I walked in trying to find some Bobby pins for a quick hair bun for my work. Unfortunately I'm not a coordinated person and I'm horrible with hair/makeup. I Quickly asked where the Bobby pins are and a very kind lady let me to the back to the salon where I met Hayley and Hayley was super helpful. She helped me pick out a bun maker for my length of hair and actually helped me put it in a bun for me! That's was very kind and sweet of her to do. She brushed, hair sprayed and Bobby pinned it in. The 5 stars is for Mercedes of Ulta-Dublin hair salon. Someone recommended this salon as it's reasonably priced. I don't like San Ramon location, they are not attentive. I was assigned Mercedes for my first root touch up. It's been months I keep booking her on a monthly basis because I am very happy with the service and I highly recommend her. She is cordial, she has been consistent with excellent service. The root touch up is never rushed, I look forward to the hair wash. I can just fall asleep as she massages my head/temples and she washes my hair twice. She always styles my hair and it looks so soft, shiny and she does this every month, no shortcuts. I'm booking my highlights next. I am happy to generously tip her, she deserves it for a job well done. I hope her manager sees this. It's because Mercedes provides me excellent hair service that Ulta Salon is consistently getting my business on a monthly basis. I've shopped at ulta for some time now, love the variety of products they have but this was my first time trying out their salon/beauty services and to say I was pleased is an understatement! I needed a hair cut (I've been on a hair journey the last few years of repairing my damaged hair) and I've always had a hard time finding someone who can satisfy my needs (mind you I am not picky at all) I saw the amazing price points and figured why not give it a try and am soooooooo happy I did! Mona ended up cutting my hair and not only gave me great and honest advice, but cut my hair perfectly and it feels amazing and looks amazing!!!! Not only did Mona go above and beyond with my hair experience but the customer service was great as wellbeing, she was informative, honest and extremely fun and easy to talk to, the overall experience was a 100/10 even the other employees there were so sweet and kind and social. I will definitely be coming back for more hair appointments! read more

The store is nice and clean, pretty big and organized. They do not have Estée Lauder here which kinda sucks for me. Their customer service isn't the best, there are constant long lines, and often walks by and ignores the lines. A lot more chit chats than providing service to customers here. I don't really expect a lot but I don't like when they're having conversations in the middle of the isles when you're trying to browse/shop around. Sometimes the girls here look like hot messes, like they're hung over and still have their makeup on from the previous night. My experience at Ulta Beauty was quite pleasant. I'm wondering if it was due to a sleepy, hot Sunday afternoon with a mostly empty store or if they've read up on some of the complaints and are making changes? I can't say for sure, but what I do know is that I was promptly greeted, approached by staff on the sales floor to ask if I needed help and received excellent customer service at the register. Coming in, I had a very specific list of items, including Shea butter, sugar scrub, a face wash brush and a small make up bag. All the aisles were clearly labeled and well organized and I found most of what I was looking for. Ulta really is a mecca of all things beauty and being a rewards member has its perks. Sure department stores and drugstores will carry some of this stuff but Ulta has way more variety, options and pricing that's well in line. Although I wasn't in the market last weekend, I can also see coming back for some hair products-they do stock quite a lot of high end brands at fair prices. Plenty of parking available and overall great experience. I'll be back! read more

Purchased a KKW lipstick only to bring it home, open it and see that it's already been used and there was a single lash stuck in the box. I went in today and told the employee and asked if they put returned items back on the shelf. She said that they do not, but provided no apology or explanation about how something like that could have happened. It grosses me out thinking theres a chance they do put some returned products back on the shelf. I'm turned off from this location after that. There are a few good employees here ( their security guy is super nice ) but everyone acts like they hate working here. I asked for something their app said they had but couldn't see in their gondola. The cashier , (Julia- according to my receipt) asked if I had checked their gondola. I said no, and she said oh then no. Her peer or manager overheard and said oh let's check the back. Sure enough, they had it. I worked retail for over 5 years, I get it. But this store takes all my energy out. Also, they always ask how I'm doing or if I need help ( only when I look like crap) even if I'm on the phone or clearly wanting to be left alone. My wife usually brings me in here at least once a week. They are very friendly at this location compared to san ramon and Concord (where they are a bit rude and treat us like we are stealing). Today we came in to talk to the salon staff about getting my wifes roots dyed and re-greenafied (that's right I did that) Ashers helped us out and was very helpful and friendly and ever brought up their promotions! Recently, I went to the salon and got a haircut with Marlon. She's a newer stylist and very sweet. However, my haircut is in the top of my least favorites. I'm accustomed to having the shampoo/condition portion when you know your scalp is being cleansed properly. This time, it felt much more on the top surface and not much effort was put in. During the haircut, Marlon seemed nervous about what she was doing and very slow. Another member was trying to advise her. The apprehension made me a bit nervous. The haircut was very slow and then used the Dyson dryer with attachment at the end. I didn't walk out with a salon style difference. It was something I could've achieved at home. When she finished, I wasn't given the mirror to check out the back and felt like she wanted to rush me out. So, I had to check myself. When I had a better chance to inspect at home, the layers were very botchy, the bottom looks very thin and stringy and they're not blended in nicely. I've been keeping my hair wavy/curled so it's not so noticeable until my next haircut. To her defense, she said she had injured her wrist but I don't remember the timeframe. If it was recent, it seemed (in my opinion) to soon to be doing haircuts. She was very sweet and pleasant to talk to. Also, when I arrived, the staff asked if I wanted a beverage. Having been at a number of Ulta locations, I know water and coffee is standard. No one knew how to run the basic-drip coffee machine. It took several members to find someone who knew. The staff's friendliness and better inventory than most Ulta's contributed to a higher rating. However, I don't see this being my go-to location. read more

After such a bad experience at the Ulta in Fremont, I now know a better Ulta experience. L O C A T I O N & P A R K I N G Ulta is located right next to Old Navy in the Hacienda Crossings Shopping Center. There's a fair amount of parking in the center, but can get busy as the AMC movie theater is nearby as well as shares the lot with various other stores and restaurants. I N T E R I O R As many Ulta locations, this spot is large, bright and airy. Everything is laid out in a fairly organized manner with makeup in the front and hair stuff in the back. The merchandise was impressively in order unlike the one in Pacific Commons where I was wondering the pricing of various items like hair brushes. The shelves were well stocked. S E R V I C E There wasn't a line which was amazing as each time I've been to an Ulta in the past, there's always a line. The person handling my return was good, not chatty which I like. I guess the difference from this spot and other locations was that I didn't find a lot of sales associates walking the floor asking people if they needed any help. O V E R A L L If I needed to get to an Ulta in Dublin, then for sure, I'll go here. I'll have to return back to the Fremont Hub Ulta to see if they fair as well, but definitely will not be back to the Ulta in Pacific Commons ever again unless I absolutely have to. read more

I had a bad experience with ULTA today. I scheduled an online appointment at the Gateway location in Austin, Tx. When I got there, the store was temporarily closed for remodeling and had been for 2 weeks - their online system allowed me to make an appointment even though they were closed! Fortunately another location could take me in pretty quick, however I failed to ask what the only stylist at the other location what she charged - originally I was scheduled at Gateway location for $45 and I left the other location with a $67 haircut. The stylist was very pleasant but not worth $67 haircut. When I checked out, I wanted to pay cash, but they told me I could only use cash because they didn't have change! I had to use my credit card when I didn't want to. After that experience, not sure that I'll go back. read more

I really wish that I had nice things to say about Ulta at this location... especially since Christmas is upon us and I'm in a giving mood.... But man oh man! The only thing I can give are negative comments. Sorry Ulta, but this store needs a re-work and QUICK! Every single time I have gone here and looked for assistance or had questions, the employees look at me as if I'm bothersome, with daggers in their eyes and a look of how dare I disturb them while they're standing around DOING NOTHING. Ummm...Why do you work in sales / customer service when you're unwilling to provide any type of friendly service? And on top of all this.... Ulta had mistakenly charged me twice for a purchase. Apparently, the card reader was not working which meant we had to use another register. The cashier assured me that she cancelled the initial transaction and my card would not be charged twice. Ya, wrong. I checked my account a couple of days later and sure enough, my card was charged twice for the same purchase. Long story short, it took 4 months for me to receive a refund, even after they had confirmed multiple times that they made an error. This was an extremely frustrating experience. I'll echo what many of the other reviews stated.... If you know exactly what it is that you're looking for, good for you! Hopefully the line won't be too long and you'll be in and out in a jiffy. But if you need any assistance at all or if you have any questions.... GOOD LUCK fellow Yelper....May the odds be ever in your favor! =) I will do whatever I can to avoid having to physically go to this store because the customer service is lacking.... I feel like most Ulta locations I have been to, have problems with customer service. This particular time that I went with my mom, a very friendly lady helped us choose out a Lancome Rouge In Love lipstick. We ended up purchasing the last tube of Sweet Embrace that they had at the store. One of the pros of Ulta is that of the brands that they do carry, they often have a lot more selection. For example, at Sephora they only had about half of the Rouge In Love colors that they had at Ulta. The first time that I went to this location with my friend (when I was younger ) the manager of the store told us to stop playing with the Stila lip stains. I am guessing that since we looked so young ( we are Asian ) she thought that we would make a mess of her precious store. We were so offended and immediately left, neither of us went back to that store for several years. The atmosphere of that store often felt very tense when that lady was around, but the mood always lightened up when she wasn't there. She is not there anymore! BUT this time around when I went with my mom, I was digging around in my purse for my phone. My mom told me that one of the Ulta ladies was eye- balling me like I was stealing something. REALLY?? DO THESE PEOPLE NOT LEARN? How are you going to maintain your customer base if you treat your customers like that?? Do you think that I would go into a store and steal something? ESPECIALLY WITH MY MOTHER THERE. Even if I were to steal something ( not that I ever have ) I would have a lot more respect than to steal it with my mother there... They have no idea what they're doing. I've been going to Ulta and have since stopped. Last March I needed different makeup because I was switching over from Covergirl to higher end makeup. I got a makeup with Sue Devitt products and it took 3 girls to line my eyes - and it looked terrible. The rest of the makeup was fine so I bought it. Rang up to like $700. WAY OVERPRICED. I've started using MAC and it's not even close to that much money. Oh, I also, over the course of a year bought other things and I NEVER once got a coupon for anything with their customer rewards program. I spent close to $900 in one of their "periods" and never got a thing. I'm never going back to their store again. Also, when I bought makeup, they gave me a coupon for $50 toward the salon saying it was because I had spent so much that day, so the next day (March 2008) I came in, said I had a coupon and wanted a hair cut. They said ok, cut my hair, la-de-da I go to the counter and they tell me my coupon can't be used until August of 2008. I said, "but I got this coupon yesterday and the girl told me I can use it now." The response was, "Oh, sorry, she was mistaken." Excuse me? I only had a $20 bill in my wallet so I felt embarrassed having to call up my then boyfriend to drive to the store to spot me the other $30 to cover the hair cut. Oh, and when I was buying all that overpriced makeup, two of the floor girls were making fun of the people buying makeup in the cheaper section (revlon and covergirl) because they couldn't afford the expensive stuff. I'm very disappointed with Ulta on Tuesday evening with a quiet store and not much traffic. Customer service is so bad and no one to help. I just bought a $25 concealer and wanted to make sure I have the right shade for my skin tone. Unfortunately, no one was helpful. I also so a sign saying with any $15 purchase of L'Oréal products you receive a Free Tote. Guess what, I didn't get my free tote and I spent $20 worth of L'Oréal makeup before tax. Calling myself a makeup junkie is an understatement. I luvvvvv makeup, false lashes, brushes and tools, watch endless beauty reviews and tutorials and then I hit up Ulta to add to my stash. This Ulta location has been in dublin forever. They're now opening locations in Livermore and San Ramon both fairly close to me, so cool cuz now I have more locations to hit up.. I'll explain why :) Pros- Located in a large retail shopping center with plenty of parking. Restrooms available towards the back of the store. Friendly staff, I'm always greeted or asked if I need help finding something- this has gotten better recently, I believe from all the negative reviews regarding lack of customer service. Maybe they know my face because I go in there so often, but I've never had a customer service issue. Rewards program- Ulta hands down has the best rewards program. They always have sales, coupons and special offers depending on what tier member you are. They carry both affordable and prestige make up and skincare. You can find almost any beauty, skin, and hair product here if they carry the brand. Store has recently been organized, pretty displays, lots of new affordable brands and things are a bit easier to find but still a work in progress in my opinion... Cons- They don't have much in stock. One of my biggest complaints here. Not only that, they don't update their store availability so I go in looking for a specific item thats supposed to be in stock to find out it's not. Pretty annoying because I can stop by a diff location on my way home from work but I wouldn't know it until I got all the way to my hometown location. Certain brands are harder to find, scattered in aisles or the end of an aisle or some random shelf. I use First Aid Beauty and have experience this looking for skincare. Not all Ulta locations carry the same brands. Some carry a whole line of First Aid Beauty or MAC and others don't. It all depends on what store you're closest too, if you're not near one that carry's the brands you're interested in you'd have to go to another location or order online. This only bothers me when I don't know my color in something and need a tester before ordering. Testers- missing, misplaced or stolen? The testers for almost everything is a disaster... Overall I enjoy Ulta. They carry everything I use for hair care (drybar, pureology & bumble & bumble). Skincare and makeup is a hit or miss. I order online a lot but can easily go in store to exchange or return with no issue at all. Between Ulta and Sephora, I'm a happy makeup junky ;) read more

Forgive me for cursing at their general manager, Tina (no one deserves to be spoken to like that), but if she wants to talk about "technicalities" I can write a damn dissertation about their customer service if it only didn't risk me giving birth on their cash rep floor. I just completely lost it when she said " I GET YOU'RE PREGNANT, BUT..." And I retorted that "It has nothing to do with my pregnancy!!!!!!" I saw red at that point. What?! Why is my pregnancy was even brought up?! I blew off my frustration from the prior visit, but after speaking to Tina on the phone about the previous incident (regarding an exchange) AND THEN coming in like she suggested just to be treated even worse is something I can't wrap my head around. I was also with my sister who was completely innocent to the situation and some blonde girl with piercings overwhelming her face said she couldn't tend to her cos she was a "problem." My sister addressed her to clarify her statement and of course Metal Face rephrased her statement in front of Tina. In ULTA's defense, not all locations are terrible. This particular location is just incredibly disrespectful and dishonest and they can shove their fallacious claims and passive threats up their tragically pierced, tattooed, and retentive butt holes. P.S. Proper etiquette or common sense would be appreciated from these ladies. They seriously need to stop mentioning my pregnancy at this point. I'm so tired of it.. A manager, who rang me up my second visit there kept asking me about my visit to California and finally commenting "You're hiding something there." Thinking that it was an innocent question, I said "Oh no, I'm just small, but I'm 8 months pregnant." But in retrospect, were they insinuating that I was running away from something? Purchased Clinique skin care at the 4948 Dublin (store 148) location on Friday April 28, 2023. Was greeted very kindly immediately upon entering. Employees approached and asked if I needed any assistance. I took a couple of them up on that and they were both extremely helpful and connected with me on a personal level as well. Rowen in the Clinique area and Viana were very kind and knowledgeable and were able to assist me in exactly what I needed. When checking out, I was in contact with Ailed, whom made the experience enjoyable. Extremely great sense of humor as well. Thank you all for being so kind and helpful. I needed my hair styled for engagement photos. I didn't find a hair stylist for the wedding yet, but didn't feel comfortable doing it myself for such an important event. This is the first time i've scheduled a service at Ulta. I've visited plenty of time to purchase items from the store. Overall I got the results I wanted, but the appt didn't start on a good note. I scheduled my hair appointment online with no specific stylist in mind. I showed up for my appt, but noticed a few ladies standing around and gossiping. After checking-in, I stood close by to wait for my stylist and shop a little. Stephanie called me over and sat me in the chair. Earlier that morning I called to move my appt earlier, but was told I was Stephanie's first appt and she doesn't start till 11am. So when she started talking to me, she looked like she wasn't happy and didn't want to be a work. It was difficult to trust that she would be able to deliver what I want. Ultimately, I decided to continue my appt with Stephanie and hoped my hair would come out for the best. My appt was to have my hair washed, trimmed, and styled. Total was about $65 plus tip and tax. It's crazy to even here there was only 8 of the Mac paint pot.. if it's on sale put in parentheses (limited) that way I don't get my hopes up. I wouldn't have had to drive all that way if they just answered my phone call, it's that simple. This hasn't been the only time either, it's happened to my friend and I countless times.
