One of my daughters was in town for the holidays and needed some new makeup so we went to Ulta. We found the area that had the specific items she needed, but she needed some help choosing what was best for her skin. We both wandered around looking for help and couldn't find anyone. There was an employee helping a customer and we asked if there was anyone else available to help us. She was surprised nobody was there to help and went and found someone. She told us someone was on the way. Nobody showed up. By now, there are about ten of us waiting for help in that area. The gal that was helping a customer finished and came to help us. She apologized for the fact she was the only one over there. It clearly wasn't her fault! She was great and helped my daughter choose the appropriate items for her skin type. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. We went and got in line to check out. The person who checked out did not say one word to us during the transaction. No hello or thanks or anything. Neither of the two people at the cash wrap were friendly in the least. It was as if we were disturbing them. So overall it wasn't great, but one employee was really good (I wish I remembered her name)! read more

I saw an employee to ask for help and being polite, I just asked if she was already helping someone and she said, no... but I AM doing something! I usually shop Sephora because I have VIB status but I occasionally end up at an Ulta. They carry quite a few things that Sephora does not. On this day I was in search of new nail polish and cotton rounds. Obviously they had the cotton rounds and I took a little time and perused the nail polish selection. I visited this Ulta looking for Fenty under eye concealer and was greeted at the door by a very helpful sales person. She told me that Sephora carries Fenty but she has something better. They were having an "It" cosmetics line event so she tested their It Bye Bye Under Eye, full coverage anti-aging waterproof concealer on me. It's nice & creamy & covers better than anything I've tried in the past! Sold! I have also been searching for a very natural shade of lip stain & and she helped me find the perfect shade. Without her I would've been wandering the store aimlessly for an hour. There was a small line at check out but there were 3 cashiers so it went quickly. Thank you Ulta! read more

We have been long time customers and salon patrons. My daughter went in fir the signature haircut which included a wash, cut and style or blow out. After she dried her hair the stylist said she wanted to run a straightener through it. When we went to check out another stylist added a silk press service to our fee. The manager had to assist with some kind of override and when I questioned the additional service she seem to think it was ok to charge me $129 for a haircut with blowout and straightener although we did not ask for additional service not where made award that it was an additional $50. I love this store and location, I am always greeted as soon as I walk in first by someone at checkout and then by someone in the MAC Dept. I have a standing 4 week appointment with KATHERYN at the brow bar and she darkens/ dyes my eyebrows light brown then waxes and trims them and fills them in with the latest and greatest magic ( I always end up purchasing whatever she puts on them, I have about 4 different shades). I go from a 50 year old gray and brown brow to that of a teenager! Okay I don't look like a teenager , although my eyebrows look FANTASTIC!!! Makes me feel younger! Thank God for makeup!!! Okay I was reading the other reviews. Yes,there is always a line at the checkout, so I go during the day on my day off. Make sure to have plenty of time in your hands when going in because it is like Disney land walking around in that place!!! So fun! read more

I am a member of the Ulta Club, have yet to see any reward certificates, and yet I still give them a 5 Star review. How is this? When it comes to beauty items... anything from hair brushes to Bare Escentuals make-up. They have a great selection of Ulta brand lotions and shower/bath gels. The reason I go, however, is for the awesome-tastic selection of nail polishes. They pretty much have every current salon quality nail polish brand, and I've never been disappointed. One thing I've found here that I haven't seen elsewhere is the Orly Instant Artist line of polishes with a super thin brush for detailed polishing. I got the silver glitter polish and have loved it. So much so, in fact, that I also tried to utilize it for a craft project. Word to the wise... If you put a clear acrylic coat on top of this nail polish (as an art project), a strange interaction will most likely take place, and it'll crackle like Rice Krispies. It ended up looking pretty darn awesome, but it was totally unexpected. I went in one time, bought a bottle of OPI polish, and was given a mini trio of 3 awesome fall shades. What a perk!! The staff has always seemed helpful and friendly... they are often found talking to others, but they are usually talking with customers and really getting a sense of what they are after. Though they have such a smorgasbord of product lines, I would have said that I'd probably only shop here for the harder to find items. However, upon comparing prices on say Neutrogena Cream Lather Shampoo, at Target, the price is the same, so maybe just do it all while you're there! :) Happy Shopping read more

I just moved back to St. Louis from Colorado. I have been an Ulta Platinum level member for several years. I have never had too much a problem finding assistance at most stores. I walked in and walked around the premium brand cosmetics for at least 7 minutes (I know the time because I sent a text from the Smashbox section). If you are going to spend at least $20 on just something for your eyebrows, you'd think someone might help you. Nope. The last product I bought I didn't like and was looking for advice on what I should try instead. I was also planning on replenishing some other supplies. I only saw 4 people working in the entire store. 2 at the register and 2 in the salon. It's very frustrating. I'm thinking about cashing out my free money online and finding a new go-to beauty supply place. read more

Found some great make-up/fragrance/lotion combos reasonably priced for Christmas gifts, including a couple goodies for a youngster. Bargain bin of mix-and-match shadows, lip gloss, lotions 5 for $5 (the majority of these items were normally priced $3 each). Bare Escentuals/Bare Minerals products and brushes. Basics like emory boards, cotton balls, sunscreen. And Yankee Candles. Finally, the Ulta Club -- free sign-up. Every quarter you get a reward certificate (based on your level of spending) for free beauty products or salon services, coupons and special offers. Great service with clerks walking throughout the store to help. And checkout was properly staffed. read more

I have a love-hate relationship with this store...I love everything in it, but hate to pay for it. Every time I walk in here, they might as well just take $100 from me at the door. That said, they have a great selection and are very willing to help those who are beauty-product-challenged pick out the perfect mascara for my lash style. Or the perfect bottle of shampoo for my hair texture and color. They also have all of the Bare Escentuals products. I own most of the line myself, but still can't spell it. Hello, marketing? The powdered stuff is way better than putting some kind of colored goo on your face every morning. And it gives the illusion of being healthy for your skin. Love it! I don't remember who introduced me to Ulta years ago but I've never really shopped anywhere else for my beauty necessities. I am a part of their Ulta Club, have never gotten reward certificates and they will stop sending you their ads if you haven't come in within their designated time frame. There is always a deal going on, whether it be on their store brand cosmetics or your name brands. Combine those with the coupon you can get in the mail or online and you got yourself quite a deal. Good luck resisting your impulse buys...but in the end you'll use everything you get! read more

I called to set an appointment for my daughter, who is a sophomore in high school, a cut and partial highlight. I have very similar hair in length and thickness, and go to an extremely high end salon, where a full highlight and cut and style typically costs me around $170. I was quoted a price of $95. They did a beautiful job on her hair, but it was just a cut and partial foil. Then they handed me a bill for $240. What??? The stylist claimed that the upcharge was due to extra product because her hair is long, along with the stylist being a "Level 2". I didn't ask for a level 2 stylist and can't fathom how extra product caused the bill to be 2.5x the quoted amount. What a ripoff. I'll be contacting their corporate offices Monday morning. read more

The employees and managers there really work one on one with you to not only find what you came in looking for, but also go above and beyond to take the time to teach you techniques and give you tips on how to apply the products. Today I was reminded why I don't come in here very often. It was slightly busy due to some makeup "applying" event which is fine but they had ONE person working the check out counter. A manager was behind the counter showing another employee how to use the computer. Before knowing this, I started to place my items on the counter only to be interrupted by a fake high pitched "SHE'll be right with you" gesturing to the one person checking people out. So I backed up only to wait about 5 minutes (as I'm late to work) while they try to up sell some mascara and make small talk while there is a line forming... finally it's my turn and while getting the change the money drawer shuts and the employee pages the manager to get approval to open the drawer. At this point I just walked out without my change. The reason I'm giving two stars is because CHECKOUT is ALWAYS such a hassle and understaffed!! read more

The salon is TERRIBLE. Showed up to my first appt and there was no one there. They told me know on told the stylists so oh well. Rescheduled after the manager called to apologize and went to my next scheduled appt. My stylist was running WAY behind, than told me he didn't want to fix my hair because he would be there to late. After he told me how horrible my color was and how bad I looked. Him and the manager stood in front of me and complained on how dirty the salon was and that no one EVER cleans it. I left with a wet head, no color what my hair was. Will never shop or go there again. read more

For my cosmetics needs, I am more apt to turn to a drugstore for basics or to Sephora or a department store for necessary indulgences. In my opinion, Ulta occupies a hard-to-define space, between Walgreens/CVS and Sephora. I thought that I would give Ulta a second look as I was looking to replace a hairdryer. From a quick tutorial--thanks, follica.com--I found out that I was in very dire straits indeed,as my old dryer did not have ionic, ceramic, or tourmaline features and I might as well have been standing in a wind tunnel to achieve the same results. I was pleased with the array of options at Ulta. The organization made it easy to identify what I was after, as there were gradations of hairdryers, from the very basic models to those offering the aforementioned ionic, cermaic, and tourmaline. I opted for a Rusk hairdryer which I managed to score at $30 off the original price. I am not certain that I'll make Ulta a regular stop for cosmetics shopping, but it is definitely good to know that there are more options out there for styling tools. Perhaps I will be forced to bring a new analogy into play: Ulta is like a Lowes Home Improvement warehouse, for beauty! read more

My experience here was awesome. I asked for help from one of the employees who quickly pushed me off to one of her co-workers, but I'm glad she did. Kathleen was amazing. So sweet and helpful. I am new to the skin care/make-up world, as normally I am a target girl when it comes to these types of products, make-up, cleansers, moisturizers, eye shadows etc. - also I am a bronzer mascara out the door type of person, so no experience in the make-up world. I have just been uninformed all my life. She spent a good amount of time with me basically walking through how my daily skin care regiment should be. It was awesome. I just kept asking more and more questions and adding to my pile of products. Which I was fine with, if you're gonna do it - might as well do it right. She was reading labels and making sure I had the best stuff. Never pressuring me to buy more or buy more expensive things. I am so excited to try out all my new products! read more

I will say that there have been extremely long wait times in line the last couple times I've been there. That being said they have a ton of beauty products, basically anything you need, and if you are part of their rewards program you do get coupons (mostly $3.50 off $15 or more, which isn't terrible but doesn't apply to the expensive name brand stuff anyways) Also the staff is usually very helpful and knowledgeable when they are available. This store is typically busy every time I've been there, so like I said be prepared to wait in line at the cash register. But pain is beauty right? read more

Awful! Will not go there anymore! Had an appt for a brow wax at 3pm. I go in and the girl that's suppose to give brow wax said she was leaving at 3pm. I said I had an appt. she said she didn't make the appt, someone else did. No help from manager after I talked to her. She said I'm going to find out who scheduled you and I'll tell them they can't do that. Also, had bad experience with facial guy. Not good at all. I used to go here for YEARS! Never again, won't walk in there. They need to get clean up their act and get someone to run that store who knows what's going on. AWFUL!!!! read more

I only go to this store because it's close to my office. I ran in there this afternoon to of which there were 3 people behind the cash desk of which none of them greeted me when I came in nor at any point did anyone acknowledge me asking if I needed help. I had an idea what I was looking for but again no one on the sales floor to help me but there were 3 women at the cash desk. So after being very frustrated I approached the cash desk to ask them about the products I had in my hand and not one of the women at the desk could give me any insight into the products. Then all of the sudden this woman comes out of nowhere attempting to help me and she starts recommending products that ARE NOT what I wanted (if I wanted a foundation I would have asked for it). Question, where are the people that work at the store? There are NEVER any sales associates on the store and the ones I encounter are rather pretentious and act like i've inconveniencing them! All I wanted was what I asked for but instead I had to roam through the aisles without any assistance. I started to leave the product there and go to another location where I know my experience would have been way different but I unfortunately didn't have the time. This store needs to do better (cause I won't be back) i'll stick with the Brentwood location where they're more friendly and actually help you find what you're looking for. read more
