The entire experience from getting our drink orders placed to receiving our food was the worst restaurant experience of my life. I'll leave it at that to keep this review short, but I have to give props to the new manager Kenny. I spoke with him about everything and he went above and beyond to make things right. He's the only reason I'm providing the extra Star, so another huge thank you to Kenny. Came here for dinner with my family and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The ambiance was warm and inviting, the service was attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and full of flavor. My boyfriend is a bit of a Birria Taco connoisseur, and he said these were some of the best he's ever had. It was perfectly juicy and packed with flavor. I ordered the pulled chicken bowl, and it did not disappoint. Was very disappointed in my lunchtime visit to this location. When the tortilla soup showed up immediately, noticed there were about 5 to 6 pieces of chicken in the entire bowl. Going further, the soup was very bland lacking any kind of seasoning. And the top it off, it was only lukewarm. Onto the combo, while the basic flavors were there due to the tomatillo sauce, it also lacked any kind of salt and pepper seasoning. And to continue the trend, the food was also lukewarm. The dining area was not crowded and we were immediately seated. The hostess was very nice and friendly and made us feel welcome. Once seated, it took 10-15 min for the server to arrive to take our drink order. While waiting for the server to return, we began to smell something weird - like sewage. Not sure where it was coming from and he had no idea either. We ordered enchiladas, chicken fajitas with Mexican rice and a margarita trio flight. The enchiladas were good but the chicken was dry and bland. I reordered the same dish and it was no different. The server apologized and removed the items from our ticket. Had a great meal at Uncle Julio's! We ordered the Queso Birria Tacos and the Guadalajara, which comes with bacon-wrapped shrimp stuffed with Monterey Jack and grilled over mesquite. Our server was great and gave us some awesome recommendations. It's always nice when the staff actually seems to care about your experience. We spent around $100, which included two margaritas each. I love uncle Julio's !! My family and I have been coming for years and this location has always provided such excellent service even when busy. There's plenty of delicious drinks, appetizers, and for me, vegetarian options. My go to is the cheese enchiladas and I usually sub the sauce since it automatically comes with a chile meat sauce since this is tex mex! They have great queso both the regular and queso blanco. I recently tried the mushroom quesadillas and they were also fantastic. They also have an entertaining and cute piñata dessert which you crack open, revealing delicious fruits and churros, so that's worth a treat and perfect for sharing! read more

Went in on a Thursday about 1:45. We're told they have no booths available when the restaurant was hardly busy... with two small children that was kinda annoying. Service was prompt and our waitress was super nice. I had a salad and my husband had a cauliflower bowl everything tasted over all pretty good. I got, what I thought was my go to, delicious cheese and onion enchiladas with chili con carne. They tasted like frozen TV dinner ones. Uncle Julio's used to be the go-to spot for my family. Tonight, we did not have a good experience. The menu had been reduced significantly with some of our favorite items gone. So, 3 members of the family decided to get beef fajitas. When they arrived, they smelled bad and no one liked how they tasted. We suspected it was the marinade and when we asked the manager, she said it was soy sauce! At a Mexican restaurant? Never heard of fajitas marinated in soy sauce, so that was a big no from us. Thankfully, she offered to switch them out for chicken fajitas, which arrived quickly and were hot and tasty. The service and accommodation were very good, but the food has suffered since they were bought out a year ago. I hope they consider improving the beef fajitas recipe to align with traditional Mexican flavors. read more

My husband and I have visited this restaurant twice in the last couple of months. The first time our order was wrong and the food was cold. Tonight, although there were numerous empty tables, we waited about 25 minutes for a table. We waited quite a while for our order to be delivered. Food was cold service was bad the restaurant was filthy. There are booths with ledges to the side. The ledges were dusty with dead insects. This Allen location was in bad shape. SUCH a bad experience last night! We used to be big fans of this location and ate here regularly for many years, but no more. We arrived at 8pm last night with the intention of sitting at the bar for dinner and watching some NCAA basketball. When we walked in, the bar seemed full, but we spied 2 empty spots at the corner so we grabbed them. One of the 2 bartenders gave us 2 cloth napkins to use as placemats on the bar, he handed us menus, then he left to serve other customers. As we started looking at our menus, we realized that only half the bar was actually full of people - the other half of the bar was full of dirty dishes, glasses, and leftover linens that had not been cleared after the previous (many!) customers had left. We looked around the rest of the bar area and realized that LITERALLY every high-top table that didn't have customers seated at it was piled with more dirty dishes, glasses, and used linens as well. Spilled tortilla chips littered the floor throughout the place, and chairs around the high-tops were abandoned at whatever angle their last occupants had left them. The whole place looked like it hadn't been bussed in about 2 hours. GROSS! At the same time we were noticing all the dirty tables, we realized that there was a faint, very off-putting sour smell in the area we were sitting, almost like old pickles that had been left out in the sun, an old gym bag forgotten in the trunk of a car, or sewer gas? GROSS #2!! As we were trying to figure out what was causing the offensive smell, we watched another couple walk up to the other side of the bar (the side that was devoid of people but filled with dirty dishes) - they stared at the mess for a moment, presumably trying to figure out whether anyone was still sitting there. When they realized not, they then looked around to identify a bartender who could clear some space for them. When the bartender finally noticed them standing there, he came over to them - but instead of properly clearing the mess around where they wanted to sit, wiping the counter clean, and giving these customers a refreshed space at the bar, he simply lifted the pile of dirty dishes and glasses that were in front of them down to the lower level of the bar (still right in front of them, where they could still see the dirty mess), then he plopped down 2 new cloth napkins/placemats for them ON THE UNWASHED BAR. GROSS #3!!! Three GROSS strikes and you're out, Uncle Julio's! Between the unappetizing mess we saw littered throughout the bar, the bad smell, and the very questionable cleanliness practices of the bartender that we observed as he served the other couple, we were DONE - so we quickly left and headed back to our favorite neighborhood pub, which is where we probably should have started in the first place. What a disappointing experience. This is clearly a MANAGEMENT issue - Uncle Julio's, if you don't have enough staff to keep your tables bussed, then CLOSE OFF a section of the restaurant so your staff can focus on delivering good service to the rest of the place! (Heck, if things are in a jam like we observed last night, then get in there and bus the tables YOURSELF! During the 20 minutes we sat at the bar, we saw NO managers come into the area - where were you?) If your staff isn't following restaurant hygiene best-practices or they're not aware that a clean environment is an important component of a positive dining experience, then TRAIN THEM BETTER! We understand that it's a tough labor market, but what we experienced last night would have been TOTALLY AVOIDABLE with better manager engagement. (Except for maybe the bad odor - we're still not sure where this came from, but it certainly didn't help things last night.)
