried Chicken Salad and a Dark and Stormy, which was on happy hour special for $5. Food and drinks were very tasty. I was impressed. Don't skip their famous Fried Pickles. We waited an hour and 15 minutes from when we sat down to when our food came. We arrived at 11am on Sunday right when they opened and we had a reservation. We were seated within 5 minutes. Immediately we could tell they didn't have enough severs because nobody took our drink order for about 15 minutes. Drinks took a long time to make it to the table. We put our orders in for food quickly ( as quickly as we could since the waiter was so busy) because we had a show at 1pm a few minutes away and didn't wanna push it. Our food didn't make it to our table until 12:16pm. 1 hour and 15 min after we were seated. Food came out cold, the coffee sucked, my Bloody Mary was so strong it was not even drinkable. I can respect a heavy pour but when it makes the drink taste like I'm taking a shot every sip while eating brunch I'm not with it. I give 2 stars because the huevos rancheros was super good. My 8yo daughter who isn't a big meat eater wanted my chop more than her own Mac n cheese. The service was exceptional, our waitress as so polite and patient with us.
