I want to love Ulele and I've given it 4 tries before writing this review but...I don't get the hype. The location and architectural significance of the building are great, the bar/bartenders have always been friendly and knowledgeable but I wouldn't say they're extraordinary, and the food...again, I just don't get it. All of my experiences in the dining room have been mediocre to average. I did enjoy sitting at the bar and limiting the experience to cocktails and oysters. Out of town guests seem to enjoy it as "not a chain" option and for the Tampa history but, aside from that, I'm not aching to go back anytime soon for a very pricey disappointment. read more

Came here because of all the amazing reviews. The ambiance is amazing its a bit loud so if you are going on a date that you want to hear each other I would reccomend eating outside but in the summer time it will be sweltering. The appetizers we had were the crab cakes and the captains shrimp. The crab cakes were cold by the time they made it out so that was kinda disappointing. The shrimp was great. Each person ordered something different and the only one that was disappointed was the person that ordered the fire roasted chicken he felt like it was not up to his expectations for the price of the food. The ny strip was a little too fatty but had lots of flavor, the stuffed shrimp was amazing lots of lobster meat, the munster chicken exploded with flavor. And we topped everything off with some bacon ice cream. read more

Three stars for how beautiful this place was, and how gennerally good the service was... especially while we were waiting for our table and got served out on the lawn by a wonderful young lady named Katie. The biggest piece of the entire experience that left something to be desired was the food itself. The menu was large and sometimes when you see a large menu you tend to wonder about the execution. My recommendation would be to tighten it up and focus on doing less options better. The food was under seasoned and uninspired. The food was Better at the little beach bar across the way. Was pleasantly surprised to see a Justin wine on the list. We had two bottles. Overall for the price there are better options for better food around. read more

Went here for my fiancés birthday and they really did a good job! Food was delicious. We ordered oysters, calamari, and the lobster roll. Everything was fresh and delicious, only thing was I wish they put more lobster in the lobster roll. Extremely disappointing when you are trying to celebrate a bday dinner and they tell you they cannot accommodate you because you have 1 person too many (party of 13) and they can only accommodate 12 as they have discovered this is the right amount of people they can comfortably serve (exactly their words) so they decided to set it as the limit. No other options other than canceling the reservation. So if you have a large group, I guess they are not capable of handling it so hope you get a plan b. We have been to so many restaurants, never have I experienced something like this before including at this one, something or someone must have changed. read more

It's hard to believe this is our first time reviewing Ulele, since we literally eat here almost once a week. Everything about Ulele is great, from the outdoor bar and patio to the unique design inside. There's even seating at a bar in front of the kitchen and oyster shucking! We've eaten just about everything on the menu! You should ALWAYS start with the charbroiled oysters!! ALWAYS. They're amazing, just as delicious as they are in New Orleans. The tomahawk porkchop is the best to order when you're really hungry! It's a lot of food, and although it's pork, it's just as tender as steak! My other go to dinners are seafood risotto, scottish steak or the meatloaf! All are always perfect and full of flavor!! Service and drinnks are something to be talked about as well! I'll start by saying i love the decor. The restaurant is large but also very loud. We ordered the crab Mac and cheese which was mediocre and the charbroiled oysters which where amazing. My husband ordered the tomahawk pork chop and it was delicious. The guava glaze is fantastic! I ordered the seafood risotto which the flavor was amazing but was luke worm which was disappointing. Next for dessert we had the chocolate torte and the key lime. Both were out of this world. The raspberry reduction was so amazing. I will say the service wasn't great. Our waiter rarely checked up on us. Overall the food was great and I'd return. read more

Great spot in downtown Tampa! Fresh seafood options from crab mac&cheese to Sea Scallops. Lots of drink options from an extensive wine list, craft cocktails (home made simple syrups) and in-house brews. We had a few appetizers, cocktails and shared a dessert. The crab mac&cheese was creamy and well seasoned. Calamari was well seasoned and the texture was perfect. Alligator hush puppies were tasty and a good size portion for 4-6 people. We've been a few times in the last year and it is always consistently good. The wedge salad is unique and short ribs always end up on the table too. The service here is always great, the outdoor space is fun for a drink or two, and it's unique enough to make you want to come back. Walking in without a reservation seems almost impossible and there's not much else over there so I'd get a reservation and consider Uber vs limited parking or valet. read more

my friend and I had lunch here today. We ate outside of the beautiful outdoor dining area, shaded by a huge umbrella and cooled by two large fans. We were attended to promptly by Bryan and his trainee Matt. Bryan briefly explained the history of the restaurant and the mission of the menu- to serve foods with ingredients that may have been served by native Americans from the area. We split both a delicious hamburger and a key lime dessert. I toured the interior and women's room and found them both excellent. you can watch the food being prepared. upstairs there's a great collection of sports memorabilia. There are wonderful sculptures inside and out. Ulele is located beside a spring and they have free fish food to feed fish in the spring. Located on the Hillsborough River, it is very picturesque. 5 stars to Bryan and Matt as well. read more

The venue is amazing, picturesque! For a more private quiet evening I recommend asking for a table upstairs but if you like to be in the middle of it all stay downstairs. The upstairs also has an outside sitting area that can be rented for private events. Beyond the venue being incredible I would say the drinks and food are good but nothing that blew me away. Next time I would likely come here for a drink and app but then head over someplace else for dinner. read more

Went to Ulele with my wife and daughter to celebrate Fathers Day. The experience was disappointing as we've been looking to come here for a while. We sat inside on the 2nd floor and it was hot, even though our reservation was at 8pm. We started with the crab Mac n cheese and alligator bites. My wife said the crab tasted too fishy and the alligator bites were way too salty. I had the filet and it was good. However, I added scallops and they were way too salty as well. My daughter had the mahi mahi and she said the textures were "weird." My wife had the seafood risotto, which was good, but even she said her scallops were too salty. Given how long it took us to find a reservation, we were expecting better food. We probably won't be back. read more

Found out about Ulele from doing a Google search and decided to try them out. At first when I arrived I was a little skeptical but it was like walking into a wonderland. I loved the decor both in and out. I went for dinner and it was busy so I would recommend a reservation. I was finally seated and my server was awesome! Very friendly explained that everything was made in-house from the dressings to the dessert. I mainly came for the chargrilled oysters but decided to try the calamari as well. First the oysters are the best I've ever had!!! I could've ate three dozen of them easily. The calamari was ok but nothing I would run to get or order again. I ordered a drink I believe it was the princess ulele but it was delicious and I loved the grilled pineapple. Of course after reviewing the menu, I couldn't leave without trying the candied bacon maple ice cream..... oh my! This creation did not disappoint...vanilla ice cream with bacon bits and covered in a corn flake crust with a bourbon cream sauce, a waffle crisp and a strip of candied bacon. Even though the candied bacon was tasty I would've rather had two waffle crisps instead. Whatever you do make sure you walk around the courtyard before you leave. It's absolutely gorgeous read more

Me and my sister were visiting the area from Jersey and decided to meet up with one of my sisters friends for dinner on our last night . This place is a little off the beaten path but definitely a place to try . Now we had a 6:15 reservations for outside seating although I was disappointed with that considering we were sat right in the sun even with a umbrella over us it didn't help much . So I don't recommend it while the sun is in full blaze still. They were nice to put up and additional tent after another customer complained about the glare . Now they have a large menu selection to satisfy any taste bud . We decided to do somewhat of a menu tasting so that we could try a few things . We ordered the jalapeño corn muffins which were good and had some bite to them. We also had the pear and beet salad which was delicious that sauce they use was amazing. We also had the Char broiled oysters which were delicious. Now as a main course we had the pork shank and seafood risotto. They were both delicious and full of flavor. We also tried a few of the desserts key lime stack , chocolate torte, and the coconut ice cream . I really enjoyed the key lime stack and the coconut ice cream . Our waitress was amazing and definitely hustled the whole time we were there. I'm blanking on her name. But she worked the outside patio on Sunday 6/2. The restaurant has an awesome outdoor space complete with pond and water park. The views of the bay from the restaurant are breathtaking. This restaurant gets better and better! I've been here numerous times over the past few years. They recently added an outside bar, primarily to entertain those who are waiting for their tables. Ingenious! There is also a large courtyard with seating and a gorgeous view of the river. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating, as well as an indoor bar and seating upstairs for larger parties. First off, my recommendation is to always make a reservation. This place is always booked for a reason. Here are some of my favorites... Appetizers: I have enjoyed numerous dishes including one they don't have on the menu anymore :( ... It was an appetizer of thinly sliced octopus that was fanned out on the plate in a beautiful presentation. Perhaps they might bring it back if enough of us asked for it. Crab Mac & Cheese Four-cheese Ulele Pale Lager beer sauce with a Parmesan Romano panko crust and fresh lump crab atop seashell pasta.... mouthwatering delicious! Salads: Roasted Beets and Poached Pear Roasted beets with saffron-poached pear, balsamic charred red onion, whipped goat cheese, blackberry honey gastrique, toasted almonds, watercress. Wow! Entrees: Florida Pompano Pan-seared fresh pompano fillet, sun-dried tomato shallot cream, and fried carrot ribbons...my absolute favorite! Came here with the parents and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is great and the area is beautiful to walk around. I got the chicken entree (with the sauce on the side) and thought it was very flavorful. The risotto was great! Parents food also looked really good and they loved it- the wedge salad, meatloaf, and burger. Their beer is also made in house as their is a brewery in the back. read more

I went here on a busy Friday night with my girlfriend. We ordered the crab cakes, chili, Gouda grouper, and the Florida Pompano. The Florida Pompano was delicious,but that was the only thing worth the price. The crab cakes were good but came in very small portions. The chili was mediocre and had little meat. By far, the worst dish was the Gouda grouper. It did not have a good flavor and tasted burnt! So disappointing read more

I've been anticipating eating at Ulele after seeing my local friend's food pictures... and it did not disappoint!! Ulele is the name of a legendary Native American girl who defends a settler from execution. There is a beautiful statue of her outside the restaurant, as well as an outdoor bar and patio. There is artificial grass and comfortable patio furniture for you to chill with your furry companion. Inside, the restaurant is gorgeous and open. It's a beautiful space to hose small and large parties. There is parking along the street, and a separate lot about a block across the street. Be careful where you park because they will tow. Service was awesome, and our server was on point for my large brunch group. Ulele is also a brew house, with several house beers that I enjoyed sampling. They also have a specialty drink menu, but it was too early in the day for drinking. I was excited to try lots of things on their menu, and I enjoyed everything I ordered! Charbroiled Oysters - Barbacoa-grilled, with garlic butter, grated Parmesan and Romano cheeses. These were large and juicy oysters. Even with the toppings, you can taste the freshness of the oyster and that there was a lot in your bite. I highly suggest ordering these instead of the raw oysters for that extra taste. Fresh Calamari - Crispy fried North Atlantic calamari, Amarillo chili lemon dressing, sauce piquant. They serve large pieces of calamari, and the breading is light. I thought the red sauce was a bit watery and light for my taste, but I dipped my calamari in the hush puppy sauces. Alligator Hush Puppies - Alligator, country ham, duck bacon, fresh corn, jalapeño, honey datil pepper sauce and fresh-ground horseradish aioli. The hush puppies were fried too hard when I bit into it, but inside is fluffy and full of stuffing. These will fill you up, so definitely share. The two creamy sauces were bomb, I liked them both and cleaned the plate. Ulele Burger - Char-grilled ground short rib, brisket and chick blend burger topped with house steak sauce, Wisconsin sharp Cheddar, portobello mushrooms, fire-roasted red peppers and fried leeks, served on a brioche bun. My boyfriend ordered this, and he barely finished half. The burger is HUGE but tasty! Water Works Meatloaf - Groung, dry-aged strip loin and fresh vegetables, cabernet garlic demi glace, white cheddar popcorn mashed potatoes, tobacco onions. This was my entree, and although I was skeptical when I saw two thin slices of the meatloaf, one bite and I got hooked!! I asked for extra gravy because I like my meatloaf saucy, and this one was full of flavor! I was torn between ordering this dish and another from the menu, but I'm glad that I went with the meatloaf.
