The best South Indian food in the GTA. Great tasting masala dosas, pani Puri's, Bhajia's etc. quick attentive service and friendly staff. The decor needs updating, the food makes up for what it lacks. Highly recommend this place and will be returning again. Thank you!

Always dependable, delicious Indian Vegetarian Cuisine for dine-in, take-out and delivery. Dosas, uthapams, chaats and snacks. Highly recommend the Chana Bhatura (chickpeas cooked in a delicious curry served with two bhaturas), the Paneer Makhni (paneer cubes cooked in a rich tomato based gravy) with rice, naan and a sweet Mango Lassi beverage. On weekends Udupi Palace's menu expands to offer Tandoor Veg Seekh Kabab, Paneer Tikka, Tandoor Roti and Naan. Vegan, gluten-free and Jain options available. Udupi is a district and temple town located near Mangalore in the south.

So I went to Udupi after several years.I was hoping it was the same and it was. So this place is located in the heart of Gerrard st., desis might know it's a street full of Indian and Pakistani restaurants-it used to be the place for desi food years ago.Now restaurants are everywhere. So Udupi is an underground restaurant serving Indian snacks, dosas, thalis and chaats.I have had their thali years ago and it was amazing this time I was craving dosa hence decided on an onion rava dosa stuffed with potatoes. It was crisp and fresh and the chutneys accompanying it were delicious. We also tried the paper masala dosa which was pretty predictable. The highlight of the meal was the delicious samosa chaat-warm and gooey with delicious house chutnies. It tasted so non commercial.I loved it. We also tried the gulab jamans-they were fresh and light.Very tasty.I ordered the masala tea and wasn't too impressed by that hopefully they can work on their chai game I found it very weak. The service here is impressive-you have these young boys working so hard with a smile on their faces. With years gone by the restaurant has aged but I found it to be clean. The glasses on the table were sparkling.

The first spot that I tried after dine in started in Toronto after covid lock down. It is such a relish to have dosa after a long time. And can't expect much and can't expect it to be same as back home. Compared to being in Toronto and getting south Indian food definitely made my day. Service could have been faster, though there were not many people in the restaurant. Dosa was crispier that I ever tasted in India.

The dosa was thin and crispy, staff friendly but some of the food could have had a bit more flavor. Great place in the bazaar and a must come!

Nice staff Quick meals All veggie South Indian thali very good One of many good eats on Gerard in little India

Food so delicious that I forgot to take a pic of it for Yelp.

Ok, I admit I'm not an expert on Indian food. But the family enjoyed their meals as had I. My brother-in-law brought us here which is a positive because, as a local, he does have some street cred. So far I haven't gotten nauseous nor have I vomited, so that's another positive. With all that said, 5 stars.

Really good vegetarian food! The thali comes with an abundant amount of curries, more than your average even! The rasam was amazing as well, very flavourful. The onion pakoras were disappointing as they lacked that heavy crunch and seemed like there was more Channa than onion which is a Nono. The uttapam was a bit disappointing, not very flavourful and quite plain. The real winner is the Szechuan dosa! Completely different from any dosa I've had. The large variety of flavours, the zestyness and spice was on point. A nice change from your basic dosa with potato curry. The main reason I gave them a 4 instead of a 3. Was slightly disappointed by the lack of chutneys with the dosa

My wife has been craving for Dosa's for a while now and the urge hit hard on NYE day 2018. We know that there are better options out of town but we wanted to go somewhere close to where we live-ish and so Udupi was it. I have actually eaten here before and thought it was ok at the time and that thought continues. As Yelp calls it, a 3 star review is A-Ok and that's what Udupi Palace is. The atmosphere is probably the worst part of this place but if you know anything about Indian restaurants in India, it's actually quite accurate. The service is fine and the food is fine. I've had both better and worse Dosa's in both Canada and India. If you're not in the mood to drive way out of town for the best, then Udupi Palace will serve you just fine.

Poori Bhaji $7.50 - Potatoes, peas, and onion masala served with poori's

Strolled in here and had to try their dosa! You know it's a bit more authentic when it's busy with South Asian customers. They had a diversity of customers overall. I went for the Spring Dosa also the featured picture in their dosa menu section. The stuffing includes spiced vegetables (cabbage, carrots, tomatoes) and potato. It was light and refreshing and I love the curry-like sauces that you can dip it in to pack the flavour. My friend ordered poori bhaji which also looks pretty impressive. She also liked her meal. Even though they only serve vegetarian, I wish they carried more ingredient options in their dosas. It seems like the primary ingredient is centered around the potato, I mean I love potato but more veggie variety would be nice.

South Indian Thali. Comes with a variety of dal, pickles, and stuff. Some of them had bold flavours, others more subtle but complex.
    R C.

I loved the food! We ordered chaat, paneer makhni, and south indian thali. Lots of bold vs. subtle but delicate flavours. Their papad was also crispy and salty in the best way. The portions are pretty big; they give you lots of rice, perhaps even too much. Menu clearly indicates vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free food, which I appreciated. The ambiance was... interesting. Kind of like a half-basement canteen type of space with murals. But excellent food made up for the unusual interior design.

This is a great restaurant for those who have allergies. They sell cookies, muffins, cupcakes,…read morecakes (including cupcake cakes), donuts, pies, etc. They also sell cupcake decorating kits! They can handle to special occasions with customized cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. Their food is gluten-free, plant-based and nut-free, made fresh daily. The kitchen is free from gluten and priority allergens (peanuts, tree-nuts, wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, sesame, fish, crustaceans and molluscs). You can also email them with questions about your specific circumstances. The restaurant was opened 2018-05-19 by Matt and Pauline, a husband and wife team. Their son has multiple allergies so they were inspired to help so many other children and adults with allergies, which sometimes can be fatal. You can order directly from their website for larger quantities to get volume discounts. You can order customized savoury meals for $7.95 (small) and $10.95 (large). You start with 1 or 2 base, add proteins, add veggies, and top with warm sauces or vinaigrettes. There are hot/cold coffees, organic teas, and hot chocolate.  They use oat milk since their drinks are dairy-free and gluten-free. Their food has been greatly appreciated and trusted by so many people. They have a "Wall of Fame" with pictures of some of the many children they have helped and the children are so happy with the food. I ordered a Cookies and Cream Cupcake ($3.95) and Oatmeal Raisin Cookie ($2.00) online. The entire process was very simple. You would include your pickup date and time. When I arrived, there where 2 buttons I front of the entrance door (facilitating curbside pickup/takeout). There are buttons for "new orders & questions" and for "pickup & deliveries". Someone (in my case, Matt) would come out within 30 secs. My order was ready in a paper bag ready for pickup. I told Matt that I wanted to take photos of my two items before I ordered a soft-serve slush (a Dole Whip) later so that it didn't melt (it was a sunny 22C day after all!). Matt was very friendly and understanding. While I was taking photos, there were 2 other customers who arrived to make new orders for takeout. They asked questions about the contents of the food before ordering. Matt expertly answered their questions and they were sold! It gives me confidence that the food is legit. I am absolutely no expert on allergy-free food so it is good that I saw 2 satisfied customers. Of course I asked Matt some questions about the restaurant and the food. Then I ordered a vegan soft-serve in a plastic cup ($3.95). The two possible flavours are raspberry and pineapple. Matt even said it is possible to get half-half so I agree since it would make it more photogenic. You might think I choose food based on its look! And you may be right about that! It came out very colourful. Together I had 3 food items with 3 very different colours on a sunny day.. .  a photographer's delight. And I would shoot photos against the bench (with character!) in front of their restaurant. The allergens (especially lack thereof) are listed for each food item. The cupcake and cookie are plant-based, gluten-free, peanut-free, nut-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and soy-free. The Whip is dairy-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, gluten-free, kosher, and no artificial colours. As for taste, I liked it. You can taste the lack of "bad" ingredients replaced by healthy ingredients. It is a treat for me since i tend too eat foods with too much sugar, salt, and fat. It would be nice to see nutrition facts but I known small restaurants are not required to have them. They are so health-aware but what about their packaging? Are they environmentally friendly? Yes they are! The plastic used for the cupcake is made of plant-based plastic which is recyclable in certain municipalities. The plastic wrapping (which is well sealed) used for their cookies are recyclable if cleaned. When there are no pandemic restrictions, there is indoor dining, free WiFi, washrooms, and wheelchair accessible. There is street parking and if you are lucky, free 1-hour parking. The neighbourhood are filled with restaurants. Review 2021-065 You can also find me on Instagram @chuan_chee. Thanks.

Usually when I visit on weekdays either around lunch hours of 1-3 or after work 5-8, there's only 1 person ahead of me. Basil Box has a special place in my heart. I've been visiting several of their locations since they first started out in Toronto. It's one of my go-to spots when I need something that feels like healthier fast food. Most of my orders turned out to be terrible combinations full of regret that were totally my fault. For one order, I asked them to cover my BYOB in Thai Chilis, not realizing how spicy it was, and spent the whole meal crying inside their store while their staff looked on. During my most recent visit, I was lucky and realized maybe Peanut Sauce is the key to the BYOB. I got their Tofu curry walk in daily special for ~$11. It was so good, I was really surprised. The portion was enough to stretch to a 2nd meal. Although weirdly the rice hardened so I ended up throwing those leftovers away...:( Their Thai iced tea is OK. I feel every other BBT spot makes it better. Theirs is a bit watery. I tried their new satay fries. It's just fries seasoned with some satay seasoning powder (if you add on an egg to your dish, know you're literally getting a sunny side up egg with that powder on top). I thought it was too salty, and had to drown it out with other food items. They have a partnership with Wong's ice cream so I definitely recommend trying those pints out. Lots of different seating, good if you're alone or with friends. It's also relatively quiet; you could probably get away with studying or working remotely here.
