This place is awesome! From staff to their food! Me and my boyfriend ordered Uncle Bud's BBQ platter and oh boy! Potato salad and greens so good, I recommend EVERYTHING in their menu. We travel a lot and we make sure we share our experience when we think food is really good. I think it's important that we rate good restaurants like this one so that people that travels know where to go and not to waste their money for overprice food that's not even that good. Soooo I hardly eat barbecue in Arizona because I'm usually disappointed after years of living in the south. This place has changed my attitude! My family took a quick trip to Prescott to escape the Phoenix heat and stumbled upon this gem. This place quickly became my favorite barbecue spot west of Texas. I tried the chuck roast, pulled pork, and ribs. They were all excellent, and the sides did not disappoint! I'm not usually a huge fan of Cajun flavor, but everything was seasoned super well and I found myself enjoying the flavors. The sauce is perfectly balanced and one of my new favorites. Owner/operator was so nice. He shared how his youth guided him to cook food he loved and share his passion for field to table fresh ingredients used in his kitchen. My husband enjoyed his "Bud's Bowl" w/Cajun sausage and I the Cajun smoked chuck roast w/Cajun Greens (yum) & mac&cheese (leftovers finished off for dinner). We had arrived before noon so no wait for our food; unfortunately, poor guy was working alone today and he was bit rattled by volume of phone orders & people walking in. He was quick to explain his situation and apologize for delay and we were so relieved folks were understanding & willing to wait. Seems they knew food was worth waiting for. Bud's Place is truly unique. It's a fusion of Cajun delights, barbecue meats and homemade side dishes prepared with special flare. One example is Bud's Cajun greens...a combo of escarole punctuated with Tasso, Asiago, garlic, oil & breadcrumbs cooked in a cast iron skillet. (They gave me a sample!). We tried the Shrimp Creole (spicy version) and the authentic chicken/shrimp etouffee. Both were delicious and filling, BUT not so much that we couldn't make room for bread pudding. The choice of vanilla/butter or bourbon/caramel topping perfectly finished the moist pudding. It will be a difficult choice next time. I would have liked mine a tad warmer, but that's my picky self talking. My husband would have like the option of shrimp etouffee sans chicken, but that is his quirk. The passionate proprietors of Bud's seem to be truly invested in serving up unique food obviously prepared with both a love of food and people. Give Bud's a try. You won't be disappointed. We stumbled upon Uncle Bud's Place last year after some hiking and loved it! It's been a bit crazy, but we finally made it back up to Prescott and, while on another hike, started chatting about food. It dawned on me that Uncle Bud's was here and we had to go again. Really friendly staff, menu has plenty of options, and the decor really makes you feel like it's someone's passion rather than a chotchkey/tacky place like corporate chains. We both, coincidentally, had the exact same thing as the last time and it's just as tasty as before. Everything sounds good on the menu. Even the meatloaf (which can be a difficult thing to overcome) sounded good. Portion sizes are just right, I'm not overly stuffed or feeling bloated. The only negative I have about this place is in regards to the cook who I believe is one of the owners (I could be wrong). The pulled pork was super juicy and flavorful and their mashed potatoes are the best mashed potatoes anywhere (seriously the best)! Sooooo good! No atmosphere but just great American food. It is my favorite Prescott take out place but there is nothing wrong with dining in as well. The Muffaleta sandwiches are amazing and are identical to the ones in New Orleans including the ones at the grocery store in NO that claims to have invented the Muffaleta. The same is true of the other Cajun specialties on the menu including excellent chicken gumbo and etoufe. The barbecue items are equally as good. Really don't want to rate this place so I can keep it all to myself but in all honesty this is the best Cajun place I've eaten at outside New Orleans. The food here is always fresh, portion sizes are huge so make sure you go hungry. The heat level is as hot as you can take and they even make their own sauces and spices. The potato salad is killer, and goes great with everything. The chicken and Tasso ham is fabulous and so is the chicken breast sandwich with plenty of their sauce on it. If your really hungry get the muffaletta sandwich with tons of the olive relish on it! Wow! I've been spoiled with great food over my life, having many family and friends who are stellar chefs, and Uncle Bud's DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The atmosphere: there are personal touches all over the walls: family photos, a corncob pipe, a short autobiographical story. The kitchen is open, so you can watch your food as it cooks. The menu: just enough options, but not so many that it overwhelms. The prices: absolutely fair for the high quality of this food. (In fact, they could probably charge more, but you didn't hear that from me.) The food: we both ordered the Big BBQ Plate with the three meat and two side option. My favorite meats are the jerk chicken and the chuck roast - the meat was tender and moist and the homemade sauces were full of flavor. My favorite sides were the melt-in-your-mouth greens and the red beans and rice. The chef: Chris (I hope I remembered his name correctly) cooked for us. It was a wonder to watch him cook and heat so many dishes on his own. He was hospitable, attentive, and very friendly. We were back in town, so we ordered again. My husband and I split a half muffaletta, pic is equal to a quarter size. It is huge, and made of great quality meats and olives.
