Guess I'll never know much about this place. I made an Open Table reservation 30 days in advance of my arrival for myself (just 1 person.) Then yesterday I get a phone call cancelling me out because they're fully booked that night and don't want to give a table to just 1 person. I find this to be unbelievably DISCRIMINATORY ! Came to celebrate my birthday but won't be back. Our server was so unfriendly and it ruined our entire experience. She made me feel so uncomfortable celebrating that we ate and left within 40 minutes. The food came fast and was good but the bathrooms could use some updating as the stalls barely closed and seemed to be made of plywood. They served us a free dessert after my partner advised it was my birthday..but no one explained what it was or if I even had a food allergy to any of it. First of all, we get seated, and we were waiting for a waiter to come by and take our orders (20 min passed by) no one came by. We gave it another 10 minutes, until I spoke up and said something. Which is ridiculous, in my opinion.. I think someone from management came by and took our order. It was nice of him, however, the principle is as to why it took at least 30 minutes to get our order in. The ambience is great, the service is not it. We hardly had a waiter not attend us, and it sucks that they automatically put the tip amount on the check. The waiter or whoever, didn't deserve the amount of tip that was charged on the check. I dined at Ummo last weekend with my girlfriend - it was sensational. When you walk in, you are welcomed with a creative, modern atmosphere. Dim lighting and carefully created sleek design and a really pretty bar area. Our server and overall service was great. She had detailed descriptions of all menu items and you could feel her passion for the chef's menu design. She was helpful in pointing out recommendations. Now to the food, the absolute best part. To start the prosciutto with burrata was excellent - freshly sliced meat and such a fresh burrata; it came with these fluffy breads that were airy, doughy, flavorful and excellent. The arancini oozes with a cheese when you take a bite into it and sits in a delicious creamy sauce. And the focaccia had a nice flavor with the honey giving the ricotta its secret sauce. The pastas are homemade - great textures and really good. The pasta with Ragu was the winner, the meat sauce gives it a heartiness and the pesto and creamy like topping rounds out the dish nicely. Purchased a ticket here for NYE for $180 and was promised open bar and appetizers walking around. The bartenders were doing their best but it still took around 30 minutes to get a drink because it was so crowded at the bar. Absolutely disappointed in the "appetizers" becuase I didn't see them once between 9pm-1am and then when we asked about them we were told they were gone? We never saw any in the first place. The only food was a dessert table next to the bathroom at the end of the night. Furthermore, we had to stand and wait outside for 30 minutes to get inside and by the time we got to the front of the line, the bouncers were arguing about the fastest way to get people inside by collecting all our IDs, then giving them back, then collecting them again, ultimately wasting more time. read more

What a fantastic experience! I had the pleasure to be invited to the Friends&Family, and I did not have that high expectations for the first day of serving, but the team did phenomenally! We have been welcomed by the host team with a big smile and such a professional approach from the beginning. The server was on the top of the table all the time with the team's support. Runners described every dish was dropped, and the drinks came with good timing. The restaurant's ambiance is beautiful, and the art on the wall connects all. we start off with our waitress, who was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and attentive. we ordered two slightly naughty Tito martinis that were perfection. We split the Cacio e Pepe pasta dish and cried after we finished it, it was really good. next, I had the Filetto with a delicious salsa Verde and balsamic reduction. The steak was cooked Perfect my husband had the chicken dish. We loved the fact that the polenta was a bit grainy which added a nice rustic, feeling to the dish we finished with the delicious Campari sorbet. we were doing a show at the merchandise Mart and decided to check this place out. Service was subpar, we had to ask for things multiple times before receiving it. The food was only ok. Our risotto was extremely salty, but we didn't want to send it back since it took 20 minutes to make and when we told our waiter he did not say anything or do anything for us. The best thing we had was the mafaldine cacio e Pepe and we didn't even order that! It was given to us by mistake. The restaurant was very pretty, but we were seated by the pool table (why it is in the middle of the restaurants, I do not know!) and people decided to play during our meal so we had to watch so we didn't get a pool cue in the back of our head. The service and atmosphere were great, and it's in a great location to be able to see downtown Chicago/the river/whatever else you might bring an out-of-towner to see, but the food was a bit of a disappointment. We had ordered a couple of the apps to start (mortadella bites and burrata with avocado) and they were probably the highlights. The bread they serve with the burrata is nice and toasty/substantial and the cheese itself was good too. However, our main plates of the Il Vincitore pasta and the Lamb duo left a bit to be desired. I was surprised that the pasta dish won some kind of award for creativity by a Michelin-starred chef, but ultimately was just these small ravioli with chicken and this kind of bland broth and a little bit of truffle. The server asked if we wanted the lamb medium rare, we said yes, and it was *minimally* medium well, arguably well done. The sauces the lamb came with were able to salvage the plate a bit but overall we weren't impressed with the entrees. The drinks weren't bad though! read more

My son and I dined here on Christmas Eve. The restaurant was not overly crowded but in the very open space, it was a bit noisy, especially as tables were close together. We had several appetizers and a pasta dish. Oysters were very fresh, polpette were tasty. Tortellini was pretty average. The service was poor. The waiter ignored us, failed to ask if we wanted more drinks until quite late, instructed us to order everything at once and he would pace it out (which he didn't do) and made sure we knew that it would take a long time if we wanted anything else (kind of like an ominous warning). They brought all the appetizers at the same time, and asked us to make room. They didn't fit well which made it difficult to eat. And didn't explain what anything was. There were some accoutrements to the burrata and we had no idea what they were. Never said thank you, waiter ignored us as we left. It was as if no one wanted to be there. Very disappointing. Had dinner tonight and overall it was nice. I want to lead with the best part and the reason to come here...the service. Our server Madison is the best I've had in as long as I can remember. Everyone was attentive, explained every dish, and created a warm environment for diners. The ambiance was also comfortable but pretty upscale. I came with 2 friends and we each got a cocktail, which was a bit overpriced but we enjoyed them. We ordered two apps, 3 pastas, and one meat. We finished with 2 desserts. The apps were the burrata e avocado and the arancini. Both we good, I would have liked the burrata with a touch more salt and there was none on the table (which I understand). The arancini was not too heavy but also not overly flavorful. Now the pastas. The raviolo was lighter than expected. I enjoyed the texture and flavor of the topping best. The tortellini was a bit thicker on the dough but the ragu was really wonderful. The best thing of the night was the agnolotti. It was creamy, herby, nutty, and the perfect texture. Shout out to Madison for recommending it. It also had parsnip 3 ways all which added different taste elements. The chicken was beautifully cooked. Moist with crispy skin. The polenta was a huge let down. It was gritty and bland, really took away from the dish. Maybe a side would have saved it but we didn't order. The pomodoro dessert was awesome. When you taste all of the elements together, it really tasted like caprese. savory and sweet pretty cool. I didn't eat the tiramisu just because I don't like the flavor of coffee but my friends really enjoyed it. The event space upstairs looks really really cool, and I actually would love to come back to see that on a Friday or Saturday! Worth a try, not my favorite in the city. read more

Food was great, the service was horrible, the server ( young lady with glasses) never introduced her self, she never explained how the menu works . When we ordered the steak nothing was asked how we wanted our steak. I guess everything comes out one way OnLy. When drinks (specialty drinks on menu) were ordered two people on the table ordered the same drink and one arrived first , my wife was very concerned that she wouldn't like hers after she saw what the drink looked like, so she turned to the server and said "I want to go ahead and try my friends drink before mine comes out because now that I look at it , it scares me. The servers answer was "well I've already put your drink in" . So what if my wife didn't like her drink ? She wasn't able to send it back? Not for those prices. When you're are fine dinning like that the costumers needs should always be the upmost important. I definitely suggest, that all your stuff needs to go back in training, was a lot of disconnects also with the food runners, whoever the "Servers" needs to be more polite and definitely understand what Hospitality means . We were here for a 30th birthday and enjoyed the bar upstairs while waiting for our dinner table! Things were great until we went down for dinner. Our server immediately started belittling us. It was very strange and extremely rude. We didn't do anything to provoke this behavior. Here are a few examples of the bad behavior: - We asked if they had shots. The waiter rudely responded of course not. You can go to a dive bar down the street for that. - We asked if the ragu on the menu had beef in it or just lobster. Our waiter was like why would you ever ask me that question. Have you ever heard of beef in ragu? (Doesn't make sense because ragu is literally meat sauce in Italian) - We ordered a focaccia and asked for it to come out first. His response was, " This is isn't an Olive Garden." - He came to our table to take our order and asked if we are ready. We were still coordinating so we asked if we could take an extra second. His response,"Wow! You are so bossy. Do I need to ask permission before doing everything?" (Response didn't even make sense) - We didn't get water for at least 30 minutes after we got seated - We were rudely told that we asked him to clear out our plates even though we told him we're still obviously still were eating. We complained to the manager about the rude behavior and the manager didn't apologize once. He instead said that the waiters demeanor could be mistaken. He didn't even give us a new waiter. Overall the terrible service ruined our night completely because our waiter was so negative and rude and the manager did not solve the problem, which is shame because the food and ambience were so great. read more

This was an amazing experience all the way around! My husband and I went with another couple and it was so delicious and beautiful! Every dish was presented in a unique serving bowl and beautifully prepared. The focaccia, prosciutto , and burratta were some of the best I've ever had! We had the beet salad, two different pastas, halibut and a steak. We shared everything and one dish was as good as the next. The desserts are unlike anything you will ever get anywhere else! The four of us also shared the burrata e avocado -- very good and large. In addition, we ordered both salads. I tried the beet salad and would recommend it. Two of us shared the branzino, and we both agreed that is was too salty. The desserts are creatively presented and very tasty. The service was good. The tables in the loft are nice, however, be aware that the chairs at some of the tables are backless stools. read more
