I found my hair savior and her name is Adrian! I came in with orangey hair that was the result of a previous dye job from another salon. Adrian was super sweet and really took the time to talk to me about what I wanted and what would look best on me. We decided to start fresh and cut off several inches of my hair. I normally have a ton of layers in my hair, so the haircut was something that I was not used to, but I actually really liked it! I was pretty open in letting her do what she wanted and I was really happy with the result. On to color, we originally decided to do a beige color but then later decided to just go for it and be fun and aim for a mauve/purplish tone. My hair took forever to process, but you can't rush perfection! At that point, I was willing to sit there for days to get my hair out of its then current sad state. I was at the salon for a total of about 7 hours, but it was totally and completely worth it!!! My hair is now this beautiful smoky brown/gray/purple color and I am absolutely in love with it. I received compliments from strangers not too long after I left the salon. I would post pictures, but pictures do not do it any justice. Adrian blew me away and exceeded my expectations. In my opinion, prices are definitely reasonable for the amazing results that you will get. I paid just as much, if not more, at the other salon and left with hair that I hated. I'm very last minute about getting my haircut and when I called to make a newbie appointment at Umbrella, by the grace of God they had an opening. Not only am I last minute to win it, I'm very particular about my cuts (having had many questionable styles and stylists in the past). Popping into this clean and chic salon mid day all I really want to say is this, Jan Michael is my spirit animal! We talked at length about, well...the length I wanted for my lob and instead of making my hair choppy and look like a helmet, which usually happens, he cut and styled it just the way I wanted. Amber! Go to Amber! She rocks! My best friend has been going to her for years I believe and convinced me to try her out when I was in desperate need for help. My hair was two colors and not on purpose and my wedding was a few months away. Amber understood I wanted it fixed, to look awesome, but still look like me. She did it all! I walked out looking like a movie star with out damaging the healthy part of my hair. A couple of weeks before the actual wedding I went back to have it colored one last time so it all looked perfect and got a bang trim. On my wedding day my hair was a beautiful color not far from my natural color. I'm probably one of the most picky guys I know about hair. And Nathan gave me the best haircut/styling I've ever had. Period. I made it clear I needed a very professional, clean-cut men's hairstyle. He gave me that, with some versatility to have a more laid-back look for happy hour after work. Also, he gives awesome advice on how to style my hair. He took a look at my hair, and immediately knew how to approach everything. Apparently my previous stylist had been cutting my hair in a somewhat blunt fashion at the ends. Nathan made a point of carefully and painstakingly correcting that issue. Now my hair is seriously softer (even after washing out the salon products) than it's ever been in my life. I'm the type of person that hates getting my hair cut because I always choose to do something and then regret it after. That was before I met Jade. Jade is AMAZING as a person and stylist! He always knows what to do when I go to him with my ever-so-changing ideas with my hair. The first time I went to him was just for a trim. Loved the outcome though. When I wanted to chop my hair off, of course I was VERY nervous because it's been so long since I've had it short (my hair grows really slow and to have it long, it takes like 2+yrs), but Jade worked his magic and I was in love with the short bob he gave me. Fast forward to a few years of growing my hair back, I came back to him and once again he gave me a beautiful haircut, full of movement, and dyed my hair this AMAZING pastel purple color that I asked for. I love Umbrella! About a month ago I had my first cut there, and last night was back for a bang trim (which they call a fringe trim). In both visits the service was friendly and professional, and results great. Kien cut my hair in a long bob with deep high bangs; his recommendation was right on - it's amazing how his changes updated my whole look, and how flattering it is. The cut is modern and a bit retro at the same time, stylish and also appropriate for my professional role. He also kindly taught me how to style it, and used and recommended a quality leave-in conditioner by Oribe. My hair has never looked so smooth and shiny before; absolutely lovely. I think the test of a good cut is how it looks as it grows out; and did the cut work over time. The answer is YES! As it grew, it still looks wonderful, and makes me feel beautiful. Yanin was awesome! She taught me how to style my hair and cut it EXACTLY how I wanted with little instruction from my end - no exaggeration there. Professional, friendly, and the women's cut alone took about an hour. They have a pretty fast and easy booking system. I was able to book an appointment 4 days before my cut from their website. The stylists I'd normally book couldn't see me last minute as I needed to fix the monstrosity on my head asap. I have to mention that I have african american textured hair, so I was hesitant to try a new place but went for it. I was able to schedule an appointment the next morning! For parking downtown, Umbrella offers parking validation for a free 2 hours, which is great. The salon's sleek simplicity and black chandeliers upon entering were very impressive. This place is bigger than it appears outside! Now, for the reason I created a yelp account in the first place: Taylor! She is passionate about her work and is so fun to chat with! My hair needed salvation when I sat in that chair. I showed her the look I was going for and after a cut, wash, deep conditioning, blow dry, and flat iron, my choppy hair was finally a manageable style. And it looks/feels healthier! This was my second time at Umbrella. I signed up last year to be a model with Ashleigh and LOVED it. The service was discounted as a model, but the service was the same as full price! The second and recent time (pictures of recent time) I booked with Jennifer because I wasn't sure if I could be a model again and I wanted an appointment ASAP. I had always wanted to go red, but was hesitant because of my skin tone. Jennifer was awesome! She consulted on which colors would work best and worked magic! 5 hours later (I'm serious haha) I couldn't be happier and will definitely be booking again for a touch up in a couple months! Side note- her head and neck message felt so good too! All in all Umbrella salon offers great services and the staff is fantastic. Sparkling/flat water is offered right as you sign in and continuous throughout the service. If you're on a budget, I highly recommend trying to be a model. Although assistants are in training, they know what they're doing and do a phenomenal job (I LOVE Ashleigh so I highly recommend her!). The educators are always near and consulting as well. If you can afford it, I highly recommend Jennifer, as you can see by the pictures, she works magic. My money is always well spent since the staff knows what they're doing. This review is for Anjelika. This was my first time working with her, but she came highly recommended for color. My hair was a faded purple, and I wanted a root touch up, and a silver/gray tone. She assured me that she could accommodate my request, and when I left that day, my hair was a lovely charcoal grey silver ombre (though there was still my prior purple visible in the back). I did, however, have a burn/rash on the back of my neck (which has never happened to me in the 3 years I have been coloring and bleaching my hair). This was painful, and her nail kept digging into it while she was washing my hair, which made it worse... Anjelika was super nice, and texted me the day after my appointment to let me know to contact her if I happened to not like the result after shampooing. Well, I washed my hair one time, and my lovely gray faded to a hideous dark moldy green. I took a photo, and sent it to her, and asked her what we could do to fix it. Her reply was to bleach or recolor, and she said it would be another $95 to $195 to fix! Excuse me!? I had already spent $250 (plus $40 tip) on this, and now I have to pay another one to two hundred dollars for YOUR mistake? I don't think so! Needless to say, I had my friend dye it blue less than two weeks later and I will never see or recommend Anjelika for color again. read more

And each time she accepts me back just like the father in the parable of the prodigal son. i've learnt the hard way that you just can't save money when it comes to having a good part. I gladly shell out the big bucks now for katrina to cut my hair instead of paying $20 to some neighborhood hair stylist who is going to over-layer my sensitive asian hair and try to make me look like some hong kong movie style. katrina's cuts are stylish and they LAST. I haven't been to a salon in over 10 years. I don't trust people with my hair. Not a single one of my friends can recall the last time they saw me with short hair. So it was highly uncharacteristic of me to 1)book an appointment at Umbrella, 2) to book said appointment as a hair model with an assistant, and 3) to request to cut it really short. Called the salon yesterday morning and left a message with the receptionist. She said that I probably wouldn't be able to get in for a couple weeks, which is what I was planning for anyways. About 5 minutes later, I get a call from Helena, the assistant, wondering if I was available to come in later that night. When I got there, I had a quick chat with Helena about what I wanted to do with my hair. I pretty much gave her complete control of what she was going to do. Since my hair was so long, I wanted to donate it. She tied it up, got the BIG scissors, and chopped away. After a wash and conditioning (which included a lovely scalp massage), she got to work. I have a lot, and i mean a LOT of hair. And its fairly thick too, so the woman had her wok cut out for her. Poor thing had to spend 30 minutes just thinning out my hair. The more she cut, the more i liked it. In the end, after checking with me first, she ended up cutting it shorter than planned. I love the way it turned out and so do all of my friends. Very cute and super manageable. I spend absolutely no time on my hair, so the way she cut it was perfect. I'm so glad she called me back before all the holiday parties. I used to be one of those guys that got his haircut religiously at a haircutting chain. Every two weeks, same style, same clippers (#1 on the sides, #3 on top). She has developed an understanding of what I think would look good on me and what really looks good on me. She is friendly and easy to work with. And she suggests changes to the haircut and color at times to shake it up and at times outright rejects some of my outlandish ideas (because she knows better). I have gone with a hairstyle in mind and had pictures shown to her, and she worked with that. And sometimes I just don't want to think but need something that looks great. Oh Umbrella, how I miss thee! I haven't been here in a really long time and I've been long overdue for a haircut and style. But when I was going to Umbrella on a regular basis, I'd always ALWAYS go to Tia! She's never done any wrong when working on my hair. See, my hair is hard to manage and I get very picky when it comes to certain stylists touching my hair. Even a simple cut would be messed up and then I get all grumpy-pants (and I don't like being little miss grumpy-pants)! The great thing about Tia is that she's a miracle worker for sure! Even when I'd come in to see her for my appointment with no particular cut and/or style in mind, I just tell her to play around with it - and even when I tell her to surprise me, she'll give me the best cut I've ever had! She never ceases to amaze me! And it also helps that she's very easy to get along with. She has a way of making people feel comfortable no matter what. Not only is this salon on point, but my stylist Elle was absolutely incredible. I wanted a new look and I decided to go on this odd hair journey of getting progressively shorter hairstyles so we could play with the length while I have it. Elle was totally on-board and after the explanation of her vision and asking a few key questions from me, she went to work. She spent a significant time on my hair which made me feel that she didn't mind making sure the job was well done. Hands down...this may be the best haircut of my life. My stylist is Roz!! Omg! I'm in love! I'm actually a little late on giving my review. I got my hair done about a month ago. Balayage and a little correction from my previous bleaching and a blow out. So I found Roz on Instagram and I seen her work and was in love!!! I made my appointment and she was booked for a month and a half out! But I waited, and she was sure worth the wait! This is really actually my first time in a high end salon. They made me so comfortable and I really didn't mind being there for about 4-6 hours. It was the ultimate feeling pamper moment for me. I'm Vietnamese and I asked to go a little lighter and she did it perfectly! Warned me not to go too light cuz my hair could break. I know all the precautions and trusted her.
