The reviews are very mixed but we wanted to try anyway. Greeted and sat immediately. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Our server was patient and helpful. The owner (I think) helped the grands order special drinks and they enjoyed that. We started with the Gyoza which was delicious, cooked perfectly, not overdone. Then we got the California roll bc it is one the girls will eat. Very fresh! I had the Mahi Nahi platter which came with Miso soup, salad with ginger dressing, fried rice, plus the vegetables grilled on a platter with the Mahi. My server was great, but the guy wearing glasses made my dining experience unpleasant. I ordered a Thai tea to go with my Lobster Dynamite and Golden Roll. The food was okay, but the Thai tea wasn't sweet at all. I politely asked if it could be remade a little sweeter, since that's how Thai tea is typically served. Instead of handling the request professionally, the guy came out of the kitchen visibly upset and said, "We've been making Thai tea for years. I don't know what you've been drinking." That response was unnecessary. If you want customers to come back, it's important to respect their preferences and take feedback professionally. A simple remake or polite explanation would have gone a long way. The female server was excellent and provided great service, and the food was decent. Unfortunately, the attitude from the kitchen completely overshadowed the experience. I won't be coming back because of how the situation was handled. read more

Staying at a hotel near by for concert and wanted some sushi. If you've ever had GOOD Japanese food..don't come here. Honestly we have had better SUSHI at HEB and Market Place ..grocery stores!! The "shrimp" fried rice looked like it was shrimp from a cup o noodles and the rice was very flavorless. $60 for 2 CA rolls, 1 crunch roll with zero crunch :(, miso soup, and kids chicken teriyaki was BEYOND underwhelming. Holy cow, this place is so good! My 11 YO daughter is a sushi connoisseur and only likes Sushi Zen in Southlake. We've tried so many other places but always end up in Southlake. We recently started coming to Arlington and came to Yelp for suggestions, thank you to everyone who reviewed Umi Sushi and Grill! It's kind of tucked away in the back of a strip mall off a busy street. We arrived right at 5pm when they reopen for dinner and people just started strolling in like they come all the time. She always judges based on the basic rolls (salmon and california) and this place is her new #1. The Avocado roll ended up being her favorite! We will definitely come back and try other rolls. Inside it's bigger than sushi zen too, will have to see if it's crazy on a weekend or not but 5 pm on a Monday was not bad. read more

The sushi was so good and fresh. The restaurant appears to be family owned and they were very attentive. It's a nice, relaxing, clean, and cozy atmosphere but I could see it being less so at busier times. Two notes. I ordered rice and didn't receive it (which was absolutely ok because the sushi was so filling and just the right amount of food) and am afraid I may have paid for it inadvertently so be extra sure to check your bill. And secondly, if you're looking to linger a bit after closing time, don't. They close exactly on time and we're out the door at the same time as us. They were pushy on us leaving but in a really gentle way and I respected that their time is valuable too. read more

We were in Arlington for a special event, was craving some Sushi, saw Umi on the list and wanted to give them a try, we stopped in right when it was opening, so it wasn't quite busy or crowded. I'm not sure what was going on, but the restaurant was pretty hot and humid, so that wasn't a great experience. Overall, the salmon tower didn't taste well as we expected, didn't have enough sauce/flavor, but the scallop dynamite was great. To give my honest opinion, would I go back, probably not, if there's anything I critique, I would say, try getting the building back up and have the A/C unit up and running. read more

They weren't good--flavorless and a bit undercooked, not in a health hazard way, but in a texture way. I then ordered the Cherry Blossom roll as my main. It was also flavorless. The nice gentleman that took care of us was polite and always made sure we had what we needed. Unfortunately my mother in-law found what seems to look like a hair. I hate to leave a small business any kind of negative review. On a positive note, the service was fantastic, everyone was so nice. The sushi menu is overwhelming and then there is a whole other menu. The food was just meh, the chicken friend rice was incredibly bland, someone else at my table got chicken teriyaki and it was also bland. The sushi was just ok, the miso soup didn't taste like miso. I mean I didn't have high expectations but this was kinda a let down. As a cook I would be overwhelmed having to remember how to make that many items.
