I can't say enough amazing things about Umma Kitchen. My post-partum sister who lives in Oceanside makes me buy her huge bulk orders so she has meals ready for when she doesn't have time to cook. She is a VERY picky eater, but she's loved everything we've brought her from here! (FAVE Frozen Meals: Galbi Tang, Seolleongtang, Yukgaejang) I spend about $200-$300 every time I come here and it's so nice they have a rewards punch card and also give you free dwaeji gogi if you spend a certain amount. Oh man, I literally have not known about Umma Kitchen until recently but wish I had known earlier! I've ordered meal kit delivery and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. Delivery charge is around $8-10 (but depends on the location). I enjoyed the four things I ordered and am looking forward to the next four or five things that will be delivered. I especially recommend the hambak steak. read more

Kimbap is really good but the other stuff like jeon and Japchae isn't that good to be honest. The jeon is too bland and the japchae is too peppery and not enough sesame oil flavor. The owner is very friendly and even recommends delicious items I haven't tried before. It's a nice little shop with a great selection, and I will go back again. read more

I came here after my eyelash appointment upstairs, and discovered this gem. So happy I found it!! I ordered about $60 worth of meal prep for the next week. Was so glad I did not have to cook myself! There was the tofu I got with the hot sauce-- delicious. Kimchi fried rice with an egg on top-- also amazing! I had the tofu peel, hot sauce cucumber that I still have in my fridge. I also got this meat wrapped in egg sort of food, and still finishing that. Lastly, I got the Korean chicken which was like Bon Chon chicken. Highly recommend coming to this place. I am obsessed with this place, it's so cute! Umma will greet you and show you around the little store. They have all types of banchan and meals, like a variety of soups and proteins, prepped for you to enjoy throughout the week. You'll get a stamp for every $30 you spend and on the 10th stamp, it's 5% off. There is a small parking lot but we didn't struggle on a Sunday morning. 100% would recommend getting stuff here over the market. read more

Have been meaning to stop by this shop for months but haven't gotten around to it, but to my surprise they supply ready made meals in the UCLA student store. So happy to have gotten a chance to try their meals, I bought their kimchi fried rice, but they also had beef bulgogi with rice, spicy fried chicken and spicy pork with rice. Came here to stock up on banchan and I'm obsessed with this place. Have 8+ things in my fridge currently from my first visit to this cute and clean shop. The shop owner (I believe?) is so cute and friendly. The banchan tastes fresh, homemade, and delicious (don't tell my mom). Wow! Wish I had known about this spot sooner! All the banchan was 100% better than any market and as close as it gets to my mom's own banchan. I just got a couple of things this time but everything was top notch. Highly recommended if you want banchan that tastes homemade. Will definitely be going back! Before the meal, as they brought out the side dishes, they brought out barley rice with denjang on top to mix with yeol-moo kimchi. That was a special touch. We absolutely loved the food there. I saved the info so that we can return when we visit Koreatown again in the near future. Highly recommend this place to anyone who craves exceptional Korean food.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.
