I recently dined here for Bite30, this was my second visit to Umi. I enjoyed my meal and the Bite30 deal was a good value. My favorite part of the meal was probably the sushi. I had a classic rainbow roll and it was a good portion with fresh ingredients. Service was a little slow however I know a lot of businesses are experiencing staffing issues so I don't want to ding them for that. I took off a star because none of the dishes "wowed" me. Delicious dinner night out with my girls at this Winter Park restaurant. Located off Park Ave with parking near by, this place was a great find. We tried the Bite30 menu with some variety of options. I loved the mango tango sushi roll I had that was pretty tasty, but the Hokkaido roll was way better!! Definitely a must try again for us. I am a noodle girl so I had to try their yakisoba noodles and it was amazing! The pork belly in it was juicy and paired nicely. My friends loved the ramen with either the chicken or the pork belly. The broth was very tasty for them. My other friend ordered the bibimbap which was huge and had to take some home to make room for the dessert. Food was amazing. We ordered the Double Seafood Roll which is one of the best sushi rolls I've had. And the Yakisoba Noodles and the Picanha. The Yakisoba was good, although a bit on the sweet side. The Picanha had a very creamy sweet potato puree. The service wasn't the best the entrées came at completely different times. I understand that Picanha takes longer to make but they could've waited to bring both out at the same time. The ambiance is relaxing but it can get a bit loud. read more

Absolutely loved anything about this place. We walked in and were seated right away. Our server grabbed waters for us and told us about the specials. We can't during bite 30 but actually didn't end up ordering from the prefix menu. My husband is allergic to shellfish and they actually have sushi options he could eat - sweet potato and a vegan roll! Our server was excellent and checked in on us regularly. Be sure to check in for the free edamame with sea salt, so good!! I had the Dragon Roll with extra eel sauce and it was fantastic, they lightly sear the eel on the roll and I loved it. They have a solid bar menu and dessert options. We were super full so we skipped dessert, but sounded yum! Every sushi roll was fresh and bursting in flavor, it tasted as if the fish were just caught and prepped, that's how fresh the fish was within the sushi rolls. Cute restaurant in downtown Winter Park. This location was ideal being city center and walking distance to many of the local shops. We made reservations for lunch and had the choice of either inside or outside dining, which was great being a peak time. Their menu had a great selection and something for everyone, even for those that may not be a fan of sushi. Their bento box is big enough to share, unless you're extremely hungry! You can see in the picture it came with a variety of food to pick out and pair with a choice of roll, tempura vegetables, rice, protein and salad. This restaurant is also part of the Delta Skymiles Dining program where you register your credit cards (or debit cards) you can earn miles. And, this program is free to sign up for! Who doesn't want to earn miles for a future trip? They're also part of UpSide which is an app you can get cashback from gas stations and dining (as long as you check in prior). I dropped by for dinner after taking the Winter Park Scenic Tour. The restaurant was moderately busy and they seemed to place customers 6 feet apart when possible. I ordered the cauliflower steak, sushi, calamari and shishito peppers. I loved the cauliflower. It had a light seasoning and was lightly cooked. The sushi was very very and came out popping with color. The calamari was good but average. The shishito peppers were HOT...every single one of them. I had to return them. The owner came out and apologized. She said that shishito peppers harvested in the winter are hot. That's a new one for me. read more

This little hole in the wall sushi joint packs a tremendous amount in flavor in a small package. David, our server, was a self described sushi snob and made fabulous recommendations. We ordered: - Sealantro Roll- I die, one of the best flavor combos I've had - Toro Tartare- delish but 2 bites is enough. The portion is ideal for 4-6 people as it is an incredibly rich dish - Kobachi- Love, love, love. So fresh and delicate and simply perfect- the touch of spicy pickled cucumber slices elevated this seemingly simple dish to new heights. Hubby also ordered the Picanha robata- the beef was grisly and a bit tough, but the veggies were just perfect. David, our server, suggested the Robata grilled Kalbi but we made the mistake of I also had a couple glasses of wine -La Mont, Sancerre- so good my husband ordered it after me - Chateau Bignelaure- Dreamy creamy Rosé! Tried to make reservations online but won't take parties of 8. Must call. Had reservations but no table ready for us. Luckily it wasn't crowded outside so we were able to get seated with plenty of social distance. They had booster and high chairs for the littles. Definitely get the robata grill. The veggies and the chicken was amazing and the chimchurri house made sauce was good. This batch of shishito peppers were extremely hot, so not good if you were hoping for mild. The unagi nigiri was delicious and was a nice cut. Gyoza was a little too heavy for my taste but they probably use the same for deep fry, so they use a thicker skin. While waiting for the bathrooms (only one for each) I admired the beautiful paintings on the wall. The owners relative told me they were authentic antique silk paintings and so were the screens on the wall and the statue in the front. I've been here twice though admittedly there was a fairly large gap of time in between. The first time I recall it being pretty average. This time I would say it very clearly settled into the below average range. I'd give it two stars because the service was great and the staff was nice. The restaurant was clean and looked inviting. Where it fell short was the food and the price. My husband got a bento box with beef bulgogi which was dry and lukewarm as well as not very flavorful. I got tuna nigiri and tonkatsu ramen. The tuna nigiri was probably the best thing we got. The ramen was lukewarm, noodles were undercooked (to the point of being stuck together in a big chunk) and it was pretty devoid of anything... beyond the noodles. This is the first time I've ordered tonkatsu ramen that had no meat, not even a bit. The server was incredibly nice and swapped it out for more tuna nigiri and a shrimp tempura roll that was $12 and 'one' very small shrimp running through it. I felt insulted by the scant portions and high prices. How much is a single shrimp and some rice? Our ticket ended up being $73. I wish I had gone elsewhere. read more

We were excited about eating at Umi! I mean really excited! I went holding onto hope that they would have fresh uni. I mean with a name like Umi you should have uni, and they did! They had two types! They were sourced from California and Japan. Wow! What did I do? I ordered both! How did it go? It was crazy delicious, that's how! The Japanese sourced ones were slightly grainer and with a stronger flavor. The California one was creamier and had a longer finish of seawater brininess. It was like a custard. I ordered the fresh wasabi too! It is a game changer. So much more depth of flavor and none of the take your head off feeling of wasabi made from horseradish. Not sure but there may have been a bit of both mixed together, but I am not sure, and not wanting to misrepresent anyone. Three dollars is a steal for where I am from for fresh if you can find it at all. Hell you can't find uni in Pensacola either. Damn food desert. Anyways...... Umi's other nigiri are also fantastic! My daughter tasted her's and immediately said she loved their sushi rice and I did too. It is the perfect combination of sweetness and rice vinegar. The fish portion on top of the rice was not oversized and gross like it has gotten in Pensacola (it's a damn sushi cold war). It's supposed to be a modest portion of fish, and it was. It has been a long time since I have had sushi this well prepared and tasty. I have eaten a lot of sushi and not many restaurants put this amount of care or attention into making their craft. That's right I said craft because it is. I appreciate a restaurant who does. Another thing I appreciate as much or more (read my Papa Llama review) is great service and Zac is a master at dealing with our haphazard way of ordering food. Update: I was contacted by Jeannie who was sweet enough to offer a credit towards my next dine in at Umi. Upon arrival I was greeted by the Hostess and then escorted to our table. Our sever Corey was very attentive and friendly. He even offered us the in-house smoked soy sauce, which was very good! I will defiantly asked for that next time. We ordered the Rollins No. 2, Mango Tango, Spicy Tuna, and a bowl of rice with curry. Everything tasted very good. My favorite was the Rollins No. 2. I high recommend that sushi roll. Came here for the Bite30 event that is going on until the end of June. Upon entering we were greeted by a hostess and a server. We were seated immediately since it was around 5pm and wasn't too busy. I forgot our severs name, but I felt like the whole time we were dining he didn't seem interested in serving my table. We all ordered glasses of water and later on we had ordered a glass of beer. We wanted straw with our water and asked the server if we would have straws. He told us that they were going eco-friendly and wasn't using straws anymore....but we saw a table across from us that had straws. After we had talk amongst ourselves about this situation, we ask a different server if we could have straws and he provided us with it. I had a small bowl of Miso soup, Blaze Sushi Roll, Lemongrass Mussels, and Creme Burlee. The Blaze Sushi roll was pretty good it was spicy with a kick of flavor. If you like spicy then this roll is for you! For the main course I was surprise by the amount of Mussels a portion had. It was plenty for two people to share. It was good but nothing to special. Tip: make sure to ask for extra plate that way you can put the bread on the side so it does not get soggy!! I wish the broth had a bit more flavor it seemed a bit ehh. For dessert I had the Creme Brûlée. I had high hopes for this but, it didn't satisfied my sweet craving. Back to our server. He rarely came to our table to check up on us. He was either outside talking to the guest that were out there (assuming they were the owners of the restaurant) or a table beside us talking to I am assuming people he knew that were dining there. I know it is bad to assume things but we do it! He pass by our table numerous of times. $1,500 LATER! I found a staple in my roll that ended up chipping my molar + fracturing another tooth. I spoke to the manager, PR, and owners and they sounded promising on paying for the damages. They refused to cover the expenses that this restaurant's negligence caused. I ended up having to get a crown as a result.... Please think twice before you eat here. Inside has some nice artwork in the ceiling and they have outside seating as an option. Edamame had too much salt so we had to shake off a lot of it. We had the mango tango, lemon kiss, shrimp tempura, firefly, and sealander (name might be wrong). Mango tango was the best. Nice mango and coconut flavor. Firefly had a good kick at the end. I haven't sat down in a restaurant to enjoy a proper meal in three months! And this restaurant is just perfect for this occasion. The Bishouo Roll is also super unique. The flavors from the yuzu Apollo and the eel sauce are so rich and savory. The tempura white fish on top is PERFECT. This is one of the best sushi places I've been to, so it definitely goes on my list of favorites. If you want the freshest sushi in Central Florida, this is the place to go. The restaurant, Umi, has gone under a complete face lift with their dishes. Everything is fresh, unique, and has it's one flare that no one can compete with. We had a variety of dishes where this restaurant gained a 5 star rating from me. The staff was incredibly you knowledgeable about the fish, ingredients, and taste profiles of the dishes we were ordering.
