Honestly I don't know how to describe how irate I am about my experience in this Ulta. First off I'm not a person that needs to be greeted when they walk in and actually prefer to be left alone until I need help and ask for it. I ran in on my lunch break to pick up a jar of Perricone MD Cold Eye Plasm. When I actually saw something that caught my eye and asked a question the associates seemed very annoyed almost as if I was asking them for the moon. This store carries a brand of makeup that I use and love: LORAC. LORAC recently re-formulated their powder line and I had to see it in person to properly pick out a replacement. I walked in, they had a full display of the whole line, I tried it on and boom, got it done. The only down-side? There inventory is sparse and not kept up like Sephora. There were eyeliners misplaced and thrown in the wrong places, which meant I had to dig for what I wanted. But I was asked if I needed help and took the cute girl up on it. I love this store. They do everything to help the world be a prettier place. If you didn't end up pretty, you didn't spend enough money. They have cosmetic brands for all budgets. Personally, I do not buy my make up here... if they sold MAC, I'd be their slave for-fucking-ever. Hair products... shit, I saw a bottle of shampoo for 50 dollars. Please don't think I wash my hair with $50 fucking dollar shampoo. My hair is nice but not that nice. It's Costco nice. Hair care appliances... the absolute best flat irons and blow dryers. I was shopping for a flat iron and a sales girl came and helped me hem and haw over this flat iron or that flat iron.... this lasted like 20 minutes. She stayed with me the entire time.... come to think of it, I hoped she worked there. And can you believe that they have a hair salon in the back?!?!? Shit, you could spend the day here. Eh...not so impressed. My cousin brought me over to the Hacienda Crossings Ulta about 1.5 years ago. I found it different b/c unlike Sephora, it carries run of the mill, OTC cosmetics. They have a much better selection of hair care and nail care products (they carry OPI, China Glaze and ESSIE). In addition, they have a great selection of SPA products and fragrances. The price is a wee bit lower than at Sephora, but the presentation, is much less urban. I guess that can be a good thing! I have two complaints, the limited selection of designer make-up is a real bummer. I am a Chanel, Dior and Clarins girl. I needed some 40+ facial sunscreen and there was zip, nada, zero on the shelves. I was soooooo... disappointed. I mean they carry MURAD and MD Skincare, but they don't have ANYTHING above a 15 SPF. What gives? Contra Costa county is friggin' HOT as HADES in the summer time and they should carry something over SPF 15!!! HRRRMPH!!! read more

Their customer service is not impressive at all -- they seem to have a bunch of women working that look intimidating because they can't even smile apparently. On top of that, my last experience was one that made me feel I had stepped out of the Bay Area. On a lazy day with my sweats and hoodie on, I walked into this Ulta location and felt like I was being watched and followed around the store. I swear, this person kept asking me if I needed any help every time I went to a new aisle and not even in a nice way! Uhhhhh.....can you let me browse! The ladies that work here are awful. Unless you're dressed like Kim Kardashian or seem like you'll actually make a purchase, they won't acknowledge your existence. I came in my workout clothing with a messy bun once and the second I came through the door, one of the workers standing there just looked at me and didn't say a word. She didn't even smile.About ten seconds later, another lady (dressed in a black pencil skirt and some blouse) came in behind me and the worker immediately greeted her. Really? Was I not worth greeting because of the fact that I looked sweaty and unapproachable or..? The store is pretty neat, except for a few aisles here and there. Some items have no price tags on them or underneath them, while many are misplaced. You'd think with all the time on their hands the workers would actually try and clean up the place a bit but instead they waste their time chatting with each other. Save your time and money and head on over to Sephora (Stoneridge Mall), the MAC store (Stoneirdge Mall), Macy's, or any other cosmetic store. read more

Docking 2 stars off because Service/help always takes way too long.. i waited for almost 30mins to get assistance with some products... but this is true for almost every Ulta Ive visited so its probably how they staff stores. Shout out to Dee who really took the time to listen to how sensitive my skin is and recommending Clinique's 3 step system! Though my skin still has quite a way to go, it worked more wonders than 2 different dermatologist's recommendations! THANK YOU DEE!!! Also Jordan did an awesome job on my eyebrows! She worked a great balance between what I want my eyebrows to look like and the shape or my face/current eyebrows. I could absolutely cry over what they did to my brows here. I spent months growing them and they waxed and plucked them into almost nothing in a few minutes. I feel so embarrassed by the way that they look. I just wanted them cleaned up a little and I didn't realize how much they thinned them until I got home. I told them I had spent so long growing them in and that I just wanted them shaped up a little and they absolutely wrecked them. I'm including a before and after photo. My daughter and I made appointments for facials with the Dermalogica esthetician Andrea. Pluses: Andrea is amazingly knowledgeable and friendly, the products are super high quality, my face looked and felt amazing afterwards, great price for a high quality facial plus a discount when it's your first one. The only "minus" is that you're in a booth area, not a room, so it's private but you hear all the store noise and chatter. I'll definitely start going regularly. My skin never felt or looked this good after a treatment. read more

I usually went there for cosmetics and lotion, moderate price & service, fine. However, the salon service is horrendous. I went for a haircut, first water got into my ear during shampoo. Then during my haircut, the stylist scratched my face with something hard (fortunately my face has no wound so it is not the sharp edge of the scissors).. After blow dry, my hair looks like a exploding mushroom which is so 80s and I almost fainted! I asked the stylist to weight it down with water and gel so it doesn't look so ridiculous. If Sephora and Target had a baby, it would be Ulta. I do like the selections of products in the store. It's a mix of drugstore and upscale cosmetics. In my opinion, the selection of the more upscale brands isn't THAT great. They did have some pretty sweet deals going on at the time I visited though. I got the feeling that the sales people were a bit stuck up. One lady bumped into me as I was looking at products when she was on her way to help out other customers and then glared at me like it was my fault. Horrible experience getting my hair done by Jordan. I asked him to put my human clip in hair extensions in and then straighten my hair and he did the job. However he CUT MY EXTENSIONS without asking me or telling me. He turned my chair around so I wouldn't see in the mirror and cut them! To add to that his fingers were black & you can tell his hands were not washed. He also pushed me head aggressively every time he clipped in a extensions. Do not go to Jordan!! My New Year's resolution is to stop aging! I found my first grey hair recently. Upon further inspection, I was able to tease out "about" 20 grey hairs! Twenty! I may soon have to make an appointment to color my hair. Oh, the horror! I like the convenience. It is easy to make appointments. Late night and weekend slots are available. I've scored appointments in the evening after work, early in the week, when the store is mostly empty and there are very few interruptions including phone calls. Ulta has plenty of stylists to choose from. Senior stylists are your best bet while more junior stylists are a crap shoot. Prices are commensurate with experience. I have been to Ulta for "updos" for the last few years' more formal holiday parties. I've also experienced their blow outs. I've generally been happy with the results. I haven't tried Ulta for more permanent results like haircuts or dye jobs. Maybe it's time for a fake "au naturel" look or a bold, avant-garde ombre? read more

ULTA is like a combination of CVS, Sephora, Sally's, and a hair salon. I previously bought a Hot Tools 1.5 inch curling iron here, but it wouldn't work on my thick Asian hair so I came back to exchange it last Saturday. Surprisingly they weren't packed and the line was short, unlike Sephora where I'd have to push through strangers on weekends. I exchanged my curling iron for a 1 inch, bought Bare Minerals make up, Alterna shampoo, Alterna condition, and a candle. I spent about $120. My poor wallet... ULTA had everything I was looking for. There's a wide variety of beauty essentials. They have a ton of OPI nail polish, they also carry the OPI Shatter. I like the ULTA free rewards program. For every $1 you spend you get 4 points. When you accumulate enough points, you can get either a free treatment of some sort from the salon or you can get a discount on your purchase. Also, when you make any purchases they give you free samples. The employees are helpful and friendly. Even if they don't know where a product is located they'll hunt it down for you. ULTA and Sephora are tied for me. read more

When you first walk in, the items and everything in front is always beat and organized. Of course. It has to sell by presentation right? But once we get further into the store, it becomes a mess. Especially the left side of the store. Lots of the testers on the right side needs to be changed and or they don't have things in stock. The stuff on the left side usually don't have testers, as one of the staff had said. But some items do have testers. Most of the stuff I was looking for today wasn't in stock, so that started to bug me. The cashier women in front are usually really nice and cheerful. All the folks at the ulta salon are amazingly friendly. As a lady in my mid 20's, I feel totally comfortable with their chit chat to each other, they're people I would want to have as friends :) Stephanie has been cutting my hair for a couple years, and was/still is the only person I trust to dye my hair. It took us a couple sessions to get my hair to the color I wanted. Steph is the sweetest and just wanted to make sure I was happy. The color is perfect now, and my hair is still super healthy feeling, which is a big plus after bleaching it twice. When it comes to getting assistance, however, this store is SEVERELY lacking. Not only this, but half of them have nasty attitudes and the other half have absolutely no clue what they are talking about. I purchased $100 in makeup that didn't even match my skin tone because the woman helping me INSTISTED it was my color. She could not have been more wrong. Severely irritating. I was in desperate need of a fresh cut, and had gone to Ulta Salons in the past for styling and trims. I made an online appointment with the option of booking whichever stylist was available. My appointment was scheduled with Molly, and let me just say, I will be booking specifically with her from now on. I told her what I wanted and showed her a picture for reference, and I am very happy with the outcome. Molly was personable, friendly, and made the whole experience so relaxing. She takes pride in her work and it definitely shows. She answered questions that I had about products and styling my hair, and she gave me some awesome recommendations. My girlfriend turned me on to Jessica at Ulta. Apparently she is in charge and their top stylist. (fancy!) She has been doing my hair for about a year now and I couldn't be happier. When I tell her take 1/4 inch she doesn't chop it off she literally listens. Even if I am saving dead ends for length! She has good convo, up to date gossip magazines and bottled water. I just wish she wasn't so darn expensive! I am not sure if the other stylists are less expensive? Is it because she is so desired? Not sure but I would go more often if it was cheaper. I do like that they have an Ulta rewards card that these appointments get credited for and cool free stuff to pick out once your points have accumulated. I took my daughter there and got a quote for an Ombre and made an appt. They did the ombre and CHARGED $75.00 MORE than the quote! I found the actual written quote from the salon and showed it to the manager, and she looked at me like she could care less. No apology, no nothing. They dont stand by their quotes, and the ombre looks like crap. It looks like dry ends, not the rich two tone of an ombre. This review is for the salon. I booked an appointment to get my hair color glossed by Cristal. I'm in the process of growing out my hair, so my ends are in pretty bad shape. We went with a dark brown color to match my roots and hide the brassy ends of my hair. My hair is pretty damaged from heat so I wasn't expecting my hair to come out too amazing (I wouldn't have blamed the stylist at all, it's just my hair needs to be cut but I have not yet). She blew dry my hair and styled it after and WOW. My hair looked AMAZING. The color and style looked so awesome. She did an awesome job I couldn't believe how good my hair came out despite my damage. She really knew what she was doing and was very friendly and I felt very relaxed in her chair. She used nice products in my hair and got the color I wanted. I would 100% recommend Cristal. Whenever I visit town I will be going to her and so will my mom and sisters :) Thank you Cristal! read more

I am really dissapointed at this salon. I tried to book online for a simple haircut (a "Clipper Cut") that was labelled as $20 online and I booked for a 12pm appointment and I just received a call from the location and she stated that the person that I requested does not "do" Clipper Cuts (how can any stylist NOT do a simple haircut??) and the only person that was at the Salon today that performed Clipper cuts did not work until 3pm. I let her know that I didn't request anyone but I just wanted a simple trimming of my hair (it's all one length) and wanted long, sideswept bangs. The girl on the phone said that Angelina could do that but her pricing starts at $48! I didn't want to pay that much for a simple haircut so I asked her what about the $20 that I saw online? Apparently different Salon stylists start at different pricing so when you book your appointment online apparently you won't be guaranteed to get the appointment time that you request and the pricing won't even be the same depending on the Salon stylist. It's really time consuming to try to figure out all the finite details for what the pricing starts at per stylist, which stylist is available, which limited type of haircuts the stylist does, and what times are available given that there doesn't seem to be a set price and a variety of people that can do a SIMPLE FREAKIN HAIRCUT! I cancelled my appointment and will take my business elsewhere. read more

Ulta can only be described as the "supermarket" of countless beauty and hair products. Here you will find aisles or areas designated to one thing. Products sold here range from nail polishes to skin care products to fragrances. You will definitely find a great variety of products within each section and prices do vary depending on the brand. Aside from the beauty and hair products sold here, there is also a salon where you can get a haircut to hair coloring to skin treatments. Overall, Ulta is a great alternative to Sephora or to other department stores. 3.5 Stars. Selection and good prices (when there are deals/sales). Service is somewhat lacking, even with so many sales representatives, it seems like they just don't have the time for their customers. I come here to buy hair products and the occasional electronic styling products. I like the buy two get one/two for free deals and I also like the coupons that give you a % off of your purchase, even on T3 products. I was at first a little hesitant about buying the T3 straightener for $200 since it was so pricey but with the coupon and some other deals, it made it less of a dip into my pocketbook. I haven't tried the salon services but they always seem to have a deal, like when you get a haircut they give you another perk along with it, like deep conditioning or something. All in all, if you know what you want from here, from higher end shampooing products, lower end cosmetics, hair tools, cologne/perfume then it's easy to buy what you want. Alright, so I've been searching for a good selection of headbands at a lot of different places, that are reasonably priced. I decided to try ULTA (had a bad experience about a year ago) They had an "OK" selection of hair accesories... but the hair accessories department WAS A WRECK. About a quarter of the headbands I saw were misshaped / stretched out.. they were out-of-stock on a lot of things, and some of the little hair things were missing ( stolen ). Their service stinks. When I checked out they went to look up my ULTA card (like a bonus card, not credit card) ... and they tried 2 ways to look it up and couldn't find it... you think she would offer to try offer to open a new one? Nope. Wouldn't look at me in the eye b/c she was #1 looking and talking to other people and #2 kept checking her phone. This place stinks.... the people / service stinks.
