Located on the northern end of Old Town Camarillo, this wonderful gastropub has provided me with many a great meal and various beers. It is my strong belief that the hamburger is the foundation of any gastropub; if the burger is flawed the rest of the menu is too, but if the burger is heavenly..... I've had all the burgers here and I must say, St. Peter is tired of seeing me at his pearly gates. 'Merica, Forager, Mac N Cheese, PB&J, Ol' Smoky Jo, and their signature Twisted Oak; they all have lusciously raised my cholesterol levels along with their truffle or garlic fries. The atmosphere is lively and the service is usually top notch. The bartenders are friendly and usually have a heavy hand when pouring your choice of spirit. The selection of self-made beers have a great array of various flavors; stouts, IPAs, blondes, and reds. Their Happy Hour (3pm to 6pm) is very reasonable with a good selection of food to choose from. Located in Camarillo's Old Town is Twisted Oak & Brewery. We enjoyed an unplanned Valentine's Day dinner along with two toddlers. We did not have reservations, but had a last minute urge to celebrate (aka this momma didn't want to cook). They accommodated us well and we scored a table and patient server. They even had live music (super talented acoustic guitarist). They offered a nice V-Day menu but we went right for their upscale bar food offerings. I mean if you are going to splurge why skip on the Mac N Cheese bites? Everything was tasty. We ordered the mac n cheese bites, coconut shrimp, crispy chicken sandwich, and kids chicken tenders. Please do yourself a favor and order the mac n cheese bites. They are fried perfection and satisfying. The coconut shrimp were good, but I prefer a bit more coconut in mine. Hubby devoured the crispy chicken sammy and loved the Fresno chilis on it. Kids tenders were good, but not great. All in all a great way to spend Valentine's Day indulging. I have been for their happy hour and they have good deals. Will be back when the cravings hit. This is one of our go-to spots for happy hour. The beer selection is great and they always have a cider available for my husband, who's an avid cider drinker. Small plates and specials are insanely good. Food is hot and fresh, not only does it taste incredible, but it's visually stunning. This is always a plus for me, as we eat with our eyes first! The flatbreads have flavor and great crust. The Bread pudding is indulgent and magical. Try it and you'll understand. Vibe is chill. You could come here for a relaxed evening or special occasion. The flatbread was amazing. The Moscow mule was awesome. Hubby had the Avery Ellie's brown ale. He liked it. He also had a salad. The music was cool. Nice atmosphere. We asked Becca if we could perform there for acoustic night since we are musicians who live by the restaurant. We gave her our card and we did get hired to sing. Twisted Oak Tavern is an absolute amazing dining experience. My husband and I live an hour and a half away. We drove to Camarillo to go to the Imaginarium and decided we wanted to try a new restaurant. Wow! I am terribly jealous that our town doesn't have a restaurant at this skill level. Our waiter was one of the nicest human beings we've ever met. The atmosphere of the building is really neat. The lighting was perfect for me, kind of dim but still had plenty of natural light. The main event of the review is the food! I am one of those psychopaths that like to dissect the menu before I visit an establishment, and I looked over this menu for about a week. Both my husband and I knew exactly what we wanted, we had a game plan! We walked inside and to our surprise it was October fest (which really should be Oaktoberfest.) They had a specialized menu for the occasion and this threw a wrench in our well thought out plan. Immediately, my husband saw that they were serving pork schnitzel. I knew in my heart I lost him....we weren't sharing the beer braised short ribs anymore. Now we had 2 dishes to share, sure it was more expensive but now we have left overs baby! Anyway the pork schnitzel was delicious. The crunch of breading was perfect, the cutlet was moist ::insert more culinary impressive words here::. The beer braised short ribs blew my mind! Absolutely delicious. Fork tender. Definitely give this dish a try! We did try two Appitizers (we had a game plan! I'm telling you, we went way off track) The buffalo cauliflower was the best I've ever had, and I will get that anywhere that offers it. The Saigon sliders were amazing. Look, I don't write food reviews... I can only say delicious and amazing so many times. Do yourself a favor and go try their food. It will change your life. I promise. Also, the jalapeño strawberry margarita (both of them ) gave me the courage to write this review. Which that drink was amazing too! I barely drink alcohol and I loved it! Our lovely waiter said "do you want another one?" And I know me, my husband knows me. I should of said no. I said yes before he could process what I said yes too. I think I drink once a month ...maybe and thats usually half a can of a hard seltzer. I drank both of these margaritas pretty fast and camarillo is now my favorite place. OH! We rented the patio area for our high school reunion and I cannot say enough good things about Tiffany, who coordinated this for us. She was absolutely awesome. From handling the details to offering help, when needed, she made sure that our event was the best it could be. Our servers were phenomenal! Nicole, Natalie, & Sydney were, not only attentive, but so much fun! The patio is rather rustic, so we kept it casual; which was the perfect vibe for our group. We had appetizers and then a taco bar and got great feedback that the food was delicious and everyone had the best time. We have been coming here for several months now. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is a lot of fun, and they have great entertainment on the weekends. The best thing about this restaurant is a server named Sydney. She always makes us feel like we made her day by showing up. She remembers us every time we are here. She always makes time for conversations even though we clearly see that she is extremely busy. I hope they know what a treasure they have in this beautiful soul!!! read more

We went on a Friday night, so it was busier than usual. There was live music and it really made the atmosphere very cozy. Usually, I have a hard time hearing the other members of my party when there's live music playing, but this was not the case. Highlights: We really liked listening to the acoustic renditions of various songs. The forager burger and ol smokey Joe are DELICIOUS. I could write an essay on the forager burger alone but in short there's 3 kinds of mushrooms, onion rings, and garlic aioli atop a tasty burger patty between a buttery brioche bun. The service is good and the ambience is a little bit slow and laid-back on the slower days and when they have live entertainment like music it can be more intense. We went for lunch when outdoor dining reopened. They have outdoor space on the back patio and some in the front. There are heaters and umbrellas. It was really nicely set up! Staff was super nice and wearing masks. Covid precautions felt safe. Drink wise we got a chocolate martini, and the strawberry lemon drink. The chocolate martini was very heavy on the vodka and not much other flavor. I wouldn't get it again but if you like them strong you might enjoy it! The strawberry drink was also really strong but nothing special. The ahi wrap was great, a good amount of tuna and guacamole! The flatbread was just ok, the dough was a little dry and just nothing too special! It was a good environment for lunch, plenty of options on the menu, and nice staff! read more

I hosted a party on the patio last night for my husband's retirement. It was the perfect spot! The bar bite menu was delicious and just the right amount. The owner, Jeff, was very responsive during the planning process. Best part of it all was the service. Our two dedicated servers, Natalie and Julie were beyond amazing! The atmosphere was fun and inviting with a huge bar and great art painted on the wall. Our server was fast and friendly brought us water and our drinks pretty quickly. I've been here twice now, but wanted to wait until the second trip before reviewing so I could try more food (tl;dr the fact that I came back is a good sign). I'll start off by saying that I don't drink anymore so it was a struggle to see the MASSIVE array of liquor behind the bar and not partake. Awesome selection of local and in-house brewed beers as well. If you've never been inside and have only seen it from the street, you're in for a surprise. I thought it was just a small spot based on the storefront, but it's huge inside. Like barn-size huge. Plenty of seats/tables as well as a private room in the back and an open area outside where they also sometimes have live music. My first trip here I had a bunch of happy hour appetizers and they were all great. The herb fries have a perfect texture with a nice crunch on the outside, the chicken flautas were very tasty alone while the sauce definitely took it to another level, and the nachos were excellent as well. This time I had every intention of trying something new, but ended up starting with the loaded nachos again. They're piled high with cheeses, pico de gallo, jalapenos, sour cream, guac, and apparently you can add a meat if you'd like. The best part is that it seems like it's baked real quick as the cheese melts only the chips without making them soggy. Since I knew I HAD to try something else, I also got the thick cut rueben. This is not your normal rueben, it's got about one inch thick chunks of corned beef in there and it's just a whole different experience. It's got a hefty amount of fat that helps it just melt in your mouth. You definitely have to try this if you don't find something else that catches your attention on the extremely diverse menu. Finally, the place was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon during football season. They only had a few people working that day, but I never had trouble getting an order in and all the staff were always smiling and very pleasant. Great experience overall. I'll definitely be back and hopefully I can get through more of the menu and not just order the same things that I already know are exceptional! read more

My hubs and I don't enjoy evenings spent in crowded, noisy restaurants - local or when traveling. We do weekly date lunches and have a total blast! We try restaurants from Agoura up to North Ventura. We finally got around to Twisted Oak Tavern - 2433 Ventura Blvd, Camarillo 93010. WOWZERS! It was fantastic! Jonah was our server and host - Guy never stopped smiling. Room was close to empty when we arrived and some half full when we departed. They run weekly specials and rotate those regularly - Hubs had the Albondigas soup - said it was just about the best he'd ever had. As our own head Chefy and Gourmand, that man can COOK and CREATE from nothing...so, super easy to trust his take. I tried the Triple Mushroom Flatbread Pizza w/ Garlic puree, mozzarella, portobello, shiitake and oyster mushrooms, fresh arugula. They make their own dough and advertise 'scratch kitchen'. Am here to state it was, without question, the FINEST Flatbread pizza I have EVER eaten. It was to DIE for...so much better than Finnegan's too. So fresh, the mushrooms taste like they are coated and roasted. Even their ice tea was the BOMB. Yep, we have tried just about every place between here and there and this place shot up the chart for FANtastic food, great booths, open space, high ceiling for noise control. The entire staff just nailed it and we are SOLD on this place. Parking - you can park on either side of the building - easiest for us was between the church and the State Farm offices in the history buildings. HIGHLY RECOMMEND....don't mind saying you just may find us there again very soon! read more

This place was 5 star for me before. Not sure what has happened. The last few times I've been here the food has been cold or my order is always missing something. By the time they correct something my fresh food is cold and my appetite is gone with it. This was a place that I brought everyone to and recommended to everyone but at this point, I think my love has finally faded. I gave a couple of chances in case there was a staffing issue or just really busy, but it's now been the last 3 times in a row that they completely under delivered. Came here for happy hour the other day, and they have happy hour between 3pm to 6pm on a daily basis. When I came in around 1630 several tables were already taken but I was able to get one at the high tops by the bar. But after a few minutes, this place gets super packed, all the tables shortly thereafter were taken up. They have several tv at the bar area, unfortunately with the same channels on, which kinda defeats the purpose of having multiple tvs.... But anyways, they do have a lot of people working here, people working behind the bar, at the same time taking orders, at the same time bringing out food. I ordered their bp&j burger with garlic fries, which were an extra dollar, as well as their sausage flatbread for $9 which was on their happy hour, and 2 drinks, one of them being a moscow mule thats on their happy hour for $5, and a strawberry lemon drop that wasen't on their happy hour which was $13.50. 1)PB&J burger- this was cooked well. Juicy patty. Good amount of peanut butter, and sweatness from the jam. And bacon makes everything better. Bottom peice of bread is was soggy from all that juice. The fries though were cooked well. Crisp, soft and flaky inside. Had some hint of garlic on them, wish it was more pronounced, and they give you a little dollop container of ketchup, which would have been nice to have more ketchup. 2) Sausage flatbread- I can't grade this accurately, since I had it to go and had it as left overs for breakfast. But even after 15 hours of being out, and it being cold, it was still really good. Moderate amount of sausage, the flavors were bold. Bread was still soft and fluffy, and its nice that its a thinner crust, so your not just chomping away on bread. 3) the drinks are hit or miss depending on who makes them. But it did the job. Comparing this place to Twenty 88, Twenty 88 seems to be a finer place to dine, geared maybe more towards an older crowd. Whereas Twisted Oaks is more like a gastropub, down to earth place to hang out. A prime example of this would be that twenty 88 uses cloth napkins, whereas twisted oak uses paper napkins.... things like that. I feel as though the food at Twenty 88 is a little bit better. But pricewise Twisted Oaks is a lot cheaper than Twenty 88, even comparing their happy hour menus. But definitely a solid place to get some good food, good drinks and to hang out with some friends. One of the few times where after thinking about it I update the score to reflect a higher grade. Because yes the food at Twenty 88 is top notch, 10/10 in my books. Twisted oak is just slightly behind at 8.510, still really good quality food. But what changed my mind about a 4 star vs a 5 star review is that twisted oak was half the bill that Twenty 88 is. So the food is slightly not as good, but the pricing is half, and that is a good enough trade off for me. read more

Although I'm not a Craft beer fan I love the food here. The lemon pepper chicken is great and the salads have both Russian and lemon vinaigrette dressings available. Came in after a soccer game. We got the twisted fries and a kids cheese burger. Everyone was very nice. Food was so good, definitely adding this to our list of come backs.
