Finally tried Ume Tea, mostly to get the surprise plushie cup! Now you can choose any drink that you want and add the surprise plushie cup as an "add-on" to your drink. (Before, you were restricted on the teas that you could choose in order to get the plushie cup.) I got the white peach oolong milk tea, which was decent! You get a hint of the white peach although the oolong tea taste is stronger. If they added more white peach to it, it would be pretty good. The surprise cup itself was fun to open up and see which plushie you get. You do get a good amount of milk tea, even though the cup's base is used to hold the plushie inside. This is the Great Mall location, so it's inside the mall with no seating and is fairly busy. Service was quick though, and staff were friendly when answering my questions. This place is just ok. When my friend and I got there, I noticed that one employee was cleaning machines and such while another was behind the counter, sitting on the floor and on their phone. Didn't get to interact with staff much since I ordered from the tablet. We were able to take our time deciding what we wanted though, and we got lucky to have no line when we got there since a bunch of people showed up after us. Took about ten minutes for me to get my drink. I was indecisive but ended up ordering the strawberry matcha latte since it was under their "must try" category. I was only able to taste the strawberry puree with my first sip, and then I couldn't taste it anymore as I kept drinking. The matcha tasted very artificial. There's a block of matcha at the top that melts into the drink that they call a "snowcap" I think, but that also tasted artificial. The drink was too milky for my liking, which masked the taste of the matcha. Felt like I was drinking a cup of milk. You can't do any customizations with this drink either. The line formed after that mostly for tea, which I guess is the specialty. I wish I'd grabbed the tea and went to an actual chicken spot for chicken--lesson learned. After 11 minutes of waiting, watching the others get their orders and me actually seeing my food come from behind closed doors and placed on a counter, where it sat, getting cool.... I tried to get the attention of the workers, but to no avail. Finally, and when I say finally I really mean finally, the guy gave my chicken. It looked odd, but I'm so hungry.... I don't understand why the person didn't make the tea based on the order that was placed. Instead she was hopping from one ticket to another. I went to Ume Tea at the Great Mall with my mom and sister since it's been a long time that we were together. A colorful milk tea place next door to Dave & Busters and across from the nail spa. There are a couple kiosks which you can place your order instead of a clerk. If you like to earn points, you can sign up on the kiosk. There is a good selection of milk tea, fruit tea, desserts and appetizers to choose from. I was going to go with the signature milk tea adding in mochi but I found it to be costly so I reverted back to the Brown Sugar Boba with mochi. The drink was good but pales in comparison to the Ume Team on Barber Lane, Milpitas. There a good amount of seats around the place that you can choose from so there's no shortage of seats. I rate this place 4 stars because the taste of my drink wasn't as good as the one on Barber Lane. read more

Just a little update since I first ordered from Ume tea at the Great Mall. I now obsessively come here at least every other day (oops!) that I think the servers know me already haha! Every time, I still get the same order (oolong tea) and it's still my favourite. I also recommend the popcorn chicken with at least some mild seasoning. They have a mixed box too which has chicken, chips, fishball which I really enjoy. They have a loyalty scheme where you can collect points and redeem them for food or Ume cute rabbit merchandise. During peak hours and busy days, I would recommend ordering it online for pick-up. It is definitely much quicker and will cut through the queue. I love everyone at Great Mall's Ume Tea - they are friendly. There is however one person there who always look like she's having a bad day ...I hope her days are better at Ume tea! read more

I placed an order through the kiosk and waited about 15 minutes before asking for an update. I was told it would be another 5 minutes, but it still took longer than expected. I asked the manager for a refund, explaining that I no longer wanted the food because of the delay. The manager initially refused and said she would go check on the order. We were hanging out here over the weekend and I passed this place with a minimal line. Not feeling like having caffeine, I opted for the mango pomelo sago -non tea version. They have a tea version too - my friend got that. We ordered on the kiosk and was able to customize sugar levels. It does default to the large size so I switched to the regular/smaller size. It was good, Lots of sago. My 30% sugar level was plenty sweet for me. It was a good mix of mango and pomelo. I wouldn't def get this drink again. Also I think you can upgrade to the surprise cup, which comes with a mini plushy. They have a few extra things you can order including like bunny ears for the top of your cup.
