I'm writing this review because I'm so pleased with my last purchase. They periodically offer amazing deals with purchase online. This one was my favorite! I ordered $60 worth of merchandise and they included my favorite all time gift with purchase. Amazing Lancome trial size "Big" mascara and Urban Decay black eye liner pencil. 100% quality cosmetics and Parfums. I have to agree with all the reviews that say the employees are rude. I stopped by 10 mins before they close just to grab shampoo and leave quick. In the 2.5 mins I was there not one but THREE times I had people following me repeating "Just to let you know we are closing in 10 minutes ok?" But I hear it an overall 10+ times because every employee was following around someone saying the same thing. I felt harassed enough and just turned around to leave without buying the one item I stopped for. I'd already had a bad experience here years ago and I see it's just gotten worse! Terrible return policies and they don't stand by the products they push. Salesperson was very aggressive pushing a dry bar dryer over the one I asked for as a gift. I had it for 4 months(I blow my hair out maybe once a week) and the dryer failed. All I wanted was a working dryer and they wouldn't exchange it and only offered the lowest price paid which was 35 cents towards the purchase of the dryer-a $200 dryer!!?! I won't be purchasing anything there anytime soon and if you ask for a gift make sure the aggressive salespeople don't sway your poor confused dad. Avoid DryBar products too! The employees are so freakin rude!! I went in looking for a new foundation so I go over to one counter to start matching my skin tone and there were 3 employees standing in the corner chit-chatting and kept giving me dirty looks like I was doing something wrong. None of them asked me if I needed help. I walked around for at least 45 minutes and not one person asked me if I needed help. I asked one or two employees of the color matched and one girl laughed in my face saying oh honey that is not it and the other girl said yes. Be nice to your customers do not laugh in their face. I stood online for another half hour because cashiers kept taking these ladies who cut the line to the point that the people behind me went up to cashier and asked why can't you put someone else on. I recently attended a friend's wedding, and thought I'd treat myself to a professional makeup application at Ulta since I had a gift card, and had enjoyed the makeup services at Sephora many times in the past. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience at Ulta. Linda did my makeup, and she greeted me with a dead-serious, "you realize this is going to be a challenge, right?" while furrowing her brow and frowning over my unmade-up face. I had no idea what she was talking about (I don't think I look THAT hideous without makeup!), so I kind of chuckled and asked, "oh yeah?" She went on to explain that the downward slope of my eyes was not ideal, and it was going to be very difficult for her to "bring the eyes up." She continued to complain nonstop about the shape of my eyes, and how much work she had to do to bring them up (to where? to an acceptable level? I've never in my life!). At first I brushed it off as her being overly brash and familiar, but finally, I said, "wow, I'm surprised to hear that, about my eyes. I've had my makeup done many times before and it's never been a problem." I think at that point it finally dawned on her how insulting she was being, but she didn't apologize or even attempt to backpedal. At the end of the session (less than 5 minutes later), she seemed VERY pleased with her work. As I caught sight of my reflection in the mirror, I'm surprised I didn't gasp out loud. My makeup looked more suited for a woman in her 70s instead of one in her 30s. But instead of saying I hated it, I just thanked her and left. At that point, I just wanted to get the hell out of there! Which brings me to my concluding thought: shouldn't I have felt empowered while receiving such a service, rather than put-down and insulted? Never again, Ulta. This particular location needs to do a better job of screening their employees. I never go anywhere else to get my hair done. Everyone at the salon is phenomenal. I usually go to the commack location but they're being remodeled, so I went to the lake grove location. Jaime did my hair and went above and beyond. I said I was going to a work event after this and she put some extra curls in my hair, styled it for me and made sure I looked great. She was very informative, told me of a ton of options I could do with my color and hair and the experience she gave me will have me coming back to this location again. There's literally never anyone here. I've gone to this one multiple times, because it's so close to the mall and it is convenient, but there's almost never anyone on the floor to ask a question to, unless it's like a Saturday, and even then, there's almost no workers. The last time I went here, there was a line that curved around and went about two aisles in and there were two girls working the register and no one else hopped on. Like why. They are grossly understaffed. To be fair, most of the time I get my questions answered well when I can find someone to ask them... but that is a rare case. I have been here a handful of times and found them to be a bit expensive. One time I went and made a purchase. At the register I realized I left a coupon home. The clerk said to come back with the receipt any time and they would be able to adjust it. I returned several days later with receipt and coupon in hand. After waiting on a long line, I was told to return when the manager was in. I returned the next day, at an appointed time I was told to and I was told, "We don't do that". Ok, now it was principle and I was not going to take no for an answer. I returned for the fourth time, waited on line each time and was turned away. I went here the day before my wedding and had the worst customer experience of my life at their salon. Upon walking to the salon area I was greeted with a look of pure hatred by a worker who snapped at me to go sit down without a word of greeting. It turns out that nasty woman was the stylist they assigned to me. During my appointment she managed to make fun of my hair, say awful things about me to her coworkers right in front of my face, speak loudly over me every time I tried to speak, and she wouldn't work with me on any of my requests. I had photos on my phone that I wanted the stylist to replicate, which she simply refused to do, so the "salon manager" came out of nowhere, yanked my phone from my hand and walked off with it without saying a word to me. When I got upset about that this so-called "manager" disappeared without saying a word to me, which makes me question whether she was even a real manager. The workers there were so mean that I had to fight back the tears, and I left with an awful and drastically overpriced hairstyle (they were 150% the price of my usual salon). The funny thing is, it was an extremely simple hairstyle, and my mother (who's not a professional hairstylist) was able to recreate it exactly like in the photo without any problems. I left a complain with Ulta and was told that the store's general manager would be contacting me about the experience, but it's been over three weeks and I haven't heard anything. Employees are so rude!!!! Most were just talking to each other. I was approached by one girl asking if I needed help (which I appreciated). I told her I was looking for a specific product and I forgot to bring it with me so I had text my friend for the color/name of it. In the mean time she had me try a different one. She applied it to my face and said "this looks perfect for your skin tone". I personally did not love it. I fell in love with the foundation I've been using and instead of continuing to help me find something similar to the one I wanted which I would of been open to (they don't carry the line I wanted the product from only certain locations do) she literally just walked away and started helping someone else. It was like she got annoyed/offended I didn't say I love it and just buy that. I actually tried to approach her again for help and she just ignored me. I'm not looking for a "sorry response" from whoever replies to comments like the other ones that were commented on that had similar situations. Clearly it hasn't changed at all. Maybe I'll try this location again in a few months but for now...Ulta in Commack is 10000% times better with nicer more helpful employees. I just happen to be in the area by this location. I visited this Ulta with my girlfriend, who was picking up some makeup for use in a social-media makeup tutorial. I've always found these locations to be fascinating, since they're typically sprawling and house all kinds of cosmetics. I'm not going to pretend that I'm a cosmetics expert (although I'm learning), so I'll focus on other aspects. The interior is very well-lit and roomy, with organized shelves and large signage. The whole place smells amazing, with varied and light perfumes. The service at this location was a little stand-offish, based on a negative interaction I heard at the counter with a customer, and some complaining when the person left. That being said, I don't know if this occurs often at the location, so I'll refrain from generalizations. Overall, I think this Ulta is a good place to visit if you're in the market for makeup, and want the convenience of trying products at a physical retail store. read more

Why was I scheduled with someone who didn't do formal styling? Also, why is someone working at a salon not familiar with formal styling?! I was then told that no one could speak to me to confirm who would see me until 2 days before this wedding. ABSOLUTELY NOT! I was a customer at Ulta for years. And in the recent year they started changing their policies. In my last visit there about 2 months ago, I bought Benefit mascara for $27. I couldn't even use their coupon on it because the girl told me that I can't use the coupon on clearance or prestige cosmetics. Meanwhile the coupon doesn't say anything about that. It doesn't state it on the shelves or the coupon itself. I was basically ripped off on the mascara. I could have gone to Sephora inside Smithaven Mall and picked it up for $25. But I thought I'd use the coupon that Ulta sent me. Nope. Not allowed. Every time I went there this year I had a problem. And I kept giving them chances. I liked their variety of products, even the drug-store brands that I sometimes bought. But Walmart had better prices for drug store brands. They didn't have any of the high quality cosmetics that I use. The highest quality cosmetics that I bought there was NYX. Which is what I went in for, their butter glosses, and the Ulta Nail Polish. That was it. I was never greeted when I came into the store, Walmart even greets their customers as they walk in. You wouldn't expect it from Walmart, but you expect it from higher retail stores. The staff is friendly but not knowledgeable. Most of the time they just want to get you out of their hair and not be bothered with you. I take all my cosmetic business to Sephora and Mac inside Smithaven Mall. I will never again shop at Ulta. read more

For example, I was wandering around forever trying to find my very popular brand of face wash that I have only purchased through Ulta and while I was searching for the face wash, I could not seem to find an employee to ask for help either.
