OMG. This place is amazing. The only downfall is the fact that I'm trying to be healthy, so that sucks. The chicken is super tender, the white sauce is as good as I heard, the rice is amazing (just the smells alone are worth it) and the people who run this food truck are just so good at what they do. The guy at the cash register is really nice, and they get your food out at an amazing pace (great, because of how long the lines get). I got the chicken platter, although the combo platter with lamb smelled and looked amazing as well. You can also try to be a bit healthier and get the meal with salad instead of the rice, but personally, I think the rice is a must. The texture of the rice grains with the moist chicken is so incredibly satisfying. Unfortunately for me, Uncle Gussy's truck is nowhere near my office and is closed by the time I get out of work. FORTUNATELY, I had a 1/2 day before 4th of July and ran over in the sweltering heat to try Gussy's. Uncle Gussy's serves the common "meat and rice" platter with a Greek twist. They blow The Halal guys out of the water. There was a short line but it took all of 5 minutes to order and get my food. They are super friendly too! I knew I wouldn't have another chance anytime soon to come back, so I got the whole shebang-lamb gyro and chicken served over rice and salad with "the works" (all the condiments) with a side of fries. I plopped myself down on some stairs and devoured. It was SO GOOD. I got to try a little of everything. The fries were the crispiest I've had. It was a lot of food. Uncle Gussy's popularity cannot be denied, as if you've ever been on Park Ave you've likely seen the droves of people lined up to get a taste of the succulent gyro, and I have to say the wait would be worth it! Pro tip too, order online to skip out on the wait and get to pay with card. It's cash only otherwise. Got the gyro sandwich and seasoned fries. The fries were ok, not extra crispy like I normally like, but very well seasoned and generously proportioned. You certainly get more than you need to compliment the gyro. Now the gyro...this may be among the best I've ever had! What I enjoyed the most was that it wasn't overtly greasy or heavy. It was certainly filling and very flavorful but I didn't have the feeling that I was eating something that was drenched in oil. Every bite was delectable, and since it was so clean I couldn't get enough. The pita was surprisingly good too, and really added to the meal. Overall, some might argue that other street meat places are cheaper, but to me this is quality over quantity. Super duper food truck that's currently parked outside of St. Bart's church at 51st and Park Avenue. Line get super long on nice days but moves fast. Last Friday my co-worker and I decided to try Uncle Gussy's food truck on Park Ave for the first time. We went at noon hoping to beat the long lines that there usually are. When we got to the truck there was a line but it was tremendous and it was moving quickly. I ordered the greek salad with gyro and my co-worker ordered the gyro platter and we ordered the fries to share. My greek salad with gyro was $10 and I think my co-workers platter with the fries was about $15. For midtown I think that not a bad price for lunch, especially sine the serving sizes were pretty decent. My greek salad was tasty and the gyro meat was good as well. My co-worker said his platter was delicious and a lot of food and the fires we shared were probably my favorite part. They had greek seasoning on them and cubes of feta cheese mixed in as well and they were even crispy still when we got back to our office. Mm so good, Gussy's is a delicious lunch spot in midtown east. If you work in the area, I recommend going on rainy/snowy/cold days because otherwise the line can stretch down the block. I love anything on the menu that includes their pita break which is incredibly soft and doughy. I also can't resist their fries. Get here early, because the line forms quick. I work by the 53rd st halal guys and sometimes still make the trek to Gussy's because I'm craving the kebabs and fries. The seasoning on the fries is pretty great (i think it's just pepper) and the meat is marinated overnight so every bite is full of flavors. Unlike other food trucks, Uncle Gussy's actually gives you a decent salad to go with your meal so you don't feel worthless and guilty after your meal. General note as many people have said there is definitely a line if you go during lunch time. I waited about 20 minutes when i went around 1pm. Once I got to the counter i ordered my Gyro platter with the works. It only took about a minute to get my food which was quite refreshing after waiting in line for 20 minutes. Once you open the container you see the beautifully plated food which a nice balance of colors to make it extremely eye appealing. The food itself was cooked very well. The pork souvlaki was extremely savory and flavorful. The rice was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The tzatziki sauce sauce complements the meat very well and also takes some of the heat away from the hot sauce. Which the hot sauce itself its very flavorful without packing too much kick. The onions were cooked very well but i wish there was a little more flavor there, same with the lettuce and tomato. Overall the meal was very satisfying and for under 10 dollars you get a huge amount of food. I will definitely consider going again but probably at an earlier or later time because it seems that there will always be long lines during lunch time. read more

My family did bad things to me. I don't want to go into it, but let's just say that there is a very, very good reason why we all had to call my father's brother "Uncle Gushy's" and it wasn't anything to do with his gushing praise of our academic prowess. However the food at Uncle Gussy's is so good, that I couldn't help but love it. Many things in life you cannot help but love, and this is one of them. My Uncle, however, was not. There is one problem though. I have to ask for no yogurt sauce. That thick white creamy yogurt sauce just pushes it over the edge when combined with the name of the food truck. It's just "too much to swallow." It always was, but that's another story. What to get: The Combo What else: Don't mention Uncle What's your fave TV show: Certainly not The Man From Uncle. Why aren't you playing soccer lately: I injured my Uncle. I mean Ankle. Why are you whining about your family: Look, this criticism is Uncled for. I mean uncalled for. Unfortunately they are only open 10-4pm but you can't have everything. Ruggy's review led me to try it, and for that reason I may call it Uncle Ruggy's in future. Sammy's Halal, Biryani Cart (those two are the best of the best although BC doesn't have combos), Tony Dragonas and King Souvlaki of Astoria are all right up there, but Uncle Gussy's enjoys a spot in the top five, or at the very least in the top ten. I don't know where my Uncle is these days. I found his business card in my shower the other day which was exceptionally freaky since I have never seen this card before. It says he now works for the United Nations. I think he's trying to give me a clue on how to find him. However I did not - for obvious reasons - appreciate this "UN-clue." Juicy cubes of chopped gyro meat, lightly spiced and aromatic bits of chicken, over excellent rice, with delicious creamy and spicy sauces poured all over it. I usually ask for extra sauces, and for all the sauces, for that matter. Sadly, I keep thinking of my Uncle. Even when I'm with a girl, I can't help but seeing his hideous face in my mind as I uncle-asp her bra. If you haven't been to NYC, you may not even know what Halal Carts and Combos are. You are really missing out. Halal Guys is the most famous (and is a five star place), but Sammy's Halal is the best and Uncle Gussy's is right up there as one of the best. I think I've "gushed" enough about Uncle "Gushys" so I'll leave the rest to you. Come and try it, and love it as much as I did. Maybe I'll see you there. But don't bring up my Uncle again, please. I always see a long line here whenever I'm on my way to work so I vowed that I would try this place sometime! On a rainy Monday afternoon, I decided to give this place a shot since the line was pretty short. I ordered on seamless and the pick up time wasn't that long so I headed there! There was only one person in front of me. But the guy working the front of the cart was extremely nice and even made small talk. He mentioned that he has extra sauce in there for me, and said it would only be a minute more. He was a really good and kind person, for a food truck this was way more than I expected although halal carts tend to talk a lot too.. While I was waiting for an order, I saw one of his regulars come up to the cart and they were very friendly to each other! I could see why people love this place so much. When I got back to my office to unwrap my lunch, the portions were huge!! As you can see in my photos, he really did hook it up with the sauces and the portions. The white sauce is not what I'm use to although I could see how the food is high quality: the chicken was a little dry in my opinion, I will probably only get gyro next time. The yellow rice as others have mentioned is not oily and perfect in flavor. The salad is very fresh. These are crunchy pieces of lettuce with a solid tomato, not the sad pieces of lettuce that a halal cart would give you. However, I really didn't think the meal was that delicious or worth raving about. The fries were really good in my opinion. Unfortunately, when I had the chance to eat them.. they were already soggy. But they are wonderfully seasoned and go well with ketchup. Words cannot express how amazing this food truck is! Uncle G's is such a classic for a Midtown lunch! There is always a line rain, snow, or shine. I was craving it real bad and waited 30 minutes. The line went quickly but never decreased in size. You can't miss the bright blue truck! Apparently they have 2 other trucks and their logo is on all the bags and food containers they give out. The Greek food is super tasty and it's a great price compared to what you normally pay in Midtown for lunch. I usually get the Gyro pita with onions and fries on the inside (you have to pay $1 for the add fries inside the pita) and it comes to $9 including the fries. My coworkers are huge fans of the platters but do beware, it's a huge serving size and most of them tend to save later for dinner. Given the number of people that visit Uncle G's per day, the food is always fresh. I've never had a bad meal from this truck. I recently relocated for work and I am absolutely devastated that I work farther away. TIPS: If you want onions (grilled or red) you have to ask. "The Works" includes lettuce, tomato, and white sauce. If you want hot sauce you have to ask them to make your meal spicy. TL,DR: My favorite food truck in Midtown period. I love Chicken and Rice, frequent a lot of food stands including the famous 53rd and 6th. With that said, to me, Uncle Gussys is the quality version of chicken and rice. Their meat is on a different level, they are larger pieces and taste different, but AMAZING!! I bring all my friends here when they visit from California after they've tried 53rd and 6th and they agree, it's in a different category. 53rd and 6th is great for when your drunk, Uncle Gussy's is good for lunch!
