They have a pretty large offering of traditional desserts and a small selection of snack foods and drinks, as well as a couple seasonal items posted on the walls. The tofu pudding with cantaloupe is super refreshing with smooth tofu flower and a lightly sweet and icy cantaloupe soup as the base. The curry fish balls come ten to an order and pretty well seasoned, albeit pretty mild. Their black tea bingsoo is quite unique. The ice has a strong tea flavor and comes topped with sliced almonds and small amounts of cream, herbal jelly, and boba on the side. Staff is friendly and service is quick. Found this place while visiting Oakland Chinatown for a Yelp event. I was looking for a place that sold crepe cakes since there are none in my area. It is very easy to miss the location because a lot of the businesses in the area are boarded up. Due to COVID, all ordered are placed outside. There is a table in the doorway with the menu available to view. We ordered the chia seeds with coconut milk, grass jelly and ice cream, mango pomelo with chia seeds, egg puffs and a matcha crepe cake. To drink, we ordered the blended watermelon, blended cantaloupe, special fruit tea and strawberry tea. We enjoyed all of the drinks, but our favorite was the cantaloupe. They use fresh fruit which makes it even better and doesn't make it overly sweet. Our favorite dessert was the crepe cake. The crepes were moist and the matcha cream was light and not overpowering. Oh how I wanted to love this place, but couldn't. This place was a huge disappointment for me (and I'm hoping I just came on an off day given all the other positive reviews). I LOVE authentic cantonese/chinese style desserts and was looking forward to this place but was met with great disappointment. I ordered the mochi balls with sesame and almond paste and the red bean soup with walnut paste but both were at best mediocre. The flavors were somewhat there, but both of the desserts came out luke warm and half custard-y/half liquidy chunks which made it very unappetizing. The red bean soup with walnut paste was borderline cold so I had to tell them to reheat it for me. While I understand the place is small, hearing the microwave beep every 2 min to reheat a dessert is quite unappetizing. It gives off an unfresh vibe that I can't explain. I'm not sure how other chinese style dessert places do it but it's certainly not luke warm and not as chunky/custard-like. I really really wanted to like this place. I only tried the classic one tho, forgot to take pictures. I had both their hot sweet soup desserts and the cold ones. I grew up eating cantonese dessert and I think they make pretty good sweet soups, the walnut, almond, sesame are all really smooth. I had their mango pomelo sago, a standard Hong long dessert. Its the first time I had it with chia seeds tho, they have huge chia seeds in it and I like the texture of that a lot more than the ones I got from Costco. My friend and I decided to try both. Expensive at $12-13 per slice! Like damn this better be worth it... We ordered drinks to accompany our cakes. A kiwi berry tea and very uc special berry tea. Drinks came out in a timely manner, but the crepe cakes on the other hand took a while. They had to thaw it out, so it was gonna be a hot minute before they were edible (10-15 min was supposed wait time). The green tea one came out first on a wooden platter with an excessive amount of matcha powder. I wanted to hold off on eating it until the original one came out so I could get a photo of them together because yeah...gotta do it for the gram. We waited an additional 15 +mins for the original flavored cake to come out. I guess it needed more time to defrost since it isn't freshly made. The employees weren't attentive or informative at all, so service was definitely lacking. When we finally got the outer cake, we took our photos and went in. The matcha was of course already delicate and soft, but the original was still hard and frozen. Wasn't worth the $12 charge. Overall, I wouldn't recommend getting Lady M crepe cakes here, unless you don't mind waiting for it to defrost. However, their drinks were pretty good and refreshing, so I'll give a star for that. Customer service was pretty disappointing. The cashier and waitress weren't helpful. They took their sweet time giving us the bill and returning the credit card back to us. The cafe wasn't even busy at the time, so a notification would've been appreciated with the dessert wait time. My sister first took me here a couple months ago when I first moved up to the bay area and I've continued to come back because of their delicious Hong Kong styled desserts and their wonderful service. Their prices are very reasonable and their mango desserts are always my top choice. Decided to come by for some dessert on Thursday night around 8:30pm. There was no wait when we came in, but soon later there was a small line. We ordered a sesame paste with tofu pudding and combo c which includes: mango with black sticky rice, original egg puff, and UC strawberry. Everything was pretty good and came out quickly. I never had sesame paste with tofu pudding and it was an interesting combination indeed. The sesame paste paired well with the tofu pudding to balance out the sweetness. Mango with black sticky rice was pretty good - the sticky rice gave a great texture of chewiness to it. Egg puff was excellent - super crispy and airy! UC strawberry was way too sweet and unfortunately, you cannot make adjustments to the combination. Definitely need to wait for the ice to melt on this one before drinking. During Covid19 we have ordered from here several times. All orders placed ahead with a phone call and paid at window using the scan code VENMO. There is an option for one to order through the yelp app and use a partnered delivery service for an additional $6-$7 fee. The desserts seem to be what I am craving these days needing a break from the long day to day Covid19 quarantine. A quick drive helps for desserts helps even more! I believe this is a chain, part of a bigger franchise. What I find is the place is on a one way road smack in the middle of Oakland Chinatown area. So know your route ahead or plan ahead so you don't loop all around downtown with pedestrians crossing and jaywalking everywhere. The few items we consistently tried every time were puffy egg puff, cold bowl of taro mochi dessert with various additional toppings and moba milk tea. The idea of getting the base hot or cold then add stuff on to ones liking is just an ideal heaven place for me. However management and staff has sadly charged whatever they want to charge however they feel at that moment. Within the same week visiting 3 times and ordering the exact same items and topping we have been charged 50 cents per topping to 75 cents to $2.00 each additional topping! The inconsistency is what's scary. You literally think you are paying $7-9 desserts could turn out to be $18-$20+ FOR THE EXACT SAME ORDERED base and toppings. For that I am unhappy about. So I highly recommend that you just order from the pictures I attach to this review and by the letters and numbers listed. If there is a topping on the item you order that you prefer to opt out then do so. If you build your own plan to pay much much more even if it is the same number of toppings... Or go to their UC Dessert main website and view so you plan ahead with order. I like the options available but not the ridiculous inconsistent pricing. We have 6 receipts saved of the same items ordered and it seems to be a joke. "I charge what I want to charge" mentality for those additional toppings: chia seed, sago, taro fresh and etc. I get it if Taro Mochi etc it's more but I can't imagine a tiny bit of chia seeds costing $2! Also, regardless if it is a hot or cold, all should be in a same size and container. For some reason the hot base desserts are placed in a really really small container but if you opt for cold it's in a much bigger container. Who knows why...isn't a dessert bowl consistently the same when we eat inside at the establishment before Covid? I aim to give 5 stars especially promoting small and local businesses.
