Came here with some family and once again had a golden experience. This place does incredible volume given it's rather limited space. If you're lucky enough you be sat at one of the few boots inside, allow your eyeballs to scroll the walls for all kinds of nostalgic pictures. You may come across an image that shows where today's Uncle Bill's pancake house used to be over a century ago! I went with bacon, egg's, and those incredible pancakes, while my guest ordered a litany of other things such as an old school burger with onion rings-there were no complaints people! And while $60 plus (not including my standard 20 PLUS percent tip for CSA level service) may come off as a tad pricey, think again especially in this day and age. They're going to be almost every other competitor in both the South Bay and SoCal as a whole when you consider the sheer volume of the food they're going to put in front of you. Kind of makes you look around at the fit servers and say hey do you eat this food too? Lol The CSA, (CUSTOMER SERVICE ALL STAR) of this experience was Miss Nicky-pictured. Yes, this is a local favorite. Yes people come her from the West side as it is one of their favorites. Yes it is a tourist favorite. With that said, be prepared for a bit of a wait for a table, and know they have excellent service and the food is worth the wait. There is a public parking lot at the civic center for a fee of course. Street parking is hard to manage sometimes, but the civic center has an underground parking area nearby, which is a short walk. The view of the ocean is beautiful and peaceful while you are waiting for your table. We ordered the bacon and eggs (scrambled) with potatoes and the Sausage patties and eggs (fried) with potatoes. Both come with a choice of pancakes or muffins. One of us ordered the hot cakes and the other ordered the muffins. On this day the muffin was Cappuccino Chocolate muffins and they were to die for! We sat inside which is very nice, and there is plenty of outdoor seating as well. As I said, Uncle Bills is a fan favorite. Top notch food! Hash browns were excellent as well as the pancakes. Over easy eggs and medium steak were good too. Really enjoyed the vanilla nut iced coffee. Wonderful breakfast spot super close to the beach! We were greeted warmly as soon as we entered and our orders were taken within 5 minutes. I ordered the bacon and eggs with sourdough toast and hashed browns and my husband ordered the Santa Fe omelet with pancakes. Our server was very attentive and smiley. Our orders came out quickly and I was pleased that the bacon was super crispy and the hashed browns well charred! Add to that the Cholula at every table and I was set! I asked for the hashbrowns extra crispy and they were indeed perfectly crispy! The banana nut pancakes were a good size and topped with a heaping pile of fresh banana slices and crumbled walnuts ... the $3 upcharge was worth it! Could only finish half, so took the other portion and ate it for breakfast the next day. I would come back again to try other things, but I docked a star because of the parking situation. I came here with a large group and thankfully only had about a 5 minute wait. We were sat inside and service was prompt. HEARTY FOOD WITH AN OCEAN VIEW Met a friend for breakfast here on a late Tuesday morning around 11AM. It's in the heart of Manhattan Beach, so parking can be challenging. We missed the crowds on both ends once we parked and promptly scored a fantastic table on the patio with a sliver of an ocean view. Service was friendly and attentive. The pancakes at another table were GINORMOUS. Given the name of this place, I probably should have ordered them, but my pal wasn't interested. Instead, I opted for the Sausage and Eggs for $17.00, which came with two muffins, blueberry or chocolate chip. I ate the blueberry one, which was delicious and took home the chocolate chip one to enjoy the next day. Everything is big here! My meal consisted of a huge portion of perfectly cooked scrambled eggs, nice and crispy hash browns, and a few tasty sausages. After this wonderful massive meal, I didn't need much for the rest of the day. My companion liked her ample hot oatmeal ($10.50) and English Breakfast Tea ($4). When the sun came out, the waiter immediately put up an umbrella to shade us. It was so lovely here that we lingered over our drinks and relished the view. Inside is equally adorable. I would give 3 stars, but this place has the word "Pancake" in the name of the restaurant, so pancakes better be good. Mediocre pancakes at best. I knew this was going to be an issue when you can replace toast for cakes. Most places don't do that. They might sub cakes for Toast and Potatoes, but never just toast. That means the pancakes are as cheap as 2 slices of bread. The selling point for this place is location. It's near the beach and the patio* has a small ocean view. The pancakes here are not worth naming your restaurant after them. Today, it was Uncle Bill's Sausage Patty House because the sausage patties were the star of my breakfast. * The patio is an issue for this place. You would have to be pretty much there to hear your name called for your table. Otherwise, the menu does caters to loads of breakfast which I believe is served all day. Lunch menu does have all your classic dishes as well. I don't think there's a liquor license as there was no alcohol on the menu. Service was great, friendly staff. Coffee top up was always handy and constantly refreshing your cup. The omelette was great, portion wise was pretty big. Served with hash brown and either toast or pancakes. They were able to eventually help us out with this, but once we got our food, no one really came back to check on us after that. While the servers were nice when we were being helped, We had just felt like they didn't really tend to our table and seemed to kind of ignore our corner of the restaurant. I ordered the turkey sandwich with tomatoes and cheese, it was definitely nothing special and I think I made a mistake of ordering something too basic. My boyfriend ordered the omelette that had a veggie, chili and sour cream on top and I thought it was incredible. That is something I would highly recommend ordering and wish I had gotten. For the future, I would stick to the breakfast items and not their lunch as the lunch was pretty basic and Was not my favorite. I would love to go back and try this joint again.
