Dos Verbos... Carvery Station!
Despite the highly renowned bar atmosphere for "The Suits" during off duty hours, the lunch scene at Ulysses produces the same invigorating atmosphere, minus the heightened levels of inebriation. Of course, subtlety is a word best describing the carvery station during lunch hours at Ulysses.
The Atmosphere: Enter Ulysses, a modest dark mahogany furniture establishment that's lit by strategically located spot lights. The décor of the establishment embodies the age old look of an Irish Pub that's mixed with a flare of the 21st century. Dark Mahogany solid oak furniture ranging from the bar, dining tables, and seat are the centerpieces of this establishment. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the décor is the 19th century styled metal chandeliers that sits above head in the carvery. Each of the chandeliers is powered by a single light bulb, thus giving the establishment a rustic yet enchanting feel.
The Carvery Station...
Despite the various Burger and Sandwich options available in the Kitchen, the Carvery Station produces some of the most scrumptious and sought after food on Stone Street. The general food servings range from 3 entrée courses (on this occasion, Sesame Encrusted Tuna, Guinness Braised Brisket, and Fried Sole), one sandwich option, and a multitude of side dishes are available for order. Let's not forget the Soup of the Day or the Salad Bar.
The Food...
Pulled Pork Sandwich with Brussels Sprouts and Mac & Cheese ($10.00).
Pulled Pork Sandwich: Perhaps one of the most captivating Pulled Pork sandwiches consumed, Ulysses' production embodies the basic principles in the execution this concoction. The pulled pork sandwich did not contain any fancy decoration or perks. The sandwich was a huge chunk of pulled pork that's "sandwiched" between a sesame seed bun. At first bite, patrons will find that the tender texture and juiciness of the pork is vivid during consumption. The perfectly braised pork meat is accompanied by a BBQ reduction that's evident with hints of Ketchup and Brown Sugar. The most rewarding aspect in the taste of the application is the lack of saltiness embodied by the meat. The major player in this dish was pulled pork, plain and simple. Patrons will find that despite the tame and balanced nature of the pork used in the application, the balance between the tender texture of the meat that's accompanied by the mild hints of sweetness work to create a well executed and tasting sandwich.
Brussels Sprouts: Perhaps presentation isn't the word to describe the Sprouts but taste would be more emphasized. As with the pulled pork sandwich, the presentation of the side is simply irrelevant. During tasting, the texture of the Sprouts contained a mild scrumptious crunch, thus indicating proper cooking. Patrons will also find that the hints of garlic infused in the extra virgin olive oil accompanying the mild salty flavors used to season the vegetable to be welcoming and appreciated.
Macaroni & Cheese: Tantalizing and Invigorating are terms best reserved for the most remarkable of applications, in this case, Ulysses' Macaroni & Cheese application should be rewarded with such entitlements. During first consumption, the bold, savory and velvety texture of the cheese becomes the spotlight of the dish. The milky smoothness of the American Cheese works in conjunction with the Sharp Cheddar used in the application to create a brash yet buttery taste in the application. The texture of the pasta was simply al dente, mild hints of garlic and salt worked in conjunction with the cheese to create a sensational consumable. Patrons will find that despite the burdensome nature of the application, a comforting and soothing feeling is derived through this dish's execution.
Notes on Ulysses:
1) Pricey: Entrees range from $12 to $20
2) Entrée Portions are rather small, 5 oz. to 6 oz. is what's expected for the price paid.
3) Service can be hurried due to the turn around of patrons.
4) Drinks... Order a beer or three. Ulysses' is that type of place
5) Burgers are sensation and shouldn't be looked as secondary to the carvery. read more
