I came to this place on a Saturday night with a party of 10 people. I'd never been to Stone street before, so it was a pleasant surprise to turn the corner and find this tiny street lined with bars and restaurants. Ulysses seems to be the mainstay of the street, so they're probably resting on their laurels because the service was awful. The waitress came sporadically around, and when she did, there was always a scowl on her face. On top of that, their mixed drinks are all watered down. As a table, we ordered two Old-Fashioneds and two Long Island Iced Teas. Considering these are typically strong drinks and we didn't taste any alcohol, we asked the server to add alcohol to them, and she refused to do so. Her response was "if I send this back to the bartender and ask him to remake them, they'll come out the exact same way." She suggested we could get two shots of vodka instead to spike the Long Islands, which we did, and then she had the nerve to charge us $10 each for those shots. Yeesh, what a disaster! Overpriced beers (8 dollar draft Yuenglings?), 14 dollars for a cocktail (no, not here, no way), overpriced sandwiches; 16 dollars for a pathetic Turkey Club sandwich with some chunks of avocado on untoasted bread, and some potato chips, lazy presentation at one of my all time favorite author's books? My coworkers burgers looked "acceptable", but they were also 16 dollars with no fries. They at least got a pickle wedge. Great vibe but the people are sketchy. Not a place I would want to go with my girlfriends or a date what so ever. Bar tenders are really creepy, my friend got way too fucked up from one green tea shot "on the house" from the bartender. Had to call the emts when we got home. The bouncers are beyond sexist and disgusting towards females. As much as I appreciate pubs and live music this place will not be getting anymore of my company nor services. Ulysses is a great bar a little pricey but good. Walked in around 6pm after shopping at Century 21 and in dire need of a drink since my brunch buzz was starting to fade. We were lucky enough to get a table in the back. A few beers later it was almost 10pm, I seriously didn't know where the time went. I guess time flies when you're having fun haha. I'm from Dublin. Big crowd came here on Paddy's day- because apparently the owner is Irish and a great lad. The DJ said he wouldn't play irish songs that the whole crowd kept asking for (Cranberries, b-witched, sinead etc.) unless we paid him $20 a song. Holding our treasured icons hostage on this sacred day? Feck that. We were so desperate we ended up forking out for a load of songs. Tonight is 5/3/21 (technically it's now 12:25 am on 5/4). Tonight (5/3) was the VERY first night NYC has bar seating, after 14 months. It's a Monday night (I don't go out on Mondays) and raining. But I went to Ulysses anyway, to show some support. Before COVID, sometime in Fall, 2019 (this is a genuinely sincere review) I had an issue to get off my chest with some people in the bar who work nearby at another bar. I did spout off and blew off some steam with a bartender that I won't name here because I don't want to be mean, but it had nothing to do with her, and I figured she knew that, all along, over the past 16-18 months or so. That was, at this point, maybe 18 months ago. It looks like one of the bartenders, loves to hold a grudge (and it had nothing to do with her). I came in the bar tonight on the Pearl Street side and walked over to the Stone Street side just to get her as my bartender and smooth things over by saying hi, etc. She clearly was spooked, walked away for 5 min (which is a long time when you're waiting for a drink) and then one of the guys from the other side of the bar waited on me the entire night, and she ignored me the entire time. As though that guy had that section of the bar (not). So obvious what happened...and I've been living a block away for 15 years! All she needed to do was say hi and that's it. So this place has always been weird (truly) with some bad actors coming in (I'll leave it at that, for now), but I have always tried my best. Where's Ashley? She used to handle the Pearl Street side of the bar. Is she coming back? She's not like this. What happened tonight...so unnecessary. I had to write. But perhaps I met one of the owners (at least officially) tonight, Danny, so that was at least good. This is an honest review that I wish I didn't write and didn't want to write, btw. I sat down on this particular bartender's side of the bar for a reason... This is the sort of thing, since I'm creating a big initiative with my dearest former professor when I was an undergrad, to help people and help women, and when people act like this, I don't know...kind of makes me feel they don't deserve it. And the effort I put in each day is about making people and the world better. Easy issue that could have been avoided, and rectified, to be honest. read more

this place is a joke of an establishment. they tried to confiscate my real government issued drivers license. i'm born and raised in NY and am 25 years old. 3 different members of the staff including a manager all said it was fake? what's that about. they even threatened to call the cops on me. i told them to do it considering it was real. all i wanted was my ID back and said i wouldn't even enter their bar but this wasnt good enough. this fight continued for 25 min before finally giving it back. i would rate this -79/100 if i could read more

The service at Ulysses was horrendous, my friend and I sat for at least 35 minutes or so before someone even acknowledged our presence. (I would understand if the outdoor seating area was completely full when we went, but it was not.) Stone Street can be a fun spot to drink outside in the summertime; Ulysses is not. read more

Met a friend here on the night after the big snow storm and the place was empty as expected which was nice since the place is normally packed. This is your typical Irish pub with your standard drinks and pub food, nothing special. I'm not a beer drinker so opted for the Malbec and then a glass of Pinot Noir. Both were not great and the pours were pretty small considering they were $12 - $14 a glass. The only thing I really enjoyed about the place was their selection of music playing in the background. They were all songs from the 80s and 90s which brought back memories for me. Otherwise, there are lots of better places to drink in NYC. read more

This is my favorite pub in the FIDI. The music is awesome! Bartenders are outstanding. They have great priced champagne: my favorite! I've never even been to this place because the security guard tried to take my friend and I's real ids and threatened to call the cops when we fought to get them back. Quizzed us on our real last names and addresses and told us fake identification was a crime as he still refused to give us our ids back. Bouncers and bartenders got mad at various women for little reason (those outside of my group). I didn't get into specifics, but the way they talked to the women was all generally sexist. I've had some good times at Ulysses, but mostly I've had sweaty people elbow me in the back. This place is honestly unbearable at peak happy hour (Thursdays and Friday nights) and the standard bar food is meh. This is actually a place that people who live in the area seem to love, because I have definitely seen some things during late, late nights (and it sometimes gets pretty packed here even on the weekends, when FiDi is mostly dead). There's a lot of little nooks at Ulysses, which means the chances of you running into an old dude making out with a much younger woman on your way to the bathroom are very, very high. read more

I think this is my first time giving a place 1 star. I promise I will try to be as polite as possible. I'm also making it short and sweet because I don't want to waste any more time on this establishment. Came here to get drinks with co workers after a long day at work. I was craving a Moscow Mule more than anything. Here, they call it an "Austin Mule" and it's $14. Ok! This sounds legit to me! Little did I know I was going to be getting half a shot of vodka, one cube of melting ice, and some sugary artificial. Moscow mule mix. I have honestly never seen a drink made so poorly in my entire life. So, I politely asked the waitress if she could have the bartender add a little more vodka because there was literally nothing in it. She came back to tell me she would have to charge me for a new drink. It was honestly comical. I finished the drink. With my blood sugar levels through the roof and my head spinning, my next order was a simple vodka soda. Again, horrible. The soda tasted like rotting toilet water and once again there was no vodka. At this point I had given up. Other things that I thought were not right with this establishment: 1. Our waitress was stoned out of her mind and wearing a black oversized sweatshirt with a hood. She looked like a drug dealer. 2. Is this a Greek restaurant or an Irish pub? Confused as to what this place actually is. 3. I never give any place 1 star. Can someone please buy out this establishment and hire some new management/re-brand everything? Alright,so I've been here once. On this St. Patrick's day, which means I need to come back to Ulysses because I do not think this was an accurate depiction of my experience. So the experience: Extremely packed - it would have been helpful if someone was monitoring the amount of people coming in at once. When I walked in there was no bouncer. It took forever for my friends to get a drink ( again this was most likely because of the influx of people due to the holiday) The women's bathroom had zero toilet paper. Mostly I'm here to vent about the rude waitress who just chased us away from 2 different "table service only" tables like we were naughty children. There are only bar patrons here. They don't have their amazing buffet anymore, and they didn't have one of the few things on their simple menu (corned beef sandwich, and it's a pub, come on) and separate checks really derailed our poor server. Unfortunately a very poor experience. Here is my $21 "Caesar salad with parmesan and croutons." Not Ceasar dressing, one crouton and shrimp cocktail that seemed like it was purchased from a bad grocery store. Inedible. My husband ordered a roast turkey sandwich which we were told was hot, but was served cold. They took the salad off the bill but not the sandwich. I try to avoid FiDi as much as I can, and so far I've only been to Ulysses three times in 9 years. Most recently, I was here for their Oktoberfest celebration in conjunction with Six Point. Had a cheeseburger while waiting around for them to tap their casks. The burger was fine. Nothing out of the ordinary, but reasonable for $14 and a ton of acceptable fries. Also had their pretzel nuggets with beer cheese, which was good but not $11 good. They don't offer any happy hour specials, so keep that in mind. Can't beat those outdoor German style picnic tables though. Even though it kinda inexplicably smelled like fish and was full of finance bros. I'll see them again for oyster fest! read more

Stone street is known for their outside seating during the summer months. This last Friday with a scorching 85 degree temperature was a perfect day to go. My group got to Ulysses around 3pm and was lucky enough to grab the last open table outside. By 4pm all the different restaurant tables outside were packed. We chose Ulysses because their prices on food and drinks were very reasonable. For this visit my group only stuck with drinks as we were going to a BBQ later. We ordered a few round of craft beer that ranged about 8 dollars each and a few wines that were around 9 each. The staff here were not to great. Most of the staff that helped us didn't seem to happy to be there. The service was also relatively slow. Overall, it was an okay experience. The level of service that we got from the staff forces me to rate this place a 3 star. They have great outside seating so this place makes for a great summer hangout. I will be back again this summer, hopefully the level of service is much better. read more
